@WiltonRoots - The TV in my fourth bathroom is bigger than most people’s apartments, and it’s only my eighth best TV. Not sure if I’ve mentioned this. I’m hoping for the same, and also 45 minutes on new, retro controllers only available via NSO.
Just as I predicted many decades ago on the elementary school playground. We made this happen gang. We voted with our wallets, and they finally listened.
I don’t know why greedy Nitneendo didn’t just release every single game for the entire generation for free at launch like the other companies do. They’ve really lost their way. If Team Cherry can do it, why doesn’t Ninbingo??? Greed. Dev kits. Game key card slots. Corporate profiteering. Latency. I have 12 TVs, I guess Nitenbinbo doesn’t want my money. Preorders cancelled.
I played five minutes of the demo and immediately knew this was as good as I was hoping it would be. Agreed that it has a painterly, Muramasa aesthetic. Beautiful game, and I can’t wait to give it my full attention soon. Also, this was an exceptional review, really enjoyed reading this. Thanks Tom!
@DennyCrane - Well, that’s great news then! I missed that video, I’ll have to find it on YT. I hope it leads to new light gun games as well as ports and remakes of the old games, both console and arcade cabinets. I’ll play them all.
@DennyCrane - I’m not sure true light guns will ever return as they only work with CRT monitors. I can’t even play them on my old consoles because my CRT has a flat screen and the accuracy is awful. They need an outside curved screen to work properly. The sensor bar on the Wii and WiiU worked okay, but nowhere near as good as actual light guns. Unless some new light technology is achieved, they might just be a relic of the past.
Had an opportunity to buy one lightly used, in the box with a handful of games at a very reasonable price many years ago, but I passed on it as I was purchasing a home stereo and speakers from the same seller that day and was already spending more than I should have at the time. I wouldn’t say I regret it, I just think about it all the time in a mournful, wistful kind of way.
Looks like it was only running 30 fps, and even then; it was dipping when the action picked up. I’ll hold off on this until Digital Foundry tells me what to do.
When a game gets delisted, a part of your Switch melts, and a team of nerd assassins show up at your place to remove the key card from the internal key ring. This is why I buy two physical copies of everything and keep one copy in my stomach. I’ll be playing John Wick Hex in 40 years if I ever decide to barf it up and play it, which I won’t.
@roy130390 - What’s up ole friend. I’m certain future societies will look back on the social media era of humanity in the same crazy way we view a time when people ate from lead plates & drank from lead cups. That ***** makes people crazy.
I’m shocked to find out that people on social media were quick to jump to conclusions and be loud wrong without apologizing. It’s almost as if social media has a negative effect on reasonable people’s lives and only exists to give voice to those who should remain voiceless.
Looks incredible, when Arc is good; they’re great. I’ll definitely pre order for DD Dodge Ball. Great timing too, as I might just be done obsessing over Shinobi when this releases. The Switch has so many great beat em ups, it’s truly been a joy. No need to limit genre entries just because some great titles already exist. Play them all!
I’m only getting these if they allow me to make a mix of games for my wife which express my love for her in ways I’m not capable of expressing on my own. Now That’s What I Call Love, Vol. 36.
Vinylally, CD cases for my Switch cassettes. I will break the hinges immediately. Perhaps I’ll wait until 8 Track Do offers something similar, they make optical, high quality products.
Fantastic. Give me eight more years of upgraded Switch - the greatest Nintendo generation - with more third party support, better online, GC, open world Kart, backward compatibility, local multiplayer game share, performance upgrade, and lots of surprises in store. The price is a little crazy, but at least it’s finally significantly cheaper to buy digital.
My uncle works on his development team, and he told me this is a reference to Ho Hos, the Hostess brand snack cakes. Ho Hos -> Twinkees -> ANGEL food cake. So Kid Icarus confirmed then.
