Nintendo was never going to step on their Christmas sales, so the thing to do would have been to release that ***** Switch 2 trailer on January 2nd to get ahead of the leaks, announce the date for a Direct in February detailing the games for the new system.
Nintendo have the option to hire me for the small sum of five cinnamon and raison bagels a week.
Supposedly the reason he is called donkey is because Nintendo were looking for the word stubborn ('stubborn as a mule', I guess), and the new design looks goofier, not more stubborn. Nor does it look more like an actual donkey for that matter.
They should have put a trailer together and released it as soon as the leaks started appearing, with the games revealed in January or February. April is just far too late.
Well, in truth I had been determined to not get the next console for a number of reasons:
-I have a huge backlog
-I need to save money
-I feel let down by the appalling online service Nintendo has provided for Switch.
-I want to spend more time reading and writing.
But I am still potentially interested in the subject matter and gaming in general.
I think an iteration on the Switch is the right choice for Nintendo at this time, it's just that approach is only exciting if the new games look enticing.
As it is, the reveal was very lacklustre, quite probably because it was rushed due to the leaks.
Mario Kart looks bland to the point where, at the risk of contradicting myself, they probably would have been better off not revealing that yet.
I find it hard to believe that they are not far along enough with game development to show more.
If a game were to persuade me against my more austere judgement to get a Switch 2, it would probably be Smash.
There is no need for an April announcement if they're going to reveal details in the meantime.
As there have been so many leaks about the Switch 2 already,
I don't think it's a leap to imagine that there will be about the games in the next couple of months.
A positive I think is that it should clearly indicate that this is a separate console to Switch1, with the console actually evolving in the trailer, and of course the name, Switch 2.
Because a mere iteration on a console is not exciting without new games.
So the next 3-4 months will either see:
a) Dead air, leaden excitement.
b) Or leaks about the games, with Nintendo still not getting on top of the situation, which was seemingly the whole reason for this tepid Switch 2 reveal.
They must have games a reasonable way into development, it would have been far better to show at least a little, or commit to a Direct for February at the earliest.
I'm struggling to see why anyone would rush to get this console.
Right now I find it difficult to predict if this will be like PS2 or more akin to PS5.
Much might depend on the global economic situation, which I'm not confident will be in good shape by the time this console releases, seemingly June at the earliest.

How does the new design evoke a donkey?
