Several weeks ago, Nintendo announced that it would be lifting the lid on complete details surrounding the upcoming Nintendo Switch, with matters such as pricing, games, and release dates all being discussed. Afterwards, there will be some hands on demo sessions taking place around the world in which the public will be able to try it out. The date was known form the initial announcement — it'll be taking place on 12th January — but now the exact time has as well.
The presentation will be livestreamed from Tokyo worldwide at North America: 7pm PST / 8pm MST / 9pm CST / 10pm EST - UK/Ire: 3am GMT - Europe: 4am CET / 5am EET - Asia/Oceania: 12pm JST / 11am AWST / 2pm AEDT. You can watch the livestream form the Switch's official site here; naturally we'll be live blogging and hosting the stream here on Nintendo Life, too.

Friday the 13th😱
In the middle of the night... poor NL staff
It would be great if you could provide a spoiler-free link to the video for us sleepers to watch it in the next morning.
But I thought Tokyo was 9 hours in front of the UK so shouldn't that be 11am on 12th January?
@azelf Yeah, but the time above is for America, not Tokyo
That's Friday the 13th. Unlucky for some. More specifically us in Europe. That's 4 in the morning. Ouch! Europe as ever in the foremost thoughts of Nintendo. Still, I'll be there, bright eyed and bushy tailed.
I get up at 5.30 on work days. Will definitley be getting up earlier to watch this. I'll place a pre-order on any special editions if they become available immediately after the broadcast. Hoping for Zelda BOTW + amiibo bundle.
Hey, neat. Australia gets something at a reasonable hour.
3pm Friday here down under.
I'm expecting this to be more informative than exciting/hype-inducing.
@azelf - yep, I was thinking the same. Looks like someone's made a boo boo in the article.
Well, Friday 13th was the day my daughter was born. A lucky date for me.
Nintendo asking to stay up until 4am. They are really no longer targetting the 10 years old
Got an important presentation on January 13th so I had feared I might be missing it. But 5 AM is a perfect time for an early bird like me.
4am!?!
That's fine with me... I don't have work that day.
I was actually afraid I would not be able to watch the live presentation, since I have my last exam of this term on the 12th, but this fixes the issue. Looks like I'll be setting the alarm (and the coffee maker) for 4am!
Oh, crap! I have to go to school that day... And my parents won't allow to me to watch it so early.
Yeah, I'll be watching the replay, not getting up at 4am!
Just booked the day off work so I can get up early to watch
I'll be watching it all on Friday afternoon then.
4am!? Looks like I'm going to be tired for work the next day :/
It's this, or the Paper Mario TTYD run on AGDQ it seems.
Hmm.
@sandman89
Don't be afraid with such a superstition like that. I'm sure regardless 13 or not it will be same as normal day.
Ahhh glorious 4am, I suppose it is our turn to get up early for once. Ive actually been surprise at how reasonably timed the last few announcements have been for the UK and Europe
If Tokyo = 20.00, that means Surabaya (East Zone of Indonesia) will be 18.00
I can't wait to watch nintendo Switch presentation LIVE while eating my dinner.
@GammaPhonic Same here! I'm sure it will be worth it!
4am? Looks like I'll grab an early night and set my alarm for that.
Does it really matter when it releases? It's not like if you miss it for a few hours you won't be able to see it. Behold the miracle of the always on demand tinternet.
Well the 13th will be a busy day for me! Have a midwife appointment in the morning, tickets to the Russian ballet, performing Black swan, in the evening and now I've got to be up at 4AM to watch this.....
Nintendo Life at it's Australian hating worst. It's not hard to add in the Australian times. But we all know Nintendo life hate Australia with a passion. Disappointing. At least we can be happy that Nintendo care for all regions (including Australia).
I hope Nintendo Life does the right thing in the future. Not being against one of the major Nintendo regions.
4am?! I'll be there!
4AM... Now to get up early or stay up late
11 PM for me! I have a 9 AM class the next morning but as long as I go to bed shortly after it's over I should be fine. Can't wait to crack open a few drinks and watch this event!
6:00 am in Greece, so waking up won't be much difficult
However for us Tuesday the 13th is the unlucky day... which is today.
@the8thark
3pm aedt if you didn't know
So that will be 5.00 (we don't need the am) in Central European Time.
That day I also have an important lesson, but I could sleep in the train to regain the 2 hours I lost.
@shaneoh I know. I saw the facebook message.
Thanks for sharing it though so everyone here can see.. You're doing what Nintendolife did not. Thank you so much.
I love games and I love Nintendo, but I'm not getting up at 4am to watch a games reveal! If I watch it when I wake up then there hasn't actually been any extra conscious waiting time.
