To celebrate the arrival of Darksiders Genesis on the Nintendo Switch this month, THQ Nordic decided to send our lovely senior video producer Alex Olney the rather large Nephilim Edition of the game. You know, the one that's limited to 5,000 units. Surprisingly, it's not even the largest thing he's been sent before. That title goes to the ludicrously oversized Layers of Fear: Legacy painting.
As for what's in this latest limited edition, it includes the game, a steel bookcase, a 9-inch Strife figure, an artbook, stickers, soundtrack and the official board game titled, Darksiders: The Forbidden Land. Below is a graphic of all of these goodies, but we encourage you to watch the video above to get a closer look.
How much does it cost, you ask? A whopping $379.99 / £349.99 / €358.54 on Amazon – that's more than a Nintendo Switch. If you're at all interested in it, at the time of writing there are still copies available in both North America and Europe.
If you're not so keen on forking out this much, you can always opt with the much more affordable Collector's Edition. It includes everything but the board game and is priced at $119.99 / £109.99 / €113.22 on Amazon. A standard copy of the game will set you back $39.99 / £34.99 / €24.31.

£240 for the board game? Insane!
There is nothing to justify that price
I guess the statue + board game + game are why it is so expensive?
When I backed Divinity Original Sin 2 I got a Statue that was very detailed as well but that was only $150, not $380.... LOL
That’s just madness
@jarvismp
Seen even more expensive games.
That Saints Row Gold edition for example.
Slightly off subject. The bible references 4 horsemen of the apocalypse but I believe only specifically names one of them, death.
Ohhh... it's so reasonably priced I may be 4 or 5 copies. Which would probably double the number of sales this edition will have!!
Hello @Liam_Doolan! What about your Non-UK readers? I bet they would love to see a €-price tag
Worth absolutely nowhere near what they are asking for, not even close. Ridiculous doesn't even begin to describe this and I love a collectors edition.
@mazzel nah he voted brexit
The Standard CE release is all I need. To pay more to just have a Board Games is just a waste.
£24 I paid for standard. That’s about right. Nothing about the series deserves a console priced special edition
The original THQ was bankrupt in part by their over ambitious special editions. Would like to see THQNordic... not do that.
Also hey lovely person, any plans on reviewing this here game?
I like grabbing the occasional Collector's Edition, but IMO that's ridiculously overpriced. Thing is, I'm sure it'll sell out between collectors and diehard fans.
I've never seen a stamp or a painting or a coin or even a videogame that were purposely made "for collectors" that actually ended up in somebody's real collection.
Unfortunately they'll keep on making silly "collector's editions" from scratch as long as they find paying people. The good part is that nobody's required to buy them.
I managed to snag this bad boy for barely over $200 combining percentage discounts on video games. Still hilarious to me Best Buy actually let me do it.
I remember buying these collectors editions at 80-90% off on sale. I have loads of these bought for cheap at Gamestop, Platekompaniet, Spaceworld and CDon.
@Ventilator I wonder why
As an American, I have to ask, what the hell is "naught point three one hundredweight? We use pounds and ounces not whatever that is.
What a complete waste of money
We play a lot of table top games. Getting a fully painted set of minis is very expensive. While a standard game set of that gender would set you back £80~£100 painted would exceed £300 every time. So I guess its value would depend on the quality and play ability of the tabletop game itself. I had my sons Galactic Assault plus a couple of expansion set figures painted as a gift a while back and it cost far more than this collectors set. But that is a highly rated game, so has some value.
A standard copy costs €24.31? Why a random number and why so much less than the UK/US?
Holy cow how can that be worth more than the system? I think it’s way overpriced. How about just getting the game itself?
"There are still copies available". I bet there are!
I could never understand any hype behind this series.
@Gamesurfer The very high prices for low value content.
One of these collector editions i bought for cheap were a Call of Duty box which included a working 1080p Action Camera, SD card, Drink Bottle of metal etc.
@Ventilator love how grabbing for straws is the goto nowadays for false comparisons. The CE in this collection once gone isn't going to go on sale for that anymore. You make is sound like it will but doubt that would be the case here.
@Liam_Doolan I am going to send you my presents from now on so you can film them. You get the excitement of opening them and narrating it but then you have to send them back to me. Hehe
380$? The damn Titanfall Collectors Edition was cheaper with a massive artbook and that gigantic Atlas Titan, yet they think a 23cm cheapo statue is cutting it lol. I used to buy collectors editions for games i really, really liked. But back then i payd max 150$ and got a boatload of displayable stuff and a detailed statue.
Average series and an average game made by an average developer who pump out far too many games with little care for quality porting.
@SwitchForce This box won't go on sale, because physical is close to dead, and stores is mostly ignored because of that. Stores most likely only stock 1-2 on selected CE's, as that market is gone too. They now keep the price for as high as long as possible now.
Cheaper collector's editions which costs less than 100$ on release still gets dumped now and then as late as in 2020.
