@brooks83 Technically, the main villain in EarthBound was also a major player in the first game. Not in a way that's terribly confusing for newcomers (or less EB would've had an even tougher time in America 20 years ago), but still. Mother 2 had a subtitle: Giyig Strikes Back. That was changed to "The War Against Giygas" in America to avoid confusion. In both cases, it really only appears in the opening scene and not the proper title per se.
Now, EarthBound Beginnings is a VERY old-school game, and much harder to play through than EarthBound. If you're certain you're going to play them all and not give up, start with the first just to get it out of the way. The series only got better with each sequel, so saving the worst for later would suck.
@Technosphile: Everyone hasn't...it's also commonly known as EarthBound Zero, as the leaked American ROM was titled. I think EarthBound Beginnings is a good title...it also makes me think Mother 3 might get a new title when/if released here. That'd be interesting.
@KirbyKirbyKirby To be fair, they did cite a months-long development cycle to make new characters. If that's not total BS (when depending on their remaining team size it very well be legit), these characters would have been in development since before the ballot was announced. It would simply mean that more characters pertaining to the ballot are still to come...but only time will tell for sure.
IMO, these are both bad character choices for Smash (especially Roy...we don't need ANOTHER Marth clone!). But if they're serious about it, I guess it's whatever. At least Ryu will probably be an easier amiibo to find since they've been favoring third parties so much.
@manu0 As soon as I saw they were all men earlier today, I KNEW I was gonna see somebody comment on that sooner or later. I agree...it's sad that no women competed well enough to go on to the championship. But that's meritocracy for you.
I caught him around 20%...currently on Level 42 going for that Mega Startup at 50. It's still not really too hard with my team of Mega Gengar, Yveltal, Zoroark, and Absol, all max level except for a tiny sliver of EXP left to top off Zoroark. Then I can try those new main levels...
@Grumblevolcano If by "pointless" we mean "unquestionably lucrative because Mario still prints money," then you're right. Face it buddy, this release WILL sell more than any Fire Emblem would, and they know it.
@errantrazor Yes they do, actually. ESRB ratings are only valid for the platforms originally submitted, and re-releases require re-ratings. Which is sometimes a good thing in the case of older games that need new ratings to match the modern refined standards.
@Superryanworld And by "poor" we mean "literally non-existent." sigh Anyway, I doubt that situation exists solely because Mario outsells them...Mario outsells damn near everything, so it's a moot point. Really, the problem of Japan vs. America continues to stretch MUCH further than Squenix, as they currently have literally almost TWICE the total VC games we have according to this chart. All those PC-Engine titles and we don't even have Turbografx out West...WHY? They haven't said a word. Also for what it's worth even Squenix apparently hasn't had a VC release in Japan in almost a year.
I had no idea Capcom had actually patched BN2 to give away those chips...if they had any sense, they'd have ADVERTIZED that fact! I wasn't looking to buy games I can't actually complete, so this is kind of a big deal. Hoping for similar fixes for the series moving forward as well.
The three-hours thing is an insult to me, especially because I'm not available on any of those periods this weekend. Nintendo is telling me that I can try their game IF my life just HAPPENS to conform to THEIR schedule, and I find that absurdly patronizing. For my good will, they'd have been better off not doing this at all...but then it doesn't matter 'cause I already preordered the game and amiibo anyway and I'm not upset enough by this to cancel anything.
@BulbasaurusRex I was under the impression that this was a normal failing of using HDMI because the connected device is supposed to control the TV directly. I dunno, it sure does suck at any rate. There's also remappable buttons as another benefit to Wii U VC, of course. All in all, it's just something they should do...the good by all rights should overpower the bad in this scenario.
@BulbasaurusRex " Is it really that much of a hassle to boot up Wii Mode whenever you want to play them?"
Yes, yes it is. Know why? It's because the Wii Mode lacks the ability to fix the aspect ratio of the game. If I want to play a VC game in Wii Mode without it being stretched on my TV, I have to change from HDMI to Component cables so that my TV itself can do the aspect ratio work instead. It's a pain in the ass and you'll understand if I can't be bothered when I SHOULD be able to just buy the upgraded version.
I think it's awfully presumptuous of Nintendo to decide what platforms we want games from. They really ought to be picking good games regardless of system, and there are still PLENTY of great SNES titles left. Of course, the ongoing apathy from Squenix in the West even though they've been on board in Japan for well over a YEAR doesn't exactly help...
