Re: Soapbox: Ocarina Of Time's Water Temple Was Tough, But It Doesn't Deserve Its Reputation

betterthanvegas

I honestly don't remember having that hard of a time on the dungeon itself but Dark Link took a few tries. I didn't play OoT until the master collection on the GameCube so I was a lot older and smarter compared to when I would have played the game on the N64 so that might have helped. I remember having more trouble finding the ghost ship than anything else in that game. Its somewhere around the Spirit Temple...I think.

Re: Square Enix Appears To Be Teasing Another Dragon Quest Announcement

@Takoda Fair. If I had to recommend one I'd go for IX Sentinels of the Starry Skies. It has a great story, robust class options, and if you can use codes or have an extra router lying around you can access bonus dungeons which people made to help grind way faster. I don't care for the locked class Dragon Quests either so I only go for the free class ones although XI is fun.

Re: Feature: Game Boy Color - A Quarter Century Of Colour Nintendo Handhelds

betterthanvegas

Love the GBC. My first handheld was the original Game Boy so the idea of color in my games on the go was unbelievable. It took me 10 months to save up enough to buy one. I now have the Pokemon GBC from the pic above with an IPS screen and fresh speaker. It's wonderful and the games have never looked better (yes, they're still old and pretty blocky.) Now if I could just find a copy of Crystal locally I'd be set

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon X & Y - The Series' Greatest Paradoxes

@iLikeUrAttitude Haven't played Rube/Sapphire in a long time. What content was cut from ORAS? I remember them adjusting the story to include multiverse (I'll admit my least favorite plot macguffin,) making the Lati's important, and adding the Delta episode. And the secret base function was still there and made grinding easier since people would share Blissey bases and other things I can't remember right now.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon X & Y - The Series' Greatest Paradoxes

betterthanvegas

@iLikeUrAttitude I am genuinely curious as to why you feel that. I find the ORAS remakes on par with HG/SS and Platinum, and those are my favorites. I'm even going through Renegade Platinum right now and then Soothing Silver after that cause as much as I love those games they have flaws too especially with leveling.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon X & Y - The Series' Greatest Paradoxes

Pokemon Amie and the EV training were the best extras of X/Y. Actually getting to cuddle/feed/clean your pokemon actually made them feel special and being able to immediately get any pokemon ready to level up and battle was wonderful. It wasn't all good though, cause the crit boost would hurt a lot when catching pokemon and the anime moments amie caused sometimes made battles easier than they need to be.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Briefed Activision On 'Switch 2' Back In 2022

I'm still interested in their shared docks idea where each dock can output data to boost other docks. That's some cool future tech. Maybe have the systems share their DLSS info so they can upgrade it as more games get added? Just one of those patent ideas that would be cool.

Also, I'm in the Nintendo Super Switch category, but I feel like that's just going to be their internal name for it which makes me weep.

Re: Feature: Digital Doppelgangers - Home Vs. Handheld Adaptations In The 2000s

betterthanvegas

I only played the DS version until recently. Saw the GBA version for 6 dollars and said sure. Low and behold DS version is the same as the GBA version. I had no idea EA was cheaping us out of stuff as early as 2004. It has just has touch screen support and a few smoother areas. But I will say I noticed something really cool about how they developed the game because of it. Those cheats you can buy, match events in the game. You will need a lot of money to do one of the story missions; 10k money cheat you can buy. You need to get through an area fast; faster walk or hoverboard cheat. It was a nice touch I wouldn't have noticed had I not gone through the GBA version.

Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - The Teal Mask Are In

betterthanvegas

I know your pain @drac_Mazoku Personally I found the game super fun and the glitches I had were plenty. Mountains reloading, sometimes an entire minute passed before pokemon would load in, people in stop motion sketches walking past my battles, middling FPS in areas, etc. I still loved it over Shield cause to me that game was BORING. Every event was "You can't handle this. Go elsewhere." until Musk snapped at the end for NO reason. Never got the DLC because of that. The sense of wonder that Arceus/Scarlett/Violet give while exploring feels great and I never got that in Shield. Hopefully the Switch 2 patch story is true so we get to see what these games can really do

Re: Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition Announced For Switch

betterthanvegas

As someone who put over 100 hours into 3 on PS4 I'm perfectly content NOT buying this again. I haven't been back in a while but the game was super unbalanced especially when you're Moze. The mech just obliterates everything no matter the difficulty and there's little reason to not be in it. I felt bad cause my brother was playing with me and we didn't know they would be useless. At a certain point they just hopped in the mech's turret and sat there cause I would kill whole screens faster than they could move. I can't do that to them again.

Re: Memory Pak: Making Contact With The "Ungoogleable" Game I Couldn't Quite Remember

betterthanvegas

The closest game I had for this was Slave Zero for the Dreamcast. I only played it as a demo and never bought the game. Come 5 or so years ago I think about it and give up trying to find the name cause it was a demo, until I came across it at a local video game store. And I do remember every game I've played because I beat every game I start. Some just take a LONG time (GTA 3 2002-2022)

Re: Video: Let's Talk About Those Switch 2 Rumours, Then

betterthanvegas

Honestly if the next Switch is backwards compatible or they are trying hard to make it work like all the reports/rumors are saying I can imagine a reveal this year. Crazy but, if they can get BC figured out then they might not lose sales from the holidays like everyone thinks they would. They could introduce a good price cut on current switches or make actual holiday deals to quickly clear out old switch stock while getting everyone excited for the upgrade patches of regular Switch games when the Next Switch comes out. This is just the ideal tho.

Re: Poll: Will There Be A June 2023 Nintendo Direct?

betterthanvegas

Unless they have a new system announcement or are putting their 100+ 1st party titles they're missing from their NSO services I probably won't even care about the next direct. A lot of the games I've gotten from directs have been ok at best (looking at you Violet) and anymore it feels like you get maybe 2-3 good Nintendo games a year which is the main reason to play the switch. Even so many of the Indie darlings I've tried have started to feel way too similar. Cult of the lamb has been fun at least. Just haven't been wowed by Nintendo in a good while.

Re: Soapbox: 15 Years Ago, The Action Replay Ruined Pokémon For Me

betterthanvegas

I had the exact opposite reaction. I used my Action Replay, opened up my game, and had the time of my life. I still have DS, GBA, Xbox, and PS2 Action Replays. And as someone who had to rent a lot of their games, being guaranteed to beat it in the allotted time because I could cheat let me enjoy way more games than I could have otherwise.

Re: Marvel's Midnight Suns On Switch "No Longer Planned"

betterthanvegas

Good ol player expectations. You marketed the game as made by the X-Com devs and then change the X-Com combat style. I have played the game and I know it's good, but I am disappointed cause of the marketing. There's also a nagging feeling that they were going to go full 2k and MTX the cards so you can buy your way through areas. It's just a feeling and I have no proof of it. I can admit that, but maybe other people felt it too?

Re: Nintendo Has Shipped More Than 77 Million amiibo Since 2014

betterthanvegas

I've said it since they announced Amiibo, if Nintendo made a Diablo style game based on the Subspace Emissary idea with Amiibo being how you show off your character builds, Amiibo would have a genuine benefit and game to work around.
Right now the best amiibo games are smash, XBC3, and monster hunter, with monster hunter and XBC3 just being random drops or one time payoffs depending on the amiibo. That or expand on the Loot Goblin/Skyloft Bird/Metroid idea and have the Amiibo be dlc or redoable content but not lock away content. Just add things that weren't there before.

Re: Random: Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Massive 'Mon Are Making Some Fans Uncomfortable

betterthanvegas

This may be one of the several reasons they took down the main Pixelmon mod for Minecraft. One of it's many draws was that Pokemon could be hilariously tiny or freakishly huge. They would definitely not want to compete with something that would be upgraded constantly for free. Also I don't want realism in my Pokemon games. We're making sentient creatures fight each other and they somehow come to love us for it. They were never realistic.
