The game's 30th April release date may well have only been confirmed earlier today, but New Pokémon Snap's Switch eShop listing gives us the full rundown on all the key details you'll need to know.
Let's start with pricing. If you choose to buy it digitally, you'll need to hand over £49.99 / $59.99, confirming that this is considered a full, major retail release. It'll also be available physically, so you may be able to grab a copy slightly cheaper depending on individual retailer prices.
The listing also confirms that the game will be 6.8GB in size, so make sure your Switch's micro SD card has enough space available if you're buying the game digitally, and can be played across docked, tabletop and handheld modes with touch screen support available for the latter. The Switch Pro Controller and Save Data Cloud functionality are also supported.
Also confirmed is the fact that New Pokémon Snap will be a single-player experience – co-op is not supported – and the game will be available to play in English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Korean, and Chinese.
The game lets players take on the role of "a budding Pokémon photographer and work with the Lental region expert, Professor Mirror, and his assistant, Rita, on an ecological survey to photograph Pokémon thriving in nature."
If you missed it, make sure to check out our gallery of screenshots for the game. It's looking pretty fabulous.

Wish more games supported Arabic. There's a reason it's one of the five major languages.
Hmm. Price leaves me a little disappointed. I had thought that this would be a lower price release but I should probably know better by now. Hope it lives up to it
Were people expecting coop or something?
I thought professors had to have tree related names.
So far I dig everything about this game except the region name. Lental. Sounds like the legume.
I'm confused...who expected co-op out of this game?
Of course there won't be co-op because this game runs to smooth for co-op playing.
@tanaka2687 Yeah I hoped for Captain Toad pricing but apparently it has over 200 Pokemon to snap rather than 63 in the original so should be a longer game. Big file size too
And here is the homescreen icon:

Price seems a little high for an onrails shooter that's only going to be a few hours long. Then again what else should we expect from the publisher that won't even discount straight ports of old games.
@Mr-Fuggles777 If it's worth it to people and it sells, the price will remain high, but only if a business wants to remain profitable and have stability.
It's not Ikaruga. Who expected co-op?
Anyway, looking good. Will likely buy.
Explore the Lentel Soup region!
@aaronsullivan it will definitely sell, it's Pokemon! As will the DLC packs filling in the rest of the Dex I'm sure.
Hopefully they have alot of gen 1 pokemon as they are the best. Yes even voltorb. Maybe they will work in lesser future generations in dlc 😋
Labo VR camera would make this one a day one purchase for me.
@TheSmashTheorist good stuff
@Kalmaro I was curious about that too and decided to google “mirror tree.” It’s apparently a technique used by genealogists to trace ancestors. I might be reaching too far here, but that could be really clever if this game has Mew as a major plot point like the first Pokémon Snap did.
I'm interested, but £50 seems a bit steep for what's likely to be a fairly short on-rails shooter. If any retailers are selling copies at closer to £40, then I'd probably bite.
@Mr-Fuggles777 Their may be DLC but it’s not the kind of game that would benefit from the whole dex. The original only had 63/151 Pokemon in it, and that was across 6(+1) pretty long courses.
@J-Biz weird I thought I remembered more than that. To be fair I was usually really baked when I played it so my memory is muzzy, I think that's why I loved it lol.
@Mr-Fuggles777 More than a few most likely. With more courses already shown than the original game and 3.5x the mons available I'd expect this one to be a longer experience. Probably around the 8-10 hour mark
Why it looks so much nicer than the big budget Pokémon SW/SH?!
Funny how people was expecting a first party Nintendo game to be less then 60 bucks lol
@crimsontadpoles Shopto and Base.com are normally around the £42 mark for new Nintendo games (besides Breath of the Wild which is still 50 odd). Currys also have been doing some really odd decent deals on Nintendo first party stuff including new releases.
Though having said that, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX has remained in the mid 40's which is a shame. Liked the demo but not 40+ liked.