@Sonicka - Totally understandable given all the subs available on our devices, I just wanted to be sure you weren’t playing a knockoff. While it’s not for everyone, I’m sure there’s a wiki or strategy guide available if you want to understand it better. Without getting too deep into the weeds; an understanding of the hierarchy of poker hands helps, and the Joker cards are the most critical strategy element. You need a good hand of Jokers to succeed, especially any Joker that adds to or multiplies the multiplier.
@Sonicka - Pretty sure Balatro is not on any version of Netflix. You may have tried a clone. There’s a mobile version on Apple Arcade, but I’ve read it’s not as good as the standard version.
I really do appreciate this, it’s been bothering me. I probably won’t stop pronouncing it wrong, but it’s good to have clarity on how to pronounce it properly. My brain was adding an extra “o” and I thought it was Balatoro for the longest time, so I have a somewhat tortured history with its pronunciation, full of twists and turns. Great game, weird name.
Just as PeaPiePoPo and I predicted. Duck Hunt 2 incoming along with Punch Out, FZero, Metroid, Goomba Petting Zoo Tycoon and Pikmin Pressure Washing Sim.
Oof, I’m a fan of Art, but this looks rough. Hopefully it’s more polished when it’s ready to launch.
@OldManHermit - The Terrifier franchise is essentially very, very dark comedy sort of in the Friday the 13th vein. Art the Clown is delightful too. It’s extremely gory, but not torture porn like the Roth films. Give them a shot when you’re in the mood for something campy. Do not skip the first movie, it’s the best one in my opinion, and the second movie picks up right after the events of the first one.
I picked this up a few weeks ago, and I’ve been totally hooked ever since. I was lucky to assemble a game breaking array of jokers on my second playing session and win. I’ve been close a few times since, but haven’t been able to clear the final boss ante. Just an incredibly smart, fun and addictive game.
Great, I guess I’ll just scrap the game I’ve been working on, Incontinence Alarm: Spooky Filmmaker Simulation for Many Viral Applauses. I guess nobody is allowed to have someone else’s good idea anymore.
Good list, I’d have SMB2 and NSMB Wii top 10 and Wonder top three, but it’s just personal preference with a dash of nostalgia when ranking a long running series comprised almost entirely of excellent games.
I really want Carmen Sandiego, but I’m holding out for the Mister Rogers x Sesame Street beat em up so I can finally thrash Lady Elaine Fairchilde and Elmo. It’ll be a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Not sure why there’d be any age limit on learning poker hands. Yahtzee is a family game, and it’s basically poker with dice. I used to wager on just about anything as a kid; cards, pool, sports, video games, feats of strength and endurance. It was fun. Knowledge of poker hands doesn’t make you depraved.
@Smithicus @ibookboyuk - I thought a little bit more about it and I guess I did know some younger Boomers who were playing the early shooters, one of whom helped me dial in my old Acer to run DOOM & Duke. Being older than me, they had the expendable income to have nice computer rigs and hosted LAN parties. I guess “Boomer” just makes me think of my older Boomer parents who would be furious when they caught me playing Duke at 2:00 AM!
Boomer shooter does sound cool, and it rolls off the tongue better than Gen X Shooter. Maybe Slacker Shooter?
Seems like these should be called Gen X Shooters, as it was our Boomer parents yelling at us for playing these bloody FPSs on the family PC when they first came around, but Boomer Shooter does have a better ring to it.
Big news for billionaire bio hackers, you can cheat death for a few more screens. Just need to figure out how to live in a DK emulation, advance your frames and waggle your joystick at an unbelievable rate.
@WiltonRoots - Dungarees, puffy white gloves, plumbing services… now they’re offering go karts & vacuum cleaners. This has gone too far, put the dogs on them Nintendo.
@WiltonRoots - Ah, they’re branching out since the last time I was there. If they start selling wooden barrels & red neckties, Nintendo will need to revisit this lawsuit.
I was hoping it would release today, but my official prediction is tomorrow. This is based on everything I know about Nintendo and the 8-Bit Do production cycle.
Looks great. I think the Switch was the best hardware Nintendo has ever produced, so I’m happy to spend another generation with a bigger, better version.
