Re: Virtual Boy Cardboard Model Gets A Limited-Time Discount In Select Locations

@AussieMcBucket
It would not really be a concession would it.
Every other NSO app allows the games to be played docked.
All they need to do is refrain from barring that for the VB app.
They clearly could, as they produced 2D footage of the games in the trailers.

Indeed, you can play GB and GBA games docked, on a TV.
But that's not how they were played originally, Nintendo have gone completely mad!
That was not their original vision! Heathen method of playing handheld games! Kill! Persecute!
It's against God! It's the end! The war wound!
CATS AND DOGS LIVING TOGETHER, MASS HYSTERIA!

Not really.
The controller example is far more comparable (though admittedly not exact) because you have to buy it separately like the headset.

No-one forced Nintendo to release these games on a system that doesn't do 3D, people are already paying for NSO.
If N64 couldn't be played at all on NSO without extra kit (here's where the comparison isn't exact) you'd have a point.

Also wise to give non-headset option as using isn't very enjoyable, partly why the system failed.

@AussieMcBucket

And if one buys the headset that does recreate the original experience; don't see why it ought to be mandatory.
People seem to be talking as though having a 2D option would take the headset choice away.
A number of N64 games are far better with the original controller, and much more how they were intended to be played.
I'd like to get one at some point, but I'm glad to have the choice to do so or not.

Being deliberately obtuse is sometimes referred to as weaponised incompetence or playing dumb.

My claim wasn't that looking at two small screens is adequate; otherwise I wouldn't be saying there should be an update.
I'm saying that I have tried all with the headset and didn't feel the 3D was integral.
You seem to be trying to be obtuse.

As for your skepticism, if you're just going to insinuate that I'm a liar, there's not much point in having a discussion.
With me, or anyone whose experience differs to yours.

@thedicemaster
Did try that, didn't find it great with the screens being so small.

"I've tried every VB game on NSO so far,
and didn't feel any needed the 3D affect."
-Uncle Franklin, August 1st 2026

I find the claim that Mario Clash needs 3D especially odd.

But reliance on the headset is the mistake.
I don't think anyone is suggesting that they shouldn't try to sell it, but not allowing a 2D option, when people are already paying for NSO is a poor decision.

In a series of poor decisions regarding VB.

They could have:
-remade Wario Land for 3DS.
-added VB games to 3DS Virtual Console.
-provided a 2D option on Switch.

That they managed to swerve all these options is impressive.

@N00BiSH

More viable or ideal is not the same as not serviceable.
Numerous people (including my brother, wowzers!) have played these games in 2D,
and found it to be fine.
You repeatedly saying otherwise doesn't invalidate these people's experiences.

Just give the option,
people can still get a headset and play the optimal way.
If anything, by requiring people to use a headset they're repeating the mistake they made in the 90s.

Re: Virtual Boy Cardboard Model Gets A Limited-Time Discount In Select Locations

@N00BiSH
I mean, emulators have done just that,
and the 2D versions seem serviceable.

@BrianJL
I mean, so what, even if that were the case?
(and GammaPhonic's experience with MiSTer core seems to suggest it isn't)
If people want the full experience, they can use a headset.
Nintendo can state that this is how they're meant to be played.
There really isn't a reason not to give a 2D option.
Red Alarm is just a mess however you play it.

Re: DK Challenge Event: Challenge Card List & Event End Date

Uncle_Franklin

I don't like how the SNES challenges are only on Switch 2.
I get having GameCube games exclusively on Switch 2,
but not having the SNES challenges on NSO for Switch 1 seems bizarrely meanspirited to me.
Like, these challenges are not going to entice me (or I suspect anyone) to get a Switch 2, it's just going to annoy me.
NSO members on Switch 1 are still paying for the service.