60$? It better be longer then. I'm not much of a stickler for price per hour, but I still expect a $60 game to last a little while. I want to get this, but I keep feeling like Pokemon is alienating me anymore, so I'm gonna see how it reviews first. The last few Pokemon games haven't been fun for me.
@Darkyoshi98 Captain Toad's Wii U release really spoilt em on hopes. That was £19 odd on most retail over here at launch (and we got it before Xmas even though Nintendo delayed it to mid January a few days before launch).
But alas. People need to realise a game that constantly sells has no reason to drop in price or retail lower, regardless of our personal wishes.
I’m hoping it will be a little longer than the first one. If not I won’t mind too much because I tend to replay all my short games yearly anyway. I have beat Bayonetta and Bastion yearly since they released and I plan to do the same with New Pokemon Snap.
As much as the price seems a little high I'm not against it as the original was considered that for the time on the N64 and I never regretted getting that for the experience and more than likely will get this too as it has been one of those games I was surprised never got a sequel on something like the Wii or Wii U and thought it would never happen. But were people ever expecting it to be co-op? The whole concept is a single person taking wildlife pictures.
The big question is if it supports gyro aiming. That would be a game-changer.
It is beautiful but this still is a photography game on rails it ain't worth $60.
@Kalmaro they are all named after some sort of vegetation, and there is a mirror plant, it's also known as Coprosma
This looks pretty good, but just for the sake of a little variety, could the comments not end up at Pokemon sword and shield are horrible games.
I don't understand why everyone says this looks so much better than Sword & Shield. I mean, it looks like a fun game to me, but personally I'm quite disappointed with the textures and the way the models look in this game. When flipping through the screenshots on the official Nintendo shop page, the textures on the ground and foliage look atrocious!
Full price with only 200 pokemon sounds like a modern pokemon game.
@Ephralance It would be nice if the mainline games looked more like this or Pokken. Nintendo should let Bandai take a crack at making a mainline game.
Long live single player games!!!
Does it supports LABO VR Camera?! This game was made for it !!
I would buy just for this
No online means I will wait for it to go on deep sale or pick up a used copy for half price on kijiji....
What a shame no online.... even if it was just a competition for most photos, best, certain Pokémon, etc.... so many options.
That price better be worth it. If not I will unfortunately have to wait until it goes on sale. Depending on the length, it might be just another casualty of Nintendo's policy that every first-party game must be $60 regardless of the circumstances. Understandable from a business perspective, but not a decision I agree with.
Are Oak and Todd gone?
It looks great honestly, I just really hope the Pokemon company will learn from this and apply graphics and animations like these into the mainline games
Who on earth expected co-op out of this? Stupid, annoying Youtube influencers, err, influencing gamers' expectations? Good grief. :/
I can't wait to get it regardless. Pokemon Snap is one of the coolest games of the last 20 years.
@FiveDigitLP Probably because Nintendo fans are used to treating games as visual art that their brain can appreciate the details and beauty of even as it forgives/fills in the missing background elements, instead of needing a photorealistic documentary experience to elicit even the slightest suspension of disbelief.
Also, fair warning, if your focus in pictures from this game is the ground and foliage textures... you might find yourself not getting very high scores in the game itself.
[edit: On reflection, most of that wasn't very fair or nice of me to say, and didn't address the specifics of what you said very well. I'd just delete it, but I can't take back the automatic email copy that replies generate, so instead I've gotta make a public apology out of it. Sorry, ugh.]
super mario 3d world + bowsers fury is not worth 60 bucks. pokemon snap is not worth 60 bucks. seems like these whiners do not want to pay full price for any of the Switch's AAA Games. some Call them "Disgruntled nintendo fans. Sorry in reality they are sony trolls. why are they doing this? because PS5 HAS NOTHING ANNOUNCED as a confirmed release date for any AAA GAMES. NOTHING!
