Good batch of games. Volleyball is terrible, but DDII is superb, and I’ve always wanted to play NES City Connection. I never wanted to pay $5 for it on VC (even though I would own that digital copy for thousands of years!) so I’m happy to trade some change to rent it.

@GreatCrippler - The plug and plays you see in the $5 bin are made by AtGames. This is not that. The reason you see them in the bargain bin is pretty much the same reason why people are excited for this mini.

@JoeDiddley - So good. I have the Cornell show from 1964. I think that’s the year Dolphy left the band. Fortunately for everyone involved, his break out was a much less violent affair than our large Silverback.

@JoeDiddley - The man was a genius. I got Eric Dolphy vibes playing it for the first time last night. There’s a faint needle on vinyl noise on loading screens. It’s not a game that will take over your life. I can’t imagine playing it for more than 15-20 minutes at a time, but I’ll play it many times for that duration. Anyways, it will (probably) always be there, so no rush.

Didn’t realize how many Devolver games I have in my collection until I purchased Ape Out last night, and there’s still more I want. What’s up with the Gungeon update? I looked around the Breach and didn’t notice any new characters. Didn’t spend a lot of time with it though as I was waiting for Ape Out to download.

@JoeDiddley - Ive been waiting for a sale as well, and I’m not disappointed. It’s a very intense game, but the soundtrack is incredible. It starts with a beat, and then every action you take with the gorilla creates a bee bop trumpet squeal. You create improv jazz. I think you’ll really enjoy when you do get it.

@sixrings - I just want a good tennis match, which is why I almost always play local multiplayer. In my experience, online has been chock full of cheesy players. I don’t care about wins and losses, just playing good, competitive tennis matches. Everyone who owns the game gets new characters regardless of tournament participation. If you’re going to do it, why not try?

I think the roster in this game is weird and wonderful. They can take more roster risks, and include more weird/fun characters in the sports games.

I can’t do these tournaments anymore. It seems like every match is against someone spamming drops and lobs. It’s just not fun, nor is it tennis. I can wait until July.

@MagicEmperor - Thanks friend. Just a little silliness to lighten this tense situation.

@WiltonRoots - In your case, it’s like losing a friend you haven’t yet met. You should get a month off with full pay. It’s the only decent thing to do. Really, how much are you going to get done around the office with a sprained punching hand? Hope you feel better eventually.

@HobbitGamer - Thanks, I had a feeling it was just a defective chip. I’ll get it sorted with customer support, and then I’ll be grilling goat meat, tree nuts, and monster parts in no time.

@WiltonRoots - It’s been an understandably rough 24 hours for you. Maybe start an online petition? That usually helps me through a rough patch.

@WiltonRoots - When you’ve cooled off, just go back and explain the situation. Everyone will understand. You know, for the 30 or so years Nintendo existed before amiibo, it was near impossible to snag Nintendo merch for a reasonable price. If they had just left the stupid chips out of these things, people would be happy with a couple cheap statues of their favorite characters for their shelves. I had a huge mystery mushroom skin collection in SMM, not because of amiibo, but because I played the game and they were all in there.

@HobbitGamer - I stopped buying amiibo when I realized they don’t make goat meat rain from the sky in real life like they do in Hyrule. I won’t consider another one until Nintendo patches in that compatibility.

That GB skin in Tetris 99 threw me off last night. I stunk in five straight games. It messed with my peripheral vision, and I had to look more directly at my next piece. It’s an adjustment I can probably make, but I doubt I’ll make it to 100 points over the weekend.

I’m so bad at Star Soldier that I can easily turn “certain victory on Stage 8” into floating space debris in mere seconds.

@RainbowGazelle - Yeah, I saw the LE yesterday. Sure seems like a NSO required game, but it’s foolish to assume anything about Nintendo. Either way, we’ll most likely find out the facts later today.

@RainbowGazelle - I missed that. When did Nintendo announce NSO is necessary to share levels?

I’m with them. If you’re bad at something, do it twice as much and maybe one day you’ll be decent. Maybe.

@daveh30 - I’m inclined to agree, but All Stars was pretty decent.

Flying person is my favorite sub genre. Flying animals too. Which reminds me, Monkey King will break your back and humble you, just like the Iron Sheik.

Tetris is officially on everything. That is very, very cool. The best ASMR video I’ve ever seen.

@Morpheel - Yeah, I was selling myself a little short. I do really love the manic nature of this game though. I once had a 91 place disparity between two consecutive matches.

