Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Sixth DLC Fighter Is From ARMS

Oh, well that's cool. I'm sure some folks will be happy about the inclusion.

Played demo not much of a fan but am kind of meh!

While I'd like it to be Twintelle, and (edit)Spring Man and Ribbon Girl are assist and spirit, respectively (if the unwritten rule still follows, they are not allowed to be playable characters), then I'll venture a guess it'll be someone like Helix or Byte&Barq.

Probably multiple. Stats are different, but basic gameplay and default abilities are pretty much the same across the cast, so by not specifying which, my assumption is this will be a Bowser Jr. scenario and we’ll get a bunch of different character alts.

Let it be Twintelle, please, she's too perfect to not be in Ultimate.

I personally really want to see Lola Pop, since she is my favorite character from that game, but she is sadly one of the least popular ones. It will most likely be Ribbon Girl, Min Min, or Ninjara since they seemed to be the most popular characters from this game.

Cant be Twintelle, her arms cant extend. Assuming what it says is a hint.

Arms is culturally relevant again? Jokes aside, I'm so happy for this, it's sone of my favourite Switch games, always the top choice for when friends call over. My favourite DLC pick so far!

Min Min is my hope too. Despite not being the intended mascot, I think both the ARMS team and Sakurai are aware enough that she's become more or less the fighter fans are in most agreement over. But I wouldn't be surprised by a Hero / Bowser Jr. situation with Ribbon Girl, Spring Man, Min Min and Ninjara, considering they're probably both a popular subset and some of the ones who could work as pallette swaps

Oof, and there goes my interest until fighter 7. Hopefully this is the last of their first party stuff, but holding meetings and making deals will be difficult for the foreseeable future, so who knows.

I’m so overjoyed! ARMS is one of my favorite Switch exclusives and I was truly bummed to not see a character make the original cut for Ultimate. I’ve been playing a lot these past few days and I hope to see some of you guys in the online lobbies!

Actually the first character that I'm let down by. But I have full faith that Sakurai and Co will make the character very fun to play, just like they did with all the FP1 characters (yes I'm including Byleth in this).

Really really want Doom Slayer in this pack. Prob won't happen, but I'd be over the moon if it does.

Definitely Min Min, either alone or with Ribbon Girl/Ninjara as alts. Spring Man is already in the game as Assist and Ribbon Girl Mii costume reduces her chances of being the main face of the Challenger. Twintelle is popular, but her design would make difficult to include the other Arms fighters as character skins. As for the other characters, none seems popular enough.

finally a first party pick thats actually exciting. i can only imagine it being a case of multiple characters for diff alts, possibly with different gimmicks depending of the character?

@Cevil relevancy is the last thing you need to worry about being a smash pick. plus sakurai mentioned that arms was announced after they finalized the smash roster plans, and implied they wouldve been considered if he knew earlier

The one new fighter that has made me wonder why it's DLC. ARMS is an older title so why is Nintendo trying to promote it? Plus, ARMS already has representation within the game because Spring Man is an Assist Trophy, both he and Ribbon Girl are Mii Fighters, and there are ARMS spirits in the game already. Why add them now? IDGI. At least we'll be getting the ARMS main theme in the game.

Guys, I'm not noticing Spring Man anywhere as Assist Trophy in the game. 5 minutes using Assist Trophy tested in Practice Mode.

It's good when a new Nintendo IP gets a fighter rep in Smash, and hopefully Nintendo will keep the ball rolling and announce ARMS 2 sometime soon. (since they've not supported the first game with paid DLC)

As for the fighter, it's PROBABLY going to be multiple skins from the game.

It’s probably a Bowser Jr. sort of character with Spring Man as the first alt. Some people seem to be forgetting that they can just turn Assist Trophies off (The Moon Assist Trophy can’t be used on Great Bay because the Moon is in the background)

Considering that Spring Man is PROBABLY going to be one of the skins for the fighter, this will be the first time an Assist Trophy has made the jump to DLC Fighter.

If it's Twintelle, it's a day one buy from me.

I'm really disappointed by this. There are so many other longer lasting, more impactful series that Nintendo hasn't given a rep to, but we get more Fire Emblem and an Arms character. It's just really lame DLC. I don't think Arms has earned a spot as a fighter in Ultimate, but characters like Shovel Knight or Shantae absolutely have. Get an indie rep, not a lame Arms character. I'm happy for everyone who is excited, but this is a pretty lame choice.

I was always under the impression ARMS performed below expectations. Is ARMS 2 around the corner? Regardless, it goes without saying the extendo-arm fighting style sounds like it'll be a blast to play! They might even be OP! New top-tier character confirmed!!!

