@WiltonRoots - It should be the thumbnail for every Sw/Sh article. Maybe the cover on the game box too. They should work in a pic of the deeply satisfied manchild with an over sized Pikachu plush as well.
@HobbitGamer - The internet gods looked down upon us and smiled favorably with this one. It was going so great yesterday, I couldn’t resist sprinkling a little gasoline here and there.
@ARPK - Most of you “okay boomer” kiddos are whiffing on what a boomer is by an entire generation. By all means, continue your campaign though. Your youthful ignorance sustains me.
What if, in 50 years, I’m attacked by a mountain lion, and have to shove my bitter tasting game card into the mountain lion’s mouth to keep it from eating my face? Then I’ll be glad I bought physical... but I’ll also be kind of bummed I didn’t buy digital. I don’t know. Buy both.
@sdelfin - Ha, that’s a funny story. At least you got to see the ending that way. I bet your friend was glad you could help, but also secretly resented it a bit. I always heard the final fight was super difficult. Instant sweaty palms when I’d encounter the gold monster. He packed a wallop, but so much goooold. It didn’t matter half the time anyway because I’d usually get taken out in a random encounter on my way to save. That was a great promotion. Blew my mind to get a NES cart for free in the mail. My NP sub was my birthday gift for years.
Got this for free when I re upped my Nintendo Power subscription back in the day. I enjoyed it, but even with the included guide; I could never get more than about halfway through. It was definitely a thrill to stumble across the gold monster. Sometime I’ll dig out the cart and see if the internal battery still lives. Agree with everyone and the reviewer that the re drawn characters look disgusting.
Great book, and this looks beautiful, though I have no issue with the Universal monster either. The Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein pinball table based on the movie based on the book is available for free on Switch if you download the Stern pinball app.
@NotTelevision - Just a brutal section for sure. Akin to platforming in DD in its ability to induce rage. I was always able to clear it by looking towards the top of the screen instead of directly at the path ahead. The same trick worked for me against Tyson in Punch Out too. I doubt BTs will ever be in the app, but maybe as a stand-alone or compilation release? I’d bite.
It would be a lot of fun to troll Beedle. He would make so many weird noises as I slowly and methodically steal every last piece of his merchandise and drop it in the middle of Lake Hylia.
Wow do I love this post! I remember so many of these, and the entries I don’t remember were interesting. So many things about this show were just baffling me and my friends, but we still loved it. The SMB Super Show would also make excellent fodder for this sort of treatment.
@Anti-Matter - Ha, I made that up, but I guess I can’t say for certain as I haven’t played it yet. While it’s unlikely, I guess there’s a chance, like Buster Douglas in Tokyo in 1988.
@HobbitGamer - Yeah, looks like a fun way to unwind. I can’t wait for the review, though it’s hard to imagine there would be anything that would sway me against it at this point. Jerk simulator, here I come!
@Tyranexx - Looks so good! Love me some mischief. Someday, I’ll post my three part shaky cam footage of our goose chase titled, It Follows II: Honk Beak’s Revenge.
I knew this had to be coming soon because a wild goose followed me home from the park last week and hung out in my front yard for a while. I think he wanted my son’s hat.
When I first started playing this game, I thought it was based on a real Arnie and Sly movie, and actually looked for Contra in the sci fi/action section at the rental store so I could check out the sweet VHS box art.
@JayJ - Absolutely. I’m always bummed out when someone refers to a game as a beat em up and it turns out to be a fighter. It’s a small quibble, but I see it quite a bit. That’s why I wondered if it was maybe a regional difference. Fighters are fine, but beat em ups are my thing.
Sounds really fun. I didn’t realize there’s a demo, I’ll look into it tonight. I thought this was a fine review, but I do wish we could come to a consensus concerning fighter and beat em up. I’m not sure if it’s a difference in regions, but I often see people refer to fighters as beat em ups and vice versa.
This is the perfect game to stretch out and play a track or two per game session. It’s definitely one to play with headphones. As previously mentioned, the Jazz improv soundtrack in incredible.
@WiltonRoots - I’m replying to you from my holodeck. I can barely make out what the Lite looks like because it’s sub 5,000 frames. Just looks like a Game Boy to me. Does it even have a screen? If this thing gets SNES games before Switch Pro, I’m gonna freak out all over the Internet.
@WiltonRoots - Okay, but there’s no headphone jaaaaaaackkkk!!! What will I do with my headphooo0nes?!? Oh, there’s a headphone jack. My point still stands.
@ValhallaOutcast - Haha, yep, that’s me. Haven’t played a GTA since San Andreas, but I was always on the horn. Had to stop playing Gungeon handheld because it felt like I was going to damage my Switch. I had the joycon creaking in the rails like an old rocking chair.
@ValhallaOutcast @QuellX - Thanks for the replies. I’m heavy handed on the controller, and I’ll constantly be initiating bullet time unintentionally. It happens to me any time there’s an action assigned to a stick click. I’ll probably still get it at some point.
I was going to grab this right away, but I was put off by the control scheme in the review. The reviewer stated that the slow motion/bullet time is initiated by clicking the stick down, and while the actions are mappable; the reviewer stated that other button options are awkward. Anyone else figured out a way to play this competently without the dreaded stick click?
Really appreciate the nuanced review. I’ve been curious about this one for a while. My wife and I sometimes play Pub Encounter together, but this seems far more interesting and interactive.
That’s the first I’ve seen the trailer for the new game, and it looks worse than Grassetti’s heroes without their half shells rendition of the Battletoads.
@Reigestugatensho - Yeah, duality is a big theme in most of the LOZ games I’ve played. Even beyond the good vs evil theme. There’s almost always an opposite for everything. Most characters display some kind of dual nature, especially Link. The hero of time is in an infinite loop. A circle. I wouldn’t be surprised if this game has the same map as BOTW, but now we can also explore the sky and below the dirt.
So it’s terrifying backwards and forwards. I’ve watched that short trailer many times now, and I get an as above, so below vibe from it. Light world, dark world. In the sky, below the dirt. Bring. It. On.
That’s a whole lot of polyester fiber and plastic pellets. I have a slightly embarrassing collection of the Sanei Mario plushies, but those are for my kids. Yep. Totally for my kids.
@HobbitGamer - Ha, well let my pay you $15 now and get it over with so that I can pay you $13 for the medkit as soon as you so graciously make it available for purchase.
@nintendork64 - Good call. I’m a day one bank guy, and I always end up getting nickel and dimed with DLC. Best to hold off for a bank of the year edition.
@rdrunner1178 - Yes, definitely. Unfortunately, I can tell this one will be a real slideshow in the frames department. We’ll have to wait and see what Digital Foundry has to say about it.

@NEStalgia - Wild, youthful knee caps have appeared. NES and bimmy use baseball bats. They were very effective!

@ARPK - I agree, it smells like burning diapers. Let’s blow this joint and go grab a cold one... soda... something we can both drink.

Wait, I assumed from the thumbnail this was a Pokémon article. Whoops, I was way off.

Wonderful. A game like this sort of has to have an annoying platforming/hover bike/sewer raft section. It’s expected.
