Re: Is 'Switch Tax' A Real Concern, Or Just A Myth?

@JasmineDragon I live in Europe so I was checking Amazon UK (it's £8 more expensive on Switch) and some domestic stores here (the price tag is 5€ heavier), which prompted my comment. I'm glad that's not the case over there!

I'd like to think these are exceptions, not the rule, but it's a bummer when I see it on most games I'm interested in [Darkest Dungeon (edit: Banner Saga Trilogy too) is another one].

@EightBitMan “no Metroid Prime 4 is gonna help this console” is one thing I can agree with you. It feels like a bubble of Nintendo fanboys that overhype that title as a system seller, the same people who already have a Switch.

However, I disagree that the Switch needs much help in the first place; I view it primarily as a portable machine that plays home console titles VS a main home console system where everything is available. Sometimes I do want to blame Nintendo for the Switch’s limitations but then I remember that was the best they could do with hardware to keep the price point accessible. An upgraded model should rectify its shortcomings once the technology for it gets cheap enough to produce it (and it still won’t be as powerful as a Microsoft/Sony console, it is a handheld system). If Nintendo titles aren’t your thing (they’re not mine either, I’m not judging) and if you exclusively play in docked mode, the Switch is not for you right now and probably never will be.

@JoakimZ I’ve only played Persona Q but I’ve read plenty of reviews for the games, so you can take or leave this comment. Most reviews claim that Untold 2 and IV are the best places to start with the series, with the former improving on Untold 1 in every way, and the latter being more welcoming to beginners by breaking the dungeon into sections instead of one long dungeon to slog through like V returned to. Again, can’t confirm myself, but yeah, Untold 2 and IV are the most recommended.

@Silly_G Jigglypuff (or Meowth, let's be honest) would have made so much sense as the second Let's Go mascot; just off the anime it's the most memorable Gen 1 mon besides Pikachu and the 3 starters, enough to also completely eclipse its evolution (like Pikachu). The no-evolution rule is why I'm a bit confused over Eevee.

Oh, and Magikarp should definitely be the contender for a potential 3rd version.

Co-signing the "Tomodachi Life was the surprise here" comments.

Based on overall impressions, I'd say Fire Emblem Awakening and Shin Megami Tensei IV are the absolute must-haves I'd recommend to fellow 3DS owners, I keep going back to them over and over. I'd add Pokemon ORAS as the token 3DS Pokemon to finish off my top 3.

Based on total play time, my top 10 is:
1. Pokemon Omega Ruby
2. Fire Emblem Awakening
3. Persona Q
4. Shin Megami Tensei IV
5. Fire Emblem Fates (PSA: only Conquest is worth it)
6. Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse
7. Pokemon Sun
8. Pokemon X (half the play time of Sun. Favorite gen design-wise, but god I disliked everything else)
9. Xenoblade Chronicles 3D (Not even close to finishing it, it should rise a lot)
10. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward

Would probably enjoy but can't be bothered to buy on 3DS/give me a remastered Switch port or sequel:
1.Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology
2.Fire Emblem Echoes
3.Devil Survivor Overclocked/Record Breaker

We still think Dragon Quest XI is coming this year? Loving the optimism!

Off the remaining titles for 2018, Valkyria Chronicles 1 & 4 are on top of my list. Then, I'm also considering Tales Of Vesperia, The Banner Saga Trilogy, and Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

I can't shake this feeling that Xenoblade X and Tokyo Mirage Sessions are getting ported over soon; they're the last WiiU games missing besides 3D World. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, don't know. I'd go ahead and add Persona Q2 to the list while at it, I highly doubt that'll be a 3DS exclusive at this point, if it stays on the system that is; almost August and we still know nothing about it.

Regardless, next year is where it's at. Off the confirmed games, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Daemon X Machina, and Steins;Gate Elite alone have already topped my 2018 game list.
