As we already know, Nintendo has added three new NES games to its Nintendo Switch Online service this week: Double Dragon II: The Revenge, Volleyball, and City Connection. However, as it has done before, the company has thrown in a bonus game for good measure.
TwinBee SP, a revised version of Konami's classic vertically-scrolling shooter, is also included in the update. This version places you in level 6 from the start, offering a stern challenge for players. If you consider yourself to be a skilled TwinBee player, then this will surely be an appealing prospect.
Let us know what you think of this fresh take on an old classic by posting a comment below.

TwinBee is quite fun, that’s cool that it got an SP version. It’s quite challenging at Level 6 though lol
That's great and all, but when you said "surprise game," I thought you meant an actual new game and not just an SP version of a game we already had. ^^;
Surprise, surprise, surprise!!
They are trolling at this point - fully expected SNES at e3.
No excuse at this point.
SNES games please.
It will never happen. I have no more faith....
It's not trolling when they never made the expectation or said they'd ever do it. Time to get over it. When and if that ever changes you'll find out.
It's an alright selection, DD2 is great and that SP release of Twinbee is a nasty place to start bare if you're not already pre-powered up.
Nobody honestly cares
Perhaps SNES VC will come around the same time as the new Switch model, for no particular reason.
The NES games where the only reason i bought a yearly NOS subscription. Which i'm pretty much over now. So if Nintendo doesn't get on the ball a release Super NES games by November i'm not renewing my subscription
I realised the other day I’m still paying for this garbage, cancelled!
Another misleading headline... It's not a game, it's a easy version of one that we already have.
This service is still far cheaper than a nes mini.... what possibly is everyone complaining about.... entitled youth and or adults living in mom's basement.
This is not a new game just an existing game at a new save point.
Misleading title.
I was expecting snes to be announced too. Breath of the Wild 2 makes up for that, and pretty much every other mess Nintendo have ever made though.
Nothing to see here.
Perhaps they are reluctant to switch (hah) over to snes games as collections like secret of mana, contra and castlevania (which include SNES games I think?) keep coming out?
I'm looking forward to Volley Ball.
Sorry everyone keeps hyping themselves up for anything other than NES games, on a service that isn't a year old yet no less.
@Tangerine Between those collections and the ACA games, there's tons of classics! There's really alot more choice than folks are painting
You mean people @sixrings like the ones' who call people names like entitled and insinuate that your a loser because you live with your parents? Yea i'm not a big fan ether.
@Moroboshi876 I can assure you it IS a game 😂
@SBandy Where in the title does it say "new game"?
Is it that hard to imagine that people feel a bit mislead with a title like: “Nintendo throws in a surprise NES game” and eventually it is a game we already have, but now at a certain savepoint? Ofcourse they are not lying, didn’t mention the word “new” but come on…. "Another stealth release".....
@sixrings You say that as if anybody has complained about the price, the selection of games are what 99% of complaints are about.
Also considering the majority of Nintendo fans and Nintendolife readers are under 18, your comment about people living at home is straight up bizarre.
When did we last get an update that didn't come with an SP game?
Well then no one got my sarcasm. I hate this service. Sorry if I offended anyone. Now I'll suffer being called a Sony fanboy or not a true nintendo fan by the defenders of all things nintendo.
Nintendo online is 20 bucks! Seems like a pretty sweet deal to me!
it is not fun nah
boring! the only thing missing from yesterdays nintendo e3 showing was word of when we will be getting something that isnt nes based for the subscribers
It only just now occurred to me that SNES or any other console, was not announced for NSO at E3. Kinda bummed about that.
@Tangerine
It will likely happen as people have been when the subs reach their first year in September. Publishers opting to put out collections of NES/SNES games is a complication to them but not enough to impact them releasing 2-3 a month a year for each system.
@lemonjellydude
They’ll want to avoid talking about it until it’s ready to launch thinking that people will wait on subscribing if they announce SNES is coming in a couple months. I also suspect that they might charge a fee for playing NES to new subscribers after SNES launches so that might play into them keeping quiet until the last minute.
@sixrings
Because they are rentals! You could buy them and keep the games you want forever if they implemented the account system like they should.
Not to mention if you don't play online then why should you subscribe? I subbed for one month just to play the nes games and only ended up with 2 weeks of actual game time since you have to check in every week. So what happened was I subbed and on Saturday night it wanted to check and I couldn't get access to Internet for a week until the next Saturday. Then when that week was out BAM it happened again. I could've just bought the games I didn't own on vc and transfer my others to switch if they had any sense!
@Faucet stop already with "but is just 20 bucks, its cheap!!". At this point is not about the (inexpensive) price really. They could give us FREE nes games and we will still ask for SNES games too.
