To mark the 34th birthday of the Dragon Quest series, Square Enix has announced a new trio of Dragon Quest games, all of which are based on the manga Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, which ran in Japanese magazine Shonen Jump between the years of 1989 and 1996.
The biggest game of the three games is called Infinity Strash - Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, and is due for release next year on console formats. While Square Enix has shown off a trailer for the game, it stopped short of confirming exactly which consoles it would be coming to. It also hasn't said if the game will be getting a global release.
The other two games are Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai – Spirit of Bonds for smartphones and Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai – Xross Blade for the arcade. A new anime series will also be coming to Japanese TV this year, based on the same storyline.
Looking at the visuals in the trailer, we'd say this could very well end up on Switch – let us know if you'd like the chance to play it by posting a comment below.

Wow this looks badass!!!
This will def be on the switch, just have to be.
Doesn’t help if it gets released on the switch but not available in the west.
I wouldn't get my hopes up.
Holy **** Dai no Daibouken. I actually watched a portion of the anime but at the time there was no good fansub. That's just plain weird for them to be trying to make a game based on it, though.
The anime isn't even out yet. that's what I call promotion
I assume there was a team of people working on this project. And between everyone involved, 'Infinity Strash' is really what the settled on?
@TobiasAmaranth Not weird at all, IMHO, it's totally deserved. One of my absolute favorite shounen manga.
The game plus the new anime makes me hope they'll actually go all the way through the story this time instead of only up to a certain arc... Surely they can do all 300+ chapters?
I hope it is coming to Switch, because we can assume it won't end up on Xbox One, and I don't have nor plan to buy a PS4, so... Yes, I hope so.
I guess it will be a good game, but I can't help but thinking that they missed the chance to use that story to make a proper Dragon Quest XII. Dai no daibôken is the Dragon Quest video game that never was. At least it was one of my favourite animes growing up and I got to see it in my country's television.
After the continuous (almost downright annoying) promotion DQ11 got in Nintendo Directs and even Smash, it would literally be a crime to not put this on the Switch.
But after cases like with Capcom's atrocious support I can't even get surprised anymore.
I think I'm good for the next two years with all the content in Dragon Quest 11S.
@Desrever
Another good contender for the Stupid Name Olympics. I appreciate that they've actually invented a word, rather than just hammering several random words together like Artichoke Resonance Globular: Reflux (bonus points for throwing in pointless punctuation).
I think the ideal would be a name built out of random made up words, something like:
Frazzmotic Cromulance: Contrafibularity[Instupituous:Edition]
The gameplay looks from a Switch console to me.
It had better bloody come to Switch because it looks frikkin awesome.
Digging the action style of the combat, it looks similar to Trials of Mana and that game is a joy to play. I think I would prefer that then the turn based battles of DQ XI.
Really hope this gets localized and releases on switch. Also more of a longshot but if this also had local co --op andor a battle mode it would be perfect.
Yes please! With PS4 in its death throes and Switch doing so well in Japan it would be crazy not to come over.
Hopefully it will get a Western release or at least an English sub.
The game doesn't appear to be some sort of technical marvel and Dragon Quest has found a nice home on Switch, so I'd be surprised if this game was skipping Switch.
That name is unfortunate. Infinity Strash??
That name's Strash as far as I'm concerned.
Okay...so, what kind of game is it? Like a true Dragon Quest RPG? An Action Adventure? Or just some kind of casual game?
Looks fantastic. 🤞🏻 Crossed this comes to Switch. Need some more DQ after finishing the fantastic DQXI.
If they like money (and I believe they do) that game is gonna end up on Switch. And I hope it actually does...
@westman98 well.. Aban Strash is the real name of Dai's attack, not Avan Slash like it was changed in the west...
@emeyece looks like an action-RGP. Almost Trials of Mana-ish in gameplay.
