Re: "Consumers Generally Do Not Care" About AI In Games, Says Former Square Enix Exec

Wool_Sheep

Any company that is using AI as an excuse to not pay employees/fire them is not a company to be trusted. Ubisoft has been claiming an oopsie daisy with Anno, Arc Raiders has been proud about not paying their voice actors, CoD didn't want to pay artists for the mess that is their graphics all show they have zero interest in basic quality control yet still want all the money for it. If they were stupid enough to invest in a shiny it's time for execs to pay the consequences for once. It will be found out and people deciding, use AI then no buy, do add up. Some people won't care as ever but there's a reason why the Triple A department is becoming increasingly untrustworthy making waiting minimum the best for customers.

Course Square Enix have invested heavily into AI after the NFT bandwagon so they don't exactly have a good track record with sense.

Re: Yooka-Laylee Dev Playtonic Is The Latest Studio Hit By Layoffs

Wool_Sheep

Being in the UK, wouldn't be surprised if the NI changes that kicked in are also a factor on top of one former dev saying they left before they were pushed because they already were seeing warning signs. The industry is on fire, they've not had the output to keep sustaining and getting hit by that one as well is easily one straw too many.

Re: Ubisoft's Prince Of Persia Remake Expected By 2026, But It's Delaying Other Major IP

Wool_Sheep

The remake trailer looked like garbage and in places, worse than the original somehow. Sands of Time is still one of my absolute favourite games but the way ubisoft constantly and consistently drops the ball with it is beyond frustrating. The most work you'd need to do is update the combat system with general sprucing otherwise but you'd think they were trying to remake it from scratch and eyeballing the original version as reference.

Re: PSA: Redownloading Switch eShop Games Has Now Changed With Latest Update

@HammerGalladeBro I had Tetris 99 digital originally and physical when possible so that seems good for science purposes.... And it does NOT show on the digital download list. Other physical games that have just DLC only are sideways and upright if it's "Software and downloadable content". The latter example I'm looking at I had to buy the digital deluxe on top because it wasn't with the cart and had no other means of getting it.

Re: Zelda: BOTW Switch 2 Edition Won't Include The DLC, Nintendo Confirms

It's feeling like every decision is just to extract that little bit extra from people while telling you to be grateful it's not worse. Quite incredible to go from such a good Direct to constantly tripping and falling over themselves with bad communication and a hand reaching for your wallet.

Mario Kart 8 managed it, there's absolutely no reason BotW can't when there's a golden opportunity to do it and help future preservation to boot.

Re: Review: Mato Anomalies (Switch) - Ambitious Detective RPG Is Overstuffed And Unengaging

For anybody finding this review later:

If you buy the physical edition you will be locked out of multiple pieces of DLC with the exception of Digital Shadows which can still be bought and Pioneer's Badge/Treasure From Heaven which you are given a code for. Go Digital Deluxe be it via Switch or Steam as these are the only way to get the missing DLC. The cart is also on 1.0 and requires a large update to get it up to speed so your only real benefit is the artbook, there isn't even nifty inside boxart.

If you DO get the physical box, wait until the Digital Deluxe is 90% off as it is at the time of this edit. It will update the original game and allow you to download Digital Shadows from the e-shop for free.

Re: Sega Delisting 'Mega Drive Classics' On Switch eShop This December

Glad that support page is nice and clear. I've got three games on Steam for the megadrive that are going to disappear and three of the dreamcast ones that are also going. If you're also going the Steam route do double check the two bundles, might be able to knock the price down on any renegades. Gonna give it until the end of the month just on the off chance of a sale before the nuke.

Re: Ubisoft's Disastrous 2024 May Lead To The Company Going Private

Wool_Sheep

Honestly not surprised they're in trouble. From covering up the amount of abuse in the company and shuffling around the culprits to expecting infinite money growth in the form of live services to be forever, they've made no end of stupid decisions over the decades. With crunch worsening, meddling from higher ups who refuse to listen/completely out of touch with the market and a genuine fear of doing something different this was bound to happen sooner or later and will for a lot of the industry too. When they let go of the leash a bit we get the latest Prince of Persia (If still with the dreaded road map attached), when they don't you use a WW2 memorial and a re-enactment flag which you then have to go back and fix. Course gamers don't particularly help when they start throwing death threats around because a protagonist isn't Straight White Dudetm.

Still, I hope employees can get basic work conditions and safety they deserve before it implodes or the ability to get out. They'll always be the ones to suffer instead of the ones who caused the problems in the first place.

Re: Bō: Path Of The Teal Lotus Updates Could Be Affected By Humble Games Layoffs

Wool_Sheep

@nhSnork It's sadly very standard these days across many industries. Many employees at Humble Games had no idea they'd just lost their jobs until they saw the news and since they don't matter, the indies they were working with were even less of a priority.

Really do feel for both the former employees and these game studios. Their hard work will still get profited from and those still standing will be the first ones to get yelled at for something completely out of their control.

Re: 'Armello' Developer League Of Geeks Lays Off Over Half Its Staff

Wool_Sheep

@Chaotic_Neutral The industry is in an awful state right now because of vulture capitalists, it's coming up to christmas/high end of year bills and all plans have just gone out the window along with savings about to take a hit as they scramble for new work in a year with the highest number of layoffs in a long time. It would stress anybody out and talking to somebody on the outside can be a massive help particularly if they have additional issues that need to be factored in.

Support being offered for those who might need it is basic decency, something this industry is greatly allergic to.

Re: Anniversary: Capcom's Breath Of Fire Series Is 30 Years Old, And We Miss It

Wool_Sheep

Please bring the franchise back Capcom. The GBA ports with their quality of life features were fantastic helping get me into "proper" RPGs and though I was never able to try the original Playstation pair I did manage to get my hands on Dragon Quarter. The soundtrack always makes a killing and I'm forever sad I was never able to afford it though I did manage to get the artbook on launch.