"it'll be taking place on 12th January"
Actually, it's taking place on the 13th, if it's a Japanese broadcast. But the 12th is the 'real' date because that's when it's on in NA, right?
@IceClimbers If this was a few years ago, I would have agreed with u. But, given resent events as far as how Nintendo has been spreading the word for future products, I think it'll be very exciting. It seems as if Nintendo has learned their lesson when it comes to hype. The Olyimpics, E3's Zelda booth, the Switch announcement video, Mario's appearance at Apples event, the recent Direct with the 3DS announcements, Jimmy Fallon...I'm excited! Hopefully they will have learned a lesson about getting enough hardware out their and have enough to accommodate demand. This actually feels like it will be the "megaton" announcement post that used to make the rounds around the net back in the GC and Wii days when Nintendo would tease an upcoming huge announcement. I don't think will be getting Wii Music or Pacman vs. levels of "excitement" after this.
Well, there's their chance to help eliminate the doldrums of one very bad year right off the bat. Between its potential and the release of the entire Kingdom Hearts series on PS4 they have the potential to outdo an entire year in just the first four months of 2017.
Here's hopin'.
@Anti-Matter it's not going to be broadcast at 8pm Japanese time, but 8pm US time. The wording in the article is a bit confusing.
Guess I'll get all the information the next morning on my way to work
They couldn't have waited a day for everyone working/going to school? I get up at 6:00 am to go to work, an 11:00 pm presentation doesn't help me. Now if it was 11:00 pm on a Friday night instead of a Saturday night, that'd be more convenient.
11 PM on a school night? Here's hoping we get a snow day on Friday.
4am is fine for me. Yay sleeping disorders!
Friday the 13th on a late night.... sounds like a perfect time to announce Luigi's Mansion 3...
11pm eastern is reasonable. Sorry U.K., it seems like one of the three regions always gets the worst time.
I'm in GMT+1, but still...
5 o'clock on a friday morning?
Not going to happen. Will have to watch it later. Gon b gud.
4am? Will have to be an early night and early wake-up, if I can sort shifts to try to accommodate. Otherwise it will be catch-up later on for me.
There's no way I'm missing this. I always love hanging in the livestream with fellow people here. However, the 4am time means that I'm gonna needs lots and lots of coffee.
11pm? Ugh that is kinda late. I may have to catch the recording of the broadcast.
Not staying up that late. I will just wait until the morning to catch up on this. Not really all that excited for it to tell you the truth. I won't be getting it until a year or so after launch anyways.
Awesome. Thursday and Friday are my days off work, so I can easily catch up on sleep at other points. 4 AM also feels like it'll make it more reasonable for actual fans to get there pre-orders in before scalpers.
Curious timing. I rather enjoy the mid-day presentations with the treehouse to follow for hours. But I guess at 11PM here in the NYC area, you can grab the undivided attention of the 20-50 year olds who are still awake.
Actually, 4am is quite nice. I won't watch it live but I can watch it as soon as I'm up and won't have to wait until after work.
Thank you, Nintendo, for a time that doesn't coincide with school! 👍
Blast. Its going to be 1AM here in Chile, and I've got to get up for work at 5.30. I'll have to see if I watch it...
Was it so hard to make the announcement a Friday afternoon instead of Thursday?!
That's 11am for me. Perfect time really.
I'll probably have to wake up earlier. That's insane, 4am?!
Perfect timing. What else am I going to be doing at 4am?
4am?!? Well I guess that gives the NintendoLife staff time to put together a load of analysis articles for me to read over breakfast
@Ethan_Bricknell lucky duck! 10:00pm. On a school night. Probably during midterms.
That sucks for you Europeans. 11:00 pm is a nice time for me.
4am on a work night... sods
11pm on a school night, but I think I'm willing to sacrifice some sleep. Given the Switch reveal's time I would have thought this would air earlier. Glad I can still watch it live!
@CB85
Eh?!
So that means 8pm , 12 Jan 2017 on USA = 13 Jan 2017, 8 or 9 am on Indonesia (Eastern Zone) ?
Hm.... I might sneak up during working hour at my school...
Or better waiting for Encore on Youtube.
Oh, Nintendolife. Could you please recap the Live Streaming of Nintendo Switch presentation so I can watch the Encore anytime ?
9pm.... Tsk. It'll be like watching a late night show... and I dunno whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.
@smashboy2000 orrrrrr they did it at a reasonable time for Japan, their homeland, with Europe being the territory they care least about lol
I haven't a clue as to why people are whining about the time, it's being held in Japan for god's sake. It's not like they are about to hold 3 separate events, and you can always watch it when you crawl out of your pit. You aren't obliged to get up at 4AM, nor are you obliged to stay up late. That's on you.