@jtmnm Arms sold really well and was reviewed well too. It just didnt get into the competitive scene because its not as exciting to watch as it is to play.

@YagaMaki Apparently there's music to look forward to. And if they play like Dhalsim, it should be chaotically fun (or at least, I trust that that's what Sakurai has in mind given this choice).

This really should have been in the next Smash game, though, because the franchise just hasn't taken off, yet. Would've been a more well-received pick and the music would have "hit differently" in a subsequent game. I've made it past the disappointment with Dark Pit — I think I'll make it past this one, too, eventually (just needs to not be boring as a fighter).

Cant believe im the only guy here wanting Helix, he seems like the most unique (next to Disango) and would be extremely hype to dodge people attacks in smash. Ribbon girls ability is having more jumps and Min Mins ability is deflector kick...

Wasn’t big on the game itself but I like the characters designs. I’m thinking it’ll be multiple palette swaps as well. The mummy and gelatin guy would be my picks.

I understand why the game is sort of a cult classic. It’s not an easy game to pick up and play. There is definitely a learning curve. But this series has style on par with Splatoon. It’s a welcomed addition. I hope from each skin to be a different character.

I heard that a homeless man broke into the Arms office and started wailing and they recorded it. That's why the game's soundtrack is the same tune over and over. It has me up in arms.

I think the fighter'll be Dr. Coyle, considering they are, as she is the main antagonist, probably the most important character in ARMS that doesn't already have an Assist Trophy/Spirit.

Alright, I want to see Takamaru from The Mysterious Murasame Castle added as a DLC fighter.

He almost got into Brawl and Smash 4, but missed the cut due to his game being Japan-only at the time.

But this is no longer an issue, and I think he would make an awesome fighter.

Also, I wanna see Muddy Mole as well!

I thank its ether Spring Man or Ribbon Girl sense there like the main fighters/characters from that game, like Ryu and Terry from there respective Franchiges, could be wrong though! (yes I know spring man is an assist trophy, but like SHUT UP!!)

This was really unexpecting since we already have Spring Man as an assist trophy and Ribbon Girl as a Mii Costume. What's more, it's arriving in June, and who knows that will be revealed there.

I hope it's Min Min, her style would be dynamic in Smash.

Sure, I'm not upset about this or anything, congrats to people who are happy, but to me ARMS basically existed to fill out the drought period for the Switch, it seems like people forgot about it as soon as there was something else to do.

@MH4 Second guy reporting in, finger crossed that Spring Man gets to be a fighter, but prepared to only be slightly salty for another fighters because ARMS is getting the spotlight. TBH, not having any ARMS music in Smash alone was baffling, but now I'm pretty much guaranteed to get everything else I wanted if the "Swapping Spring Man's assist trophy with Springtron" theory doesn't come up.

I've been slowly getting back into console gaming, and this pushed me over the edge. Time to get back to the game, get beaten down, get good, and maybe hit Rank 20 before the Switch's Online shuts down. At the very least, I get to have some fun and FINALLY grab all of the badges. ARMS UP!

We can assume that Spring Man is out because he's an assist trophy, Ribbon Girl, Min-Min, Nijara and Twintelle are also out because they're spirits. That leaves ten characters that they could use as the representative. My opinion would be Lola Pop, or Kid Cobra. Mechanica could work as well.

At this point Smash shouldn't keep adding fighter passes if its just for characters nobody wants. How many years do we have to scream about Waluigi, a simple add, but no we get 7 Fire Emblem fighters lol ARMS is a cool concept but literally nobody I know with a switch plays it. They seem to be adding fighters just for the sake of it, it doesn't feel like the fans are getting what they want.

The real important question here is: what mii costumes are we getting? As much as I'd like to see Reimu Hakurei as an actual character, I'll settle for a mii costume with a song addition.

I will buy every character that appears in smash.

This is more exciting to me than all of the first expansion put together. Can't wait. I'll be happy no matter who they pick, but I think Byte and Barq would make the most interesting Smash character.

Definitely most depressing fighter announcement so far. This was expected, won't surprise me if we get the protagonist from Ring Fit Adventure later this year. I'm happy for the fans of this game, personally I don't really care, I'm still holding off on buying the 2nd Fighter Pass. If it's actually Spring Man (the only character I know), not sure what will happen with his Assist Trophy. And the Smash community will go beserk, because it´ll put more fire on the whole Waluigi-in-Smash discussion.

This is gonna be an amazing character to have in Smash. Too many toons have the same style, but this will have some nice range with the arms.

