Re: Poll: Do You Want Weapon Degradation To Return In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Tober

Weapon breaking is part of the gaming loop of BotW. Therefore it works. We don't know though what game rules will change with TotK.

Example of one game rule that is already obviously changing is that it's not cold anymore high up. You don't see Link having red cheeks and puffing water vapour when being up in the sky in TotK. So temperature works in a different way in TotK, at least high up.

So could be that the gaming loop for exploration and finding stuff is different and therefore how to acquire weapons is different too. We will see, but important is that the mechanic does not work in a vacuum.

Re: Over A Third Of Devs Still Interested In Making Switch Games, According To GDC Survey

Tober

GDC is happening in San Fransisco. I think it's fair to assume mostly western developers, specifically North American based developers are attending the show. In this light it's not surprising for what platform they are mostly developing.

If GDC was happening in Tokyo and mostly Japanese developers would be attending, I think we probably would be at a higher than 18% cut for Switch.

Re: Random: US Customs Mauls 'WATA Certified' Copy Of Pokémon Yellow

Hand luggage or check-in luggage? I have so many questions.

Edit: Assuming this was at an airport. I found my check-in luggage opened and rummaged once when picking it up after landing. It had a note inside that said it was opened as a routine check and US customs was not liable for any damages that may had occurred.

Re: Ubisoft Share Price Tumbles After Dire Sales Report

As far as I know Ubisoft has like 20.000 employees. With that kind of size they should have a game out every month, but they are not for some time now. How hard this is for the people involved, yes I think Ubi needs to shrink in order to survive and concentrate on a few heavy hitters.

Re: 75% Of Public Comments On Microsoft's Acquisition Of Activision Were Positive

Tober

The game industry is volatile. New studio's and IP get introduced all the time. The thinking that an acquisition of a publisher leads to less choice for other platforms is a short sighted one, because even if so on a short term, it opens up possibilities for others in the longer term.

There is no guarantee that franchises like Call of Duty remain to be as relevant as they are today. Even now Activision had made it clear it wants to abandon the yearly release model.

Another example is World of Warcraft. Who would have imagined that Final Fantasy14 would steal its thunder 10 years ago? This industry is fluent.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Movie Voice Actor Keegan-Michael Key To Appear At The Game Awards

The Movie is coming in April, but it almost seems Nintendo is going through all it's marketing material to soon.

2 Directs with trailers, local TV commercials, toys at McDonalds in Japan and now this.

It all feels the marketing campaign was really scheduled for the Movie to hit this December, but somehow are not able to reschedule it.

Hope we aren't burned out by all of it before the Movie actually starts.

Re: Random: Sony Alleges That Microsoft Is Trying To Turn It Into Nintendo

@KevinP Apparently it was easier/cheaper for Sony to make a marketing deal with Activision. But if a tent pole FPS is that important to Sony, they should have been smarter about it and invest in their own IP.

What Sony is mostly afraid are the 32 million people buying online access on Playstation+ for at least $9.99 a month. You don't need that for God of War or Horizon, but plenty of CoD players pay that.

Re: Random: Sony Alleges That Microsoft Is Trying To Turn It Into Nintendo

There was a time when Playstation wanted to be a gaming solution for the whole familie with a broad range of games including younger players. From Playstation 1-3

But since Playstation4 they are walking away from the younger audience. The June and September State of Play's had zero games for anyone under the age of 10. It's subscription service is severely lacking any games for younger children, making it hard to recommend as a family service.

This was Sony's own decision to focus on (young) adults, they cannot complain now that they are in that situation now and depended on mature content.
