NIS America has officially announced three upcoming titles that are scheduled to land on Nintendo Switch in 2019: The Princess Guide, The Caligula Effect: Overdose, and RPG Maker MV.
Without further ado, here's all the info we have on each of the three titles so far including official game descriptions, feature lists, and trailers:
The Princess Guide
In a land torn by chaos and war, a new evil rises. Now, four princesses from four different kingdoms must learn how to lead their people to victory. Commence the Princess Knight training regimen! As an experienced knight, you will choose a princess to become your apprentice. Teach her the art of war, and push back the evil that threatens to take over the land! With your choices directly impacting the way your Princess Knight fights, The Princess Guide gives military training a whole new meaning!
Key Features:
- A Unique Tale Times Four! - Each Princess Knight has a unique story to tell, and your choice affects how the tale unfolds! Will you train the vengeful Veronica, the gluttonous Liliartie, the chivalrous Monomaria, or the dragon princess Alpana?
- Fast-Paced Strategic Battles - The battlefield can get intense! Issue orders to your princess directly on the battlefield, and watch them clash with the enemy forces! Their performance is directly affected by your tutelage!
- To Praise or To Scold? - Your princess’s growth depends on you! During conversations and battles, “Praise” or “Scold” your princess to enhance their abilities on the battlefield!
The Caligula Effect: Overdose
Mobius. An idyllic world that exists for the sake of letting people forget about the pain and problems of reality. In this world created by a sentient vocaloid program, μ (Mu), reality and fantasy has become blurred, allowing people to relive their high school years in bliss. Yet in this seemingly beautiful and perfect world, something is amiss. Escape from this false paradise with your fellow students and return to reality in The Caligula Effect: Overdose!
Key Features:
- An Overdose of New Features - The Caligula Effect: Overdose boasts enhanced visuals and gameplay! Explore new scenarios, endings, and the “Forbidden Musician Route” while escaping the virtual world of Mobius.
- The New Faces of Kishimai High - Play as the newly added female protagonist! Plus, meet two new members of the Go-Home Club, who each have their own new Ostinato Musician to face.
- Use the Imaginary Chain! - Turn-based battle meets exhilarating action in this refined JRPG battle system! Develop a flawless strategy after using the Imaginary Chain to predict what your enemies will do next!

Excited for RPG maker, I wonder if it will have keyboard support (via the dock, I assume)?
Either way should be easier to type out text than the 3DS.
RPG maker sounds cool.
Do any of these RPG maker games allow you import/make your own assets?
Just the title "The Caligula Effect" makes me think of a character trying to make a horse a priest.
I don't think I have the patience to create an RPG but I'll certainly be downloading the free player and playing other people's creations. Surely there has to be a limit to how much you can play without owning the game?
@HobbitGamer wait, did he not try to make his horse a consul/ senator ?
I got RPGmaker fes on the 3ds and really love it. So I'm definitely interested in MV.
These look pretty good. Does anyone know how many titles NISA has published on or has announced for Switch? It feels like they may be the most supportive third party, which is awesome since they hadn’t done much on Nintendo platforms before the Switch.
@OorWullie If RPG Maker is the same one as the PC then it isn't a game but editing software to make games. People have been sharing RPG Maker games online for free for over a decade.
Oh no.....RPG Maker.....my life is over......
Hype to take another shot at RPG Makering. I tried the 3DS version but adding text was not fun and I had to admit defeat.
Princess Guide looks cool, and I'm always down for RPG Maker... even though I got FES on 3DS, finished the tutorial dungeon of my first project, and never picked it up again because I'm a lazy b*stard.
Will get all of them
Nice!... Glad I held off on The Caligula Effect.
@ktej75 He did that, as well.
I never get to actually keep my money with all these good games coming out.
@Agramonte Same boat it's been on my radar for a while.
RPG Maker on consoles refused to evolve for over twenty years.
It was fun to try out Fes, but it was so limited I couldn't even port over my RPG Maker 2000 game.
Unless this one brings actual changes, no thanks.
Preordered all of them. Very excited. And yet, there are still several PS3, PS4, and PS Vita games NIS America could port to the Switch. The Witch and the Hundred Knight, Cladun Returns, The Silver Case, Danganronpa, etc.
Gimme a Cladun Maker.
RPG Maker is dope, I've had my fun with all of them, even the limited console releases. I will be getting it for sure.
Does almost everything coming out of Japan have to look the same?
I will be picking up all 3 of these, i'm super excited for RPG Maker especially.
@Crono1973 I imagine the Japanese are asking the same thing about Western games. Fallout, Days Gone, Last of Us, Dying Light, The Division.......wave after wave of realistic, cinematic, urban decay and wasteland......they all pretty much look the same
Nice definitely interested in all of these games. Especially rpg maker
This isn't the first time I've seen a vocaloid-inspired white-haired girl as the villain.
@NEStalgia I agree, western games look samey too. Seriously though, who isn't burned out on the anime look?
Yes, please X 3
@Crono1973 I'm not specifically a fan of anime or the anime look myself, and it does all feel self-derivative. But then look at Western animation and even a lot of Nintendo animation....it's all derivative of Disney and/or Pixar animation these days.
@Crono1973 I’m not burned out. Bring it all over here. My preferred look.
What kind of visuals are you looking for exactly? Afraid this is just what Japanese games look like.
It might be time for me to finally get an RPG Maker game.
@Dysnomia I don't know what I want, I just know what I don't want because I am sick of the same look.
Nice, i hoped we would get the princess training game .
Wait...MV? Whoa. I got the 3ds RPG maker and was so bummed out by the limited tools. I'll have to watch for this one.
Caligula Effect looks the most promising of the bunch for me. We love a female protagonist option!
I already have RPG Maker on PC, and I really like it, despite trying the 3ds one and being frustrated with the clunky text typing. I guess RPG Maker falls into the pile of PC games I already own but want to buy again on Switch, like Undertale and Rivals Of Aether.
3 times the crap
@FlimFlam Around 15 titles and yes they're the most supportive third party as of now.
MV is where it's at
MV was leaked during E3. (thanks Amazon!) so it was expected to be announced soon or later.
didn't expect that princess game to be announced though.
patiently waits for Liar Princess and the Blind Prince
Caligula Effect looks kind of cool, but I'll wait for more information. RPG Maker is a definite, I just hope it's a little more fleshed out than FES on the 3DS.
I might as well give NIS joint access to my bank account at this point.
@Crono1973 I am also not burned out by anime look.
Main reason for that is that, to me there is no single "anime look" at all.
The styles are to diverse to be called that, in my opinion.
Or at least more diverse than most than what we got in the west.
@AxeltheBuizel I also had RPG Maker VX Ace (Got it in Humble bundle) and made like a 10 hour game, I really put in so much work to see my game come to life, It actually helped me appreciate the time taken in making RPGs . So I am happy to see it coming to Switch, I will Get his day one.
