I own a North America 3DS and Wii U unit, but I live in the Philippines. What the heck do I do to get an opportunity to join this?

@rjejr - yes the update is out, but I haven't tried it out yet. Still the survival portion of the game is definitely worth free, very challenging!

I won't enter just so more people can win. No need to take a freebie just because. More people ought to play it, it's nifty, even coming from a long-time Minecraft player.

Why do you exclude Mexico? Was it the decisión of the developer? Or just beacuse of legal things?

American games' codes work in all of Américan consoles and NNIDs, and that includes Mexican consoles.

@Gerbwmu Very challenging is a big turn off for me, which is 1 reason I asked about the update which is supposed to have coop and tower defence and deathmatch. I like mildly challenging. Yoshi Wooly World in mellow mode using amiibo assist character was all I could manage to beat that game.

@rjejr Couch co-op is a thing but only for creative mode. No co-op survival, which kinda sucks. Had to get Minecraft anyway because of that, though my copy of CL:IS was also a free giveaway code from a while back at least.

@KodyDawg Just thought of sharing that Minecraft U Edition's is priced at $30 because is a bundle, not the basic version. The XBOX LIVE Store also has a similar (if not the same) bundle for the same price of $30.

And it's working I suppose- certainly got the attention of a number of members here already. And anyone who plays the game and likes it will certainly tell others here about it, and that word of mouth is invaluable.

I have to respect their efforts- I mean, for $7 you get a Minecraft-like game with gamepad integration. Seems like a no-brainier to me.

@Olmectron It is a shame that the developer is excluding Mexico. Mexico IS part of the Nintendo of America region. Let's hope the developer's decision is based on lack of knowledge of this fact or due to technical reasons (which shouldn't be any in the first place) and not for personal views/reasons.

@KodyDawg I'm glad you are aware. I was just wondering because I'm tired of people ranting on how the U version is overpriced and the DLC was "free" when Mojang never stated the game as free content, they said it was a bundle. I understand your point. I think the eshop is not set up to allow multiple listings (basic edition and deluxe edition) like the LIVE Store is and that's why Mojang decided to start with the bundle. I think they should've post the basic version and bundle the DLC separate. That can be done on the eshop. I'm also looking forward to see what nintendo exclusive content Mojang makes for the game. So many possibilities!

Also, did you know the game supports the touchscreen? A lot of people and reviewers are not aware of that.

@Dark-Link73 It's not the developer. They already commented in comment #31 that it's okay to join the giveaway for Latin America, it's the NintendoLife region locked submit field that has the fault.

Let's hope they are able to fix that, if they want.

This is unfair! I'm Mexican, geographically living in North America and NL doesn't give me a chance to participate because I don't live in the US or Canada. Even NoA count us in the North American region, just read the back of every game: To sell in Canada, US and Mexico, they even put the freaking Mexican branch address... I'm dissapointed of Nintendo Life.

@JaxonH The devs gave out 1,000 copies last week, 500 on FB and 500 on Twitter. I only found out about it today when I clicked on the link. Was kind of surprised NL didn't mention it. It's still very nice of them to do this too though, just thought I'd add a little perspective.

@rjejr My bad, there IS co-op for Tower Defense and 2-player versus for Death Match (both of which are only multiplayer). Just no co-op for Survival, the only "standard" mode with co-op is Creative at the moment, is what I meant.

I believe all multiplayer allows is 2 people, one on Gamepad and the other on Wii U Pro or Classic Controller (something that this game thankfully is compatible with, unlike Minecraft :/).

@Gridatttack I don't think they care at all. By the way did you know that Mexico and Brazil are more important markets for NoA than Canada? And if I added Microsoft... Well, Mexico is the second biggest market for the Xbox in the world after the US. But the rest of the world don't seem to care.

@Heavycross66 They should say America, thechnically, as every Wii U console in Mexico and other countries are of the same region as the USA/Canadian consoles. It's a shame they don't simply say "America" just like "Europe". After all, it's NoA (Nintendo of America), and not NNoA (Nintendo of North America). I've never understood why people keep saying North America when refering to this region.

Ya I saw the ad on Nintendo Life for the 1,000 code giveaway actually. I went to their site but you had to change your FB/Twitter avatar to enter and make a post, so I said screw all that noise. Was surprised to see them giving codes away with no strings attached.

I got a pair of winter gloves (even though I only wear my black leather pair), this weird windshield cover that unfolds out of a pouch and has built in magnets in the corners- I guess you clip it over your windshield before it snows and then you just pull it off, along with all the snow/ice on it. Should've used it today at work since its blizzarding outside with an icestorm.

