Re: Talking Point: Switch's Blazing First Year Means Fewer Games In 2018 Shouldn't Be A Concern

bratzdoll

Having always been a handheld player, I still have a hard time paying home console prices for my games. So, personally, I don't have an issue with this drought right now -and there is a drought- because I'm very picky with my purchases anyway.

Pokemon betrayed me, and that stings. But I'm still getting Octopath Traveler, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Bayonetta, and Darkest Dungeon off the announced 2018 lineup. And I'm ok with that.

I’m still quite bothered by the lack of character interaction especially in a JRPG like this one but I am definitely giving the game a shot.

I have one question though. How necessary is it to have a main team with every single path action? If, for example, my main 4 are Tressa, Therion, Alfyn, and Primrose, am I missing much for skipping a path action? Are there workarounds?

@Spudworthy Like I said, I'm not bothered by the score. But an all-things-Nintendo website telling me how much better Mario is...forgive me for raising an eyebrow there. That last line in the review was particularly unnecessary, I'd probably not have commented at all were it not for it. So, in a way, maybe it was necessary?

For the record, I didn't claim non-Nintendo games like this one get underscored. I said it's Nintendo games that get a pass (as in, are overscored).

Looks worse on Switch but it's portable. I'm 99% sure I can c/p this for every multi-plat that comes to Switch and it'll always be true.

If playing handheld is not your thing, the Switch has no reason to be your system of choice for multi-plats. For people like me, portability is #1, so a Switch version is frankly our only option (unless Sony releases a Vita follow-up).

I think the game looks fine fwiw.

I'm more amused by the 'Mario Rules, Crash Drools' take of the review rather than the score itself.

"just as was the case back in the '90s, Crash isn't in quite the same league as Mario when it comes to playability, inventiveness and entertainment."...lol

@Megadeth if it's got Nintendo's name on it, it's guaranteed it'll get a pass. I'd add a point or two to that "+1".

Re: Capcom Could Release More Cloud-Based Games On Nintendo Switch

It's a viable option for games that otherwise couldn't be playable on Switch (see: FFVII remake). I'm all for more, current gen games myself.

But 1) this also sets a precedent that may extend beyond those titles. 2) Even if the inevitable Switch XL/Pro/Plus is THAT much more powerful, enough to handle these games and for the cloud system to be redundant, people will still complain that they are exclusive to the upgraded model.

I don't know what's the one correct solution that everyone's happy with here.

Re: Review: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

You’d think that the localization issue alone would knock a couple points off. Add performance issues to that and...yeah. At least the actual review told me what I needed to know.

@Galenmereth I’m honestly just as surprised. Nothing I’ve seen of Ys VIII gives me “must-buy RPG” that Metacritic would have me believe it is. Xenoblade was also brought up in the review and it looks like a different class of a game. I don’t get it.
