Today Activision is hosting a livestream event to officially lift the lid on this year's Call of Duty entry. After the last few instalments pushed the action further and further into the future, the company has decided to turn back the clock and return to World War II, the conflict in which the very first Call of Duty game was based.
Call of Duty: WWII is a dead cert for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC, but the big question for Nintendo fans relates to a Switch version. Given that Activision previously supported the Wii U with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Call of Duty: Ghosts, it's not out of the question that a Switch edition of this new game will make the cut - although it should be noted that the Wii U Call of Duty games were based on the PS3/Xbox 360 code as those two systems were still current at that time. Any Call of Duty for Switch would require quite a bit of additional work, one would imagine.
Still, with the Switch selling like hot cakes early on Activision will be mindful of missing out on potential sales, and while there's a power gap between the console and its rivals, a scaled-back port may be possible.
We'll know for sure later today (6PM BST time, 1PM ET) but in the meantime, cast your vote in the polls below to let us know your prediction and stance. Do you think Call of Duty will return to Nintendo with this entry, and - more importantly - would you bother buying it if you knew that shinier versions existed on other consoles?

I think it will come and hope it does. Sure we got them on Wii and Wii U(their commercial failure there may put them off), so why not Switch? Though it may be gimped, hopefully not. The other ports were good.
Edit: Actually, upon reflection, with the big reveal today, you'd imagine that if there was a Switch version, that Nintendo and Activision would be hyping it. Who knows? We'll find out in a little over 6 hours time. It'll be a big negative against the Switch if it doesn't get the game.
I think it has a chance if only because they made inferior Wii games and were there for the Wii U at launch.
There is no way this game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Not unless it is a different game created for the Switch.
Of course. That's AAA third party support. The Black Ops II and Ghosts communities are still active on Wii U online. There is no argument from a Nintendo fan's standpoint against having the wider library and the eyes that these games bring.
There really is no sense to the people claiming to be Nintendo fans who don't want it.
No chance. For better or worse the Switch is a technological generation behind all other formats and I doubt the developers will go out their way to downgrade the game for the limited Switch audience.
If we get anything at all I think it will be a CoD game made exclusively for the Switch in a couple of years time.
We already know it's not coming.
It would be nice to have a big game like that series on the switch, especially since it seems to have brought some of the causal audience back. Personally I'd really like to get the Bioshock trilogy since I'm more of a single player FPS fan. Plus the fact that it never made it to the VITA and the cell port sucks, I'm just dying for some handheld Rapture
I doubt it will, but I will buy it if it does
I don't think this one will come to the Switch. Seems to me they have bigger fish to fry. Revitalizing the franchise, for starters. Once more Switches are sold, I think they'll release some CoD title for it, whether it's a late port of this one or a new entry.
In any case, I'll skip it. Zero interest, no matter what they do.
The WW2 setting has been done to death, zero interest in this.
laughing at the current poll results
Like I'd waste my time with FPS shovelware. Call of Duty is the epitome of trash and I'll have no part in it. Good luck to those of you who do want to see it though - my thoughts will be with you.
I wouldn't buy it even if it did release on the Switch. I'd get it on my Xbox. My Switch is a second console (just as my WiiU, Wii, and GameCube were before it.)
If the Switch becomes really popular I wouldn't be surprised to see it release though... just like COD3 made on appearance on the Wii.
I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'm hungry for Call of Duty on the go.
If a Call of Duty game gets good reviews due to it's single-player, I'd always consider picking it up months later when it's cheap as heck. So far that's rarely happened. I can't even remember which ones I've played.
Anyway, I'm not sure about it coming to Switch. In the past, they've had the first one or two on the new console, and then they drop. But will they even bother this time, is a difficult one to guess.
Frankly, I think they should. It's not as if it would impact them greatly, and it would show them if it's worth it in the future.
Lots of cod hate still. I had lots of fun with black ops 2 for wii u and would be happy if I could play cod on my switch. The newest cod's don't interest me cause of all the flying bull crap but seeing as they are going back to the roots of the franchise I would pick it up.
I wouldn't buy CoD on Switch because I think they are dreadful games void of creativity or inspiration, but it's definitely important that it comes to the console.
The Switch has the advantage of being truly portable, so this may factor into it's worth on being ported. I don't play many FPS games, so I wouldn't buy it, but it would be nice to see others get their wish.
I hope it comes for the Switch's sake and those who want to play it but I'm not interested in it myself.I bought Black Ops 2 for 3 quid a few months ago just to play through the campaign and while I finished it and got some moderate enjoyment from it,I'm glad a few quid was all I paid.
I have no idea why the franchise is still so successful.
I would buy it in a heartbeat because I LOVE World War 1/2 FPS. Any and all of them. Battlefield 1 for example is one of the most superb games that I've played in the last 10 years I'd say, so to now go back to its roots and make the Call Of Duty name mean something again, I'm all for.
If I want Sci-fi shooting I'd play Halo.
Plus if they DON'T bring it out for Switch it means I can't get rid of my Xbox One yet lol.
I love my Xbox One for the record but have no time to play long, drawn out story games anymore, so I'm trying to complete my library and then sell it.
When I have those rare moments of peace to game, I just like to kick back, relax, and play something that doesn't require me to think much, like Mario Kart or Bomberman.
If it requires extra work to get it on the Switch, I'm almost certain it won't come to the console. It it did come to the Switch though, I'd get it since it's my main console of choice.
It would be nice to see it on switch. But I won't buy it. Not a cod guy. More of a battlefield guy.
I would definitely buy it for my switch if it becomes available.
I am a PS plus member but to be honest I couldn't tell you the last time I played a PS4 game online and the 2 free monthly games never seem to interest me either so I wont be renewing it when it expires in July / August.
I will instead use that money to pay for Nintendo's online service when it starts so it makes sense for me to buy it on a Nintendo platform
I don't care personally (if it's any good I'll buy it for PS4 Pro) and I don't think it will but yes of course I'd like it to. Why would anybody not want it to come out for Switch? You don't have to buy it.
