Re: Soapbox: The Next Pokémon Game Should Rework Old Critters, Not Just Add Dozens More

@Gamergirl4 I feel very similar to you. I wish the Pokemon Company would add the finer details and buckle down on the performance, then go and add mechanics. Arceus was really close to how I've imagined the Pokemon games since the beginning. There are some things they need to add to make the worlds feel more alive besides just them not looking like polygonal garbage. I still want Pokemon getting into scuffles in the wild, flocks of flying pokemon overhead, and forests where the pokemon are in the trees. Nice things to show the world is "alive" and not just a game.

@lovesushi Got Megaton on sale for half off and enjoyed the game until Megaton 2 difficulty. It was for the F2P part of the game and is stupidly brutal. Completely brought down my opinion of the game cause it highlights that Level 5 hasn't learned anything since LBX on the 3ds a decade ago. I SUPER enjoyed Gundam Breaker 3 and it had a way weaker "story mode" compared to Megaton Musashi. Its just cause you aren't locked into 4-5 mechs that are the only ones who can beat a level. GB4 has been very enjoyable so far.

Re: Nintendo Issues Multiple DMCAs On The Modding Site 'GameBanana'

@Anti-Matter Your situation is exactly what we want Nintendo to do. Instead of targeting people who are just making things for fun and trying to better what they can do, Nintendo needs to go after people like your San Andreas "dev." They are causing genuine harm to the IP, not something like a Godzilla in smash mod.
And then there's Bethesda who has been allowing modding on their PC games plus endorses it enough they tried to set up a system to get modders paid. It didn't work but they tried.
So yes, whomever made your "San Andreas" thing is terrible, but not all modders are. Some just want to have more fun with what they love and the technical know-how to make it happen.

Re: Talking Point: amiibo Were First Revealed 10 Years Ago Today, And We Still Want More

I've said for years if Nintendo really wanted to use Amiibo they should make a Diablo style game in the Subspace Emissary plot.
You have a team of characters and the amiibo can hold their equipment and move choices.
Then, they have a feature like the pawn system from Dragon's Dogma where you can send someone your amiibo data and they could load it on their amiibo and use your character. Then you get rewards for helping.
It lets friends play together even if they can't actually play at the same time, people still need amiibo to buy and now there is a reason for multiple copies, plus both parties benefit from the process. Also I just think that kind of game would be fun.

Re: Random: 3DS & Wii U Players Beat 14-Year-Old Halo 2 Server Record

@TheMainMii @dr_Corndog There was a server boss as well that would respawn like in Dragon's Dogma. Co-op missions and the boss gave tickets that could be traded in for useful materials, Skells, or equipment. It's a really good addition to single player games when it's done right, and it added to the overall story in this game.

@EarthboundBenjy Actually the button on another controller makes tons of sense as an older sibling. On the 64 & GC if you weren't sure player 2 would actually mess with something you'd plug the controller into slot 3 so your sibling could "join in" without messing anything up, tell them slot 2 was bugged so leave it for guests, and if you put it in slot 4 they knew they weren't really playing.

I love that they keep discovering old game secrets as well. The Punch-Out secret knock-out frames are my favorite so far. Single frame blinks of audience members for instant kos. HOW would you find that out back in the day? What person could have looked at someone blinking in the audience and thought "I need to punch right now." Its incredible.

Re: Soapbox: The Games Industry Needs To Give Up On Exclamation Marks!

Interesting thought. And it's definitely something that's crossed my mind on purchases. I haven't gotten that new Yu-Gi-Oh game cause I feel like I'll be outpaced just starting the game. The title shows it's the umpteenth game and that there is so much there that you might not be able to keep up depending on how it's dished out to you. I also haven't gotten the "longest titled game" for the other reason. If that's all you have to your game, that the title is longer than any other game, what does that say about the quality of the game? It looks like you put the most work into the title and that might turn off potential buyers...it did, I haven't bought that game and it's one I would normally try.

Re: My Time At Sandrock Lands Enhanced Visuals And New Content In Latest Update

@Astral-Grain I forget the internet scoring system has changed for people. 5/10 just means it's an average run of the mill game of that genre for me. Not good, not bad, just something I'd play to beat. It sucks but not every game can be a banger, you need some mediocre ones and some bad ones to really appreciate the good ones. And I'm not saying this game is bad, just seems pretty average for farming/community sim games. I just like the support they're putting in and that's why I'll buy it.

Re: My Time At Sandrock Lands Enhanced Visuals And New Content In Latest Update

betterthanvegas

@Astral-Grain I'm guessing with review sites it more than likely comes down to who is the most available for a review, since there are a lot of games they have to play, with the occasional "I've played this series before, let me see how they've upgraded/butchered this release." Each of whom require different things to make a great score.

For the series/genre veteran, the newest addition or latest farming sim in this case, has to improve upon the older titles, still maintain the feel of the games, and give reasons for newcomers to join in.

For those with less experience in a series or genre, the gameplay has to be grabbing, the graphics have to interest them, or the game has to have good pacing, these are what keep them interested.

If this game was as buggy as they say it was, it's possible the gameplay loops were tedious, which is the worst thing for any game but it really hurts sim games by stifling your creativity because it messes with your pace.

I am glad they're still working on it and I might buy it soon, I can appreciate when the devs care about the game and keep it going for a long time.

Re: Pokémon's Former Chief Legal Officer "Surprised" Palworld Got This Far

Honestly, not that crazy of a metric here. Several of the content creators I watch have or are still playing the games. While their Twitch subs are 2k+ their YouTube channels reach millions each with one having 20 million subscribers. Looking at it that way, 25% of their subs enjoyed the content enough to buy or play it on GamePass. That's it. Its just word of mouth is at the speed of light now because that's how the internet works.
The bigger question is; will they be able to keep them? If they just leave the game as-is, it'll be dead in month. If they actually update and support it the game has staying power even if you don't understand why. It at least has a functioning gameplay loop that satisfies what people have been wanting, that's the easiest way to look at it.

Re: Quake Releases Slave Zero X Prelude 'Episode Enyo' As A Free Add-On

betterthanvegas

@-wc- When we had ours we had a 2k game, Slave Zero, Guts Beserk's Rage, the jewel game that came with the system I think, and one more crazy game. Thinking back now, the 1st party games being broken (wheeeeeeeew Sonic) and the 3rd party games being non-existent or just plain bizarre makes me think the Dreamcast was never going to make it. How sad.

Re: Sea Of Stars Developer Sabotage Replacing 'The Completionist' NPC

I wonder if Jirard had his dad manage his finances and now he's in the terrible place of do I choose my family or decency? He's stated many times his dad's idea of fun was making money and never cared for Jirard's career choice. Would definitely make the court case super awkward if that were to be true.

No matter what, everyone loses something here though. Even if it's not Jirard's fault no one will trust him again, the devs get the wrong kind of publicity, and we just get bummed more and more that people just keep sucking.

Re: Random: Super Mario RPG Dev Shares Scrapped Sketch Proposals For SNES Original

betterthanvegas

One of the things Nintendo does pretty well is share their game design ideas. Right now you can see different variations of Super Mario Bros stages done on graph paper from back in the day. They also constantly talk about how their games come together; like Mario 64 was chasing rabbits in different stages and climbing trees, which was also how BotW started, climbing random things and just finding stuff. And seeing one of their devs say they love the community sharing things like videos, feels really good, cause that is one of Nintendo's sucky points.
