@TheOneInYellow yeah, I know what you mean. I guess it was because those games got crunched hard in the music department (so tinny and disappointing!), and the graphics were brightened so much it washed the colors out. But the games were still as good as ever, and FFV had the best extra content, it's Sealed Temple put both Lunar Ruins and Den of Dragons to shame. Though the Lunar Ruins did inspire FFIV's After Years.
I've mostly gone all digital on my Wii U, with the exception of disc-only releases and sales. With no one else I know using a Wii U, and the digital deluxe promotion in the beginning, I was hooked on getting digital versions of everything, not just digital-only releases. Convenience was incredible, and I don't have to keep a bookshelf or boxes stuffed with game boxes, with are increasingly getting more and more sad (no full manuals, no freebies unless you get SE's, etc.) I get that the system seems archaic to a lot of people, and it could be better, but it works for me, and that's all that matters.
@TrueWiiMaster I don't think it's who's to blame, but why the change. It seems it's more of a hang up on presentation to the West from Japanese devs in general, then any just one company deciding it. Of course Nintendo will get scrutinized here; it's a Nintendo fansite visited by mature adults. Any little thing that comes up that seemingly payronizes us is going to raise an eyebrow. But maybe we're not the majority we think we are, and those companies really do have the data on why making these changes is better in the long run. Just saying.
Besides, I think in this case, they didn't like how the inital fanbase responded to what they presented, and wanted to change it. Whether it needed to be changed in the West remains to be seen, but that's another issue to tackle.
I got it and played around with it some today. It's not bad, especially for a new area. The puzzles all revolve around beating a retro character to access a space for your arcade machine accessory, which lets you play the game the character was based off. The Spy Hunter car looks sweet, too, better than the Ecto-1 IMO. It almost has a Retro Game Challenge vibe to the level, since to progress, you have to clear some benchmark in the arcade games. Very cool. The Lego arcade cabinet accessory is quite neat, and opens up some modding ideas.
@Hotfusion Are you kidding? They've been doing that for the last 2 years, and it's working now. What do you think amiibo, and to a lesser extent, the n3DS faceplates were for? The badge arcade? Starting SNES VC on n3DS over, again?
Hell, Iwata even mentioned this exact thing in the investor's meeting last year. They didn't miss that trick, they just went about it stealthily.
Yeah, I wouldn't worry. Licenesees rarely get advance notice of new stuff if it isn't in their contract. New games wouldn't necessarily need new merch.
I somehow doubt all that, and I really doubt th NX will be more powerful than PS4, if anything it'll be weaker, but i'm not counting it out entirely. No hype for me.
@MrMario02 This is what I thought too. I didn't hear any complaints about Bayo being in, if anything, Cloud got the most groans, and that's because he wasn't in a game on a Nintendo system beyond just a small supporting role from what I heard.
And if she won a ballot, she deserves to get in. Simple as that, more people wanted her than not.
EDIT: well, more votes in one territory, but you get my idea.
@Vandy Actually, there were a few places where enemies popped out of pits to hit you and knock you into the pit. Mega Man 1, for sure, since it happened quite a bit, I think in Cut Man's or Guts Man's stage. The trick, though, was to approach the pit slowly, since the enemy pops up if you're a block away.
Nearly all MM games also had a segment, usually in the Wily levels, where you navigate a spine-lined hallway, and you had to memorize where the spikes jut out. They were usually in water, so you had a slower fall, but it was annoying.
@Tempestryke all I can say is that Capcom is strictly in the camp of, "Better to be remembered than forgotten." And making the game harder, not just hard in general, makes the games memorable. Those sticking points is whatdrives you to come back, literally.
I remember the Goron Dance in Oracle of Ages, and dreading it immensely. Like, damn, i'll have to do it again when I replay it. Yet, that's the thing not just makes me remember the game, but serves as a hurdle to overcome and look forward to. It's not that the game is brutal altogether ( I agree with you on MM&B on that regard), but just that one part, the floor tiles to turn red being another, etc.
It was pretty good, and interesting to hear how much control the indies got in organizing it, right down to the banner and videos. It shows Nintendo still believes in them.
I'm curious to see how many people are interested. Dot Arcade may have been awarded a 9/10 here, but most of my friends I showed the game to told me it was just a mobile game and no better than a 6 or 7. The other one said it looked cute. I liked the game a bit, but more for it's novelty.
@GMB-001 I noticed a lot of people post awful comments about devs and stuff when articles like this are written. Even if those people were initially interested in the games before the news broke. Sour grapes, and all.
@Kiyata_Hamasaki no way, not even close. I know of two weeks last year where the 3DS got absolutely nothing except miniscule price drops on shovelware and a few good games. At least this week introduced one new game.
I hardly play multiplayer games nowadays. Most of the people I played with don't like Nintendo anymore, and the few that still do don't live near me anymore. I also don't enjoy playing with random strangers online. If I had to pick, I want more online than local, but I understand how important local is to a lot of people.
I won't enter just so more people can win. No need to take a freebie just because. More people ought to play it, it's nifty, even coming from a long-time Minecraft player.
@tysonfury I think you're right, along with the apparent success the console had on Black Friday. It looks like the consumer base has finally risen enough to be considered profitable.
I've been into the 3DS Terraria and Wii U Minecraft a lot lately, completely neglecting my other games. It really is a great time to be a Nintend block creator.
Another interesting chapter in the story of Devil's Third. Despite the overwhelmingly negative reception, demand has outstripped supply, it's actually hilarious. I'll have to get a digital copy, since the closest store to me that has it is 30 mi. away, and i'm not doing that.
I know absolutely nothing about Terraria, got it for my 3DS, and loving it so far. Some enemies tear me up in 2 hits, and it's hard to gauge if I can handle an area, but it really scratches my "Minecraft on the go" itch.
I had a hard time picking from the eShop/Indies list, goes to show how awesome it was this year for them. I pretty much know who will win the retain/overall GOTY, so not too intetested in knowing those, but I definitely want to see who wins in the eShop categories.
Got Terraria, played it for over two hours, and i'm hooked. Everything looks really small and zoomed out, but i'm getting used to it. Can't wait for Minecraft.
I'm in that special place where this version of the game has appeal, even if the majority says otherwise. One of my sisters has never played Minecraft, nor uses her computer to play video games, but she does occasionally play on her Wii U. And while I stopped playing Minecraft years ago, being able to play with her on this version, with someone who hasn't played it all, would be awesome. I truly am one of those ten people that's excited and glad it's finally happening, well after I gave up on the prospects long ago.
@Expa0 Yeah, when I heard Masashi Hamauzu was composing the music, I groaned. I guess it makes sense, since he scored SaGa Frontier 2 and Unlimited Saga, but I can't stand his style. Like, it sounds beautiful, but has no soul or hook to them, unlike Kenji Ito's work. His stuff in this game is okay, but suffers the same problem. At least SaGa Frontier 2 used leitmotifs, which is rare in video games.
Aww, I like amiibo Festival. I guess it is a shallow game, and there are far better games I could be playing. But then, Xenoblade Chronicles X doesn't interest me one bit, so maybe i'm just weird like that.
I'm not surprised at the censorship, since the first game had censorship too. I'm just surprised at what they chose thinking it was a good idea. Pretty funny, though.
@Pod I said the same thing about the Final Fantasy series, but apart from the FF13 series being milked to high heaven, it was doing really well. I'm sure enough people there can figure it out, and hire talented people. It is MGS after all.

