Re: Feature: Ten Game Boy Advance Games You Should Play

argh4430

@TheOneInYellow yeah, I know what you mean. I guess it was because those games got crunched hard in the music department (so tinny and disappointing!), and the graphics were brightened so much it washed the colors out. But the games were still as good as ever, and FFV had the best extra content, it's Sealed Temple put both Lunar Ruins and Den of Dragons to shame. Though the Lunar Ruins did inspire FFIV's After Years.

Re: Poll: Are You Ready to Download More of Your Retail Games From the eShop?

argh4430

I've mostly gone all digital on my Wii U, with the exception of disc-only releases and sales. With no one else I know using a Wii U, and the digital deluxe promotion in the beginning, I was hooked on getting digital versions of everything, not just digital-only releases. Convenience was incredible, and I don't have to keep a bookshelf or boxes stuffed with game boxes, with are increasingly getting more and more sad (no full manuals, no freebies unless you get SE's, etc.) I get that the system seems archaic to a lot of people, and it could be better, but it works for me, and that's all that matters.

Re: Nintendo Issues Statement On Side Quest Changes In Bravely Second

argh4430

@TrueWiiMaster I don't think it's who's to blame, but why the change. It seems it's more of a hang up on presentation to the West from Japanese devs in general, then any just one company deciding it. Of course Nintendo will get scrutinized here; it's a Nintendo fansite visited by mature adults. Any little thing that comes up that seemingly payronizes us is going to raise an eyebrow. But maybe we're not the majority we think we are, and those companies really do have the data on why making these changes is better in the long run. Just saying.

Besides, I think in this case, they didn't like how the inital fanbase responded to what they presented, and wanted to change it. Whether it needed to be changed in the West remains to be seen, but that's another issue to tackle.

Re: The Midway Arcade Level Pack for LEGO Dimensions Has Lots of Retro Goodness

argh4430

I got it and played around with it some today. It's not bad, especially for a new area. The puzzles all revolve around beating a retro character to access a space for your arcade machine accessory, which lets you play the game the character was based off. The Spy Hunter car looks sweet, too, better than the Ecto-1 IMO. It almost has a Retro Game Challenge vibe to the level, since to progress, you have to clear some benchmark in the arcade games. Very cool. The Lego arcade cabinet accessory is quite neat, and opens up some modding ideas.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD Leads the Way for Nintendo in UK Charts

argh4430

@Hotfusion Are you kidding? They've been doing that for the last 2 years, and it's working now. What do you think amiibo, and to a lesser extent, the n3DS faceplates were for? The badge arcade? Starting SNES VC on n3DS over, again?

Hell, Iwata even mentioned this exact thing in the investor's meeting last year. They didn't miss that trick, they just went about it stealthily.

Re: Soapbox: Bayonetta Deserves to be in Super Smash Bros.

argh4430

@MrMario02 This is what I thought too. I didn't hear any complaints about Bayo being in, if anything, Cloud got the most groans, and that's because he wasn't in a game on a Nintendo system beyond just a small supporting role from what I heard.

And if she won a ballot, she deserves to get in. Simple as that, more people wanted her than not.

EDIT: well, more votes in one territory, but you get my idea.

Re: Mega Man's Creator Outlines The Rules Used To Shape One Of The Most Brutal Games Ever Made

argh4430

@Vandy Actually, there were a few places where enemies popped out of pits to hit you and knock you into the pit. Mega Man 1, for sure, since it happened quite a bit, I think in Cut Man's or Guts Man's stage. The trick, though, was to approach the pit slowly, since the enemy pops up if you're a block away.

Nearly all MM games also had a segment, usually in the Wily levels, where you navigate a spine-lined hallway, and you had to memorize where the spikes jut out. They were usually in water, so you had a slower fall, but it was annoying.

Re: Mega Man's Creator Outlines The Rules Used To Shape One Of The Most Brutal Games Ever Made

argh4430

@Tempestryke all I can say is that Capcom is strictly in the camp of, "Better to be remembered than forgotten." And making the game harder, not just hard in general, makes the games memorable. Those sticking points is whatdrives you to come back, literally.

I remember the Goron Dance in Oracle of Ages, and dreading it immensely. Like, damn, i'll have to do it again when I replay it. Yet, that's the thing not just makes me remember the game, but serves as a hurdle to overcome and look forward to. It's not that the game is brutal altogether ( I agree with you on MM&B on that regard), but just that one part, the floor tiles to turn red being another, etc.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Minecraft: Wii U Edition, Or Is It Too Late?

argh4430

I'm in that special place where this version of the game has appeal, even if the majority says otherwise. One of my sisters has never played Minecraft, nor uses her computer to play video games, but she does occasionally play on her Wii U. And while I stopped playing Minecraft years ago, being able to play with her on this version, with someone who hasn't played it all, would be awesome. I truly am one of those ten people that's excited and glad it's finally happening, well after I gave up on the prospects long ago.

Re: Review: The Legend of Legacy (3DS)

argh4430

@Expa0 Yeah, when I heard Masashi Hamauzu was composing the music, I groaned. I guess it makes sense, since he scored SaGa Frontier 2 and Unlimited Saga, but I can't stand his style. Like, it sounds beautiful, but has no soul or hook to them, unlike Kenji Ito's work. His stuff in this game is okay, but suffers the same problem. At least SaGa Frontier 2 used leitmotifs, which is rare in video games.
