Re: Charles Martinet Explains How He Wants To "Maintain The Integrity" Of Mario

SykoMuffin

I appreciate Charles Martinet for keeping it wholesome. He won't sell out and advertise in the iconic Mario voice or say unsavory things. Respect. I don't think it's because Nintendo restrictions or anything.

I could understand him being recast because his Mario and Luigi voices were beginning to not sound so good, but Samantha Kelly and Deanna Mustard being recast was a weird decision and their replacements are not good at all. Daisy sounds afraid to yell when that was her iconic thing and Toad sounds like someone doing a bad impression on a Youtube parody. My best guess was that they became too expensive and Nintendo hired in house people they could pay peanuts. Kevin Afghani's take on the Mario characters isn't my favourite either. Maybe he needs more practice. Every game his impression gets a bit closer but it's still not there yet. He sounds stilted and not very natural, I don't think he could improvise in the voice quite like Charles could. It doesn't come naturally to him.

Re: Magnetic Joy-Con Sticks Already In The Works For Switch 2 Amid Fears Of Drift

SykoMuffin

I've had three sets of joycons drift on me on the original launch Switch, one of which had buttons stop working one day out of the blue. I swear I'm not rough with the controllers at all and I have small hands so I'm not vice gripping them! I've had PS1 and original GameCube controllers continue to work without issue even though I've actually abused them like crazy so it's clearly a Switch problem. The fact that this is a continuing issue on the Switch 2 with controllers that are way more expensive is unacceptable imo. Paying premium prices for MadCatz controllers is ridiculous.

Re: Poll: Switch 2 Battery Reportedly Lasting Under Two Hours With Mario Kart - How Is Yours Holding Up?

SykoMuffin

Glad I'm holding out for a revision. My launch Switch had a terrible battery life too. Battery life is important to me because I have a ridiculously long commute. The Switch 2's base model is pretty massive as well so the Lite version will hopefully be more portable if they make one. Not to mention I suffer from having tiny hands and have to buy controllers designed for children to play comfortably so a Lite version is a necessity for me XD

Re: Switch 2's New GameChat Feature Is Transcribing Bad Words

SykoMuffin

I mean, surely Nintendo knew people cussing was a possibility. XBox Live was a fun to place to learn all kinds of new words back in the day. If you add voice chat to a game, inevitably kids will start swearing at everyone. My only worry is that Nintendo will flip out about this tarnishing their family friendly image and crack down on censoring game chat. They're already listening in and watching through the camera which makes me all kinds of uncomfortable...

Re: Poll: So, Did You Order A Nintendo Switch 2?

SykoMuffin

I'll wait for the eventual ambassador program price drop, a second iteration where they iron out all the launch bugs, more first party games, and I'll get the Switch 2 in a Lite portable only format, assuming game prices go down from completely unaffordable levels because $120 CAD for a video game is a tad ridiculous. I don't want or need any accessories or Game Chat, so hopefully they remove the Game Chat button from future iterations. I also might buy games used. This would really just function as a souped up Switch 1 for me. Nintendo has been very vague about upgrades to Switch 1 games so I'll have to see how those work as well. I could afford the Switch 2 day one, but I'd rather wait it out. I've learned many lessons from buying the Wii U at launch lmao.

Re: A New Tomodachi Life Game Is Coming To Switch Next Year

SykoMuffin

I thought the Direct sucked up until that point but Tomodachi Life made it an instant 10/10. That was my favourite game on the 3DS, which is saying a lot because I had a disgusting amount of hours in New Leaf (which is still my favourite Animal Crossing). It's such a quirky experience you can't get anywhere else. It's like the Sims, but if they had autonomy.

Re: Banjo-Kazooie Composer Has "Zero Hope" For A New Entry

SykoMuffin

I managed to enjoy all the Banjo games (minus the GBA one, never played it). I'd be happy with whatever they come out with unless they make something completely unplayable, obviously. That doesn't mean they were all perfect. I have criticisms of every game in the series but overall they were enjoyable. Nothing is perfect.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Donkey Kong Country Returns HD?

SykoMuffin

@harrystein
When you first boot up the game, the loading times are a bit ridiculous but every subsequent time you play it the loading improves. It's really weird. Maybe it's just because I got my Switch on launch and it's a bit slow; idk. It's nearly Wrath of Cortex levels of loading when you first turn on the game (around a minute). After you play it for the first time, the load times are twice of what they were on the Wii. In the Wii, the game basically didn't load at all so I would say it's noticeable but not unbearable. I really only play it in handheld for reference.

Re: Poll: So, What Did You Think Of The Switch 2 Reveal?

SykoMuffin

I liked the reveal, but it felt a bit barebones to me. We saw the console, got some hints at its functionality, and saw one game. I would have liked to have known a little bit more. Perhaps what the home menu looks like when the console is turned on, one more game (or just a tiny bit more footage than what we got), and what some of the buttons do or what is new that we can look forward to. Overall, I liked it! To be fair the only way I could have disliked the reveal would be if they didn't do a reveal at all or showed zero gameplay footage.

Re: Nintendo's Punch-Out!! Series May Be Dead And Buried For Good

SykoMuffin

Perhaps this is just me coping, but I really doubt this rumour is true. It's giving the same energy as "my uncle works at Nintendo, trust me bro."

I loved Punch Out as a series. Every year that goes without a new entry is a punch in the gut for me. The NES version was one of the first video games I ever played in my entire life. All the characters are lovable, it's my favourite part. Bear Hugger is just the best, and I'm saying that as a Canadian. Even the worst offenders like Great Tiger have personalities besides their nationality. He has funny conversations with his clones and aspires to have a rap career despite lacking any trace of talent. They did research to make sure the characters speak their languages correctly. Piston Hondo speaks in a poetic dialect, introducing himself with what samurai would say before battle. That's a great touch! Again, I think it's done respectfully.

Re: Opinion: The Biggest Question Of The Generation: Er, Why Isn’t Nintendogs On Switch?

SykoMuffin

I would LOVE a new entry. I've been wondering where the heck the series has been for years. I hope we'll get a new one on the Switch 2 along with Tomodachi Life! Maybe a dual release with one having dogs and one having cats. I feel like Nintendogs plus Cats spread itself too thin trying to have two kinds of pets. The cats did nothing and the models were kind of uncanny valley. I don't have the money or time to care for a real pet so a virtual one would be great. Nintendo always puts in utmost care (or at least they did...) so a new Nintendogs game would be better than any imitators.

Re: Eagle-Eyed Fans Think They've Spotted The First 'Switch 2' Image In New Satisfye Trailer

SykoMuffin

We're so desperate for information because of the Nintendo radio silence. Seriously, they've been skipping loads of Directs lately and there's no huge upcoming games really besides DKCR and that Xenoblade port thing. Anyone can tell the Nintendo Switch 2 is getting seriously delayed. As for this "leak," I doubt its veracity. It just looks much too similar to the original Switch and I doubt Nintendo would confuse the casual audience by making them look so similar (like the Wii U situation).

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Top 5 Nintendo DS Games?

SykoMuffin

1. Flipnote (not really a game but it was my favourite thing to do on the system!)
2. Animal Crossing Wild World
3. New Super Mario Bros

Those are my top three! I also enjoyed the port of Scooby Doo First Frights. It was shockingly good and just generally fun despite it being a Scooby Doo game; they put way too much effort into it lmao. Super Princess Peach deserves a shout out as well.
