Most fun I had with a Ubisoft grind-fest in a long, long time.

This game could suck and they still won the battle. They’ve been running a master class in how to do an indie release since the hype train left the station.

Of course this little jerk was gonna show up in September. What other month would he show up?

There are people out there hating on this game just because it got good press.

@Gerald fair enough. There’s also giant watermelons that feature in the level they were playing at the exact moment the screenshot was taken. There was watermelons in the Yoshi games. There was watermelons in Mario Party. There was a watermelon planet in Galaxy. There was watermelons in Mario Sports Mix. I would like a Sunshine remake as much as the next guy, I just think this is absolutely Stretch Armstrong.

EDIT: I would actually buy this being a tease for NSO SNES games with Yoshi’s Island being one of the launch titles before I would believe a Sunshine tease.

Also, melons are not present in Mario Sunshine. The round fruit in that game are Durians. I will eat my shoe if this is a Sunshine tease. There’s already a summer vacation themed kingdom in Odyssey. The more I think about this, the more I think it’s absolute nonsense of the highest order.

I hope we get some alternate costumes for Ghost Rider to represent the Robbie Reyes version and the Cosmic Ghost Rider version. Even though spoiler is already in the game.

@Racthet916 yeah, I really don’t have strong opinions on it, but definitely an editorial inconsistency. I do think there’s such a stark difference between some jiggle physics and a guy dropping his drawers and pinning a girl down, though. I do enjoy reading the spirited back-and-forths on those reviews so maybe I’m just subconsciously rabble-rousing right now haha.

Fun games, can get a little repetitive at times.

Funny that this site will point out questionable fan service but make no mention of that weird “let’s film a rape scene” thing in HM2, definitely an important distinction to be made there IMHO.

The soundtrack to the 2nd is elevated to the stratosphere by the addition of Carpenter Brut, especially the track Le Perv.

I hope everyone’s having a lot of fun with this in the age of the conspiracy theory but please for the love of god chill the eff out if this doesn’t materialize. This is how people become CONVINCED something is happening and then they get all up in arms about it when it doesn’t.

Those fruit are definitely for Luigi’s Mansion and the tweet is just generic back to school schlock peddled by every major kid-friendly company this time of year. But y’know, carry on, or whatever. Internet gonna internet.

EDIT: I should say that the watermelon is for Luigi’s Mansion and the pineapple is from Link’s Awakening. Just like the rest of the decor represents the game shown on the screen in the back.

I’m OK with this, September is jarred with releases on Switch, as well as the Genesis Mini release. This is off topic, but I’m trying to confirm something. I have an Amazon pre-order for Killer Queen Black that says it ships last week of September, but I can’t confirm a release date anywhere on the innernetz. Has anyone else heard anything on that front? Possibly on the Tweeterverse maybe? I don’t have any social media accounts.

@brunojenso there’s some pretty bad depictions of rape, if I’m remembering correctly. They added the 18+ classification down there, and this still didn’t pass through. Censorship is VERY complicated, but games like Hotline Miami 2 should 100% be apart of the conversation. I personally don’t support censorship, but if someone who does were to bring up depictions of rape murders, I would have a hard time arguing against their point.

This just got a 37/40 (9/9/9/10) in Famitsu, that’s a darn good score for that magazine.

@TalentedAtGames sure it does! It shouldn’t, but somehow it does haha. Obviously these are just my personal opinions of the game. The in-game graphics and animations are some of the worst I’ve seen on the system (barring the cutscenes), the dialog is relentlessly bad, the acting is non-existent, but the gameplay is superb and is still super fun to play. It’s actually impressive how much of a “fail forward” this game actually is.

There’s SO much I dislike about this game, but the core loop is just so strong that I couldn’t rate it anything less than a 9/10. My review would be one sentence, basically “it’s s*!t, but I love it.”

I don’t even know why companies bother responding with PR anymore. There’s nothing that can be said in today’s internet landscape that won’t get twisted into a myriad of different interpretations so that you’re better off saying nothing at all and let everyone just shrug and speculate. The end result seems to be the same.

I’m just not a fan of digital board games. I would much rather see the core tenets of Pandemic expounded into a video game that takes advantage of the medium. An asymmetrical multiplayer strategy/sim title against a rapidly spreading virus would be a good time if handled properly.

@Kalmaro Personally, he was my least favourite of the series, but I appreciated the zippy/jumpy/agile archetype he filled, mechanically speaking. Cherry seems to be checking a lot of the same boxes. She even does the whole jumping on the shoulders while raining blows down thingy.

@Scollurio I can see how it could come across that way, but I definitely disagree. They’re not all gems, that’s for sure. But, you kind of need to do a deep dive into a guide on the mechanics of some to see where the nuances are. The ACA Neo Geo Sengoku 3 is my personal favourite on the Switch for a Beat Em Up. It’s got great combos and mechanics if you dig into it a little bit, and available for a steal on the system.

Adam being replaced by a family member is pretty on brand for the series. Adam has been an NPC/story element more than he’s been playable. I am actually happy they’re keeping in line with that gag. I would take a tough chick with a guitar over some twerp on rollerblades any. day. of. the. week. I am stoked for this one. Firing up Sengoku 3 and Capcom beat em up bundle tonight to get fired up.

Such bad journalism on account of Digital Trends. The first red flag is “According to Reddit users...”, and they should NEVER have published without hearing back from PR. They mention they reached out for comment but nothing about what that response was. They essentially ran a story corroborated by a subreddit and a call centre employee. Is that the best this industry can do for journalism?

I would be verrrrrrry curious to know the origins of this title, and who all was involved. Very curious, indeed.

It worries me that platforms haven’t been announced yet. All signs point to ‘yes’, but stranger things have happened. Hopefully it’s same day across whatever platforms it lands on.

I hope Nintendo doesn’t let Dual Screen gaming die. How about this idea: allowing a player to use a Switch Lite as a controller for a docked Switch, opening up Dual Screen gaming. I’d bite, especially if they opened up DS/3DS back catalogs. Ohhhh wishful thinking, how you comfort me so.

@jipiboily yeah the ARPG thing is a good observation, it’s kind of a really well-executed celebration of all things “grind”. From resource gatherers, growers, ARPGs, etc. But it ends up being a one-trick pony as a result. But if that’s your jam, it’s a pretty fun time. Like @Dm9982 mentioned above, the pace is kind of accelerated to keep up the excitement, because it really lacks any sort of narrative pull.

An easy recommendation for fans of the genre but if you aren’t, this is not going to be the one to hook you. I can see it being a really divisive experience. It’s got the depth of a Stardew Valley, but the aimlessness of a Minecraft clone without the flexible creation aspects. The end product is very niche IMHO. Be warned.

I have yet to use a single platinum point. I forget they even exist most of the time. Crap discounts on old stuff I already own, wallpapers I would never use, alternate covers I would never waste good ink on. The gold points are great, but they really need to step it up in NA or just get rid of it altogether and beef up the gold points program instead.

Geez, I really get the sense that some of you didn’t even read the quote or bother to make sense of it. It’s almost like some people just wanted to jump on some sort of moving object that has lots of forward momentum. Like a heavy wagon of sorts, one that’s got a band of people on it perhaps.