I'll have lots of nintendo news to read when I wake up on Friday at 6am then.
Why does your article state 10pm ET (US), when the picture directly below that clearly states 11pm ET?
In the article it says 8pm MST but on the image it indicates 9pm MST.......WHICH IS IT? Either way is perfect for me. My kids go down to bed at 8pm and I'll be ready to watch! HYYYYPPPEEE
So the 12th was the America only date. 13th for the rest of the world.
11PM is good for me.
Works for me watching it as a VOD, because then if games I don't care for show up (BOTW being one of them), I can just skip past it and wait for the next one instead. I'm more interested in the console price and what the next iteration of Splatoon will be (provided they are going to show off one and not say it was just for PoC purposes), as that will be the game that decides whether the system is worth it for me (a good launch year lineup will also help). My Wii U was only used regularly because of Splatoon, I'm not into Smash, Mario Kart 8 was a big disappointment for me, and the rest of the games I own can't really be played over and over without getting bored of (NSMBU, SM3DW, Rayman Legends, Tropical Freeze etc.). In fact, the only games that stood out for me on Wii U were Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3 and Splatoon. The rest were either not as good as previous iterations, or too similar to them to say "Yep, I'm glad I have a Wii U" and feel like the console was worth it. Far too many software droughts, not enough killer app software and just in general a weak console. I'm not a Wii U hater, I'm just disappointed that it never reached its full potential, but it definitely left a bitter taste in my mouth and I am extremely wary of the Switch because I don't want to get burnt twice (hence why my hesitance about it, Splatoon could stop that though). The issue is that if too many people are going to take the line of waiting to purchase one, it'll do a Wii U and lose 3rd party support in 6 months again, and like it or not 3rd party support is key for console purchases, even if the games don't stand up to Nintendo titles.
Throws a kink in my plan. Had taken the day off and was going to watch in a GameStop parking lot in case they announced preorders after the event.
If they announce preorder date now during event, and they'd almost have to, it'll be borderline impossible to get a preorder.
If I have the power to wake up at 7 AM on Friday, that would be good, because that's the event time in my country.
3am that's fine with me, with my funny sleeping patterns I'll probably be awake at that time but I'll put all the details on my calendar 😎
Wait.... What? I have to stay up until 10 P.M. CST to hear the details, 10 P.M.??? That just doesn't make sense.
FINALLY, one of these presentations is at a time when I'm not at work! 9 PM is perfect.
I feel sorry for EU fans, though. I wouldn't be able to concentrate well in the middle of the night like that.
NL. The presentation will be livestreamed from Tokyo worldwide at UK/Ire: 3AM GMT,
Nintendo UK ✔ @NintendoUK
Visit our website on 13/01 at 04:00 am GMT to watch the #NintendoSwitch Presentation live!
SO GUYS WHY IS YOUR TIME AN HOUR OUT AND THE SAME HOUR OUT IN AMERICA????????????????????????
Let me correct that for you: 04:00 CET. No good reasons to enforce US standards I'd think. Next we'll be converting foot to meter... This is a British site, isn't it?
@AxxLex Actually, if you go to Nintendo's European Twitter site it actually says that the Switch event will be streamed at 5AM CET as CET is GMT+1.
Just wanted to let you know in case you were interested and hope this help you :+).
Letsee... January 12th is...
Oh for god's sake, you couldn't even give us a Friday!
I won't be watching the livestreamed, eventually the news will come to me afterwards.
Guess some people will be losing a bit of sleep over this.
Could be wrong here but I just checked on several time converters and UK time would be 3PM not 3AM.
I was all set to sign off from working that day so I could watch it live, but I guess I don't need to now. Nintendo, you're weird sometimes.
@Kimite Thanks, that's very helpful
@NL: Why are the times stated in the article one hour previous to both Nintendo UK's tweet and the times mentioned in your other article at the link below?
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/12/talking_point_nintendo_will_rely_on_switch_word_of_mouth_due_to_strange_presentation_timing
This article: "UK/Ire: 3AM GMT, Europe: 4AM CET / 5AM EET, North America: 7PM PST / 8PM MST / 9PM CST / 10PM EST, Asia/Oceania: 12PM JST / 11AM AWST / 2PM AEDT."
That article: "UK/Ire: 4AM GMT, Europe: 5AM CET / 6AM EET, North America: 8PM PST / 9PM MST / 10PM CST / 11PM EST, Asia/Oceania: 1PM JST / 12PM AWST / 3PM AEDT"