I've been asking for this since Ultimate came out. Hoping it's not Spring Man.

Finally. It would be smart to discount ARMS when this releases. Bring this gem back to life.

Twintelle is the most popular Arms character. In addition to this, Twintelle is female (and female charcaters are underrepresented in Smash). Lastly, she could be the first playable black character in Smash

You and I don't know that. I mean some of us are expecting Shantae but she's currently a Spirit. Unless Sakurai actually confirms that an ARMS Spirit becomes a fighter we can only assume that Springman, Ribbon Girl, Min-Min, Ninjala and Twintelle are not going to be the character revealed.

So, now that we know that an ARMS character is the next Smash Bros., the question is, which one will it be?

Of course, I'm one of those sad-sacks that wants Spring Man playable because, despite being dismissed as being "generic" or "boring", but for me it just doesn't feel right for ARMS to be represented by someone other than it's main "poster boy" character; it's like including Dhalsim over Ryu or Waluigi before Mario, if that makes any sense. Of course, being already an Assist Trophy, I'm doubtful that it'll be him, because while I don't think Assist Trophies getting promoted to being playable is impossible, I don't think it's very likely at this point, either. (I also think that, despite me wanting him to represent ARMS as a whole, even I'd think it would be a weak reveal to tease "an ARMS character" only to reveal it's the main character, which feels a little paradoxical in my case... it's complicated)

With that in mind, I have three other characters I think it'll be. First, Ribbon Girl. She's pretty much the "poster girl" for the game alongside Spring Man, plus more female representation is always nice. Second, Twintelle; EASILY the most popular character out of the base roster for, ahem, "reasons", plus again, another female character, and a dark-skinned character at that, I'm all about diversity (bite me, anyone who dares to suggest I'm virtue signalling). Third, Helix; has a lot of potential with just the strange way he fights and moves, plus he's just a goofy character and the Smash Bros. DLC line-up could use more explicitly "goofy" and "cartoony" characters alongside Banjo & Kazooie. Honorable mention goes to Min Min, though, who is also quite popular, a lot of popular female characters from this game as it turns out...

So yeah, my bet is on Helix for now, but regardless, I'm just glad we got more information... even though we have to wait until freaking JUNE to find out more, but I guess that can't be helped at this point in time.

Lmao Arms? Really? Who next, ring fit guy? What a terrible choice that only appeals to younger players that are still hoping for characters like Minecraft Steve or Fortnite guy. There's characters and games with a way bigger legacy that deserve a spot more than a mediocre Wii boxing/punch out hybrid.

Min Min or Twintelle, beyond that it starts to gradually go downhill. I'll be disappointed if we're speculating over box art characters. Max Brass and Dr. Coyle are the main characters of ARMS.

Hope next update increases the amount of custom stages you can keep.

I think a problem with Spring Man is that he is not a top tier mascot and he needs some more character injected into him.

@Supaguy Man, I'd love for them to finally break these Smash 'rules', or at least acknowledge them that the rules exist. But yeah, Spring Man, to me, is like Mega Man or X without the extra weapons/add-ons. He's got enough to do the job, but not much else to make him appealing. He doesn't even have much of a backstory, he's just the most normal dude who got his ARMS one day, oh and maybe a .00001% of a hint of something sinister connected to him with Max and/or his dad, and/or Dr. Coyle (I think, maybe I just dreamt it?) Well, for whatever reason, he's the face of ARMS and is the most logical choice to represent the series. I think they jumped the gun too soon when they made him an assist.

That'd be the sensible choice, given how stupid the "Byleth recruits Byleth" quote-unquote gag was in Byleth's reveal trailer. It's not like the basic mechanics from fighter to fighter differ that much anyway, so the entire ARMS roster could fit with a few differences in some animations.
The main gripe I have with ARMS being in Smash has nothing to do with the series itself, but rather the mere gameplay aspect. What with "ARMS rep guy or girl" being able to, y'know, stretch his or her arms. We all know how hard Sakurai is working to keep reps' faithfulness to their series intact: the man already stated on Twitter that Smash's gameplay and ARMS' trademark stretching arms are going to be a challenge in balancing Ultimate.
I'm already predicting the ARMS character being just as broken as Byleth (whose brokedness already equals an ad for Three Houses interrupting the gameplay), if not even more so. I'm talking Smash 4 vanilla Bayonetta, mark my words.
At least we also get a close-combat fighter with a good recovery out of this, though.