This Darksiders CE sold on out 3 systems at CDon, but Coolshop have them all in stock at this insane price.
I forgot. I bought expensive CE's for cheap there too earlier, but lately they don't dumpe the price as often anymore.
This Darksiders release. Someone must have mis-calculated this alot at THQ.
1 x Boardgame.. 150$. Most expensive boardgame?
1 x Figurine. 150$..Figurines like this costs around 50$ +/- at Gamestop.
1 x Game + CD + Art Book...~100$.
No matter how you look at it, they charge atleast 200$ too much.
Steelbook have no value as the market is oversatured with Steelbooks on both games and Blu-Ray movies because they are cheap to make.
Not bad value if the steel bookcase is a large one. Need a new bookcase for the spare room.
@BionicDodo First thing I thought when I read it! The picture cleared it up for me though.
Looking at the statue, it looks about like a 60 to, at most, 100 dollar statue. Compared to similar collectibles I've seen and bought in Japan.
@ AlexOlney
I miss your videos, for realz. Nothing against the new guy but I find you entertaining in a ridiculous kind of way.
I can get a much better “steel bookcase” for far less than that from Home Depot...
@Heavyarms55
Well its just a mold. Its not really worth 60 either.
Love how in the picture they List ‘Premium Box’ in the contents.
LOL, whoopdee fn doo.
To my understanding the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse in the bible (yes, all four are mentioned, it’s where they came from) the white horse with the king, the red horse of war, the black horse of famine/poverty and the pale horse of plague, with death following behind.
What utter nonsense, as are most special editions.
standard quality boardgame is about 40-50 bucks. With fancy miniatures around a 100. This doesn't make sense...the state of those miniatures paint job by the way, holy hell...
So where’s the review?
@BionicDodo I was thinking along the same lines... moving house in a few weeks and thought a lovely Darksiders bookcase would go nicely in the new games room!
How disappointed I was when I realised they meant ‘steelbook’. 😂
Would love a review of the boardgame it comes with. How it plays and such.
Not that I'll ever get it, just curious. Kinda wish they'd just left the figures unpainted to reduce the price. As it is I'd be stripping the paint off those and redoing them myself, they don't look great.
Think you've made a typo on the Euro exchange rate for the standard edition or I'd have snapped this up Day 1!
@Assassinated weirdly the sane definition of hundredweight is American - a short hundredweight is 100 pounds. The UK version (long hundredweight) is 8 stones or 112 pounds.
I'd guess the UK version is used here, so 0.31 hundredweight is about 35 pounds.
@GeeEmm I was gonna point out the same thing. Lmao. I'm suprised they didn't include the "premium packing foam" in the picture!
@Ogbert I would definitely be down for watching a video of some of the Nintendo life crew playing the board game...
@Ventilator Unfortunately once they are gone they are gone. Your drinking too much Koolaid here. If they don't make many you think the why have to sale in 2020. Go figure right. I'll believe that when I see it but so far most popular LE, CE rarely goes sale let alone you can find them at MSRP anymore. Take XenoBlade2 that even when sold out and selling what's left was still close to the sale price. So your logic of going cheap was tossed out. Guess drinking more Koolaid will make you feel better.
@SwitchForce You don't know the store culture here at all, so you are wrong. Explain to me how i managed to get over 30 big box CE's with figurines etc. on sale? Do you really think i paid 150-200$ on average for all of them?
Watch Dogs, Just Cause 3, COD Ghosts etc. dropped to average of 30 bucks from original price of 120-200 bucks.
Most of my big box CE's is on PC, Xbox One, PS3 and XBox 360.
Call of Duty Ghosts with real 1080p Action Camera, Season pass, Bottle etc. costed only 40 bucks on sale.
Bayonetta 2 First Print Edition (15.300 released worldwide) is among the few i ever got for Nintendo console. I had to pay 90 bucks for it on pre-order because it were sold out before release.

I think you need to change socks, because the smell don't make you think clear.
@Ventilator FYI Bayonetta Climax was the more expensive version everyone wanted to now cost $300 or more to get now. So you might want to relearn the culture resale system as well for Switch games. Notice how I talk about Switch games but keeps talking about PC(xbox) which not about that system. And Name Calling is the last resort of those on Koolaid here.
@SwitchForce You are the one with name calling, as i never do that ever. It's not my style. And WTF is the name calling Koolaid? Is it something a 9 year old invented?
I live in the county where new ting ages faster than any other country in the world. We even Black Friday (Green Friday) on spring every year, because everyone loves price dumping in my country.
Games get dumped in price on even Valentine's here. Shops here finds any excuse to clear stock whole year here. Like i said, you know 0% about the sale culture in my country.
Even Americans and UK people know why things ages fast here which result in stock dumping every month of the year.
I paid roughly the price of a Switch for the Rockman Zero / ZX Hero Collection limited edition that comes with the bust. I’m a big fan of that series, granted but this kind of high pricing is not that uncommon to be honest.