@hendie001 hate? Hardly. I think what you're mostly seeing is rank indifference. I don't hate COD, but I also wouldn't shed a single tear if the series sank beneath the waves never to be heard from again.
That said, Nintendo should probably do whatever it takes to get some sort of version of this on Switch--people taking their consoles to work/the park/school/etc. w/ some split-screen action via table-top mode would be a fantastic marketing opportunity beyond the one presented by Mario Kart.
Call of duty on WW2 on Switch would be a massive win for Nintendo as it would likely sell a fair few Switchs, but personally I am done with the franchise. I haven't bought a COD game since Modern Warfare 2, they all just seem so samey despite the different locations (WW2, Veatnam, Modern, Future, Sci Fi) and unless WW2 brings something highly fresh to the table I cant see myself getting interested. And I think the problem is a lot of Nintendo fans feel the same way.
I don't buy COD on any platform but, if it was on switch and bc decent I would. If nothing else just to have something else to play on my shiny new toy.
It needs major rework if it were to run on the switch because of the huge gap between the Switch and PS4/Xbone/PC. I don't think it's coming to the Switch but i hope it does. During the Wii U era we got a few Call Of Duty games because Activision was also developing those titles for the Xbox 360 and PS3. So unless Nintendo stepped up or Activision sees a huge market (which there isn't) It's not coming.
@ThatNyteDaez Exactly the sort of opinion which stops Nintendo doing well with third parties.
If you were a Nintendo fan, you'd want every big game there is on your console. Simple as that.
@OorWullie One word: online. It's one of the most addictive game experiences there is.
Hard to say at this point. I think Activision will sit this CoD out on Switch and see how the system sells through the year. If it keeps selling well, I'd bet anything that next year's CoD will show up on Switch. I don't think they're willing to gamble at this point after the miserable fate of the Wii U.
I would love a FPS or two for the Switch. Doubt this one will come but the next one probably will.
I don't think the COD games are brilliant but people do love to jump on the net bandwagon and say they are the WORST GAMES EVAH! I wonder how many of those people would have the same feelings if they stumbled across COD as an un-hyped random game on a store shelf and bought it on the off chance it was decent. I very much doubt most would walk away saying it was the worst sort of trash they'd ever played.
@stylon "Just like COD3 made an appearance on the Wii".
What? COD3 was a Wii launch game. There were five Wii CODs altogether, and two more on Wii U.
Don't know what point you're trying to make.
I think a lot of people are voting no to buying it because they think it won't happen on Switch so they're acting like they never wanted it anyway.
I will be first in line if i did.
@ECMIM Nah, it is hate. It's completely irrational, and it misses the point that Nintendo NEEDS these third-party games to be considered alongside the other formats.
@olrodlegacy I think you need to read the comments again. Most people are just saying they won't buy it, not that it shouldn't be part of the Switch's catalog.
@olrodlegacy no, it's not hate--it's ambivalence. Most people--myself included--are saying it should be on the machine, just that many of us don't care about actually buying it, which seems...perfectly reasonable?
Hell, 54% of the poll respondents would consider or absolutely buy it, with another 8% saying they'll buy it on another platform, so you're talking nearly 2/3rds are fans of some sort--on what planet is that "hate"??
I would buy it immediately, just because they went back to the WW2 roots. I simply hate all the space/sci-fi COD, therefore I didn't get any of those.
There are so many WW2-scenarios that haven't been addressed yet and furthermore, why is it we never got any COD Korean War?
@ECMIM @MarcelRguez Most aren't saying it should be on the machine though.
It's made worse by all the silly "haha I'm too much of a snob now for COD" comments which spread that attitude.
well i can see Activision releasing at least one CoD game on the Switch to test it's waters so to speak, whether or not it will be this one i can't say but i would get it on Switch to see how it plays
One of my reasons for being a sole Nintendo man comes from lazy ports and regurgitation on the other systems. I have generally trusted Nintendo to evolve their IP's and make them worth while to buy repeatedly.
However I have enjoyed most of the previous entries and would buy this and the switch really does need this in the UK market.
No way. The series to me has become pretty stale. Definitely a pass from me.
I'm not a fan of the series so I wouldn't buy it personally, but I would love to see it on the Switch. It would be a major third party titles, plus appearing alongside the other versions would go a long way.
@olrodlegacy Most aren't saying it should be on the machine though.
Borderline persecutory delusion.
@olrodlegacy Not sure how you got not wanting any third party games on the system from my personally thinking the game is trash, but you're free to assume what you want...
That said, you should probably reread my comment again. I stated I wished people who wanted the game good luck. Don't be so quick to point the finger next time.
I'm not a fan of CoD, but spontaneous tabletop multiplayer could be amazing, so this could be my very first Day One CoD purchase if that is the case. Bring it on, Activision.
While it would be a nice addition to the NS library, I'm done with the FPS genre for the time being. Besides that, was never a fan of CoD.
I'd rather have 3rd party support in the form of new IPs, instead of just getting inferior ports of multi-platform games. How about any of the other developers under Activision: Raven Soft, Beenox, High Moon Studios, Vicarious Visions.....they've all worked on Nintendo systems before so it would be nice to have an original game pop up from any of these devs.
Who am I kidding though, 3rd parties nowadays only care about what kind of console-exclusive deals they can get while making games with little-to-no progression in mechanics or AI.
BO2 multiplayer was pretty addictive on WiiU although the solo campaign was dire. Going back to WW2 has me tempted but I doubt this will make an apparance on the Switch. Nintendo doesn't want to associate this sort of game with their family friendly and trustworthy company ethos so they won't be hassling Activision for a port. This game is for already established console gamers- Ninty is aiming for everyone. I personally want a switch port as it will contribute to even more hardware sales and then Ninty may do some more mature games again- I'm looking at you Waverace, 1080, Eternal Darkness etc.
