Re: Hardware Classics: Sega Mega Drive

@Captain_EO - I do have a copy; case, instruction book, and all. It’s my original copy. Got it from my grandma as a Christmas gift when I was young. I didn’t realize it’s getting a bit scarce until recently. It’s a really fun game. If I had two copies, I’d send one to you to play with your son.

I’ve never seen the arcade cabinet, and I go out of my way for an arcade. It’s actually kind of a bucket list cabinet for me to find and play. It looks so different from the MD/Genesis port, and it’s a very pleasing cabinet aesthetically. My daughter took to MJ at a really early age, she’s been a fan for years now, and Moonwalker is blowing her mind.

@flapjack-ashley - That was a nice virtual aquarium game, I almost always ended my gaming sessions on Wii by feeding my fish. Had all the aquariums set up as different marine environments. I hope this one is good, the offering on WiiU was pretty miserable.

@Mr_Pepperami - Quadruple miracle, given IVF exists and worked for you. So happy for you. Makes me feel guilty for thinking I just didn’t want to have kids. I think part of that was subconsciously thinking maybe we couldn’t have them given we never did for so long with only minimal effort to not conceive. But as you said, you never know. The biggest gift fatherhood has given me (other than lifting the lid off an unknown, unending well of love and patience) is peace with change. Who am I to worry now that fate has thrown me an epic curveball and it turned out to add dimension to my life I couldn’t see prior? Ha, hey @Cupey, sorry we’re creeping on this thread. I thought it was dead. I’m with you on the Capcom bundle, and I want to get Dust for sure.

@Mr_Pepperami - Thank you, same sentiments to you. Your child is a miracle within a miracle then. My only social media is IG. I have a link in my profile page. I just haven’t been able to join twitter yet, but if I do, I’ll look you up. I kind of feel like we share mostly beauty with pictures, and often too many of our flaws with words. Or maybe that’s just what I do!

@Mr_Pepperami - Just want to say I really enjoyed talking life and movies with you today. Sorry to post here, but I’ve realized how much I posted on the Carpenter article today and feel a tad bit self conscious about it. It was such a confluence of things I enjoy, my head was spinning. I wish we could PM, but this is the next best thing. I’ve had a very similar experience with fatherhood, and it’s transformed my life to the point that I often wonder what I was doing before having kids, and why I thought it was worthwhile. I think I’ve seen you post that you have/have had health problems. I hope you’re well, or living the closest to well that you can. My best to you and your family.

@MeloMan - Goosebumps thinking of Hogan calling out his name. So many great segments between those two on Piper’s Pit. He and Heenan carried the buildup to WMIII and the slam at the Silverdome. I kind of feel like his promos are more timeless than The Rock’s, taking nothing away from Rocky. He was nasty too. He wasn’t a great wrestler, but he was all headlocks, punches, snake eyes and chokes. He wasn’t the chicken ish heel of the time. He was psychotic and scary. Even if he was smaller than your favorite wrestler, it was not a given because every time they thought they had the answers, Hot Rod changed the questions. Yes sir.

@MeloMan - “Oooh ya, fella” one of many gone too soon. He and Orndorff are two of the first heels I remember hating. I was a little Hulkamaniac brother. Shame I didn’t realize his greatness until he was well past his prime. I still always had to stand up and mark out when the old drums and reels would hit for his yearly appearances on Raw. RIP to one of the greats.

Re: Random: Hollywood Legend John Carpenter Doesn't Think Much Of Nintendo Labo

@Mr_Pepperami - Oh man, forgot about her religious character! She was the scariest thing in that movie. Pure crazy eyes. The Mist handled that moral conundrum as well as any horror I’ve ever seen. It’s a theme I love in zombie/apocalypse movies, but usually the characters are such tropes, it’s hard to get into it. They’re either pure evil, or too white knight/Rick Grimes-ey making choices in the name of morality that none of us would make in that situation. I get so freaked out when people are stuck in caves and/or lost underground, that I find myself holding my breath, which tells me I’m watching something at least decent.

Re: Random: Hollywood Legend John Carpenter Doesn't Think Much Of Nintendo Labo

bimmy-lee

@Mr_Pepperami - Still haven’t seen Hereditary, or Get Out. I enjoy Toni Collette though, and it’s one I mean to see. The Descent is probably when I realized I was scared of getting lost in a cave. That was scarier than the mutants/devolved. The sequel was crap. Andre Braugher’s character in The Mist was one of the most hatable characters in recent memory. Really pushed the movie along when they weren’t under siege by terrifying creatures of unusual size.

Edit - I was the night feeder too, sends shivers down my spine. Never been so sleep deprived. That could make a decent horror movie. A child with insatiable night hunger.

