Re: Soapbox: Retail Games Cost Too Much To Download From The eShop

Stuffgamer1

This may or may not have been mentioned already, but Americans ARE used to paying MSRP for new games. NSMBU is still $60 in stores now, barring limited offers. That said, I'm in the camp that thinks the download should be cheaper to make up for reduced cost of sale. Either way, it's kind of a rip-off, which is why I generally prefer physical games.

Re: StreetPass DLC System Update Finally Hits North America

Stuffgamer1

Heh...already updated last night. Spent a good hour in the tutorials for the four games.

@SirQuincealot: I believe Warrior's Way uses those guys, as the army you amass is comprised of EVERYBODY in your StreetPass partner's Plaza. At least, I'm pretty sure I've never passed 370 unique people.

Re: European Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney Release Given Some Hope

Stuffgamer1

If this hits Europe and not America, it's one more irrefutable point in favor of banning region locking. NOBODY is going to convince me this game is "obscure."

@ferthepoet: If I have money by then, I definitely will.

@One-Winged-Pit: Hold on there, dude. They haven't even announced the price yet. Even so, you have to remember that they don't expect this game to sell very well...that's why it's digital-only in the first place. If you boycott it because it's digital-only, you're only making things worse for yourself and every other American fan of the series.

Re: Soapbox: Why Region Locking Is A Total Non-Issue

Stuffgamer1

"While this argument held weight about a decade ago, these days publishers have become really good at making sure western gamers get localised versions of the best games Japan can offer. As I said before, unless the game you’re hankering for is super, super obscure, there’s an excellent chance that it will be brought to the west at some point. "

Except for Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland, Bomberman Story DS, Bomberman 2 (terrible European title...the DS game), Last Window...all pretty big names, and NONE of them released in America, forcing me to import them all. Hudson had problems with localization for some reason, and Nintendo just have their heads up their butts half the time lately. I WANTED to play the Wii sequel to Trace Memory, but region locking prevented it.

As for your argument that importing could screw up sales of locally released games...yes, that's POSSIBLE, but for the very informed gamer, unlikely. The ONLY game I've ever imported that eventually released in America was Colour Cross, and the local release took over TWO YEARS. At that point, I had no reason to believe we'd ever get it, so I imported it instead.

Funny thing, though...I'm right there with you on PS3. Never imported a thing for it. But I think that boils down to Sony having much more faith in games doing well overseas than Nintendo does. Everything I want actually releases here, which is simply not the case with Nintendo. THAT'S why I want Nintendo to get rid of their BS region locking.

Re: Impressions: The Best Buy "Nintendo Experience"

Stuffgamer1

Yes, I did go, and yes, I waiting in line over THREE HOURS for a short romp in Super Mario 3D World. But I don't really think it was time terribly spent...or at least, not any worse than I might have done at home. I had some great conversations and got a nice pile of StreetPasses for those coveted pink pieces. And there's just something about being able to talk about a recently announced game with first-hand experience...

I really hope they do this again next year, but they should put some more advanced planning into it. All they really did was ship a demo disc to stores for them to put in their preexisting Wii U demo stations, and while that was functional, it was less than ideal. A proper setup with several stations really is a must next time around. Also, a larger supply of loot. I got there a lousy ten minutes after the event started, and all I got was a flag 'cause everything else was gone.

Re: Feature: A Miiverse Adventure With Mega Man X

Stuffgamer1

Only saw the first few of these when he was posting them...I was mostly too busy...y'know...playing the game myself. It was cute at first, but I think you went way too far, Phil. I'm in the "most of these aren't very funny" camp. A few are...but not most.

Re: New GameCenter CX Title in Development for 3DS

Stuffgamer1

@CanisWolfred: I've seen plenty of games that got COMPLETELY DIFFERENT box art when they were localized...XSeed had no excuse for taking this route. The game sold on name alone in Japan, so it didn't NEED a good box...but that simply wasn't the case out West.

Re: New GameCenter CX Title in Development for 3DS

Stuffgamer1

It needs to release in the West and have decent box art this time. Seriously now...look at that picture in the game overview up there and tell me it wasn't bland enough to get overlooked by people who would have really liked the game. That's sure what happened when the game was new...I was working at GameStop at the time, and nobody ever looked at the thing, despite my best efforts to raise its visibility.