Nope. Note interested in this dross at all.
@olrodlegacy Yeah I didn't phrase that at all well. Point I was trying to make was that just because they stopped releasing on Nintendo hardware because of poor sales it doesn't mean they won't come back if the tables turn. If the Switch proves to be as popular as some predict then I think it will re-appear, as will many other 3rd party games.
If an FPS comes to switch, make it Borderlands. 4 player co-op baby. That's what I want.
Do the CoD games have local split-screen? That could be a selling point for me.
No & No, i'm not interested in it. As a shooter i'm fine with just Splatoon 2. But is it better if it comes to Switch? Of course!
It would be a good addition to Switch's library for people who like portable multiplayer, but I personally have no interest in it. While it wouldn't be good if it didn't come to the system, I also don't think CoD is a make or break title.
Wether people like it or not this type of game will decide Nintendo's place on the market. To rival the mainstream consoles they need mainstream AAA game franchise's like this. Cod/FIFA/assassins creed gear are why people buy hardware in the current market place! so if the switch doesn't bother with them then it'll just be a 1st party console and therefore an expensive second console for some but the primary console for few.
I personally would love to see cod on switch, I've always found online to be more competitive than say ps where all the 'elite' players are so good you can't win😉
@shaneoh At least there's no more robots/space or in a nut shell Halo rubbish in COD now.
No thanks, I would be very depressed and disappointed if this came to the Switch along with the CoD kids!
I liked most cod games. Black ops on Wii and 2 on Wii u were great fun.
I'm mostly in it for a quality online experience though. This means enough players, proper support and good gameplay.
If it hits switch, I'll pick it up.
Although I don't like CoD, I do know that it's a popular game series and I do believe it's important for it to come to the Switch. Part of what the Switch needs is to have a lot of the big 3rd party games like CoD for example, but then keep up their 1st party stuff, so when people are deciding on a new console, they realize that they can get access to a bunch of cool Nintendo games, along with their favorites they had already from Xbox/PlayStation
Hope it does get announced but not sure it will. Activision got burnt with the the Wii U version so so sure they are ready to drop a new game on a Nintendo console yet.
@ThatNyteDaez It wasn't specific to you - the case that "Nintendo doesn't need third party games anyway" often pops up in threads.
It's so frustrating when you desperately want the console and the company to succeed.
Not really my thing, to be honest. I spent enough time being a soldier in real life, and if I never hold another assault rifle for the rest of my life it will be fine with me. There's no denying it would be good for Nintendo, but it's not for me.
I won't buy it but there are fans that may want it. So, bring it if the people want it
Yes. The way Nintendo has played coy regarding AAA third party announcements, and kept quiet about who's been gobbling up all the dev kits, I'm guessing it will be on there.
I never played Call of Duty, but I was always very impressed with the effort put in to the Wii U versions. I'm sure a Switch version would be of sterling quality.
Call of Duty uses Infinity Wards own inhouse IW Engine.
So it depends if that Engine supports the Switch hardware, if we will see a port or not.
It depends on how well Nintendo would handle the online experience.
If the gyro is used as a aim assist yes
Long ago that i played a call of duty. Should do that again someday.
But im sure it will be the pc. Seriously i dont care for multis on the switch. I can have the better experience on other platforms. Give me games like sky crawlers or fragile dreams and im happy.
Please NO! It is enough to we have FIFA! No more crap games.
@FragRed shaving off some textures [if need be] and/or implementing HD Rumble is the definition of an "entirely different game" now? Then Driver on Gameboy Color must qualify as an entirely different franchise in comparison. XD
Not for me, but hope it gets released on the Switch. Reading this comment section reminds me of the discussion on whether Switch should have achievements or not.
I'd much prefer this over any of the latest CoDs. I'd like to see it happen. I'd buy it.
@G-Boy Yes, instead of the "CoD kids" coming to the Switch, we need Switch sales to be low!
Hopefully all of the triple AAA games come to the Switch in some form. It will be good and be more attractive to casual gamers and gives us Nintendo fans extra choice too. I don't mind the odd game of COD from time to time and this could be fun. I'll keep an open mind.
Sure, it would be cool if it came (and all that matters in this regard as far as Activision is concerned is how well the Switch is doing, really). I, however, am not at all into first-person shooters, and this wouldn't change anything in this regard.
The third-party game I'm looking forward to the most this year has to be Red Dead Redemption 2, but the chance of that coming is pretty much zero. Oh well, that's why I have a PS4.
We'll see. Personally I'm not sure if it will be released on the Switch, but that's a plus if it does.
I just happen to have little to no interest in the series.
@nhSnork Joycon point controls would also be a big plus for the Switch version... Not to mention the portability of it.
@ClassSonicSatAm
Robots and space are still a fresher setting that WW2
I would normally say this is definitely not coming to switch because it is extra work for activision, but infinite warfare didn't do so well so maybe?
Call of Duty isn't my sort of game at all. However, it's a major franchise and a lot of people buy COD games, so I'd like to see the Switch get a version that's not a downgrade to the other consoles' versions, with the Switch version having the same price and release date to the other consoles as well.
It would certainly do the Switch some good, here hoping Activision delivers the goods.
I can see why Nintendo consoles always have poor third party support after looking at all the hate for CoD in this comment section, lol.
I have zero cares. Now, Star Wars Battlefront on the other hand...
I don't think it will and to be honest don't care if it does, I own a PS4 and still won't buy it.
I haven't gotten the last couple CoD games, kinda burnt out on them. I would definitely pick it up for the switch if it did come out. Being able to play anywhere would be a total game changer.
Call of Duty still exist? Hopefully this is their last game, all the people I knew doesn't play COD anymore so there's nothing for me to get excited about.
hopefully, we gotta train our soilders
@KirbyTheVampire
"I can see why Nintendo consoles always have poor third party support after looking at all the hate for CoD in this comment section"
Indeed. People actually not wanting a game to come out on a console. Mindblowing.
