Re: The Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Has Been Forced To Shut Down

XenoShaun

@TheFrenchiestFry I'll have you know Miyamoto-sama sends out a cookie personally to all those who post a specific wanted opinion !!

In seriousness. These topics always lead to Black and White takes on each side. When really it's more of a big gray area of opinions. I am a believer in upholding copyright purely from my troubles in the past of people trying to steal mine and a colleague's hard work. But it's never as simple as saying all copyrighted things should scare anyone from taking inspiration.

Either way these guys are talented and hope (as mentioned in my prior above comment) they have things in place to repurpose their work into something original, or least like the AM2R guy, has job prospects.

Re: The Fan-Made 2D Metroid Prime Game Has Been Forced To Shut Down

@ManInTheChair I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment, but look at it this way. Them basing a fan game on Metroid has netted them a LOT of publicity, and if they are smart they will have the game set up so they can repurpose the code for an original title. But now they have many many more eyes on them due to this tango with the Nintendo lawyers.

If life was simpler I would definitely want them to of gone straight to an original game, but the risk of it not reaching anyone or taking flight because there is no form of marketing to get the game in the eyes of the public.. I don't blame them going this route first.

Definitely a big waste if they just stop and move on with their lives though, but also understandable if they wish to do so.

Re: Review: Boyfriend Dungeon - A Fun But Ultimately Shallow 'Dating Crawler'

XenoShaun

@nessisonett @CharlieGirl I just want to mention, while there isn't an outright 'bog off' response option, the character in question can be completely ghosted outside a few story focused scenes where you can call them out on their bullpoopy and the likes.

Could it of been done better? Sure. But it isn't as terrible as it may first seem. Perhaps in a later update or next venture that can write such characters and dialog options better. I don't think the story should completely remove such characters as while very unfortunate those people exist, and it needs exposure. But of course in a better written manner.

As for game itself. Found it quite fun, the characters are diverse and not just copy paste tropes like most dating Sims, and the combat while simple is quite satisfying. It's a game you can just chill out to and kill some monsters in the Dunj.

It's a good start that hopefully can be fleshed out with better experience of the devs.

Re: You Can Now Pre-Order Sonic Colors: Ultimate On The Switch eShop

XenoShaun

@Fujimoto-San Now that the NDA is lifted, can say it's worth getting and holds up well on the Switch with rarely seeing any dips in frames. Only major thing that irritated me (in my 50 odd hours of play) is the loading times are inexplicably long and have no reason to be. Besides that though it's very fun and a lot of content to enjoy!

Re: Another Free Add-On Is Now Available For Classic Doom On Switch

XenoShaun

@FargusPelagius Oh I am aware of the old modding culture. Honestly didn't realise these were fan mods initially. If it's all cool with both parties the content comes then I am more than happy.

It's just sometimes difficult during a time like now In the gaming industry where some steal and flog off users content. So can never be too sure I guess. But that's great to hear this is more of a celebration of good will and such.

@fusermarucs @Azuris @GamingFan4Lyf

As said above. Was pretty much my bad on not realising it was mods initially. Am glad it is cocher with all parties involved.

Re: Another Free Add-On Is Now Available For Classic Doom On Switch

XenoShaun

It's awesome we are getting all this stuff and free to boot. Makes you wonder where the catch is, like it's not a game that needs drip fed content to continue user engagement. I guess the development of these maps and such don't cost much to produce and release?

Either way this is a shining example of getting good customer will.

Re: Heist Simulator Aims To Steal Away Our Spare Time, Is Heading To Switch

XenoShaun

@Silly_G That sounds extremely dumb. Why can't we just buy the game and we get the game? It really shouldn't be that hard of a concept.

I'm not fully sure on Streets of Rage. The little bit I had been reading into it, the re release should have everything coming out up to that point, but apparently more DLC is planned to release after it. Sounds very much the same with how Two Point is being treated, though Streets of Rage has a smaller publisher backing it I think? Definitely compared to Sega. (Which incidentally you would of thought Sega would be publishing also.. Sega IPs are handled weirdly of late).

