Re: Talking Point: Does Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Rollout Of Event Updates Make It Feel 'Incomplete'?

Stuffgamer1

Sure, the roll-out includes stuff that was already in New Leaf at launch, but that doesn't really bother me. It's the plethora of other improvements to the game that made New Horizons stand out, and I think they were right to focus on that stuff and patch Redd and swimming in later.

I DO wish they'd get a handle on event timing, though. Two weeks of getting unskippably pestered by Blathers about an event with one day of content was annoying, and filling out repetitive photo shoots to collect all the prizes got really boring after a week or so.

Re: Yooka-Laylee And The Impossible Lair Update Makes The Final Stage Easier To Beat

Stuffgamer1

My problem with the Impossible Lair was that its design is so contrary to the entire rest of the game. You play the game hoarding collectables to unlock Tonics, and being free to use checkpoints endlessly (complete with a Super Guide style "skip this hard part" option), then it suddenly throws this wall of bovine droppings at you and ruins it. No Tonics, no checkpoints, just deal with it. No thank you, say I. This update is long overdue as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Nintendo Expands The Switch Online SNES And NES Library With Four More Games

Stuffgamer1

@bro2dragons Come on, this is Nintendo we're talking about. They're meticulously quality testing every single retro release for no good reason. Also they probably have to pay third parties for licencing their games, so it's certainly not ZERO cost. Enough to justify this embarrassment? Hell no. But it's no good pretending these releases are that easy, even if they SHOULD be.

@Bass_X0 Oh sure, the same old thing us old-timer NLifers are WAY past used to. Only this time they're releasing random stuff that never hit VC before. Stuff with a fanbase even if the excitement over Shadow of the Ninja is anything to go by.

Re: Nintendo Expands The Switch Online SNES And NES Library With Four More Games

Stuffgamer1

Although the release schedule is PAINFULLY slow, I do appreciate getting games that were never released on any Virtual or Mini Console. I understand wanting the real classics, but they release those on everything and it can be a downer sometimes too. Yes, SMRPG should be on Switch. But I personally just played it on SNES Mini last year and would be disappointed to see it hit. Can't please everyone...

Re: Mario & Luigi RPG Dev AlphaDream Files For Bankruptcy

Stuffgamer1

Well...I bought and enjoyed both M&L remakes. But the market is getting more and more demanding, always so vocal about what "should" be made and what price is "right." BIS+BJJ fixes ALL of my problems with the original BIS and adds an enjoyable side mode, all wrapped up in a lovely audio/visual upgrade. I'll grant 3DS was probably the wrong platform in 2019, but it's a solid game and worth the asking price IMO.

Re: Ittle Dew 2 Removed From Switch eShop Against Developer's Wishes

Stuffgamer1

For what it's worth in the physical/digital debate, Ittle Dew 2+ is one of those rare games that went quite a long time without any patches at all so the base physical game should still hold up. That said, I apparently have a 695MB update on my SD card so they sure did SOMETHING eventually, long after I finished the game.

Nicalis has published multiple games that never got updates at all, although I now question if that was lack of need or just couldn't be bothered. Sigh

Re: Clu Clu Land Joins Hamster's Arcade Archives Range On Switch

Stuffgamer1

I've been waiting for this one since the Nintendo Arcade Archives line was announced. Why the HELL did it take so long?

Yes, I really like Clu Clu Land, and I feel the enhanced content (such as it is) and more importantly leaderboard support is worth a purchase. I am afraid the latter will be undermined by low sales though...

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Want Achievements On Switch?

Stuffgamer1

I got hooked on Trophies when they were introduced, and I was even one of those jerks choosing which games to play based on their inclusion when it wasn't yet mandatory. I also ground out totally unfun multiplayer in several games in the name of meta-completion. It was an unhealthy obsession, and I'm thankful Nintendo still hasn't adopted them as falling in love with my Switch finally pulled me away from all that crap.

So no, I do NOT want Nintendo adding that stuff in now. They rekindled my interest in gaming for its own sake...I would HATE it if they ruined that.

Re: Random: Switch Box Art Download Warning Receives A Makeover

Stuffgamer1

The box should be as ugly as the business practices which mandate it. I don't want to have to go out of my way to figure out which games are trying to screw up the entire point of a physical release. That said, this beats the NOTHING Capcom somehow got away with for the Mega Man X collections.

Re: German Publisher First Press Games Will Distribute Physical Releases For Switch

Stuffgamer1

I hate how most of these companies print a super small number to sell instead of doing open preorders like Limited Run. Couple that with numbered releases and collecting is simply too stressful for the super obsessive among us. As a result, I mourn any title I wanted to buy released by any company besides Limited Run because I have to pass for my own sanity.

Edit: Dang, there are even more companies doing this than I thought. It's way too easy to not even know a game you want came out on top of all the other issues.

I should clarify though...some companies I can work with. Fangamer isn't actually trying to be super limited of course. Special Reserve has entered the "open preorder" system and doesn't number releases.

As for people complaining about the prices... there's no way a small company could print and ship a few thousand copies of a game for the low eShop price and stay in business. The premium we pay is necessary for the product to exist at all. High volume is key to low cost, which is why it's so infuriating that Squenix and Capcom can't be arsed to do proper releases.
