Re: Review: Dear Me, I Was... (Switch 2) - A Bold, Heartfelt, Wordless Visual Novel

XenoShaun

I bought and played through this yesterday. Even though it was only roughly 45 minutes or so, it was a beautifully told tale that leaves a few things up to interpretation via visuals only. It was rather bittersweet from start to finish and definitely don't feel like it was a wasted fiver.

The whole 'gameplay' side seemed a little odd. I think I may of preferred if it was more of a movie short, as it really doesn't add anything to click on a few things or waggle the stick / wipe the screen to progress the rare screens that require it. Having said that, I did enjoy being a little chaos gremlin in my choice of which order I ate my breakfast foods.

@Dunkin I am not referring to sponsored or paid for content. Merely pointing out the connection they have along with them working together and being friends with each other.

At the bottom of this site they even have Eurogamer linked as a 'friend' that they share content with, alongside other subsidiaries of Hookshot Media. Two completely different things.

Re: Feature: 22 Games With 'Secret' Performance Bumps You Should Revisit On Switch 2

An update now that I have spent 140 hours and completed all three stories for Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes. Game has no frame drops and looks fantastic in handheld on Switch 2.

HOWEVER, the game crashes fairly often, freezing when loading, or in some instances during cutscenes requiring to force close the game. Just make sure you have a couple save slots and save regularly as can be annoying having to repeat battles because the game fancied freezing in the cutscene after victory.

@PJOReilly Did you have any similar issues if you did end up putting some decent time into the game again? It seemed to occur more often early in the story campaigns, likely due to more loading screens and cutscenes.

I found Age of Calamity looked and ran worse on Switch 2, though I have only played it handheld. I hear docked it does feel and look better.

I have also played the three other Nintendo themed warriors game, Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition looks and runs great in handheld. It's issue of producing 1080p in handheld now works with the screen being 1080p.

Fire Emblem Warriors looked and ran decent as well handheld. Though I don't recall any major issues playing it on switch 1.

Currently replaying through Three Hopes though, and too seems solid with no dips or graphical hiccups.

Note my experience is purely comparing handheld experiences on both Switch 1 and 2.

Re: Review: Fortnite (Switch 2) - A Visual Overhaul & Neat Mouse Mode Tricks For Ol' Reliable

XenoShaun

@larryisaman Majority of the ads I get on YouTube have been for Fortnite Switch 2 edition. Not sure if it's Nintendo or just Epic fronting the advertising but it's the most advertised Switch 2 product in my experience so far.

As for Fortnite itself, I remember when it was a neat Tower Defense style game, which I found endlessly more interesting than whatever wide as a lake - shallow as a baby pool it's going for nowadays.

Re: UK Charts: Old Favourites Keep Nintendo In The Race As Xenoblade Plummets From Top 10

XenoShaun

@JohnnyMind @dew12333 Probably in reference to us Brits unfortunately mainly supporting Playstation over here along with major dudebro games or sports titles such as FIFA/EA FC.

Jrpgs and the like, or Switch exclusives are often short lived in sales which is a shame.

As for Xeno X sales in general, everytime I play the divisions and squads are filled with Japanese players all the time, so I suspect it is very much a big seller for Japan but not so much in the West.

Re: Netflix Lays Off Staff At 'Oxenfree' Developer

Funnily enough, I just got an email a few days ago Netflix stating they are upping their prices again, think for the fourth time in the past year.

Pay more, get less. Hope the developers can get back on their feet swiftly enough.

@Hirsbrunner The only game I can think of would probably be the Pokémon Scarlet/Violet games and DLC? Most idiots put the blame on Nintendo solely for that when really any criticism should go towards Game Freak and The Pokémon Company.

Outside of that, I can't think of a Nintendo game that would of been popular enough and had enough scrutiny. (Was thinking maybe Everybody 1-2 Switch but that seems far too harmless of a game). Of course this is assuming it's based on something recent and not some deep rooted psycho play.

This guy really needs to calm down and rethink his priorities on life. Videogames are a luxury pastime, not a life and death scenario :/

Re: Feature: Why Play Final Fantasy VII Remake When You Could Play FFVII 'Demake'?

XenoShaun

@Bratwurst35 I remember when I was younger I did get quite excited to see Final Fantasy 7 get a movie, even though I didn't think it was overall a great movie but did have some fantastic spectacle. But I generally find - especially nowadays - that everything good tends to get ruined by greed of being overdone. I played FF7 when it came out in UK and did enjoy it for what it was, then it seems every subsequent attempt to get money out of it has declined in quality and weakens the 'FF7 IP'. I still believe all the problems in the 7 universe would be solved if Cloud and Sephiroth just got a room together though!!

Re: Feature: Why Play Final Fantasy VII Remake When You Could Play FFVII 'Demake'?

XenoShaun

@Serpenterror I'll second you on that. I have played both Remake and Rebirth and they are pretty bad imo. The best parts I found was when they stayed away from the terrible combat mechanics. The 'open world' of rebirth just gave them an excuse to fill it with boring repetitive busywork that ruins most open world games.

Honestly don't think modern SE has it in them to do justice to any of the older classics.

This demake looks cute though and really interesting to see if SE did stick to sprite based over the 3D hurdle.

Re: QubicGames' Switch eShop Sale Takes Over 100 Games Down To Just $0.20 Each

@Princess_Lilly @czdjax I've mentioned in an earlier comment on some recommended games but will be happy to share again. Robonauts, Dex, Mana Spark, Akane and Bit.Trip games. Some others have also recommended Rekt. There is so much trash to wade through but the publisher has a few bangers especially at the prices.

@Yalloo I only really got into Bit.Trip Runner, but some friends really liked Beat and Core. It really depends though if a simple premise can hold your attention. I could keep coming back to the Bit.Trip runner games all the time (all three).

@Rambler @Vordus Quite possible. They use the same trick with their Christmas giveaway as well. Just find it quite interesting how these systems work. Must be something only NA hasn't fixed otherwise would assume something similar for us Brits and the Europe folk.

@PineappleLake I assume it's 89p and .99euros too then.

@NinjaNicky While I can't argue that majority of their catalogue (especially the past few years) has been horrendous, they do have a few quality titles that shouldn't be just overlooked. To name a few: Robonauts, Akane, Mana Spark, Dex and the bit.trip games.
