Re: Despite The Recent Bankruptcy and Layoffs, Retailer Toys 'R' Us Might Be Making A Comeback

bimmy-lee

@JasmineDragon - I’ve been by the Times Square store a few times and was blown away that a TRU could actually be nice. As a parent, I have an extra deep dislike for BRU. It was predatory. We had to buy five baby swings before we ended up with an acceptably broken model, and on swing three, I purchased the same broken swing I returned the first time. I know it to be true because the bag of hardware was still sealed with the blue painter’s tape I used to reseal it when I returned it. Nobody there even remotely cared. During that stretch of returns, I was there twice in five days, and the same pallet of stock was sitting in the middle of the swing aisle both times. There was an employee there that I’m convinced was tweeking on meth every time I saw her. Maybe I’m a bad person (I probably am), but I thought of her when I first heard they were closing, and I was glad. Since then, we’ve been able to circumvent BRU, but until we figured out alternatives; I always felt like such a rube giving them my money. Good riddance, and I honestly hope this resurgence doesn’t work out. The buying public will be better off, even if Bezos is the alternative. Not great, but better than the worst.

Re: Nintendo Adding Three More Games To Switch Online NES Library Next Week

@NEStalgia @WiltonRoots - I was being sarcastic, I don’t hug my kids. It’ll make them soft. I’m glad I wasn’t having a sip when I read your comments. Would have been a big mess. I’m just gonna enjoy these NES games again while all these freedom fighters (c. WiltonRoots) force Nintendo to make my online service better with all their complaints about something most of them haven’t experienced.

@Ooyah - Glad to hear you’re still kicking fate’s backside. Keep surviving and flinging Isaac tears. He’s counting on you. Just one more run (and then one more after that... and then another). No complaints here, thanks. It’s my favorite time of year. Really enjoying this cool fall weather. We experience extreme summer and winter weather, so the short breaks in between are very welcome. I wish you continued survival and laughter.

Re: Soapbox: Why Do We Want More Games When We've Already Got Too Many?

bimmy-lee

Was just thinking the other day that I’ve spent equal time scouring the new releases, coming soon, and great deals sections of the eShop as I’ve spent actually playing games since I got my Switch. I’ve never been like this before. I usually play a handful of great games per generation, and I already have more than that sitting on my Switch waiting to be played. Something about this machine (and all the great arcade ports) that has re wired my process. It’s amazing and frustrating at the same time.

@Heavyarms55 - Glad to hear some like it more than the reviewer, it looks interesting. However, the Little Dragon’s Cafe review would like to speak with you about the worst review ever published on this site.
Edit - Haven’t played the game, so I’m not necessarily disagreeing with the review, just the written words.

Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate Switch Bundle Pre-Orders Now Live With Mario And Link GameCube Controllers

@Tyranexx - The battery was sooo bad. I rarely even tried to play without the charger. The moment I got comfortable, that stupid red light would come on. I played the entire generation plus another year after Switch released solely on the gamepad with the stock battery. Pretty sure I deserve some kind of award for stubbornness. Hope you find a nice deal when you do get your Switch.

@Tyranexx - Ha, and I just realized after reading your comment that those aren’t dollar signs. Those beat the US bundle by a mile. I guess Nintendo just knows we’re buying regardless of a special offer. I’m sure they’ll have a worthwhile bundle at some point. Just in my experience, I was able to buy more games when I got my Switch by not spending on a pro controller. I’ve actually really enjoyed the joy con in the grip (I mostly play docked), and the directional buttons on the left haven’t bothered me a bit. I actually kind of like them.

@Tyranexx - I also think the design is nice, but regardless of that; $40 over standard cost with a game, GC controller (not a major thing for me, but still nice), a carrying case, and the steelbook is a really nice package. $20 off the retail price of Smash, assuming you would purchase it anyways, is kind of worth it alone if you’ve been planning to get a Switch, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

Re: NES Game Library On Nintendo Switch Is A Single Software Download

bimmy-lee

@WiltonRoots - Yep, the DK NES port seems so slow and hard, and it was already difficult in its arcade state. Weirdly, Nintendo didn’t do a great job porting their own arcade titles early on. Similarly, I never liked their early sports titles like Tennis or Hockey. There are much better sports games via third parties from that era in my opinion. There’s some great stuff up already though, and some great stuff coming. Super Dodge Ball is an all timer for me. That one was in those old Nintendo Play 10 cabinets. Have fun man. Pure speculation, but I think they might add new systems quarterly while still updating the older catalogues.

@WiltonRoots - Man, I meant to reply all week and continuously forgot. Not like it’s that important, but I’m not sure how I’d receive NES games these days if I hadn’t played them so hard as a kid. Hope you’re enjoying them so far. I’ve always liked Nintendo, but the MegaDrive/Genesis is probably my favorite console ever. I don’t think mine has been boxed up longer than a few months since I got it new.

Re: STAY - An Intriguing Concept That Might Just Outstay Its Welcome

bimmy-lee

@Donutman - Oof, that’s a scary one. I sent my WiiU tablet flying that same way a few times. So far, I’ve only dropped Joy Con due to falling asleep. I have a huge play time on BOTW on WiiU, but 20-30 hours of it is Link doing idle animations while weather fronts roll through. My young self would never believe this.

@jhewitt3476 - OOT was still my obsession in life when MM came out, and the clock system made me physically ill. I can’t even think about playing that game.

Re: STAY - An Intriguing Concept That Might Just Outstay Its Welcome

bimmy-lee

This sounds really interesting, but it doesn’t quite fit my schedule. It sounds like, if I can clear a chapter in a sitting, then nothing is really lost if I can’t play again for a few days and have to revert to the last save because Quinn went stir crazy and devolved into a monkey.

@NintendoFan4Lyf - I have a very similar play schedule with the added absurdity that it’s now possible for me to fall stone cold asleep playing games, sometimes even sitting straight up in a chair. I grow old, I grow old, I shall wear my trousers rolled.

Re: NES Game Library On Nintendo Switch Is A Single Software Download

@WiltonRoots - How else is Nintendo going to change unless we complain all over the place, all the time?!? Speaking of which, Glen Fox just posted a positive piece about the online service, and the comment section is already an apocalypse.

To be totally honest, DD on NES is bad. It’s super slow, flickers, and it’s washed out like you said. But I played it to death back then, and still love it. River City Ransom is the gem of the first 20 titles for me, but there are a handful of good games in there.

Re: NES Game Library On Nintendo Switch Is A Single Software Download

bimmy-lee

@WiltonRoots - No doubt. Everyone will eventually crumble as they add systems. For me, $20 well spent already. All other games from this point forward are added value. I launched two player online last night just to see how it works, and realized it’s based on my friend list. You’re my only Switch friend, and I was a little surprised to see you weren’t on at 4:00 am your time for a quick game of Double Dragon.

Re: NES Game Library On Nintendo Switch Is A Single Software Download

Had a blast last night playing a bunch of games I haven’t touched in 25+ years. I’m going to enjoy this service. Curious if anyone else played SMB and thought the colors looked a bit dark? I felt that way, but I admit that it’s been a really long time since I’ve played an actual NES cart or rom of the game. I hope we eventually get more border options and control over the display.