@KirbyTheVampire CoD is the cancer that is killing 3rd party games. It's the shovelware of FPS never bringing anything new to the table besides slightly updated graphics and new skins for all their old characters.
Call of Duty needs to just end.
I'm not that interested in CoD personally, but i do think it should come to the Switch. More third party support is a good thing.
I enjoyed Black Ops but after that I started to lose interest. If it comes to the Switch then that is great for those that want to play it. I hope the Switch will get more shooters and horror games as well.
Wow, the no's win in both questions. What a sad conclusion.
This SHOULD come to the Switch, and EVERYONE with a bit of a brain or any capacity of also being able to think of what others might want or what would be good for Nintendo third party support-wise, should welcome it, even if they have no interest in it themselves, but WAY too many people are too egoistic to see that and just reason from their own wants/needs. Pathetic, really...
As for the franchise being done or tired: to me, the real world war stories are a hundred-fold more interesting than the cybertech adventures with exo-armor and hyper-futuristic weapons that we have now in the current games.
There are so many angles they could still take, just look at the Battlefield franchise: their WW1 game is actually quite interesting if you're into shooters, so there's still a lot of room for expansion in that direction.
And if you think that everything has already been done or said, just look at channels like National Geographic, that also keep coming up with new stories on the great wars, and that also continue to deliver new facts and insights. All good material for a whole bunch of new World War shooters.
@shaneoh, actually that's what people where saying about the CoD games set in the future and modern times, everyone is sick and tires of how crazy the games been going. People been wanting a World War 2 game because they hadn't done one in years and it would put the series back to basics.
@Alikan You're entitled to your opinion, I'm just saying that third party games are always burned at the stake like this by Nintendo fans, and yet they're always disappointed that Nintendo consoles barely get any AAA third party support.
@ThanosReXXX Spot on. Spot on. Spot on.
The way some people react in here is jokes. Because you don't like COD you hope it doesn't get released. That's some silly logic.
Why do you care if it is released as you wasn't gonna buy it anyway.
Do I think its coming to the Switch, no. Would I buy it if it did, yes. I had the two on the Wii U, and would welcome this, and third party support is appreciated, even if you don't like the game.
Don't think it will come, if it did I'll pass on it
@olrodlegacy Thanks!
@KirbyTheVampire luckily, I won't be disappointed. I buy Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games. Most 3rd party IPs have been stuck in an endless loop for the past ten years. My Xbox One is a glorified media player that sometimes runs Fallout 4, Dragon Age Inquisition, Starwars Battlefront, Master Chief collection, and Rare Replay.
I think most of the triple AAA games won't be of much interest to Nintendo fans which in turn will lead to less of them being released but I do think having them sitting beside nintendo 1st party games will do the Switch's long term future no harm.
@ThanosReXXX To be fair the question is "will it come", not "should it come". I understand your point and agree, it should come to the Switch.
I mean, both the wii and wii u got iterations. I just get this feeling it is not coming this time around.
First of all, did they get a dev kit early enough to make a quality port or to release along side the other versions. If it doesn't release along side then I don't think most would wait for the switch version just for a portable COD, and by time it did come out I feel the user base on switch would be too small take make it worth playing online. Hopefully I'm wrong though.
Also, no P90? No buy! ;P
@roboshort and even gyro aiming in portable mode - a great asset to such games on consoles.
@Xilef
They usually don't, as far as I know. But the Wii U versions did offer local multiplayer through one person playing on the GamePad.
I lost interest in CoD when it left WWII and a decent single-player campaign behind. They're 50% on track here, so I'd consider a purchase, but don't expect I'll need to.
Would prefer Battlefront StarWars.
@WiiHawk you missed out on modern warfare? Modern warfare was miles better than any world war COD game
i wouldn't be surprised if it didn't. i could always get it on a different console. but may double dip (if it DOES come) only because i always wanted to play Call of Duty on the go. (besides DS)
@brettwayne Yeah, true. The phrasing of the question is somewhat goading, but that doesn't mean that people don't have the freedom to add something more positive or thoughtful to it in the comment sections, instead of "No, I don't want it and I don't need it, so I don't care if it doesn't come to the Switch"...
@Captain_Gonru TWO COPIES??? That must be the reason/explanation of why I was able to still acquire those games so long after their release, since I bought both Wii U COD's only three months ago...
It's probably not happening, though it should. COD is no longer nearly as strong as it was in the past. It would be in Activision's best interest to get COD on all current viable platforms.
Pretty sure whatever they are making the game with would be beyond the Switch hardware limitations.
Oh, yay, another WWII game. It's like it's 2005 all over again. And people think Nintendo's behind the times?
Brown & gray with a hint of greed color palate, calling it now.
I most definitely won't be buying COD. Not interested in the base gameplay, the online, or the rehashed Hollywood action-hero WWII theme (Best WWII era game I played was The Saboteur from EA (who promptly shut down the studio the day after release due to too low pre-order sales and less than perfect Metacritic rating). It was a stylized, artistic, flawed, but otherwise different perspective taking place in occupied Paris.) WWII hero shooters were boring the first time, and now are boring and dated.
I do think there's a chance for Switch support though, given past Nintendo support, the curent trending popularity of the console, the handheld aspect, and the budget this series has to work with.
And before anyone jumps me for "Nintendo fans don't buy third parties", I bought Call of Duty: Back Ops II, and Call of Doggie: Ghosts on WiiU (The Pikanese DLC unfortunately never arrived), despite not having had any interested in COD on ANY platform, because I wanted to see how such a franchise fared on Nintendo. The ONLY two CODs I've bought were on Nintendo.
I was just reading on some other gaming websites that a Switch version is unlikely.
I think people are wholly negative on this as they don't expect it to happen.
To be honest, the prospect of playing an online game anywhere in the world anytime I want is an utterly ridiculously amazing concept and EVERY multiplayer game made from now a n should be in Switch.
All multiplayer games I play are hindered by the fact I have to sit in my lounge to play them.
