Re: Umurangi Generation Wins Grand Prize At The IGF Awards

@KateGray - Thanks for the mini review Kate! My biggest question was whether this was free roam or on rails. I love environmental storytelling, and every screen I’ve seen seems packed with it. It’s certainly reminiscent of photos and videos I’ve seen in the last week emerging from one of the current humanitarian crises. Thanks again!

Well let me tell you something Mean Gene, you know man, this game used to cave my head in when I was just a little dude, but now that I got the power of ALL the little ACAmaniacs behind me man; there ain’t nothin in the world stopping me from credit spamming this one into oblivion in front of 500,000 screaming fans at the Pontiac Silverdome brother!

Re: Someone Thinks They've Resolved Nintendo's Joy-Con Drift Problem With An Incredibly Simple Fix

bimmy-lee

If you’re in NA, just file a claim on the site, print a postage slip, and send them to NOA. You’ll have them back in three to five days repaired or replaced. I’m pretty sure they’ve resolved this problem quietly as far as newer joy con are concerned. No need to squirt stuff into them or open them up if Nintendo will handle it for you, this should be reserved for scenarios where there’s no way to get them repaired or replaced under the permanent warranty.

Re: Review: LEGO Builder's Journey - A Chill, Beautiful Building Experience

bimmy-lee

I’ll pick this up eventually to play with the kids. I really hope they continue down this particular game path though, as it’s a nice alternative to the licensed games. LEGOS are a natural fit for a Boom Blox style game, and I’d even enjoy a simple sandbox building game as well. This looks really nice, and I hope it’s a foundation to build upon.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Metroidvania Games

@recent_mantis - I’ve had Dust on my wishlist for years, and I think this is the first time it’s been on sale in the US eshop, which is kind of amazing really. The combat looks great, but I’m not really into a ton of back tracking anymore. Where would you say Dust falls on the international metrovania backtracking scale?

Re: Nintendo Waves Through Yet More Asset Flips Onto Switch eShop

bimmy-lee

I don’t care that they exist, but I wish there was an ignore function on the eshop because these types of games are perpetually on sale, and they just clog up the great deals tab with line after line of games with different colored balls going into different colored cups... and there might be spikes! Or a bird!

@KateGray - Haha, that’s a brutal mix up! Wine is so gross to a kid’s sensibilities. I remember trying a sip thinking it was going to be the sweetest, most delicious grape juice ever, and it nearly caved my head in. My kids have been getting into the Waldo books lately, and I can still remember where he is in a few of the pages. I rented them from the library all the time. These publicly owned Waldo books also had some amount of dried vomit in them. Everything does from the library. It’s fine.

@KateGray - You have to let traumatic incidents like that roll right off you like water off a duck’s ba... eh, I mean, it’s best to just pretend stuff like that never happened, push it deep down inside, and hope it doesn’t make you insane one day. Seriously though, that is a pretty traumatic incident given the vast chasm between what you were hoping for and what you got. When my wife was young, she went to the kitchen and poured a tall glass of lemonade on a hot day. It wasn’t until she took a big gulp that she realized she was drinking salty chicken broth her mom poured in a pitcher. That’s also a helluva bait and switch.

@Arcade_Tokyo - I’m not even sure if this is within the rules of the internet. We should probably be screaming at each other or starting a race war, but here we are; sharing fond old duck stories, and I’d be shocked if you don’t have one. I’ve kinda been expecting you to show up.

Re: Random: N64 Sleuths Are Trying To Figure Out What Game This Old Cartridge Is

@KateGray - Ah cool, so you know all about them. Seems the downside to having wings is being delicious. My friend kept ducks for the eggs (the potato in the fish in the bag in the park bathroom guy who also took a couple of the baby ducks in the box), and I was always amazed at how much they just didn’t give a crap about the obvious pecking order, especially the males. They seemed to actually be filled with rage and would go out of their way to antagonize other animals capable of eating them.

Re: Random: N64 Sleuths Are Trying To Figure Out What Game This Old Cartridge Is

bimmy-lee

@KateGray - Well, I suppose it’s bittersweet. We were able to quickly find homes for all of them with folks who already had proper enclosures, including some who already had ducks. However... this was long enough ago now that, even with good care, these baby ducks are most likely now dead or else so old they wish for the sweet mercy of death every moment of every day. Bittersweet. Circle of life. Keeping a stiff upper lip.

Re: Random: N64 Sleuths Are Trying To Figure Out What Game This Old Cartridge Is

I worked for a parks department many years ago and found all kinds of weird things including an Otis Taylor record I sometimes listen to, a box of baby ducks, and a five gallon bucket full of excrement. My friend and co worker found the weirdest thing though, something that still haunts me to this day. One morning he was mopping out a restroom when his mop handle bumped a sink and a paper bag fell down from underneath it. What was in the bag? A dead fish. What was in the fish? A potato. Why???

Re: Memory Pak: My Nostalgic Sonic 2 Playthrough Was A Treasured Gaming Moment

bimmy-lee

Really nice little read. Reminds me of a simpler time when I lived out of state and would do the same thing while back home visiting my parents. At some point, everyone would be asleep or occupied, and I’d hook up the Genesis and have another run at Robotnik or Mr. X. The Fear is why I still play today. It’s never gone away. It still feels just as good today to triumph over doubt as it did when I was a kid.

Re: Rumour: The Next Donkey Kong Is Being Developed By The Super Mario Odyssey Team

@NintendoByNature - I think it was around 19 dickity wave the last time I DIDN’T listen to Zibbo, and I remember it well: we were on the school bus & Bippo just explained leaked gyro aiming rumors to me and I was like “Whaaaa... get outta here Zeppo, this is impossible even with power glove”, but then, 20 years later, IT HAPPENED. Ever since then, I’ve know this person is gaem god.

Re: Soapbox: Is It Time For Game Rental Stores To Return?

bimmy-lee

@NintendoByNature - I will raise a glass to this smooth talking Sandeep and stand directly in the middle to honor East/West video while putting a fist inside a cupped hand and nodding in respect like Frank Dux. I will also acknowledge the chain smoking grumpy man who owned my small town rental store. This man would sometimes become angry when he had to put down his cigarette and stop playing Dig Dug II so that he could accept my rupees in exchange for candy bars and nes gaems.

One time this man said to me, “Do your parents know how many times you’ve rented Predator and Bloodsport?” I said, “Yes, yes, of course. Now never mention this again, or perhaps something bad will happen to Dig Dig? Perhaps he will go digging in a place he shouldn’t be snooping around and have an accident?”