I'm surprised you didn't want to target other platforms first. What made you pick the 3DS exclusively, may I ask?
Re: Review: Parascientific Escape Cruise in the Distant Seas (3DS eShop)
I loved the characters. I hope the sequels get localized, too.

Re: Nintendo Seems To Be Deleting Super Mario Maker Levels Without Explanation Or Warning
I've had a few levels deleted, and cannot be reuploaded. I don't upload levels as much anymore.
Re: Chronicles Of Teddy: Harmony Of Exidus Arrives On The Wii U eShop Later This Month
I thought this game was vaporware. Good to see it finally emerge.

Re: Video: Soul Axiom's Launch Trailer Is Part Tron, Part Lawnmower Man

I'm glad someone remembers that song. There's far too many people I know that are only familiar with the Korn cover.
Re: The Temple of Yog Version 1.1 Update is Being Approved
@Stu13 I already was when I killed by a snake in one hit.
It's been a while since i've played, i'll check out the update.
Re: Interview: PopoloCrois Creator Yohsuke Tamori on Return to PopoloCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale

Re: Neon Deity Games is Working on Bringing Shutshimi to Europe
I haven't gotten the game yet, but it's on my radar. Just need to pinch my pennies until next month.
Re: Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final Storms to Number One in Japanese Charts
Considering how often Atlus puts there games on sale, i'm tempted to just wait for one for this game.
Re: Video: Here's What Final Fantasy IX Looks Like On The New Nintendo 3DS
Oh well, i'm more interested in "demakes" for Nintendo systems, honestly.
Re: Talking Point: The Time is Right for a Nintendo Direct
Enough with the Direct begging. Not every month needs a direct. Let them do what they want.
