Re: Rumour: Placeholder Retail Listing Suggests Switch 2 Price Might Be Cheaper Than Expected

@jco83
Canada has Salestax not VAT. There are 3 variations:
GST: Government tax
PST: Provincial tax
HST: Compounded tax, meaning includes Government and Provincial tax.
Depending on the province these will differ. So there will be provinces that have GST & PST, others will have HST or a variant of that.

Important is that the sales tax is generally not included in the MSRP/advertised price. This is the usual with salestax countries. So CAD500, would probably not include it.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Tops Rolling Stone's 50 Best Games Of All Time

the Rolling Stone article says "From 'Super Mario' to 'Grand Theft Auto,' these are the titles that have defined the culture"

You need to see it then in that perspective. It's not about if MK8 is better than MK64, but what it meant. I do agree a lot with the list like that. But that Ocarina or Mario64 is not on it is crazy, but I think they just wanted to have one entry for each IP.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo To Lean On Third-Parties For Switch Support In 2025

@Serpenterror I agree it's unlikely Wind Waker and Twillight Princess will be bundled. They have a different age rating after all.

You put Federation Force more likely than Samus Returns? Oh come on

It would fit to launch Samus Returns after the Switch2 is already out to have history repeat itself!

@Reztobi Here you go:

https://gonintendo.com/contents/20211-zelda-tears-of-the-kingdom-uses-the-same-game-engine-as-splatoon-3

Google is your friend. The only other game using BotW game engine is Ring Fit Adventure by the way. But you can google that too.

As an expert game developer you are obviously aware that game engine has nothing to do with the game's art direction. Wind Waker and Twillight Princess use the same game engine as example.

It's all about memory allocation and TotK needed this new engine to make Ultrahand and it's nuts and bolts mechanics to work.

You might have also noticed new textures all over the place even for things like dirt roads. Let alone all the caves and such. And new animations like how Link now looks down when standing on an edge. Let alone that even familiar looking monsters all have new animations.

The idea of TotK was to invoke a Deja Vu for BotW players, but actually change things up a lot. It's all in the details. The only place where the map is looking 90% the same is opening the Purah Pad and look at the map that way.

@Reztobi I congratulate you on your game development expertise. I was surprised you did not mention that Tears is build on an entirely new game engine compared to Breath of the Wild. Some "DLC" to pull that off! That new game engine was needed obviously because of the new game mechanics to work in the first place. And if you think 80% of assets was the same, you were clearly not paying attention. Perhaps you should look at some comparison video's. There are plenty out there in the wild.

Re: Feature: From Piston Hurricane To Today: Why Latinx In Gaming Exists

Tober

@Pandaman It's not semantics if it enrages your readership as is obvious from the comments here. It's perceived as deeply offensive mainly because it's a word invented not by the Latino community, but forced upon them.

I hope NL has the sensitivity to not brush the feelings from your readership aside with 'just semantics' and does the right thing in correcting the article.

"It was a long time coming before the game got a Famicom cartridge release in Japan (1994, to be precise)"

Sure this was 1994? I mean after A Link to the Past? I did not know this.
