Re: Nintendo Intends To Create The Next Generation Of Controllers

capitalism

I'm glad this is where Nintendo's head is at. Streaming might be the future, but you'll always need controllers, which have arguably been one of Nintendo's biggest strengths throughout the years. Hardware will always be around in some form and Nintendo recognizes that. Call me crazy, but I think Shiggy should take the CEO position. Iwata was a developer as well.

With that said, as much as I love the Joy-Cons, they should either be way cheaper or the drifting problem should be fixed by now.

Safe bets (Besides Fire Emblem which I'm hyped for):
Luigi's Mansion 3
Dameon X Machina
Yoshi's Crafted World
Assassin's Creed
Spyro
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Final Fantasy release dates

Hopes:
Monster Hunter Switch logo reveal
Wave Race
Pikmin 3 or 4 for a Spring release (When is a better time of the year to release Pikmin?)
Starfox Grand Prix reveal trailer
SNES/64 games in the online app
Themes and more features for online app (voice chat, messaging etc.)
XBOX Live integration

Mario Maker 2 (if real) and Animal Crossing will be at E3 and anything Pokemon will be shown at the Pokemon Day event with the Teehouse staff. Most of that game will be shown at E3 as well.

@electrolite77

Of course every company always has to plan for different scenarios in their future, but the fact he COMMUNICATED that in the way he did when his company currently has the best selling console on the market is unwise in my opinion.

Also I don't think this all stems from investor pressure. He's been obsessed with talking about mobile since he's taken over.

Re: Future Business Shift Could See Nintendo Move Away From Home Console Development

capitalism

@UmbreonsPapa

That's where I disagree though, there will ALWAYS be gaming purists which means there will always be a sizable market to sell to. PC gaming has risen in recent years, which means people are still willing to shell out big bucks for hardware. It also means that games that require either beefy graphics cards or really fast internet aren't going anywhere. It's not like Sony or Microsoft won't be susceptible to future happenings so I don't know why certain people are ready to bow out. Nintendo can be quirky, innovative and provide something different and be wildly successful. Just look at Wii and Switch. I understand smartphones need to be a part of the mix, but honestly I would rather have streaming services with beefy games (like a new Mario) with hardware (whether that be a box, TV etc) with Nintendo controllers any day. I believe the bulk of Nintendo's RD money should be put into streaming, screens, TV's, projectors/holograms and controllers over smartphones. Some may disagree but that's where I stand. If Capcom can afford to invest in streaming, so should Nintendo. They just have to have the will.

@electrolite77
I and a lot of others don't mind if Nintendo invests in smartphone games, but we all just want to make sure smartphones won't become their MAIN investment in the gaming sector. I get that NL were a little sketch in how they presented the info, but even before this article the new president seems obsessed with mobile. Yes Iwata (reluctantly) moved Nintendo into mobile, but at every step of the way he assured us all that Nintendo would ALWAYS be involed in the hardware business. Adamantly and concisely, every time. When you're the President of a major corporation what you say and how you say it matters a lot, especially with stockholders and die-hard fans.

Been a Nintendo fan for 27 years and this guy has rubbed me the wrong way since he got in. I think he's wrong for Nintendo and I believe he should be replaced. Smart phone games are trash and I don't have ONE installed on my phone that I've actually paid for or put money into.

You will always need some kind of hardware to play video games on and I expect Nintendo to make that hardware whether it's powered by streaming or not. Maybe partner with Panasonic again to make a gaming TV that streams games with Nintendo controllers that are exclusive. Yes make some games available on PC but have exclusives you can only get on that "Nintendo TV." Screens/projectors/holograms will always be needed to watch and play content on so maybe look for ways to innovate in that area. I bet the community would be more open to those ideas than saying Nntendos future is smartphone games.

I get that companies need to branch out and explore new ventures, but they also need to stay true to the core products and philosophy of the company which they are known for. Yes Nintendo started out as something else long, long ago, but entering the console market in the eighties took them from an obscure Japenese company to a global behemoth. You need to understand that Furukawa, or get the hell out.

Re: Sledgehammer Games Has a Definitive Answer on Call of Duty: WWII for Nintendo Switch - "No"

capitalism

@GrailUK

The Switch is more than capable of running a game with a World War 2 setting and speak for yourself because having a portable call of duty or other portable AAA third party games would be a dream come true for a lot of gamers including myself. What, because the Switch can't run 4K games you don't think it should get big multiplatform releases? Give me a break. Even though I own a powerful gaming PC that's double the power of the Xbox One X and runs games in FULL 4K I still want big AAA games to come to the Switch because I'm a Nintendo fan and because portability means a lot to me especially since I travel for my job.

The Switch supports Unreal Engine 4 and a bunch of other modern engines, is supposedly really easy to port to, is easy to develop for and we still have UK Sony fanboys coming over to this site proclaming that Switch can't handle Frogger.

Re: Sledgehammer Games Has a Definitive Answer on Call of Duty: WWII for Nintendo Switch - "No"

capitalism

Definitely sucks because I've bought every Call of Duty that's come to Nintendo consoles but people have to understand these kinds of games will be coming next year for the Switch. Why you ask? Because a lot of third parties were burned by the Wii U and before the Switch RELEASED were skeptical about how well it would perform in the market. If Switch sells gamgbusters this holiday season though you can be rest assured that we will get games like Call of Duty next year.

The same thing happened with the Wii. Third parties were skeptical because of the GameCube but when it started selling like hotcakes third parties started bringing the games over. Don't let these Nintendoomers make you think the world is collapsing over this.

