Update: And just like that, Cloudscape has reached its Kickstarter goal.
In an update to backers, Gottron has revealed a series of stretch goals including a museum and a farming expansion. The campaign has already generated $60,000 in funding with 28 days still left to go.
Original Article (Wed 23rd Jun, 2021 12:30 BST): If you're on the lookout for a new "Zelda-like" adventure, you might want to keep an eye on Cloudscape.
The debut title from indie studio Konitama (a pen-name for Chris Gottron, an animator who's previously worked on the likes of Spongebob Squarepants, The Fairly OddParents, and She-ra), Cloudscape is an open-world action-adventure survival game headed to Switch. A Kickstarter went live to aid the project's funding yesterday, and it looks like it won't be long before its goal is smashed to pieces.

The game's been inspired by titles like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, mixing survival, action, exploration and social mechanics into one tempting sounding package. Players take on the role of Kumo, a Cloudling who wakes up ashore on a sunny deserted island, and find themselves exploring its surroundings to build a refuge, gather materials, craft weapons, and more to survive amongst the monsters who roam around at night.
Features:
- Explore a rich world with new exotic locales and unlock many new resources, tools and abilities to help take you further into the world.
- Farm, Fish, Forage and Craft as you brave the wilderness and try to bring heaven to earth!
- A cute, whimsical art style created by a veteran of the animation industry who previously worked on childhood defining cartoons like Spongebob Squarepants
- Many inhabitants to meet! Make friends, enemies or even find love
- Fight to survive the night! Craft and uncover new weapons to help defend yourself in the dark, as well as through special dungeons made as a love letter to classic Zelda titles such as A Link To The Past.
- Build a house, decorate it, fill it with stuff! Customize your look with different clothing
- Catch bugs, tame and raise animals (you CAN pet the doggy!), learn to cook, dig for buried treasure, solve puzzles and uncover secrets
- A special Nintendo Switch Physical Edition of Cloudscape available as a reward on Kickstarter! Konitama is working with a trusted partner with a track record of delivering on crowdfunded games to facilitate this.

As you'll spot in the feature list above, one of the Kickstarter rewards is a special physical version on Switch. If you're keen on securing that, or you just want to check out the project for yourself, make sure to visit the Kickstarter here.

Looks promising!
I'll wait for a digital release in 2023....
What's the difference here from other simular games besides the creator who was an industry animator. Also the game looks great
Looks pretty generic
Doesn't look like SpongeBob
You can't craft mayonnaise because it's not an instrument.
Sounds more like Harvest Moon/Rune Factory to me.
Seems like a mix of Stardew Valley and Don't Starve. Not saying it's a bad or good thing.
Man, adorable farming/life life sims are like buses - you wait for one and then a million come along at once!
I'm going to make a kickstarter for a game that's inspired by Zelda, Minecraft, Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, Celeste, Hollow Knight, Mario, Pokemon, Fortnite, and any other popular game that will get people to back my game.
I don't see Zelda in here at all. Stardew Valley (Harvest Moon), and maybe some Starbound
Zelda-Like? It's almost Stardew Valley plagiarism! I wouldn't support this project, it seems unfair to Chucklefish...
Hope his name is good enough to sell this because the trailer did nothing for me.
@inenai Because Stardew never pulled any inspiration from anywhere else...
Inspiration and refinement can lead to great things. Everything has been done before at this point.
@Jey887 I know the difference, but in this case the similarities are just a bit too much in my opinion. The ore stones, the pine trees, the animals, the crops, the whole UI... it all looks WAY too similar to Stardew Valley to me. Even the music uses similar instruments and is composed similarly. The grass, the caves where you mine in... all the assets look almost the same.
@SeaFishelle You're right, I didn't remember the developer's name. Let's leave Chucklefish aside.
Still, know all you're all saying about inspiration. There are a lot of games out there insipired on Zelda so clearly that it's obvious, but they also try to be their own thing. In this case in particular I don't see that. Having played SV a lot, this looks way too much like it. It's my personal opinion. Sorry, but it won't change just because you or @Jey887 don't agree with me. Let's all agree to disagree.
@inenai The world would be a very boring place if we all agreed on everything.
It looks pretty rough. If you are going to Kickstart for funding you should make a small concise arra that is capable of showcasing the core game at its finest. The sprite animations have very few frames so it's lacking some fluidity which is beneficial for cute characters. The walking speed looks so slow. It doesn't look to be separating itself much from other survival games. These types of games are my thing so I will self proclaim I am an expert on what makes these fun!
It doesn't look all that interesting to me, but that's okay.
I mean it hardly looks zelda-like, or something zelda players would enjoy - I can see how it'd scratch a stardew valley/animal crossing vibe though.
Turns out empowering indie devs usually means more generic stardew/minecraft/souls/metroidvania/roguelike mashups.
Any other indie game: This looks generic.
Indie game with a big name working on it: Woah awesome I must get it
As long as I can get the CE Physical then I am in.