I don’t know why people are assuming the art-style means it’s definitely coming for Switch. I hope it does but there’s plenty of other games with this style that have passed Switch by, like SAO:AL (still hoping that comes to Switch)
Dragon Ball: The Adventure of Dai
[FIXED]
This looks really cool! I've really gotten into DQ lately, so hopefully this comes to Switch.
Nintendo lovers in the west will see this game 5 years from now.
The animation looks great and I like Dragon Quest, but I’m just not really into action RPG combat-so I’ll probably skip.
This looks gorgeous, IMO. I think I could really get into a DQ ARPG.
Hopefully it's a Switch game, and it comes West.
This has got to be one of the worst video game names ever.
Strash? Is that a proper noun? Like, “hello I’m Mr. Strash, no jokes now”...?
after not getting Dragon Quest Heroes i am cautious about my hope for this
it looks amazing and DQXIS was sooo good too but we need this new game to come to Switch AND to the west
If Square Enix doesn't like money,not releasing it on Switch would be a good move.
Game looks pretty cool so far
@Renart OK that makes sense.
I guess this game will be renamed to Infinity Slash if it is ever localized for the western markets.
I was hoping it would be a traditional rpg o well it looks more inspired by kingdom hearts
Dragon Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest Zeeeeee.
I like how it has that late 80s early 90s vibe.
per the video alone, ill say its more close to a switch game than a ps4. Looks really good, but not that much for a ps4. But im no tech guru, may be completely wrong.
Looks awesome but would be sad if this was just a mobile only game. I would buy this on Switch day one if does come to the west. Dragon Quest games had so many hiccups when it got announce, you had to worry about if it was good then worry about if it was going to be localize to the west as well, then you had to worry about which platform it's coming for that it's probably wishful thinking that we would get this at all.
Loved this anime back in the 90s. I really hope this a) Is released on Switch b) Covers the whole storyline.
Looks like SQEX is getting its money's worth on Trials of Mana's framework. Combat looks nearly identical down to the enemy juggling.
It looks fine, but the gameplay appears a bit dated, like how the player-character floats faster than his legs walk.
So it's Dragon Quest Ys? Okay, I'm in.
if the game flops, it will be known as dragon quest infinity trash.
I bet the name will be changed to Infinity Slash if it’s released in the West? This announcement trailer is not meant for anyone outside of Japan.
If its action-rpg like Diablo i'm in. If its like Dragon Quest Warriors thingie i'm out. This would look fun on smartphone too but it will never get localized anyway
@DevlinMandrake I can't wait for Frazzmotic Cromulance 2.9: X(Cross)fintied Whizzpopper
@RoyanRannedos
That's vapourware, man. Half the original Frazzmotic Cromulance dev team commited suicide during playtesting of the original and the survivors were co-opted into some mil-tek psyops unit.
I hear there are downloads available on the darkweb, but they've been known to lead to severe psychosis and there was that whole Millsport Incident where the beta players spontaneously mutated so I doubt you can play even a partial transcript safely, even with a set of Chiba-quality Holtz-baffles on your rig.
Interesting. I loved the last DragonQuest we got on Switch right up till the "2nd" ending. I personally feel it was a cheap shot to make one "grind" for levels to take on the boss of 2nd ending. I hate when games make you blatantly grind side quest as it causes a distracting stall in the main story to which 50% of the time I do not return to.
Looks like Dragon Quest meets Diablo and I don't really care for it.
@mesome713 The worst video game name I can think of is "Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk".
Name looks terrible, but if the gameplay is like dragon quest hero's with a better story I'm so down.
@dimi there were 2 dragon quest warriors game and it honestly they were great (mechanically). It played exactly like you'd want a action dragon quest game to play like. It feel just like an extension of the turnbased games somehow. Now the story was god awful even for the warrior spinoff genre. If this plays like dragon quest hero's 2 but isn't as lame story wise I'm down.
Looks great. I really get Goku vs Mercenary Tau vibes from the trailer.
I am looking into playing this game too. I am a bit of a Dragon Quest fan after trying out a few on 3DS. I have DQ11 on my Japan 2DS XL and liked the design of it. I look forward to it.
