Nintendo may be keeping its cards close to its chest when it comes to Switch software, but indies are already announcing their intention to support the forthcoming console, which launches in March next year.
Yesterday we revealed the promising Seasons of Heaven, and today we've got another upcoming Switch title by the name of The Sacred Hero, which, according to developer Simplistic, is "a unique adventure game that twists the conventions of the RPG genre."
There's not a lot to go on besides some stirring music and a rather jerky frame rate, but composer Ruven Wegner - better known as Music Proposition - explains that the project is still in the very early stages of production:
The game is super-early in development, but the director and graphic designer [have] huge plans for it. First, it was set as a Retro-2D RPG for PC only, this trailer was just the announcement for me working as the composer and the step from 2D to 3D. There are now many new approaches for the game in terms of artstyle, worlds, story and gameplay, so stay tuned for more information next year.
The Sacred Hero is expected to arrive on PC and Switch in 2018.
Thanks to SLIGEACH_EIRE for the tip.

There's not really much to comment on, but it's great to see the Switch being supported.
From the little imagery in the teaser, it reminds of Zelda quite a bit.
Though the trailer doesn't show much, at least it's another game on the way.
Nice. I totally thought for a sec this article was about Zelda when I saw the pic without reading the title. Moreso because they apparently used Twilight Princess' Ordon Sword in this trailer. XD
Hmm, it's too early for me to make any judgements really although I can say that it looks nice and I liked that sword in the stone opening. 😂
Between this, Seasons of Heave, and Breath of the Wild, that's a lot of forest and grass on Switch.
@Pod Don't forget Pikmin 4.
I thought it was an exclusive...
That was terrible. The way the camera stuck to those 2003 looking trees for ages was awful. How is this teaser supposed to do them any favours? Jerky framerate and rubbish textures. Doesn't appear to be anything worth looking forward to in that. And yes, a complete Zelda rip-off by the look.
@gcunit I hope people don't get confused and think this Gamecube-looking game is the new Zelda. These devs need to sort themselves out- steeling a sword from Twilight P, blatantly ripping everything from Zelda and doing so in a very unimpressive manor. Those trees and ugly grass remind me of Tiger woods 2003 on GC, sloppy.
This sounds very fishy... Just a music composer making a vague statement?
@Tsurii I haven't even watched this on YouTube. I'm a Zelda fan and it's very obvious.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Switch with Pikmin 4 skin ? LOL XD
Aw man...
The trailer was too short.
It just showed the underground with blade on the rock and the trees on the surface.
It's just great news that there will be another game on the switch.
I'm patiently waiting for nintendogs and nintendogs + cats for the switch
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I'm really hoping for that game to change it up a bit visually and mechanically.
While they are all great and they do look good, they look and play a little too much like the same game for me.
it's nice to see things happening fot the Switc but if you're going to release a simple teaser like this one please tune up the frame rate!
first impressions mean a lot!
Anything can happen 'till 2018. They did say it is a very early build.
It won't hurt to stay positive that the game will get better (and maybe we get a longer teaser).
For now, we can be glad that more and more games for the Switch are being presented, shows good support for a new console.
Its barely in development, its easy to understand why the teaser has so much problems.
They still have one or two years left, so I don't see why everyone is up in arms...
@Luna_110 cos it's a first reveal for a new game on a brand new console and it looks like a 3DS game at best. Sure they've got time to actually make a decent game but first impressions do mean a lot in this fickle world. Also it tarnishes the Zelda brand by being a blatant rip off and a poor one at that. I hope they end up with a great unique game that puts a twist on the Zelda action Adventure / RPG genre but in terms of generating hype and marketing they are starting on the back foot. I want to support devs and I will support devs that make good games. Hopefully they can actually make a decent game. More good games the better
So.... is that the Master Sword or no?
Interesting, but I'm not gonna get excited for it yet since we don't know anything about it.
@UK-Nintendo You mean "nintendogs + cats + fishes"?
@Kroko yea and horses in HD
More Switch support is great.
@FantasiaWHT It looks very like the Ordon Sword from Twilight Princess.
@gcunit 2003? I thought the trunks had an N64 quality to them!
If it was a launch title having to compete with Skyrim and Zelda this wouldn't do well.
Be interested to know what will make this unique.
Not much of a trailer, but I hope the finished product is good.
By the way guys, the developer said in the YouTube comments that the sword is just a placeholder. As quoted from the comments:
"EDIT: It has been noticed that many people are complaining about the sword being from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and the teaser including a low gameplay FPS. The sword has been used as a 'placeholder' due to the game's early development and we do not plan on using any content from other games or creators without their authorization to do so in the final game, especially Nintendo. Secondly, there is lag spikes in this teaser due to the game's early development and how it is not properly optimized yet. The FPS drops will lower as development continues. Thank You. "
People are so quick to judge again, yègh!
The comments about how the graphics look ranging from GameCube to N64 are completely ridiculous. You must have a VERY pink set of glasses to think that these systems would be able to pull that off...
Also, it's an aesthetic, not a graphic fidelity, so if that's the style they're going for, then let's wait and see how the product looks a a month or six down the line, when some work has been done on it.
If this game is ugly, then so are 9 out of 10 other indie games, using the very same simple graphics style, or another neo-classic look. Just think of all the pixel-graphics games, both in 2D and 3D. These must then surely also be ugly as hell, right?
Here's a couple of other, apparently "ugly, N64 style" games:
@KirbyTheVampire Thanks for adding that. Shows that they are at least committed to making the game better and taking care of the current issues.
I'll wait for gameplay before I judge...
But I'll at least mention that those trees looks like they were made from cardboard.
I call it now: There won't be many third-party retail titles on Switch. Nintendo hasn't learned a thing, AGAIN!
Whelp.. don't see much, but it looked good lol. Slightly off topic, but... I find it refreshing to hear more PC 3rd parties supporting the system that the usual console devs. It sends a strong message, however, I am still cautiously optimistic as I await the Switch and the ACTUAL software. Still good to hear good news once in a while for Nintendo.
@TossedLlama 30fps is the minimum framerate for games, actually.
question? how many games are exclusive to the pc and wiiu/switch combination? . this is the first one ever to me....
Looks like they barely started with the game. It's maybe a bit too early to promote it.. But good to know it exists I guess.
Ruven Wegner knows what's up with classical music! If he's the composer, I'm at least excited for the soundtrack!
@TossedLlama A steady 30fps, without drops, is what all developers aim for at the very minimum. 30fps is smooth enough, but any lower than 25 and the animation starts to look stuttered and somewhat nauseating.
@TossedLlama Well I grew up in the NES/SNES era and those games mostly ran at 60fps, which might come as a shock to you. Yes, when games went to 3D, games more commonly ran at 30fps and below (3D fighting games usually aimed for 60, though). I think OOT natively ran at 20fps. But yeah, it's neither acceptable nor what developers aspire for in today's industry. I'm sure the developers of this game haven't even begun doing any optimisation yet; the trailer looks super early and they probably just released it to build hype, because the Switch is all the talk, atm.
@yuwarite Not really a hype building trailer whatsoever, but I guess it gets the word out, at least. Who knows whether that's a good thing when it's such a bare-bones trailer, though. (Yes, I know it's early in development)
I think it shows promise! But I'm a sucker for RPGs, And adventure games in general... Can't wait to see more! (What little music was shown, I really liked as well)
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
First thing I noticed as well. Sword is almost identical.