Death match on lunch break? Bus travel? Particularly long toilet trip?
YES!!!! How can anyone say no to being able to log straight and play your favourites anytime anywhere? It's stupid.
The Switch is THE first true innovation in gaming since the dreamcast. (Actualised global online console gaming outside of Japan)
@FragRed You're answer makes no sense and you have nothing to back that up. There were Wii and Wii U CoD releases and the Switch is burying the Wii U and possibly the Wii in sales, buzz and momentum. The Wii U CoD games were really well done and my favorite platform to play Black Ops II was definitely the Wii U. The Switch is also ideal for LAN tournaments and other competitive gaming and it would be the company's first really workable opportunity for a 'portable' version of the franchise. There are many reasons for them to take on the Switch. Is it possible that they will skip the Switch or release it at a later date? Sure. But it really wouldn't make sense. I don't see the logic in it and I don't see it making good business sense. If Nintendo had collective brain one in their marketing heads, there would be a special edition Switch and any in game touch device would be made to look like a pimped out Switch to tie it all together. Maybe as an exclusive DLC Skin. Seriously... a version of the game with exclusive Switch DLC packaged with a CoD themed Switch; day one sell out.
The third question should be, "Do you think a lot of people who don't ever visit this site would be more likely to think of Switch as a viable option if it had Call of Duty: WWII and games like it?"
Even if you're not necessarily interested in the game yourself, the Switch getting a version is good as far as the perception of the system starting to receive stronger third party support goes. Wii U didn't even get Advanced Warfare and the gimped version of BO3 the PS3/360 got because CoD Ghosts tanked so badly.
Getting Activision back on board would be a good step in the right direction. The only real question is how easy would it be for Sledgehammer to scale the game back just enough to get it running reasonably well on Switch.
CoD BO 2 Wii U was the best local coop experience i had in video games, playing without share the same screen was awesome. I really want the next CoD on NS.
@OneArmedGiant I wish this was the case, but if i remember correctly Gearbox had some nasty things to say about switch, but if it sells well enough maybe they'll get on board.
Scorpio 4K version
PS4 Pro 1440p Version
PS4 1080p version
Xbox One 900p Version
Switch 720P Version
Yes it should and most won't mind it running at 720p.
One of those things. If it was on the Switch it would definitely shift units, as a lot of people like CoD and would relish playing it on the go. Much the same as FIFA or [insert sports game here]. That target audience is obviously not the same as the people who visit sites like these.
Me personally? Not my cup of tea.
Is this game was ported using Vulkan it would totally work and work well.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I voted yes because I think it's still possible switch could get it, but I don't want it just because i'm not a huge fan of FPS on consoles. There's just something I like about keyboard and mouse when it comes to FPS. Although i did pick up a couple of call of duty games for PS4 and got black ops 2 on wii u, but less for me and more for my nephew when he came over to hang out because i'm a good uncle .
I think Modern Warfare Remastered is more likely for Switch this year as I think it'll become a standalone game (currently it's a bonus for Infinite Warfare special editions) in the fall for the other consoles and so Switch coming at the same time would make sense. That will test the waters and if the console and MWR sell well on Switch then CoD 2018 comes to Switch.
I voted no for buying CoD WWII if it came to Switch because I generally disliked the previous WWII CoD games like CoD3 and World at War.
@Grumblevolcano That is the sexiest paragraph I have read all week! Modern Warfare was the last CoD I played and would love it to come to Switch all remastered and stuff.
I would buy it for gyro controls and LAN multiplayer.
For all the weird dissenters out there getting huffy about the poll responses, the questions are: do you think it will come, and do you think you will buy it. For me, the answers to both are "no."
If the question were "do you want it to come to the Switch?" my answer is "Sure, why not?" I'd like to think many other people would agree. Honestly, I couldn't care less about Call of Duty at this point, but other people still do, and if it can be successful and lead to more support from the folks at Activision, then why not?
I lol'ed so hard when I read the title of the Poll. Nintendo fans can be such masochists. Seriously.
Yes I want it to come to the Switch. Not because I love FPS games but because a more diverse library only helps, not hurts the gaming ecosystem. More games for everyone.
Let me start by saying no chance it's in the Switch.
If it somehow did, I figure it would be gimped and wouldn't swell well. Leading to the inevitable "Nintendo gamers won't buy our products so no need in making them" statement.
I have no interest in any COD, I prefer single player or couch coop like borderlands to any multiplayer shooter. The Switch needs games but I'm not sure this one is the best game to port.
@olrodlegacy
I voted that the game isn't coming. Which Is diff than I HOPE it doesn't be come. As a Switch owner the more AAA games on the Switch bodes well for me. I have no real interest in COD personally, unless it has a great single player campaign mode) but I hope the game doesn't come and sells well.
Reality says otherwise.
While I am personally not a fan of Call of Duty, it is absolutely important for Nintendo to get titles like these on Switch.
@NEStalgia So because you bought CoD, that means Nintendo fans buy AAA third party games?
Pass, No thank you.
It could be down to timing, maybe Activision were unsure if the Switch would sell as well as it had while making the game.
If this one skips the Switch, I imagine next year's game has a chance given how well the Switch has sold so far.
I would rather have a bespoke game for the Switch. A 1st person shooter that uses the IR camera to recognise military hand signals so you can command a squad like Arnie in Predator hehe.
@ThanosReXXX I wouldn't mind seeing WW II being done with an alternative story. Like Japan fully invading the USA for example.
I hope it does come to Switch, and I will be buying it on there if it does. We need these types of games on Switch. They are huge draws because of name and truthfully, the games are pretty decent. This along with AC, Madden, and FIFA are games that Nintendo needs to have. In my opinion at least. Take care everyone.
I know what shooter I DO want on Switch... a Conduit 1 & 2 Remastered ir Conduit 3.
I don't know. On one hand, most AAA Western games are skipping Switch, so by that logic this one should too.