WHAT does PS5 have for Feb.? Nothing . March? nothing. April? nothing. Look at what the switch has. mario + bowsers fury. bravely default 2. monster hunter rise and pokemon snap.and this is just the first quarter of the year. what are the Confirmed games for the first quarter of this year? God of war? NOPE. GRAND TERISMO. 7? NOPE. what do they have? Sony trolls are scared that the switch and it's games are going to keep selling in the millions and ps5 will never catch up. that is what sony trolls are scared of. go to alot of posters here they belong to PUSH SQUARE. you will see their profiles there as well.
Disgruntled nintendo fans? i think not. Get over it sony trolls the switch and it's games are going to sell. Bowsers fury. pokemon snap. The AAA GAMES are going to sell and there is nothing you can do about it. so get over it.
and what I mean by confirmed date is like Pokemon snap APRIL 30TH 2021. not may 2021 or march 2021 an actual confirmed release date.
@eaglebob345 Game Freak owns pokemon, they won't be able to do mainline games.
@TimboSlice Online? Really?
I think the game will probably be 5-10 hours long. I'm pretty sure there will be more than 200 pokemon.
I'm sold. This looks like my Animal Crossing, something I can chill to.
I really enjoyed the original and am looking forward to this, but some of the graphics leave much to be desired. The water areas look GORGEOUS but the grass and leaf textures are pretty bleh. I'm not expecting hyper realism in a pokemon game but I would've liked to see them a bit more detailed. Think BotW grass and foliage, it's simple but still beautiful looking.
People saying the original was only 2 hours long, I don't think y'all were doing it right.
I still don´t understand something: why is that it´s always cheaper in pounds? And why is it always the same amount in euros and dollars, but not pounds, when there is a much bigger difference in exhange between euros and dollars, than euros and pounds...?
This count doesn´t make sense anymore. To make it "fair", it should be 50 pounds, 55-60 euros and 70 dollars (which is almost equal to 50 pounds). Otherwise, put the games at 50 euros as well, on par with pounds. As an european, I feel discriminated.
@Haruki_NLI I was stupid enough to hope so, just to play it with my kids.
@Fath
Haha. I appreciate the apology. I was honestly laughing at your response because I'm about as big a Nintendo fan as it gets and am usually rolling my eyes at people who get all uptight about graphics. More than anything with this game I just find it funny how so many Pokemon fans were upset with the look of Sword and Shield, but think this one looks just fine. I beg to differ.
But yeah, I played the original and loved it! I'm really looking forward to it and hoping my non-gamer wife might get some joy out of it like she has with Animal Crossing!
@fireflydrake Yeah, I think you pretty more accurately conveyed what I was trying to get across!
Also, I feel like the Pokemon models and art style of everything else looks inconsistent. It seems like some of the environment is supposed to be going for a semi-realistic look, but the Pokemon look fairly cartoony (which is not necessarily a bad thing). At least with Sword & Shield, I felt like everything had a consistent style.
@Ryu_Niiyama I mean, co op would not stop this from being a single player game.
@pixelpatch long live single player games!!!
@fivedigitLP now that you mentioned the cartoony bit, I wish they'd gone for a more Pokken tournament type of style. That game really hit the sweet spot of making Pokémon look good while still making sure they looked like Pokémon.
Ah well.
@Mr-Fuggles777 if its anything like the first one, its def more than a few hours. it has high replayability, as theres secret paths you must look for, and the pokemon too, as well as they do different things depending what you throw etc. and you cant see all the pokemon at once in one go thru one level, not to mention its more the fun of taking bomb photos. of which are sometimes required to move on. So its def more than a few hours and is a full price game of its worth for sure.
@Mr-Fuggles777 @Mr-Fuggles777 hm yes because I too would want a beautiful game that took a lot of time to make to cost 20 dollars just because it's bringing back an old game even though there is much more detail and pokemon. Sounds fair
