As usual, the number of games coming out really picks up pace as we slide into the latter months of the year. September and October are looking packed, and there's still a bunch labelled "TBA 2026" which need to slot in somewhere. Some will surely slip into next year, but be prepared for more big names slotting into the schedule before the holidays.

August brings big hitters from the likes of Bethesda, Konami, and From Software, with September seeing a brand-new Onimusha, a couple of long-awaited ports, and two Switch 2 exclusives in the form of the co-op Orbitals and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Larvely!

Below, we've highlighted the most exciting Switch 2 (and 1) games coming in the next couple of months. You'll find more great games beneath our top picks, as well as a bunch of accessories.

New Switch 1 & 2 Games for August and September 2026

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered - August 11th (Switch 2)

The surprise here is that this is the full game on a real cartridge if you go physical, not the code-in-a-box that was previously announced. Hurrah!

We're looking forward to seeing if Bethesda can manage another port of Indiana Jones' quality on Switch 2 or if that was entirely down to MachineGames' magic.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Deluxe Edition (Physical) includes:
- Physical cartridge containing the full base game
- Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine story expansions
- Additional downloadable content: Fighter’s Stronghold, Spell Tomes, Vile Lair, Mehrune’s Razor, The Thieves Den, Wizard’s Tower, The Orrery and the Horse Armor Pack
- A code that grants access to Unique digital Akatosh and Mehrunes Dagon Armors, Weapons and Horse Armor Sets

EA Sports Madden NFL 27 - August 13th (Switch 2)

After so many years out in the cold, it's still a novelty to see Madden on a Nintendo system. Following on from last year's entry, EA is kindly waiting until the World Cup is over so we Europeans don't get our footballs mixed up.

Heads-up: This one's a Game-Key Card.

Run the league one decision at a time. EA SPORTS Madden NFL 27, powered by the all-new Persona Engine, transforms Franchise into a reactive, always-evolving league where every NFL athlete has a distinct, realistic personality that informs their motivations, demands and reactions. Gameplay gets physical with more precise control from authentic WR/DB battles, new short-yardage mechanics, defensive coverage improvements and new strategic pre-play settings and controls. Build your NFL legacy on a deeper progression path in the new Superstar G.O.A.T. Career Journey and control your roster with more customization with Ultimate Team Captains.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 - August 27th (Switch 1 & 2)

The second batch of Konami's Metal Gear Solid collections arrived bearing MGS4: Guns of the Patriots, MGS: Peace Walker (the HD Collection version), and — for anyone who buys the Collection rather than the previous two games separately — the Game Boy Color's MGS: Ghost Babel (just plain old Metal Gear Solid as it was known outside Japan.

This one is also a Game-Key Card.

Five years after the Big Shell incident, in an era where war has become a business due to the rise of PMCs (Private Military Contractors). To stop Liquid Ocelot's uprising, the legendary hero Solid Snake faces his final battle.

Ten years after Operation Snake Eater. While commanding a private military force in Colombia, guests from Costa Rica visit Snake. Accepting their request, Snake leads his men into confronting the conspiracy behind the East-West Cold War.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition - August 28th (Switch 2)

Kept you waiting, huh?... Hang on, wrong game.

Yes, following a delay from last year, Elden Ring is finally dropping on Switch 2. Not much to say, really. It's one of the games of the generation, finally on a Nintendo platform. Fingers crossed it's a quality port, because we already know the game itself is a bit special.

This edition includes the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC plus some customisation options for your horse. Hey, for $80, we'll take what we can get. Also, this is another Game-Key Card.

Though shattered, it shall guide thee. Though fractured, it yet calls. Enact thy will. Become Lord. Seek the Elden Ring.

Orbitals - September 3rd (Switch 2)

A fantastic-looking co-op and a Switch 2 exclusive, Jim Norman of this parish enjoyed his hands-on time with the game a few weeks back, so we've got high hopes that the final product is as engaging.

Grab a friend and launch into Orbitals, an intergalactic 2-player co-op adventure set in a wholly new retro anime world. Team up as Maki and Omura, two inseparable explorers with a whole lot more determination than experience. You’ll brave the perils of space in search of help for their crumbling station home, now trapped within a supernatural cosmic storm.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition - September 3rd (Switch 2)

Team Ninja's action RPG launched three years ago on other platforms, but Koei Tecmo is swinging around for another pass with the now customary Switch 2 port coming on an almost-as-customary Game-Key Card.

This went down very well on other platforms (our friends over at Push Square gave the PS5 version a 9/10), so fingers crossed the port is up to snuff.

Worldwide praise for the dark Three Kingdoms action RPG Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has resulted in the creation of a complete edition of the game, including all three DLCs with a wide variety of additional content, from new weapons, to new scenarios and characters, to new Divine Beasts.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword - September 4th (Switch 2)

Well into the second half of the year, and Capcom is still bringing the goods with a new entry in the celebrated swordplay series.

Capcom seems destined to pick up Publisher of the Year gongs across the board come GOTY season, with only its penchant for Game-Key Card releases over proper on-the-cart physical options rubbing fans the wrong way. Hopefully this will be another quality entry in the publisher's 2026 lineup.

Fight through bloodstained battlefields of intense swordplay action. Explore the historic Japanese capital of Edo-period Kyoto, twisted by malevolent clouds of Malice.
With every stage cloaked in mystery, danger and intrigue. Battle against monstrosities from the underworld known as Genma in a tale of dark fantasy.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave - September 17th (Switch 2)

Nintendo's first-party offering for September sees the return of Intelligent Systems' turn-based strategy series following 2023's Fire Emblem Engage.

The first entry on Switch 2, we've got very high hopes and we're intrigued to see how (or if) it makes use of the hardware beyond sharper, shinier visuals.

Worthy fighters from all over the land have come to Dagsion, the capital city of the Dagdan Empire, to compete in the Heroic Games for the chance to win one wish. Among the combatants are four heroes tied to the fate of the world. Whose fortune will lead them to victory?

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight - September 18th (Switch 2)

Launching elsewhere earlier in the year to positive reviews, it's been a long time coming, but we're still excited to see the Dark Knight return in Lego form to headline a game on a Nintendo console.

That's right - somehow, we got through the entire Switch 1 generation without a bona fide Lego Batman game!

Heads-up for a Game-Key Card.

Bruce Wayne’s journey from origin to legend as he trains with The League of Shadows, becomes the hero of Gotham City, and forges a new family of allies with Jim Gordon, Catwoman, Robin, Nightwing, and Batgirl. Confront an ever-growing threat from across Batman’s Rogues Gallery as you face The Joker, The Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Bane, and more.

More Upcoming Games for August & September 2026

As well as those picks above, there are plenty more Switch 1 & 2 retail games launching in the next couple of months (and a bit beyond).

Switch 2 Hardware Bundles

It's worth noting that a price increase on 1st September will add $50 USD / 30€ / £TBA to the price of a Switch 2.

Nintendo launched some summer hardware bundles which you might want to take advantage of before the price goes up: the Switch 2 + Pokémon Pokopia bundle in Europe, and the Choose your Game bundle (which includes Pokopia as an option) in North America.

New Switch 2 Accessories & eShop Credit

Finally, here's a selection of Switch 2 accessories coming soon, and our Switch 2 buyer's guides if you're looking for something in particular.

Remember, you can also buy your Switch eShop credit and games from the Nintendo Life store. Purchases made on our store also help to support the site, so thank you in advance!