In the end, I think they'll still go back to SNES now and then because they just don't have very many platforms or all that many companies supporting it. They'll HAVE to just to get more content up at all.
There appear to be just five Pokemon in this event, as listed on the bottom of this list ATM. Word is some of these appear more often than others (I'm running into Carvanah entirely too often), and Sharpedo has a Mega Evolution so that's probably a priority catch. I'm just missing the two grass-types now, and I really hate not being able to even guarantee who I'm fighting.
@Pod I agree, yes! Twisted and Touched are the two best games in the series. I'm sure they COULD emulate the gyroscope with the GamePad's motion controls...but will they?
@Nintendo_Ninja The color varied by region for some odd reason. Our USA boxes were orange, but the one pictured is PAL.
@mjc0961 So negative, dude! Certainly, WarioWare is not for everyone, but it really is a fantastic series for some of us. I look forward to downloading it and seeing how Wii U handles DS games first-hand soon.
@XCWarrior To be fair I buy them for both the look AND functionality. My entire collection is open for that purpose. But since it's a dual approach, I definitely agree that I don't want lousy cards for the same functionality. But we should remember that replacing figurines was only one possible use of the cards...they could also develop a game that makes use of them like Eye of Judgement on PS3...only harder to copy thanks to NFC in the card.
Well...I'm stuck in an unusual situation here. I DID place my preorders before the cut-off date, but my GameStop closed last week and my reservations were all manually transferred to the other store in the mall. So now I wonder if they have my original order date in the system or if I'm going to be screwed due to no fault of my own.
@TobiasAmaranth: Doesn't make much sense to squeeze out a tiny patch for that now with the major patch coming so soon. We can manage until then.
Now...max level raised AGAIN? Good grief, my highest is still only in the 120's! Of course, gameplay momentum slowed down here recently...a problem I hope to rectify soon.
We did already see Rosalina and DK in the Mario Party 10 amiibo trailer a couple weeks ago, actually...since then, I've just worked on the belief that they were DEFINITELY coming in a future wave. Nintendo wants to sell amiibo anyway, right?
Breath of Fire is actually the SNES version? I thought that couldn't happen because Squaresoft handled localization back in the day. And I actually WANTED the GBA version because the menus are better designed!
I think that given resolution differences (the Wii footage looks clearer in this video than it would on my TV), things should balance out quite nicely.
We FINALLY get Game & Watch Gallery 3! About damn time. Mappy Land is a nice surprise too, as a relatively obscure nostalgic title for me. And of course, Hyrule Warriors DLC at last. Great week for me, and I find it funny how that so strongly contrasts the opinions of the first two commenters today.
Approaching 200 hours on the game, and we only just finished the first two Adventure maps and moved on to TP. Problem is there's a HUGE difficulty leap between Master Quest and TP, and now we're facing down a buttload of grinding to stand a chance there. Unfortunate side-effect of using co-op for the whole game, which makes things easier so you grind as you go less. Many of our characters are still around level 70, which is NO GOOD on TP, let alone MM I'm sure.
Also...anybody know if the title update will hit before the pointlessly delayed DLC in America? I wanna delete some skills, dangit!
Since my Wii U's Wii disc drive is broken (doesn't recognize Wii discs, but Wii U discs work just fine), it's actually CHEAPER for me to grab the best games at $10 each than to get the system repaired (Nintendo wants $175). So this is actually PERFECT for me, especially with it reading existing save data! Please release Fortune Street this way, Nintendo!
If this is all-inclusive instead of FTP (which it sounds like it is), I'll probably get it when/if it releases in America. Here's hoping Nintendo thinks the Mario brand is enough to interest us (because it totally is)!
I'm totally in that completionist group on this one...I grew up playing both versions, but I was holding out for the added features of this one. As soon as I saw it release in Japan some months ago, I was just waiting for NOA to catch up, and I'm very happy they did.
Of course GameStop hasn't been having these problems. Preorders are a MAJOR element of their business, so they know what the hell they're doing with them. Even Best Buy has a relatively decent amount of experience from what I can see. TRU and Target are both obviously clueless, though. I can say from personal experience that Target was clueless TEN YEARS AGO. Sad they haven't worked it out in that time.