Also got a new iPad Air 2, since my other one quit responding to touch just 1 month out of warranty. Got a 2 year extended warranty this time just in case.

Oh, my bro got my these Nintendo character art canvases from Think Geek. One for Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Mario and Luigi. Thought they looked classy to hang on a wall, even though I have no room to hang them.

I take it you use ip detection to tell users when they try to enter if the contest is only for a certain region? I'm in Mexico but my Wii U is tied to an american account so I entered my email to try my luck with this, but a browser prompt stopped me from submitting my email.

@Azikira: Try using a different browser. As I posted before, I got this message with Cyberfox but I opened the page up in Chrome and the entry worked.

@antdickens It worked, thanks. I originally made my account an american one because you couldn't buy point cards for the eshop in mexico, and I didn't want to tie a credit card to my account. Of course now you can buy those in any 7/11, and I have to pay more to get point cards for the US shop. Good times.

Already own the game and im in Europe but to anyone who is on the fence about this game and doesn't manage to bag a free copy, it is well worth the price on the eShop. Survival is a beast, but once you start to get used to the difficulty its really worth the effort. Definetly looking forward to the 7th of Jan for the European update.

@KodyDawg You're welcome. Although I neglected to say the touchscreen support is not fully done. You can navigate ALL the menus, change any setting in any menu, choose any item on the hotbar, do crafting of most items (i say most because you can't scroll using the touchscreen if there is more than 3 options of crafting per item e.i. wooden, stone, iron, golden tools), and even partial inventory management. it is partial because you can't click and drag any item, but if you select it through the cursor/stick, you can use the touchscreen to grab half, quick move, and single grab. Also since you can't select the items in the inventory, you can't do classic crafting. It feeling like a work in progress and that's why, imo, Mojang didn't announce any touchscreen support because is not complete. I think they just released game in time for Christmas and maybe finish touchscreen support later.

The bottom line is that the game DOES support touchscreen funtionality, but it feels like a work in progress. I made a YouTube video about it, check it out.

I've always been mildly interested in Minecraft (or Cube Life,Ucraft,etc) but didn't really ever feel compelled to give up Terraria for it. A free copy would let me get in without the price! Count me in!

@DoctorOverbuild But we'll never know how many people entered without commenting, could be more than 100. The article did say they would give codes away every hour over the next couple of days. 2 per hour would be 2 days.

The long awaited update is still not available in Germany or maybe Europe. But now I have to read here that it doesn't bring local co-op for survival mode with it. Are you serious? That's the main part of the game. All I wanted was to play it together with my wife. Now I'm disappointed. And glad I bought Minecraft last week.

@Tisteg80 We apologize for delayed Update for Europe. We finished both updates at the same time, unfortunately, EU Nintendo was too busy and postponed its release to January 7th. It could be released in America, not in EU, and we are not happy about it.... but it was not in our hands.
*** Secondly, There is a survival mode mixed with Coop and we call it the Tower Defense mode. You have to cooperate there ( this is not Deathmatch mode), you can enable animals and cannibals to join the party, etc etc.... we are sure you and your wife will enjoy this!

It's important for everyone to note that when they talk about the game being for North America, it means that the code may only be redeemable on a North American eshop account (US and Canada). Some codes for DLC have worked for me before with no problems, but eshop credit cards aren't cross compatible. I don't know if games work the same. Region locking is a mess.

@roro26 it says you may only use one so it would be cheating if you used more but in your circumstance you said it wouldn't work. How do you know it didn't work? And if this is true I'm sure that would be fine mate!

@CharleSketch All Game or DLC download codes are the same for every NNID in América with acces to the eShop (some countries don't have access), since every console sold on any country of America are the same region.

Only the eShop points cards are different per country, but that's beacuse of currency, not region locking. It's the same with the PS Store, for example.

@BarryDunne if you're referring to terraria as the original and minecraft stealing that idea, I find that totally absurd. Yes minecraft has some of the same things, Ex: Thorns potion and then they did the thorns enchantment. Don't get me wrong I like terraria a butt load more due to how much more content is in it however I don't think minecraft would be a steal of terraria. People say "terraria is basically a 3rd person minecraft" but it's totally different. Minecraft doesn't have many boss battles. Terraria is more of an rpg sandbox where minecraft is a simulation style sandbox. There's not wide ranges of armors and weapons like terraria(another reason why I like it better). But hey, if this hasn't proved my point, don't know what else more I could say.
