If all these ports weren't all sold at full price vs the heavily discounted ones on every other platform, then I doubt there would be much to complain about.
I think that what the article said is true though, that games like Payday 2 have a chance to thrive on the platform due to lack of competition.
This game (and Pokemon) is why I'm buying the Switch over any other console. Looks like my purchase can wait at least another year if this announcement is anything to go by, perhaps I was a fool to expect an earlier release.
SMT IV (and Apocalypse) is my favorite 3DS game, I 100% believe this will be worth the wait (for anyone on the fence about it).
On a different note, I wasn't expecting the direction this comment section took. As someone who never bought a WiiU and still never plans to, I'm ok with any port if only for the portable factor. Plus, it's not like other consoles didn't get tons of ports in their earlier years.
I’m aware I’m on a Nintendo website so some things are to be expected and I let slide but honestly... “perhaps the whole world isn’t quite 4K ready yet” (among other lines on PS4/Xbox) is not something that would have even made the 1st draft were the Switch more powerful. Can’t wait for your take on graphics when NS gets the inevitable buffed up revision down the line.
On another note, I’m glad Ultra Sun/Moon underperformed, hopefully it’s extra incentive not to halfass the Switch game.
Besides Persona and Nier Automata, FF XV/XII/VII are quite frankly the only games I’ll be missing on Switch, so if somehow they find a way on the system I’ll be over the moon. Japan even more so...just saying. I want Switch to become the ultimate JRPG machine of this gen and that’s only possible with SE.
If, however, they have plans for that Pocket edition garbage, well...
@IronMan28 Nintendo can come out and say “Let the 3DS die, Switch is our portable system now” and articles/comments will still be about how it “outsold the WiiU!!!”... I don’t see NL accepting it unless a portable-only ver. is released.
Considering it will be 1.5 generations behind tech-wise at that point, I expect a marketing shift from “home console you can take on the go” to “portable that can play home console games”, multiple iterations a la 3DS, and last gen ports (like Nintendo’s doing with the WiiU catalogue) for this to happen. It won’t be cutting it as a home console first in its current state once ps5/new Xbox roll out -unless users are interested exclusively in Nintendo games-
The "censorship!!1!!1" crowd is just what we needed... thanks, Xenoblade 2!
Maybe by some miracle we'll get a decent otome game too if this proves successful (or better yet, Coming Out On Top -let me dream-) so w/e, do your thing cat girls.
The one announced 3DS game I’m looking forward to this year is Persona Q2.
That said, I could see a Diamond/Pearl remake being the 3DS’s swan song this holiday season if Pokémon Switch is in fact planned for 2019 -with expectations being on BOTW level, I kinda hope it is-, that remake has been anticipated for a while now.
And while everything stated is true, 3DS dies the moment a handheld-only Switch is announced (if that were to happen, it would be with Pokémon).
which is to say, here's another article starting off with Wii U comparisons and here's another comment bringing up that the Switch is also tied with Nintendo's portable line.
I expect another Direct soon cause things aren't exactly exciting for the 1st half of the year just yet. More solid single player experiences is what I'm looking for, personally, I'm not concerned with online.
I wish we would all collectively acknowledge that the Switch is also the 3DS successor -and comparisons to it WILL be made- but I see some are still upset at the thought...
I hope we change our tune when new Pokémon doubles the hardware sales.
Asking for and addressing feedback is always a good thing. This game has a unique look and positive reception so far (from the demo), it is in my shortlist of switch games to get. And if that means more incentive to bring the full FFXV over to the system, all the better.
That seems like a LOT of of money to invest in just for a console... Sure Microsoft can afford it overall, but just for the Xbox team? This seems highly unlikely. But what is the point of paying up 35 billion if you’re not gonna make most games exclusives to your console? And if that was the case, sure they would sell more hardware but software sales would now see a drastic cut. Is it really worth it? I ...just don’t see it happening.
Do I hope it happens though? Of course. Maybe evil aka EA will be defeated bc this was a terrible decision for everyone involved. Or maybe there’s a chance MS can successfully address the infamous criticisms EA games always face to get some good will back. Maybe we would get another good Dragon Age game out of this. Who knows.
It was the one eshop-only game (besides the upcoming Fe) that I was looking into buying. Since I always go physical when possible, I'm quite pleased with this announcement.
Out of all the games skipping the Switch, I feel like this ~hurt~ the most. It's a system-seller, in Japan at least.
I somewhat get it yet I don't see why it couldn't come to the Switch down the line (in 2018) or why the XX has yet to be localized, if that ever happens.
However great the numbers may be, I assume they'll be even more impressive once the (ex-)handheld game lineup gets to the system.
In the Switch's 1st year, Nintendo focused on its big home console game series, which is fine and all but doesn't mean too much to what I assume is millions of 3DS users -like myself- looking to upgrade. Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem etc is what (part of) this market is waiting on and, personally speaking, I'm not in a huge hurry to make the switch until those games start rolling out. Plus, it's very expensive for a portable+ system (which it'll be <for me>) so that's another reason I don't mind waiting so far.
My point being, a comparison to the Wii U is always made in these articles but what's neglected is that the Switch is for all intents and purposes the 3DS successor as well; it has a lot more to live up to (which I expect it will).

Re: Rumour: Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy Might Be Spinning Its Way Onto Switch
Nintendo fans do love them some mascot platformers, so Crash (Jak and Ratchet too) would be a great fit for the Switch.
I'd pick the racing games over the trilogy, myself, but this could be a start.
Re: Rumour: Call Of Duty 2018 Could Be Black Ops 4, And It Might Be Headed To Switch
I don't get the appeal, personally, but a lot of people buy a console just for COD and sports games so there's certainly demand for it.