Dang...and here I thought I was doing well with 4,573 points. Of course, I didn't buy a lot of eShop games or download retail (save my Pikmin 3 freebie), so that was almost all VC and DLC. Anyway, I think Nintendo fans in the know can agree that two years of free money back just for using and enjoying the service was a great way to diminish the practical console cost. This was a fantastic promotion and I'm sad to see it go, but it was one heck of a deal while it lasted.
@DiscoGentleman: If having a wider variety of sizes is what is necessary, that's what I mean. But offering 1X at the largest is still absurd for us. I'd be all for them offering bigger AND smaller sizes so these shirts aren't just a bad joke.
Yay, game cases! I have one of these from the first set way back when, but now I have too many games to put in it so I've been needing a second. Missed out on the second wave a while back, but not this time!
Sucks they never make these shirts big enough, though. Even if I was skinny I couldn't pull off a 1X because I'm too tall! This is America, guys...size accordingly.
I'd rather have the figurines, thanks. The correct way to comfort your stressed-out fans is to promise reprints of those, not a half-assed "solution" like this. Okay sure, some people might prefer cards...many will not.
I never got a chance to preorder to begin with, but I had the page bookmarked in case they resupplied. I just checked it a minute ago, and the page for the Lucario Amiibo is gone from their site altogether. In fact, ALL of the third-wave Amiibo are now delisted. Come on guys, get it together!
This is because people like me rushed out and preordered everything we could in light of recent stock concerns. Only natural that would push sales like crazy...I just hope Nintendo will pay attention and find a way to increase production.
@WaLzgi: True...but my brother needed to be picked up from work at the mall anyway, and I like some of the people in my store. I don't regret the trip. Also hit Best Buy on the way out...just Lucario and Rosalina left out of Wave 3 for me...Waves 1 and 2 are covered.
Glad to see Nintendo isn't actually THAT stupid...I just hope they can respond to the high demand quickly. There are already a few THIRD wave Amiibos sold out on Amazon, let alone second. I went ahead and snapped up preorders on every one I can just in case. Only major problem remaining is those darned retailer-exclusives. Planning a trip to GameStop tomorrow to see about Shulk and possibly whatever I can't get on Amazon ATM. I gots the Amiibo fever for reals! Or something.
It seems AWFULLY fast to discontinue these. I mean heck, I was in Walmart the other day and saw some first-gen Skylanders on the shelf...those are THREE YEARS OLD now! But somehow first-gen first-wave Amiibos can't last a month? I seriously doubt this is accurate, to be honest. I know Nintendo said some Amiibos would be more limited than others, but this is absurd!
With all that said, I knew these three would be some of the first to go one way or another, so I preordered them ASAP. Glad I did. Hope they fix this for those who didn't have the chance.
I saw this coming the instant the things were announced...but it's actually worse than I thought it might be. I expected maybe a short selection of save files, like you have to pick 12 StreetPass titles max. ONE at a time is INCREDIBLY restrictive...but it won't matter until more games trying to write to them release anyway, so it's all academic for now.
@shaneoh I don't find the games exciting because I already buy the games I want when they release. 200 coins (roughly on average) for a game I could pay less than $10 for is a bad deal, straight up. Meanwhile, physical goods may wind up on eBay, but they will be EXPENSIVE. I paid around $30 to import Tingle's Balloon Fight a few years ago.
Looks like the incomplete version of Galaxy's soundtrack is going cheap...but the two-disc complete version is crazy expensive. Either way, I'd rather get it straight from Nintendo and have a quality program instead of this crap we're stuck with now.
I WANT THIS! I am always amazed to see people commenting on these begging for damn games they could just buy instead. I'd gladly trade you right about now!
If that screenshot is meant to be from the 3DS version, that means they're re-using the PSP version's visuals. I'd be perfectly happy with that, as that's the best version to date IMO.
Is this really the entire list? I'd have thought some secret unlockables would've been leaked following the Japanese release by now... I want Tingle, dammit!
"The soundtrack also leans toward a slightly mellower ambiance than the first game while retaining the same light, quirky, 16-bit feel; this is a plus, as Tappingo is definitely a game made for chilling out."
I disagree...I much preferred the soundtrack in the first game. Hardly a deal-breaker for a great game like this, but a minor disappointment nonetheless.