@Thundertron55 Like @boxyguy mentioned eariler, an ARMS fighter is just now being put into Smash Ultimate, because Sakurai said that ARMS (along with Xenoblade Chronicles 2) released too late in the development cycle of Smash Ultimate, to consider a fighther from those games, in the base game or Fighter Pass (1) of Smash Ultimate.

@iSmokeWii, @sandervdtol @ReaperExTenebris, and anyone else who was disappointed by this announcement:

• Sakurai said that he didn't have as much input (if almost any) for Fighther's Pass 1 and 2, since Nintendo gave him a "list" of characters, and asked him which characters could be turned into fighters.
• Also, we still have 5 fighters to go, so it's not the end of the world (yet), if your most wished for fighter hasn't made it.

It sounds like he had "full control" of what fighters could be included in the base game, but not so much with the Fighter Pass 1 and 2.

• With the base game, I believe he mainly based his choices off of the Smash Ballot, that happened near the end of Smash Wii U's DLC support.
• However with Fighter Pass 1 and 2, it sounded like he couldn't do that.

I understand where you're coming from, regarding Byleth and the ARMS character. (I'm actually excited for the ARMS character, as weird as that may sound).
Although, I was disappointed with Byleth, not because it was another sword fighter (I don't mind there being a lot of sword fighters, as long as they're "unique", like Hero and Cloud), but because it was yet another Fire Emblem character.
Those are some cool choices, although Medusa might be kind of creepy. Haha
Personally, I would want Crash to be a fighter, but if that doesn't happen, I'm not going to be upset. (As long as the rest of the fighter pass is "decent").
I'm not sure if there's going to be any more Nintendo fighters (expect maybe Waluigi), because the 1st Fighter Pass only had one Nintendo fighter, so maybe it will be the same case for Fighter Pass 2.

I think it's an unwritten rule, that Assist Trophies, (and spirits) can't become fighters (in the same game, at least).

Arms has had one alright selling game that most people seemed to give up on pretty quickly. Compare that to something like Splatoon, which the sequel has sold nearly 10 million units. It, being new, as definitely earned a spot. And, other games (indie games like Shovel Knight or Shantae, fan favorites like Geno, or iconic third parties like Phoenix Wright, Rayman, or Bomberman) have sold more and are definitely more iconic and impactful yet have not gotten a spot as a playable fighter. Plus, this follows up Byleth, another character who did not earn a spot. Do you disagree?

They are giving us fighters literally nobody is asking for, and asking us to pay for them. I get that its optional, and I'm glad the game is still being supported. Just seems like they are doing it for the money at this point, it isnt about giving fans what they want. That being said, if they announce Shovel Knight as a fighter ill buy the dlc pack asap and probably cry lol

Shovel Knight would be cool, but like I've said earlier, the "unwritten rule" of Assist Trophies, (and Spirits?), becoming fighters (in the same game) is probably holding him back from being a fighter.
However, the ARMS fighter could break that rule, especially if it's Spring Man, since he's an Assist Trophy (and a Spirit).

Okay, that kind of makes sense. I never thought of ARMS having fanservice before. (Now DoA, those games has a ton of "fanservice". Never played them, just what I've heard over time).

Okay, that makes sense.
I can see where you're coming from, regarding Snake and Bayonetta, especially Bayonetta.
Haha, that's true with Twintelle. I guess I didn't think about it like that, since Nintendo doesn't usually go down that "fan-service" route. (The other fan-service route however, is a different story).

To delete a downloaded stage, go to stage builder, go to the stage you want to delete, press X, select delete.

The limit is quite baffling, as the online service seems to encourage sharing of content.

This limit is made worse by the fact that Nintendo also deletes uploaded stages from the server after a period of time as well.

The plus side I suppose is that the 100 I have I consider to be the highest of quality.

I think stages stay online for around 3 months.

A lot of people repost their stages to keep them in circulation.

Never got the ARMS game, but seems like a legitimate inclusion.
There are still other glaring first party character omissions for me though.

Would appear for the 2nd pack they might be focusing on first party characters, whereas the first was mostly third party, which seems the wrong way round to me.
But I guess we'll see what the other characters are.

@ACNHislit well if the "unwritten rule" changed than besides Shovel Knight can we PLEASE get Waluigi? always wanted a Mario RPG/Paper Mario character (especially if they are going back to the PM roots for the new Switch version), Geno? Mallow? Crash Bandicoot seems like a easy add. Even another sonic character like Dr.Eggman or Knuckles would be a pleasant surprise. ARMS will be fun im sure but if this is the final DLC pack why not get weird with it? another FF7 character. more classic pokemon even. the possibilites are endless lol