On the other hand, there was a rumor a long time ago in which Activision was apparently interested in the Switch because Call of Duty games on it could reach new audiences, such as the audience interested in Pokemon.
We'll see I guess. They might skip it for this year and instead release a game for next year when many more people have Switches. Especially since there was a leaked Amazon listing for PC/Xbox One/PS4 but no mention of Switch.
I definitely wouldn't buy it, but I never bought a Call of Duty game, even when I had a PS3 and Modern Warfare 2 came out. Do I want it on the system? 100% YES. This game, Destiny, Madden, FIFA, NBA 2K ... these MUST be on Switch to attract a general audience.
I couldn't care less about the games, but it would be good for the Switch.
Some links for you people to watch the Live stream.
https://www.twitch.tv/callofduty
@VR32F1END I'd love the Bioshock collection to come to Switch. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Considering it was made in Unreal and all the games ran on the PS3/360, I can't imagine any reason it couldn't come to the Switch from the technical side of things.
The completely obvious thing to do is port MW4 Remastered... Relatively cheap port with a lot of appeal on a handheld. Makes so much sense to test the market.
It doesnt matter what you think of COD, given its stature in gaming, we should all pray it makes it. This is the biggest selling game, year in and out.
@ACK
Yes!!! Brilliant idea!
@MarioPhD Exactly my point. Some posters need to get their eyes checked.
@MarcelRguez Reading is fundamental!
Knew it wouldn't be on Switch because I'm logical.
It's not coming to switch. And again the last cod game I purchased was black ops 2 for Wii U. And I'm ok with that being the last too.
I bought them for Wii U so to have them on Switch is a no brainer and would be a compliment to the Switch game library!! Bring it on!!
I would have been more interested in last year's game, I prefer sci-fi scenarios to older locales, although that seems to be a minority view based on last year's sales!
I'd be surprised if it comes to Switch though. The Xbox One version of COD usually has quite a lot of cut backs to get it to run, so I would imagine getting COD on the Switch in undocked mode would be tricky.
I don't think we'll get it somehow.
I know more 3rd parties are important and I would of course want to see this on Switch, but personally I can't think of a AAA third party franchise I'd be less interested in than Call of Duty.
Give me Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Overwatch, The Witcher, Grand Theft Auto and so on, but COD doesn't do anything for me.
(also give me Persona 5.....pretty pretty please?)
So no Switch version??
I strongly doubt it and I wouldn't buy it if it did, and I'm not buying it on PS4 either. More interested in Star Wars Battlefront II. They get points for going back to WWII though.
While I'd like to see the game come to Switch, it would inevitably flop if it did like most 3rd party games do on Nintendo platforms. Makes zero sense for Activision to release it on Switch.
@westman98 Right, Xbox One, PS4 and PC only as confirmed by the trailer.
Yep, no Switch version confirmed. This may not be a huge loss for many of us (personally I am not interested in Call of Duty and gritty FPS games so I could care less) BUT it is a huge blow towards not attracting the general crowd.
That being said, I feel Call of Duty has lost its previous luster in the casual gamer crowd. Battlefield seems to be the new occupant. But Nintendo really needs to make sure that at least the sports games like FIFA and NBA 2K come out next year again and Madden comes next year.
@Whitewatermoose
Source of this rumor?
Ew, no
@Whitewatermoose Isn't Beenox working on the rocky snowball known as Destiny?
I can't see it just from the technical end. Activision is pretty much done with PS3/360 games for their big franchises, and the switch is closer to them than xbox one and PS4. They would have to make significant sacrifices to gameplay and functionality in order to get it working on Switch. Now if they wanted to make a spinoff game with Switch specific features, that's totally up to them and I think it would be a good idea.
@BulkSlash I haven't ruled out a Switch release yet, as both companies are saving a lot of announcements for E3. But I just had to comment on your name. BulkSlash was one of my absolute favorite import Saturn games and I thought it a shame that it never saw a western release, as it showcased the system nicely and was a fun game to play!
@Whitewatermoose Wasn't that also the case with a CoD game that didn't come to Wii U? I may be wrong but I recall an article about it on Nintendo Life.
EDIT: I was right, Black Ops 3 had the same situation and that didn't come to Wii U.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/04/rumour_call_of_duty_black_ops_3_teased_for_nintendo_release
@Whitewatermoose who is the source?
Maybe, hard to tell really.
The Switch is a popular enough system that it could sell enough to make it worth while to put it on the system, but at the same time do they think the game would appeal to Nintendo fans? Nintendo fans seem to enjoy more Japanese style games, and don't seem to care about American games, especially shooters.
I think they will skip the Switch for this CoD game and wait and see if the Nintendo Switch becomes a big enough sale, so maybe the next CoD game after this might come to the system.
It's a bummer, I can get it on PS4 though.... a lot of Nintendo fans here calling the game trash and not worthy of Nintendo but these are one of those games that would keep mainstream appeal on the switch. Playing this with mobility would have been cool
It won;t be coming to Switch, but the Switch would only benefit if it did. More games is better than less games.
I haven't purchased a Call of Duty or Battlefield title in many years (probably dating back to the early PS3 era at least), and to be frank I really don't care if such "AAA" games come to Switch, at least from a personal standpoint. I realize they may be important to things like sales figures and are loved by millions of "mainstream" gamers, but I'm much more excited about the likes of Project Octopath Traveler, next year's (proper SRPG) Fire Emblem, and Super Mario Odyssey...games that are considered too "niche" or "kiddie" (seriously, how many kids have ever 100% completed most Mario games??? Those things can get HARD) by those who value kill counts and eye candy over cerebral content and basically anything different from what they're familiar with.
The worst thing that ever happened to videogames as a hobby was when they went "mainstream" and suddenly the focus shifted from risk-taking and originality to what made the most easy money (and could be milked via online to no end). This is why Nintendo has stuck around all these years despite all the predictions of their imminent demise: the market for their games is wildly different from the likes of Sony and Microsoft.