@Mercy_Lost: You expect LOGIC from Nintendo? Heh...I don't think so. Anyway, I'd gladly trade you. Free cheap games are not my idea of a good reward for spending hundreds of dollars on...well, GAMES. Often including the ones they're trying to give me for free. Meanwhile, you guys have a Mario Galaxy soundtrack, cute Yoshi plush, and plenty of other physical goodies. Those points cards are pathetic at this point, though...should be replaced with eShop cash cards by now.
So they stocked what, two bags? Pretty pathetic either way. I just want them to get in more of those 3DS game cases. My first one is full and I've got more games to sort.
@Azooooz: I figured that was what you meant. Sony has proven that region locking CAN be done on a game-by-game basis, as the PS3 is mostly region-free, but some titles (okay, just one as of now) do lock. Every disc is region coded (hence the region one logo on the side of the American boxes), but the system normally ignores that. Nintendo COULD do the same thing, or even let it be an optional thing like Sony did. But they won't, because Nintendo. sigh

Re: Rumour: Villager, Marth & Wii Fit Trainer amiibo Discontinued
It seems AWFULLY fast to discontinue these. I mean heck, I was in Walmart the other day and saw some first-gen Skylanders on the shelf...those are THREE YEARS OLD now! But somehow first-gen first-wave Amiibos can't last a month? I seriously doubt this is accurate, to be honest. I know Nintendo said some Amiibos would be more limited than others, but this is absurd!
With all that said, I knew these three would be some of the first to go one way or another, so I preordered them ASAP. Glad I did. Hope they fix this for those who didn't have the chance.
Re: Nintendo Outlines Confusing amiibo Save Data Limitations
I saw this coming the instant the things were announced...but it's actually worse than I thought it might be. I expected maybe a short selection of save files, like you have to pick 12 StreetPass titles max. ONE at a time is INCREDIBLY restrictive...but it won't matter until more games trying to write to them release anyway, so it's all academic for now.
Re: Kirby: Triple Deluxe Soundtrack Now Available On Club Nintendo in Australia & Europe
Re: Kirby: Triple Deluxe Soundtrack Now Available On Club Nintendo in Australia & Europe
I WANT THIS! I am always amazed to see people commenting on these begging for damn games they could just buy instead. I'd gladly trade you right about now!
Re: The Original Final Fantasy Is Getting The 3D Classics Treatment In Japan
If that screenshot is meant to be from the 3DS version, that means they're re-using the PSP version's visuals. I'd be perfectly happy with that, as that's the best version to date IMO.
Re: Feature: Meet The Playable Cast Of Hyrule Warriors
Is this really the entire list? I'd have thought some secret unlockables would've been leaked following the Japanese release by now... I want Tingle, dammit!
Re: Review: Tappingo 2 (3DS eShop)
"The soundtrack also leans toward a slightly mellower ambiance than the first game while retaining the same light, quirky, 16-bit feel; this is a plus, as Tappingo is definitely a game made for chilling out."
I disagree...I much preferred the soundtrack in the first game. Hardly a deal-breaker for a great game like this, but a minor disappointment nonetheless.
Re: North American Club Nintendo Replenishes Its Physical Reward Stock
@Mercy_Lost: You expect LOGIC from Nintendo? Heh...I don't think so. Anyway, I'd gladly trade you. Free cheap games are not my idea of a good reward for spending hundreds of dollars on...well, GAMES. Often including the ones they're trying to give me for free. Meanwhile, you guys have a Mario Galaxy soundtrack, cute Yoshi plush, and plenty of other physical goodies. Those points cards are pathetic at this point, though...should be replaced with eShop cash cards by now.
Re: North American Club Nintendo Replenishes Its Physical Reward Stock
So they stocked what, two bags? Pretty pathetic either way. I just want them to get in more of those 3DS game cases. My first one is full and I've got more games to sort.
Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie Is Coming To Blu-ray In The UK This November
American release, please!
Re: Sorry, Contrary to Rumours the New Nintendo 3DS Will be Region Locked
@Azooooz: I figured that was what you meant. Sony has proven that region locking CAN be done on a game-by-game basis, as the PS3 is mostly region-free, but some titles (okay, just one as of now) do lock. Every disc is region coded (hence the region one logo on the side of the American boxes), but the system normally ignores that. Nintendo COULD do the same thing, or even let it be an optional thing like Sony did. But they won't, because Nintendo. sigh