That GB skin is sweet, but looking at the scoring breakdown; I’ll need to play Tetris 99 99+ times to have a shot at it.

I only played the cabinet a few times back in the day, but played the NES ports endlessly. This is a must at some point. Off topic, but if you’re excited about this, Super Blood Hockey is probably right up your alley.

Tempting, but I’m still waiting for a Pikachu parrot bikini. Which is fine because I just bought boxing gloves for my kangaroo and shoes for my squatch cub. I don’t need to spend any more money on pet clothes this month.

@LivKennedy144- @SharkTip - I can’t imagine it’s easy to see something you’ve worked hard on get critiqued and scored. Can you sell us on it in less hyperbolic fashion? I love the art style. Tell us why we should play it.

@Kilroy - I logged out for six months and only read reviews and real news. I’ve gotten pretty decent at ignoring the trash rumor stuff that picked up a couple years ago. These reviews of mediocre and lower digital titles are real game journalism. Important for the readers, and I imagine they’re tougher to write than a glowing, 9/10.

I love depression era hobo graffiti, and I’ve read up on Kilroy. Are you a service person, or a fan of old graffiti as well?

@WiltonRoots - Yeah, I’ve almost grabbed the Arcade Archives version a few times. I prefer it to the DK arcade games. Less rage inducing for me personally. Glad to see you’re enjoying some the old NES games, though I’m not sure you’re supposed to do that. Maybe keep it a secret.

DKJ was in my NES rotation as a kid. Can’t wait to slay it again and play with my kids. I’ve hummed the title track all my life.

Nice review, though I’m surprised to see it. Reviewing weird indies on the eShop is old school NL. I realize the volume is such that it’s impossible to review every title on the eShop, but I hope this is a sign that NL is shifting more effort in that direction.

Nice batch of games, and Gradius SP is a nice surprise. Gradius turned out to be my most played game of the initial lineup. Twin Bee is the game I’m most looking forward to this month, but December is going to be really nice. Can’t wait to get back into Ninja Gaiden, it’s been a while.

@0muros - This looks outstanding. Is there any free roaming to extend the gameplay, or a post game for exploration? I guess my question is, can I make this game as long as I want to make it by swimming around and exploring?

I would suggest leaving the “arcade” tag off an advanced search as it seems half the games on the eShop are tagged that way, regardless of genre. But yes, this has always been there.

@saintayu - Yep, this is it. This is now the only way to buy games. Going to the store is so 2010 anyways.

@nocdaes - Bought it on sale and played five or six tables last night. The actual pool playing is not as tight as I would like, but overall it’s pretty fun, and it certainly has a bizarre, Adult Swim vibe. Probably best played in shorter bursts. Weird, whacky, and seems like it’s worth the sale price even though it’s not mind blowing.

@WiltonRoots - Haha, I’m hoping nearly every aspect of current culture will seem completely weird and foreign to them in 25 years. At four and two though, that’s exactly how they deal with something not going the way they had hoped.

@WiltonRoots - I agree, other systems are definitely coming. If this is the replacement for VC as it appears, this will become the best online catalog of retro games available, and so much cheaper (for me at least) than buying individual titles. Like you, I’m not worried about where that will leave me in a 20 years when the servers are down because I’ll have long since moved on, but my memories of playing the same NES games with my kids that I played as a kid will remain.

Us simple minded, NES loving folk who haven’t aged well and decided a NES app with online play and cloud saves are worth $20 will fund the improvements to Switch Online. Everything has to start somewhere. I’m happy to be in on the ground level. Don’t even care if that makes me a “fanboy” to someone lame enough to use that word.

Wii generation was the last time I used a game console to stream Netflix, and I watched a looooooot of bad horror movies through it. My wife and I used it to watch through Twin Peaks for the first time. Quite memorable. Everything ends eventually.

Well, the very first scene in the video is a blue ocean, so case closed. Infringement confirmed.

Let me tell you why I think the WiiU failed...

That’s some Raze level violence. Looks pretty good. I’m not down with the heroic gun violence, though the stabbing, slashing, and blunt force trauma are all fine. Guns are for villains. Scared ones.

What a weird choice to simply repost an old review without any updating or disclaimers. It’s a good review made inaccurate by poor editing. I would be angry if I was the author of this review.

I’ve pretty much always dreamed of playing a game as an odd-eyed black cat caught on this casual thought and was cursed to be a cat only at night, so Kitty Love for me. Obviously.