Re: Random: Hollywood Legend John Carpenter Doesn't Think Much Of Nintendo Labo

bimmy-lee

@Mr_Pepperami - We’ve only just begun, but I could go on forever. I could cry right now thinking about how fast fatherhood has already flown by. The Mist is fantastic, I’ve seen that one a couple times. I probably won’t see this one until this winter as The Force Awakens was the last movie I saw in theater. I should be more picky with horror movies, but I always get suckered into a bad one on Netflix. I was pleasantly surprised by As Above, So Below a few weekends ago. Getting stuck/lost underground is something that still terrifies me. The last supernatural theme that scared me was It Follows. To tie it back to Carpenter/Michael Meyers, a slow, unstoppable stalking thing is still really scary if done right. Take care!

Re: Random: Hollywood Legend John Carpenter Doesn't Think Much Of Nintendo Labo

@Mr_Pepperami - Good for you! My friend’s three kids are all 10 and over and he claims he’s basically a “retired” dad at this point. He says the only one left that still wants to spend time with him is the 10 year old, and the teenagers only want money and occasional advice (that they don’t follow). Enjoy the Halloween reboot/retcon/reimagine when you get a chance to see it.

Re: Random: Hollywood Legend John Carpenter Doesn't Think Much Of Nintendo Labo

bimmy-lee

@RevengeFan @Mr_Pepperami - I didn’t realize. Weird. I guess it’s a reboot of sorts then, except not rebooting all the material. I thought Carpenter was not involved in Resurrection, so I didn’t consider it canon to the series.

Edit - Danny McBride?!? Wow. Also didn’t realize this. I’m out of touch with things I like because of young kids.

Re: Random: Hollywood Legend John Carpenter Doesn't Think Much Of Nintendo Labo

bimmy-lee

@Mr_Pepperami - The new one looks so good, really excited to see it. I’m curious how they’ll handle the ending of H20 given that Michael has always been ambiguously “human” and that movie ended in such a way that it’s clearly impossible for a human to survive such a thing. I believe H20 was the last Halloween movie that Carpenter was involved in making, but all the previous Halloween movies ended in such a way that Michael was either still out there, or his injuries were possible to recover from with suspended disbelief.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Has Stumbled With Switch Online, But It Can Learn From Its Mistakes

If you get a kick out of adults shedding tears on the internet, NSO has been a godsend. It’s a win/win situation really. If you enjoy the service, you’re in now and it only gets more valuable as games release. If you don’t enjoy the service, you can use it to justify your piracy. Now if you’ll excuse me, there’s a dead horse out front and I’m about to beat the daylights out of it.

Re: Kunio-kun: The World Classic Collection Adds Double Dragon Trilogy

bimmy-lee

@tudsworth - Thanks for confirming the non confirmation. I must have read what I wanted to read the last time NL posted about this collection. Definitely a lot of localization work here. I suppose it will be totally playable, but the (sparse) writing in the Kunio games has always been a highlight. Guess I’ll need to learn what symbols constitute “barf”.

Re: Video: See SNK 40th Anniversary Collection's First Set Of Free DLC Games In Action

I’m old, and I love old games, but I’m just not excited about this collection. I do want to try the games that have been updated to twin stick control, but I’m not sure it’s enough to get me to bite. Who am I kidding though? I’ll probably still end up talking myself into it at some point.

@Gerbwmu - Such a great game. I had hours and hours of fun with that one with my friends. One of my grade school friends always got two season tickets for our minor league hockey team every year for his birthday. He always took me to the weekend games, and our pregame ritual was Baseball Stars and River City Ransom while listening to the first House of Pain album and drinking an ice cold Coke on ice in a pint glass. So fun.

Re: German Ratings Board Suggests That Trine 3: The Artifacts Of Power Is Headed To Switch

bimmy-lee

Really enjoyed the first two on WiiU, and those didn’t feel like particularly lengthy games, though it’s been a while. Great atmosphere and music with fun game mechanics. I’ll give it a shot if it’s priced reasonably (as the first two were). I honestly don’t care about the length of a game if it’s fun. Can always play it again. The run time of a game does not equal value to me. It just needs to be fun.

Re: Arcade Beat 'Em Up Caveman Warriors Is Getting A Lovely Physical Switch Edition In Europe

bimmy-lee

Curious if it’s just a common phrase, or if there’s a difference between arcade beat em up and beat em up?

@TossedLlama - Thanks, I had a question, but I wasn’t brave enough to break the cycle. I was kind of hoping it would get to 575th, but no big deal. Kind of wish I had done Sensible Sixth, but I like the word “scintillating”, and I was working on fifth when it posted and I panicked to get sixth in there.
