Re: DK Challenge Event: Challenge Card List & Event End Date

I don't like how the SNES challenges are only on Switch 2.
I get having GameCube games exclusively on Switch 2,
but not having the SNES challenges on NSO for Switch 1 seems bizarrely meanspirited to me.
Like, these challenges are not going to entice me (or I suspect anyone) to get a Switch 2, it's just going to annoy me.
NSO members on Switch 1 are still paying for the service.

I don't recall expressing a strong opinion,
nor claiming that the majority of reviewers/players don't like the game,
just that some reviewers have pointed out how it might not appeal to the target audience.

I have commented a lot,
so I'll happily be corrected and take a look if I did.

The closest I can find is:
"Many reviewers felt there was a mismatch between the target age the style of gameplay seemed to be going for."

As I explained previously, that doesn't mean the reviewers didn't view the game favourably overall.
And in any case, "many" is not necessarily a majority.

As for Yoshi's Story,
the MobyGames archive has it on 77% based on 49 critic ratings collected from magazines/sites of the era.
So not thaf different from the scores Mysterious Book is gettjng now.

But nowhere have I, or the reviews I read, claimed that it misses the goal audience completely, just that the amount of text might be difficult for them to read (a few of the reviewers played the game with children); you ought not to persist in that strawman argument.
I recall at the time some reviews of Breath of the Wild said that the dungeons were lacklustre, yet still gave it ten out of ten; it need not be binary.

"You state that "a few have been overall favourable" but yet the critics rate it at an 8,1. More then a few are overall favourable it seems."
Yes, I could have said a "fair few" or such like,
I wasn't trying to mimimise the overall feeling towards the game,
just that plenty have mentioned shortcomings as well.

"But yet you state you've consumed a lot of the games coverage. If you did that without looking for opinions (reviews) that match your feelings about the game, you would have bought it."
Come on mate, this is really weak sauce.
A lot of people consume gaming in different ways these days.
A few of my students when I taught at a Japanese university would watch Splatoon but never played it.
Myself, I'm middle aged and don't have a Switch 2,
and find myself consuming gaming in what some might consider a second hand way more than more.

I think you've let yourself down a bit with the above point.

I do find the presentation of the game pleasant and rather enjoy watching coverage of it, even to the point of making a couple of custom Smash stages based on levels, but that's as far as it goes (some might say quite far already mind);
I don't feel the need to buy a s Switch 2 for it,
and if I did, I think I would try to rent it, as it seems the appeal is in the discovery (which I'm getting from reviews and footage) and afterwards it's rather like having a completed colouring book.

Again, I think you've let yourself down a bit.

I think the game in time might find a similar place to Yoshi's Story;
a bit underrated, but with issues that are difficult to ignore
And that's fine.