Re: Heist Simulator Aims To Steal Away Our Spare Time, Is Heading To Switch

XenoShaun

@Silly_G Really? There isn't much of an excuse when they did a new re-release. That is disappointing to hear. And yeah the slight consistant nudge to purchase the DLC is annoying (could be much worse.. could be mtx or lootbox nudging eugh).

Even more pathetic I just looked at the file size of the game on my SD with all the DLC and updates. It's 3.6gb, they could of fit it on a 4gb card. I would be bit more understanding if it was pushing towards or over 16gb, but then they have a giant publisher like Sega backing them.

Edit: Yeah more games need to get the GoG treatment. That place is my go-to for most PC purchases (mind you limited due to my naff hardware specs). Least on there you can just play the original Theme Hospital in all its nerdy 90s glory.

Re: Heist Simulator Aims To Steal Away Our Spare Time, Is Heading To Switch

XenoShaun

@Lyricana Yeah there is some stigma. But maybe I hang out in a different part of the rail tracks haha. It's mainly the stuff you find from the old Steam greenlight days or nowadays poor mobile games that somehow get ports. I won't deny there are some decent ones in there.

I have found too many that are just store bought assets, reskins or straight up the same game being sold again under a different title. I'm quite bitter when it comes to that kind of stuff I guess.

Re: Heist Simulator Aims To Steal Away Our Spare Time, Is Heading To Switch

XenoShaun

@Silly_G I think I have just been desensitized to it all by the sheer amount of 'scam' developers selling them as asset flips on Steam. Though Simulator isn't the only type of title that gets abused (candy crush style puzzle games were rampant for a while too, all the same literal game, but instead of all the levels being in one game each level was SOLD as a game. Steam was messed up back in greenlight days!).

I think a key thing here is too, even though you liked and sounds like that Turkish game is quite good, I've already almost completely discarded the thought of looking it up mainly due to the 'Simulator' addition in the title. I may be just an old fart with that, but I am pretty sure too many people have the same conclusion with those names, which in turn is a shame when the good ones don't even get given a chance.

Re: Heist Simulator Aims To Steal Away Our Spare Time, Is Heading To Switch

XenoShaun

@Lyricana Games attached with Simulator in their title?

Majority are all over Steam but even the Switch has quite a few dire games.

To name a few:

Car mechanic Simulator
Driving School Simulator
Hunting Simulator
Taxi Simulator
City Bus Driving Simulator
Truck Simulator
Island Flight Simulator
Speaking Simulator
War Truck Simulator
Farm Mechanic Simulator

Just to name a few specifically on the Switch. They also have variances in titles like <insert vehicle type> simulator or <insert adjective> simulator.

Don't get me wrong this looks like one of the few that could actually be good fun (there are a handful that are a good laugh such as surgeon simulator and goat simulator), but in most instances Simulator is riddled with low effort poor money grabs which could lead people to think this one was too.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Online's Library Is A Snapshot Of '90s Gaming Shelves

XenoShaun

@victordamazio I doubt many fans are actually defending Nintendo on their decisions here for the consumer. All the NSO topics reflect as much.

There is likely logical business sense to what they are doing, but that has nothing to do with our likes and wants.

The article in question here is pretty much in short just saying give the unknowns a try. Didn't feel there was any actual defending of the way Nintendo handles it all.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Online's Library Is A Snapshot Of '90s Gaming Shelves

XenoShaun

I agree that lesser known titles could be diamonds in the rough, my personal issues are (and mentioned in the announcement topic) that majority of the games added as just short time wasters with little meat or content to keep enjoying. Unless it's something that really clicks with you, not many will get what they hope of their money's worth from it.

A more varied selection would be nice. Or maybe just some JRPGs that aren't just the two Capcom ones we got.

There is also the issue with how Japan seemingly keeps getting more high tier games that rub the western fans the wrong way.