@KirbyTheVampire LOL, nono, that was a troll-response self-defense after I said I have no intention of buying it if it comes
@AtlanteanMan Interestingly those "mainstream" gamers that love AAA online games believe themselves to be the "hardcore gamers", while Nintendo's (handheld) consoles traditionally outsell either of the other individual platforms, thus is inherently more mainstream.
Perhaps it's not about "mainstream" and "hardcore" versus people that actually like video games and people that want to play movies?
No point in releasing this on switch, many wouldn't buy it, why hmm because it ain't a Ninty franchise with a fat ugly plumber in it. No wonder big 3rd party devs don't even glance Nintendo's way, many have tried and failed. Shame really
@NintySnesMan Things are different, since the Switch is an excellent on the go console.
So people might actually be more interested in picking up titles like these for the portability, maybe even double dipping by buying it on the PS4/XBOne/PC for main home play and Switch for on the go play and local multiplayer (if supported).
@Jeronan
I bought many 3rd party games on wii u, like Assassins Creed, cod, Mass Effect, zombie U etc, I would do same for switch but many wouldn't, it's always the same old story with most ppl that buy Ninty hardware, they are only interested Ninty franchises even though many say they will buy it, but lifetime sales show they never do. For this reason I can't blame 3rd party devs for not glancing ninty's way, they tried many times and failed. This poll gives a idea of this
@NEStalgia Ah I see, my bad.
@Whitewatermoose
Source for rumour?
@NintySnesMan There are plenty 3rd party titles that do well on Nintendo's hardware.
If you talk about FPS games in general, then yeah... they tend not to do so well on Nintendo's hardware, since the vast majority of those players are on PC and the remaining on XB/PS consoles.
If the only compromise on Switch was maybe a graphical drop, sure. It's great having console games on a portable.
@ReifuTD
Going back to a setting that has been done to death isn't going to be an improvement.
Oh, hey, they're doing D-Day. Like that hasn't been done enough already.
I don't think I will come to Switch or at least not in this announcement. However it would be a major win if Nintendo turned up at E3 and Bam here's COD World of War 2
Well, it's one of the big AAA titles that could come to Switch, just because these games end up on pretty much everything.
@ThanosReXXX Regarding the WWII setting, I said pretty much what you're saying in the Kotaku discussion of the game. It blows my mind that gamers react to this news with "yawn, WWII, didn't we already do that one?" Like, excuse me? We are talking about World War II here, not some little skirmish.
This was a war that dragged on for years, where the weapons in use saw massive changes between its beginning and its end. A war that eventually sucked in every country that had an army, fighting every conceivable kind of battle on multiple fronts in every kind of terrain. You literally had everything from people fighting hand to hand with bayonets and katanas, to carpet bombings and brigade-level marine invasions. Aerial combat, artillery, submarines vs. battleships, airborne assaults, mounted cavalry fighting tanks, extraction missions, jungle warfare, secret science fiction weapons and schemes, elite troops and untrained resistance fighters. WWII was INSANE. There's never been a war like it, and hopefully there never will be again.
But the scope for potential games is immense. I play a lot of boardgames, and a new WWII tabletop game gets announced on a daily basis. And no wargamer EVER said "ho hum, another WWII game, yawn." More like, "okay, which front? What year? What scale? Does it have good op-fire rules? Artillery? Logistics? Where do I preorder?!?"
Of course, Call of Duty is not the game that will take chances and bring a whole new experience to the WWII game scene. We're not going to be playing some revelatory new kind of game here. But even if it's the same squad-level infantry shooter it always has been, there is enough variety in WWII that Activision could be making a new WWII CoD game every year for the next century and never do the same battle twice. Compaining that WWII has "already been done" is like complaining that Mario Kart 9 is going to feature karts on a racetrack AGAIN.
Please stop being fanboy's people, If the new Call of Duty comes to the Nintendo Switch than that is a win win for everyone! FPS fans can get a great shooter on their own Nintendo switch, Plus this will improve casual support for the system which in case would drive more sales. If Call of Duty sales well on the Nintendo switch this will catch the eyes of many other third party developers, leading us in having more Games coming to our little favorite hybrid system.
I don't care if you like Call of Duty or not but we need any AAA third-party game that we can get!
i think the best purpose of the switch is for games made specifically for it. it has to be because nintendo made it that way instead of reaching for tech parity with the big two; it's still a bit frustrating that they didn't go with the more powerful and more power-efficient pascal. the best we can hope for is portablized last gen games like the modern warfare trilogy.
I'm not really into the WWII stuff - not saying "it's been done", just that I'm more interested in modern/futuristic tech. If it has to be a CoD game, I'd rather it be a sequel to Ghosts.
Although, I'd prefer a competitive shooter like Quake Champions. I love games like Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 Arena on my Dreamcast.
Even if it does come to the Switch the only appeal it would have for me is the portability factor, even though I would get it on PS4 since PS4 gets the map packs 30 days earlier. And because of that I would be playing it primarily on the PS4.
Who cares!? this is the lamest poo. i played all this world war 2 stuff ten years ago.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn.
You guys still remember Call of Duty 3 on Wii? The same thing is happening after 10 years...LOL.
I'm not big into fps or cod...but i would get this in a heartbeat if it were on switch. imagine going out to eat...finding a local wifi...and hammering out a couple online or campaign matches wherever you want. and if it had spit screen? sure...it woud be small screens...but...tabletop cod with friends anywhere? full console powered cod? thats gold!
@Highlar : That was the selling point for me, and the only CoD game that I've bought on consoles was Black Ops 2 on Wii U, and only because it was sealed and dirt cheap at only AU$8. I had no interest otherwise, and I only recall ever having played it twice (one for the single player campaign, until I got stuck in an area where I kept dying, and the second for asynchronous local multiplayer, which was great).
Tabletop multiplayer and the ability to take such a popular game with me anywhere is such a cool value proposition, and this would have been the first time that I would have bought a CoD game on day 1, but it seems that Activision isn't interested in our thirsty Switch dollars.