Also, I was pumped about the World War 2 setting but since Sledgehammer decided to be historically inaccurate and go the politically correct route I won't even pick this up on PC like I was planning to do if there was no Switch port. Nope my military shooter this year will be Battlefield 1 with all the DLC coming out this Fall.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Some Stats for the ARMS Global Testpunch

capitalism

I just couldn't get into this one guys. I honestly wanted to like it but it's just not my cup of tea. I was skeptical about it during the January reveal and my fears have come true. Looks like I'm gonna pick up some Street Fighter II and NBA Playgrounds to hold me off until Splatoon 2.

Re: Poll: Do You Think Call Of Duty: WWII Will Come To Switch, And Would You Want It If It Did?

capitalism

Treyarch has always been Nintendo friendly and they're usually the ones to port the Call of Duty games to Nintendo systems regardless of who is developing the game at the time so there is some hope for this. Make it happen Treyarch. I remember playing World at War on Wii and that game made all my friends think differently about the Wii at the time. Would love for COD to return to a Nintendo system.

Re: Review: Mr. Shifty (Switch eShop)

capitalism

I've actually enjoyed playing it and the HD Rumble feels great with this game. Yeah the frame rate acts up once in a while but it's not unplayable in my opinion. They already said there's a patch coming to fix that(I agree, not in the best way) so I'm totally happy with my purchase. Definitely doesn't deserve a 5.5

Re: Nintendo Switch OS Version 2.2.0 Is Now Live

capitalism

@iphys

Hold down the power button on top of the console until a power off option appears. Let the system completely power down for 20 seconds then power back on. Had the same problem and I found the solution on some weird forum online. You would be surprised at how many people don't know how to power off their Switch.

Re: Mr. Shifty Devs Tackling Frame Rate Issues After Initially Suggesting You Should Pick Steam Over Switch

capitalism

Look at all the frame rate whores trying to ruin a developers reputation. Then you guys wonder why devs are skeptical about releasing their content on Nintendo platforms.

Been playing the game and loving it. The HD Rumble feels great and the gameplay is satisfying. It seems like the frame rate is better in handheld mode but even when it acts up in docked mode it isn't that bad in my opinion. Glad to hear that the devs are working on a patch though. The game is number 7 on the best sellers list on the eshop so the chronic complainers are a vocal minority.

Re: Payday 2 Announced For Nintendo Switch

capitalism

@JaxonH

I agree it's the same reason why Ubisoft already announced Steep, Rayman, and Monopoly all before E3. I think Nintendo is going to blow us away this year.

Payday 2 was a very welcome surprise today and
I can't wait to rob some banks looking like John Wick with my friends. And to the people calling this "an old game": It's still getting updates and DLC to this day. Nice try though.

@Masticore

Well you'll be pleasantly surprised that along with Payday 2 you can look forward to Steep, FIFA 18, NBA Playgrounds, NBA 2K 18, Fire Emblem Warriors, Mr. Shifty, Ultra Street Fighter 2, Shakedown Hawaii, the two THQ Nordic games in today's Direct, Fate of Extella, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and hopefully Dragon Quest Heroes which are all coming out this year. And those are all the confirmed games coming out this year before we hear anything at E3 which is where we'll see the big guns. Don't worry, you'll have plenty titles to play on your Switch when the kiddos go to bed. 😉

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Promises "A Big E3" For Nintendo This Year

capitalism

@Mogster

I'll add to mattbtz's list with Pikmin 3 which doesn't get the attention it deserves. And if that games doesn't scream risky then I don't know what does. Saying that Nintendo can't produce AAA content anymore comes off as fanboyish though because we all know they can still put out quality software whether it's "safe" or not. Maybe the content Nintendo produces isn't your cup of tea but for a lot of people it still is.

On topic:

Nintendo needs to hit it out of the park at this year's E3 so here's what I would like to see:

Pokemon Stars
A TON of Mario Odyssey
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Splatoon 2
Fire Emblem Warriors
Decent amount of third party content (updates on Steep, Skyrim, FIFA, NBA, and some surprises like Call of Duty World War 2, WWE 2K, Madden, Assassins Creed, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and another Bethesda game)
A total reveal on how online and subscription services will work.

Surprises from Nintendo I would like to see:
Luigi's Mansion for Switch
A Metroid teaser with some gameplay
Wave Race
Batallion Wars
Diddy Kong Racing(this would be perfect since Mario Kart 8 deluxe means we won't have a brand new Mario Kart for a long time)

@Dysnomia

😂😂 I never said anything about being surprised and you sir are clearly the idiot for still not understanding the difference between being called an American and NOA representing more than the U.S.. Do Germans say they're European or do they say they're German? Yes they are European but European includes more countries than just Germany. The U.S. is different because like you said no one calls us U.S.'ers but that's because it's weird to say and because the U.S. is the most powerful country in the Americas so Europeans just started to call us Americans.

I can't believe I have to explain this to someone for so long on a video game website. Have a good night man.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Pits Nintendo Switch vs. PS4 in Dragon Quest Heroes II Comparison

@Alshain01

You can act like your a Nintendo fan all you want but 99% of your posts on this site are either negative or snarky. And once again we have somebody who thinks that being passive aggressive against Nintendo while at the same time saying they're "big fans of Nintendo" makes them look so smart and sophisticated as a troll.

And Switch is breaking records in both America and Europe and both of those divisions aren't going to lie. People would be fired if the actual numbers came out and there weren't any records broken. You can live in fanboy lala land all you want but your dreams of Switch failing aren't coming true. And once again judging by the sales numbers it looks like a lot more people agree with me that a true hybrid console is more appealing than what a vocal minority here on Nintendo Life would make you believe.

If I want true 4K gaming at 100fps I'll play it on my rig that has a GTX 1080 which blows the PS4 Pro and Scorpio out of the water.

If I want a console I'll go with the hybrid that is portable and offers HD Rumble which is something the other two companies can't offer me.