I'm sure they are waiting for the first year of the service to finish before annoucing SNES games for people to renew their subscription....
@Damo
Are you really saying "surprise NES game" doesn't imply new?
They seriously need to let us create folder man, there's way too many easy versions now that most of the time I had problem distinguishing them from the normal versions at the menu. C'mon Nintendo a minor feature like that should be considered.
Lol "surprise" yeah, just what we need after a huge Direct, boring anticlimactic NES games
@SBandy "Surprise" and "New" have two totally different meanings, yes.
I actually cancelled my subscription 1 month ago, I dunno if I'm going to renew it for 3 months only for Mario maker 2, still thinking about it, cause I see no advantage for it, other then playing Mario maker, I already stopped playing splatoon 2
@Xaritah I'm in the same boat. I have completely stopped playing splatoon and would likely be only subscribing for mm2. They are bundling a subscription in with a version of mm2 making it enticing. But really I feel like I'm just having to pay a premium price to play one game. Tbh I bought live for years to play cod. That felt different. I could play cod 2 hours a day everyday. I have no intention of playing mario maker that way. I just want to weekly be able to download new courses.
@BensonUii The game was a surprise - as in, no one knew it was coming:
"Surprise
noun
1. an unexpected or astonishing event, fact, etc."
How is that clickbait? If I'd have included the name in the title, I'd get complaints about ruining the surprise for people.
You really need to look up what clickbait actually is.
Who cares at this point.
@Damo Come on. They've done SP versions every time; it's not surprising. The headline said they added a game. They didn't add a game; Twinbee was already on there. They added a savestate for a game, which is what they've been doing the whole time.
And the "i didn't want to spoil it" argument doesn't hold any water either considering the header picture for the article shows the game.
@Damo Would you go to a friend's birthday party and be like "Surprise! I got you a roll of paper towels!" and when they're like "Isn't that the roll I had hanging up in my kitchen five minutes ago" you go "Well I didn't say it was new!"
@Adamario What a dumpy birthday present that would be, assuming the person had enough paper towels already. Now it's something else entirely, if they needed it. Overall, the thought that counts.
I wish they would put stinger on the nes app. Otherwise twin bee is a fun game
Easily the worst NES update so far. Bummer month.
Wow, what a surprise! Glad I clicked on the link to this article.
This is not a "surprise game," it's just another darned SP. Knock it off with the clickbait, NLife.
The real problem with Nintendo Online is the we are being force fed games that are a mix of popular games, retreads of already issued games and a slew of sub standard games. We used to be able to pick what we wanted, more or less, and it worked out much better. I am not complaining about the price but what we get really does not justify service. If they add SNES games then, for me, it will be worthwhile. Otherwise I am canceling mine after it is up.
@PorllM I actually believe the majority are probably over 18. Maybe back in the day it was a lower demographic, but I think that the demographic for nintendo is much higher than it used to be.

@Damo - Stop being disingenuous, it's a misleading headline and you're just digging your own hole by trying to defend it.
Really wish they would put the Tiny Toon Adventures game out! That was one of my favorites when I was a kid.
I'm no fan of sp games. They should make new levels with the same mechanics and gameplay to give new life and more value to sp. Even smb1 remix with new colors.
@VmprHntrD They literally said the library would have snes games wut
@dalekman9999 Noooo, fanboys reported that. One data mining snoop last year went digging into the Nintendo Network and tagged a list of SNES games from them and a few From Konami and Capcom, but that's it. When asked Nintendo had nothing to say, and ever since the network popped up with NES games on Switch they've never said they were adding SNES at all.
@VmprHntrD Im not talking about last year. When they first announced the online service they announced that it would get be a library of nes and snes games.
@dalekman9999 I'd like to see proof of that sourced from Nintendo because I don't recall any promises other than the NES. Not calling you a liar, but I really don't have the time to go digging right now and am only popping in to reply (I'm at work) because of email notification.
@Damo Surprise! This month, we've included Mario Bros. to the lineup. It's been there since the start, but you didn't know that it would still be there this month, so you're surprised!
I have to be honest. Maybe I'm just being a spoiled brat, but I'm kind of over these releases. At the rate, we wont see a SNES or N64 online on this version of the Switch.
We should already be at N64 or Gamecube.
I'm not saying we should get those for free with the online subscription but we could buy them.
Next year, when the new generation of consoles come out, the Switch could quickly turn obsolete and irrelevant (zero chance for any ports of new games).
So unless we'll be able to play our already bought games on Switch 2 (the other consoles will be backwards compatible), Nintendo's weird paid online service+retro games monster will die before it has ever reached its potential...