@Tsusasi I love BulkSlash, it's such an awesome Saturn game. The variety in the levels is really cool and being able to transform between robot and flying vehicle mode gives the player so many ways to approach the levels. It's a massively underrated gem!
Not much of a call of duty fan but it would be kinda interesting to see on the switch, if it's planing to be on the console.
Won't happen. Couldn't care less.
Lmao. Love how people actually believed that this game would come out on Switch. Did you people really wanted Call of Duty: Slideshow Edition? The Switch is way too underpowered to handle this game.
@kobashi100 That has already been kind of done in the Homefront games, although that was about Korean forces entering the US, and it's in today's world, so no WW2 scenario. Still pretty decent games, though, if you're into that genre.
For WW2, I would prefer sticking to the truth. I also played games like the rebooted Wolfenstein series, and although these certainly are enjoyable to some extent, all the fantasy stuff in them gets tired after a while. I find the real war stories of actual people to be WAY more inspiring and engaging.
@Captain_Gonru Both new, for less than 20 bucks a piece. But if you want to find them in the US, it would probably end up being used, and if that's the case, I can recommend Lukie Games. Great service, good quality of used items and games, and they also have a physical store you can go to: https://www.lukiegames.com
@Captain_Gonru Hm, seems their physical shop is gone, but still...
@JasmineDragon Couldn't have said it any better. Completely agreed, but then again, we already did...
@Yasume The Wii and the Wii U did just fine with a range of games like Call of Duty and Medal of Honor as well, so I don't see how a device that is more powerful than the Wii U wouldn't be able to run these games. Might be in a lower resolution and with less of all the shiny "ooh and aah" effects, but other than that, it'll run them just fine.
Maybe try and be constructive in your criticism for once instead of just nagging and whining for the sake of it?
@Captain_Gonru And here you go:
https://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-Ghosts-Nintendo-Wii-U/dp/B00E8A06DO/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_63_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=TRY7RFMZQBMR8Z9Y4B4N
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_productid=129121126&rt=nc&_sop=15&isRefine=true&LH_ItemCondition=1000
Still reasonably priced, in my opinion.
@sillygostly I don't know. I was watching a random group podcast on this same question last night. One of the guys on the podcast had this to say (paraphrasing of course):
"Take this as rumor for now...but I know someone inside who has told me that Activision IS using a developer...well known for being asked to take in titles and port tem to other systems (wouldn't say the name of the developer of course to protect his source)...to bring this game to Switch...it won't be announced with the others...but probaly later at E3...like how cod:ghosts was announced later for Wii U after the other consoles."
IF he is right, I'm wondering if it could be Treyarch, as the are the ones who ported most other CoD games (that I'm aware of) to Nintendo platforms...and did GREAT jobs at it. My personal favorite was Word at War on the Wii.
Well with Sony and Microsoft competing in a money throwing contest to see who can get the most exclusive third party content. I predict that one of those two consoles will have a timed exclusivity deal. I doubt it will come to the switch, but I don't think Activision is that stupid.
I doubt it, third-party companies think Nintendo fans don't like FPS games for some reason. (Despite ironically N64's "Goldeneye 007" helping popularize the genre on consoles. Before that, they were almost all practically PC-exclusives.)
If I had a dollar for every game I've seen available for every system, but the Nintendo one...
They made COD games for the DS so I'm willing to believe it's at least being considered.
Treyarch has always been Nintendo friendly and they're usually the ones to port the Call of Duty games to Nintendo systems regardless of who is developing the game at the time so there is some hope for this. Make it happen Treyarch. I remember playing World at War on Wii and that game made all my friends think differently about the Wii at the time. Would love for COD to return to a Nintendo system.
@Highlar http://n4g.com/news/2050672/is-beenox-developing-call-of-duty-for-the-switch
Is this what you heard?
@Ballzilla No, the guy who was passing on the info he had heard wouldn't say what publisher it was, to maintain his sources anonymity. I'll check that link out though!
This would be awesome! Splatoon is cute but I prefer some blood in my shooters.
I don't own a Switch, but I would get one just for COD. I don't have a PS4 yet, and I'd rather the portability of the Switch, because I work full time and raise a child so I don't have time to sit in front of the TV. I only really play online shooters and Splatoon doesn't tempt me, but COD or BF would. Graphic don't even really matter to me this generation either...PS3 games still hold up ok, I'm more interested in playing better games, not better looking games. If COD comes out im buying a Switch the moment it's announced. I know the game gets hate, and has a diverse fan base, but it's a top military shooter, and that's what I wanna play on the Switch.
@shaneoh Space and Robots has been done to death...even more these days, WW2 games or games set in "real life" wars not so much. I still say the last good COD was Black Ops 1.
@ClassSonicSatAm
Wow you're digging up an old comment. Yes there are fewer WW2 games these days, Middle-Easterners as targets are all the rage these days. We had CoD, MoH and BF WW2 games around the same period, that's not including all the smaller devs, it's still a tired setting. At least with aliens and robots it requires some creativity, they have to make something we likely haven't seen before. WW2, hey it's D-Day, have a thompson, an mp40, a luger, a springfield. YAWN.
@shaneoh Halo, Space COD, destiny..and Activision owns two of those. Thing is COD has been doing Sci fi wars since Black ops 2 when the Wii U was brand new, it's time to get back to reality, not just copy Star wars/Halo/Terminator it's nothing new.
@ClassSonicSatAm
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:World_War_II_first-person_shooters
They had 8 WW2 FPS between 2003-2008. ONE DEV. That list isn't even complete, it's missing MoH games and likely a bunch of others. As I said, with a scifi theme, they at least have to be creative. Going back to WW2 shows they lack that creativity.
" it's time to get back to reality, not just copy Star wars/Halo/Terminator it's nothing new."
So why do they have to go back to WW2? There are plenty of other wars that happened.