Re: Nintendo Download: 6th June (Europe)

Stuffgamer1

Man, they were doing well at making the American and European VC releases the same for a few weeks, then suddenly Europe's support fell. Of course, as of right now, Spelunker is the only game listed for release this week on the American Nintendo.com too, but that could still change...I've noticed it tends to update more towards Tuesday over here. Here's hoping, anyway...we still need to catch up with Mario's Super Picross already!

Re: Nintendo Download: 30th May (North America)

Stuffgamer1

@mumof3kids82: Not in my experience...oh well, it updated a few minutes ago anyway.

@ThomasBW84: After a thorough examination, I can confidently say that Spelunker was pushed back. I bet its publisher isn't going to be happy about that...

Re: Denis Dyack: X-Men Destiny Accusations Affecting Shadow Of The Eternals Development

Stuffgamer1

I'll admit, the reputation that article gave the man did leap readily to my mind when I heard of the crowdfunding project. That's not to say that I necessarily believed all of it...to be honest, I don't know WHAT I believed...but I at the very least recognized that it would be a stumbling block for this project at large one way or another.

I appreciate their taking the time to make this video, and I think the gesture should not be ignored. Their arguments are reasonable, I get no sense that they're trying to deceive...and if I had an income, it would be enough to push me to pitch in on the project. I really hope they succeed.

Re: Miiverse: Super Metroid - Too Taxing For Today's Gamers?

Stuffgamer1

I guess this explains why so many people were impressed when I finished game 100% on Wednesday. Post a screenshot, people are all like "no way!" and I'm like "way!"

Really though, to a very real extent, I have no room to talk. I grew up using NPower and player's guides while gaming...still do, often. And I admit...I did for this run of Super Metroid also. That said, I feel that some of the complaints on Miiverse are ridiculous, like the people who get stuck just after that one-way gate in Brinstar. I use the guide to help find the obscurely hidden items, not to tell me how to get past obvious barriers. I also wall-jump like a boss, so that's fun.

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th May (North America)

Stuffgamer1

I downloaded and played all the way through Super Metroid yesterday, so yeah...

That reduced price promo for Super Mario Bros. 2 is kinda weird...I wonder if we'll see any more like it in the future, perhaps on games I want to get on VC.

Re: Eternal Darkness Will "Definitely" Be Discussed For The Wii U, Say Precursor Games

Stuffgamer1

Remember, everybody: This crowdfunding project ISN'T ON KICKSTARTER. They're handling it directly, and they've even stated that they may choose to keep whatever money they DO raise toward their goal even if they don't reach the full $1.5 million.

I'd like to see the original on the Wii U eShop, sure...but I think the 20-pound price suggested above is excessive. Microsoft was charging $15 for original Xbox game downloads, and PS2 Classics are only $10. I don't think Nintendo will go for 10 when that's most likely going to be the N64 price again (when/if they get around to that), but I could see $15...it'd be complained about by many, but it'd sell. $20, though...that's really pushing it.

Re: Weirdness: Own The Manual To ClayFighter Sculptor's Cut? You Could Be Sitting On A Grand

Stuffgamer1

@ yoshisaredragon: Please do not ignore the all-important emoticon following my statement, wherein a wink indicates tongue-in-cheek humor. True, I see no draw for that kind of collection drive, and I am sometimes negatively impacted by it when all I want to do is get my hands on a game to PLAY it, but I know there can be upsides to it...quite crafty and profitable ones at that.

Re: Weirdness: Own The Manual To ClayFighter Sculptor's Cut? You Could Be Sitting On A Grand

Stuffgamer1

@DeathCode: Idiot...collector...what's the diff?

Seriously though, this is nuts. I like manuals and all, but not THAT much. Of course, I appreciate games for functionality, not rarity. The proudest games in my collection are...if you'll forgive the pun...rarely rare at all...except for EarthBound, and even THAT is easy to come by if you're willing to pay out the butt (and why would you with the VC release upcoming?). I'm just weird that way.

Re: Nintendo Download: 9th May 2013 (Europe)

Stuffgamer1

@G3ry: If they aren't going to downloading anything, nothing is the only true answer. It's not a good idea to SAY you'll download something when you won't...I'd rather this was an accurate portrayal of what a terrible job Nintendo is doing of releasing games their fans care about.

In case anybody was wondering, Solomon's Key and Xevious are both listed for a May 9th release on Nintendo.com...so it looks like North America is going to get the same two games again this week. That wouldn't bother me so much if we weren't already a game behind...I WANT MARIO'S SUPER PICROSS, DANG IT!
