But if negotiations were his aim,
then why did he not accept them?
And why is he ruling out a zero for zero deal?
And if we're using the reductionist thinking of, y happened after x, therefore x caused y, then you could just as easily argue that the EU tariffs caused the 90 day delay (I don't think that was the cause, but that reasoning is just as logical).
That doesn't contradict my point,
but to continue the discussion, for me I feel they now respond to what people want more, which I do like as we get the fan service in Smash Ultimate for example, but then series with a smaller number of fans are often neglected.
Political is not the same as partisan. Whether you agree with the tariffs or not, they are a reality. To tell someone not to talk about politics is tantamount to telling someone not to talk about life.
Their aproach to seeking a profit has changed, as I detailed. In some ways for the better, worse in others, in my view.
Granted I have not read every comment on here, so perhaps you could direct to those who don't believe that Nintendo has always been a for profit company.
The thing that strikes me,
is that if they had waited a day or two to announce, in terms of optics, the prices would have looked a lot more justifiable.
But the crux of the issue isn't around emotional nonsense about whether Nintendo is greedy or not, or being obnoxious about certain people supposedly being poor.
A cretinous assertion in itself, as some wealthy people can be quite thrifty.
Rather, it's a question of whether this is strategically wise, and whether individual customers want to pay that much.
And certain failures in the past for Nintendo suggest they are more than capable of getting it wrong. N64, GameCube, Wii U, and 3DS all show this, but that last one is perhaps is most illustrative here;
Nintendo got the 3DS price completely wrong,
and despite being a for profit company, and a company that had done research, they had to decrease the price, at a loss or at least comparative loss.
A lot of people seem to be suffering from amnesia.
As for my memory, yes Nintendo has always been for profit of course, but it seemed in the past to be a more long term vision,
with discount games series which enhance their reputation, artistic directions that aren't guranteed to sell versus the more risk averse releases now. This recent Disneyfication has been much remarked upon. Mario has been bigger than Mickey Mouse since the late 80s, yet they didn't rush to do the theme parks.
A company intent on short term profits would have built a store in Japan long ago.
They were reticent towards the microtransactions on mobile, not because it wouldn't yield money short term, but because it might hurt their reputation long term.
Whilst obviously wanting to make money, they seem to in the past have wanted to appear to have artistic integrity, and to not appear rapacious.
I think now we are seeing more direct short term calculations, more akin to the Anglosaxon approach.
(That is not an ethical judgement, just an observation on their strategies.)
So to blithely state that Nintendo is a for profit company is be so banal as to be of little utility.
So perplexing.
That Europe and Japan featured Crafted World would suggest that this is merely an error.
However the new artwork would suggest that something is going on.
But then why wouldn't they have shown it at the recent Switch1 Direct?
I have been told that music is the reason before, but the mobile port of the game has the music intact, so this explanation doesn't make any sense to me.
Not great overall, especially compared to Switch 1,
but gets points for trying something different by launching with a Donkey or Zelda adventure, and with Mario Kart.

Re: Nintendo Of America President Says Tariffs "Not Factored" Into Switch 2 Price
@roboshort
Quite, the US set up the economic world order and has benefitted enormously from it.
As for the tariffs, I can see a scenario where Trump wins the battle,
but America loses the war.

Will be interesting how it turns out.

@johnvboy
The EU offered talks before the tariffs were levied.
Re: Opinion: A Few Too Many Questions & Unwelcome Surprises Are Taking The Shine Off The Switch 2 Reveal
@johnvboy
"Take a game like Metroid Prime 4. The franchise has never been a massive seller. But Nintendo have brought it back. And even restarted development."
So Nintendo does sometimes prioritise other things over immediate profit then.

Of the three countries you mention,
Taiwan has the largest economy,
and only comes in at no.22 in the world.
The far bigger news from that region is Japan starting the process of offloading USD,
along with Japan and Korea moving closer to China economically.
This has been a little overblown in some quarters,
but is nonetheless an omnious sign.

Re: Talking Point: Zelda: Wind Waker Is On Switch 2 - Do You Still Want A WW:HD Port?
@GoldenSunRM
I reckon Nintendo have game developers among their staff,
perhaps they could create new dungeons to fill those obvious gaps.
Re: Talking Point: Zelda: Wind Waker Is On Switch 2 - Do You Still Want A WW:HD Port?
How many times are they going to release this game in an unfinished state...
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Nintendo Switch 2 Special
I feel the Forgotten Land Switch 2 stuff adds a lot to the box.

Great game,

Re: First Impressions: Nintendo Switch 2 'Wows' Most When You Go Back To Your Old Switch
Not sure that's such a great endorsement.
It should wow in isolation.
Re: Gallery: We're Going Bananas For These New Donkey Kong Bananza Screenshots
Breath of the Kong.
Re: First Impressions: Nintendo Switch 2 'Wows' Most When You Go Back To Your Old Switch
Apparently I've been 'selected' to have the opportunity to pre-order the Switch 2.
Has everybody on the NSO emailing list got this?
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
@Chimichanga
Well it's 'poor people' from the 'first world' that are a large part of the market.
In any case, the 'first world' is a cold war term, so is therefore obsolete.
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?
@wwwwataboy
The quality of the lineups is what I was comparing.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Game Upgrade Pack Prices Seemingly Revealed (Japan)
If I got a Switch 2, I'd get these updates anyway with NSO.
But still seems grubby to me.

So perplexing.
That Europe and Japan featured Crafted World would suggest that this is merely an error.

But then why wouldn't they have shown it at the recent Switch1 Direct?
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
@MrMagic
That is a good point.
Just wait a day and suddenly the price increase comes across as much more reasonable, whatever the truth is.
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
A good time to quit gaming for reading and writing I do reckon.

I have been told that music is the reason before,

Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
@ButterySmooth30FPS
Price points have a psychological threshold,
it's why many items are priced with .99.
I don't pretend to be an expert on it,
bit looking at many of these comments,
$80 seems to be the threshold for some.
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
@Hank_Scorpio
And the N64 went on to corner the market.
No, hang on...
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
@Neither_scene
"Nintendo have a ton of market power right now"
"They’ll have run the figures and these are the decisions they believe will generate the highest returns."
Let's have a look through Nintendo history and see if they've made poor decisions from a position of market strength leading to spectacular failure...
... oh my! God no!
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
This feels a lot to me like the N64 game pricing when it came out.
Expect it will similarly put a lot of people off.
@mikegamer
An exception that applies to just two of the launch games? You reckon?
Re: Switch 2 Games Cost A Bit More Than You're Probably Expecting
It's a disgrace,
probably.
Re: GameCube Games Confirmed For Nintendo Switch Online On Switch 2
Crazy Taxi on NSO could persuade me to get a Switch 2.

Eugh, charging for upgrades is just gross.
Re: Donkey Kong: Bananza, A New 3D DK Adventure, Is Confirmed For Switch 2
I didn't mind the redesign so much before,
now I hate it. They've made him act too whacky.
