I love sharing the same island, but they should add a patch that fixes the restrictions on certain game progress to only the character that started playing first. That’s ridiculously restrictive. Everyone should absolutely be allowed to experience the same game if your family bought a console and a game.

Love it - I just wish I didn’t have to wait for my son to do things as the first player before they unlock for me as a secondary citizen. Really hope they fix that.

I feel like they need to give more power to every player playing on the same Switch. Lots of complaints from people who aren’t the primary player on their family’s console. My son started playing first and now I have to wait for him to do things (like donating enough things to Tom Nook to get the Museum to show up). And we haven’t gotten there yet but I read somewhere that only the primary person can build bridges. Seems to me like giving every resident full control of the story and the island would be a very much appreciated patch.

Kids today just don't understand at all. You can't blame them. They have little concept of consequences and the future. The sad thing is the young adults who don't get it. Welcome back from the dark side @damienmcferran
I tried to play a game on my PS3 the other day and it would only let me play the demo unless I logged in to my account. We will not be able to share these games with our grandchildren if we don't truly own them.

After playing the games on the classic for a while and recognizing the controller, my 4 year old just wanted to go play zombies ate my neighbors instead on the real snes.

Whether you leave a game because you're a rage quitter or because your internet is bad, it's all the same to me, your teammate.

I won't complain if you aren't able to be paired with me again for a while.

Mother 3 and Metroid 2D and Netflix style virtual console, amirite?

Right now I am feeling lots of concern. First of all, I want Nintendo to go back to playing with power. This sounds more like a focus on portability than power right now. And if it's a portable first, then I am tremendously concerned about how practical it will be. It has two whole controllers on the sides of a screen. Is this thing as big as a wii u game pad? Will millions of people carry it around if it doesn't fit in their pocket?

How does it take into account the quality of your throws that affect how likely you are to catch a Pokemon. I would never trust pressing a button without seeing which Pokemon it was at this point in case it was a rare one I want to use a berry and a better ball on.

I wish I could link my Nintendo account to miitomo. "The request contains an error". Is there anything I can do? Simply will not link on my iPad.

Edit: After simply trying again for the hundredth time linking finally worked. Very strange.

As an adopter I would certainly love to see more exclusive games. BUT Nintendo is in an impossible situation. They simply can't do it. Parents would be so confused. They blew it by naming it it the New 3DS just like they blew it with the Wii U.

Beat everyone at the game that's being played. Don't make up your own game. Don't invent some new storage device for the games. Don't think of a new gimmick. Don't think of a new pun for its name. Powerful, blu ray player, good online infrastructure, 3rd party friendly, achievement system with Nintendo flare. Give us the exact equivalent of the PS4 and add Nintendo games to it = big win. For nostalgia sake I recommend calling it the Super Nintendo 2 and lead the PR with Reggie admitting Nintendo's mistakes and warning everyone that Nintendo is back.

@aaronsullivan that is certainly a solution but it's definitely a shame someone would have to resort to buying a second Wii U and a second copy of the game just to play with someone in the same room, isn't it? The lack of local co-op online multiplayer is a glaring omission.

give me the ability to play with 2 people online on the same console. I don't care that player 2 couldn't launch to teammates. If that's really such a big deal for them make launching some sort of button combination on the controller.

The upside is that even a company as slow to adapt and as set in its ways as Nintendo can't ignore the 3rd party failure AGAIN, can it? I absolutely have to think they'll fix it next time.

This is comparable to Hollywood putting out a good new rated R action movie starring attractive actresses and a sex scene mostly unrelated to the plot. And then interviewing the director. And then putting it in front of children and asking them to give their opinion of the movie without having seen it.

But I wish all of the children were more critical and scared of the violence in Call of Duty than the fanservice in this game.

Too bad it isn't download play. I have a second 3DS but very unlikely to buy a second copy of the same game for my own home.

I really can't believe this is what they decided to call Metroid. The fans want Metroid, and there are tons of developers out there who would love to make a classic 2D metroid, and I don't understand why Nintendo isn't one of them.

@Nintendian The answer is the story. The puzzles make it an interactive story and make it more personal and engaging for the player. The story is just amazing. If you aren't into the puzzles I think they released a puzzle-less version on the iPad to experience the story.

@flag unless they're finally building something that's easy to port to. nobody's asking for exclusive 3rd party new ip. most people just want cross platform 3rd party games and Nintendo games in one place

I agree with Spoony_Tech completely. I bought the game on sale, but it's not because I didn't think it was worth the full price. It's a great indie game. I like Renegade Kid's games. I just have so many games I don't need to be going around paying full price for everything. But if something good goes on sale I snatch it up for later tricking myself into thinking that I'm being thrifty.

I would love for the NX to work with my New 3DS somehow. But I would love even more to have a traditional home console with zero gimmicks or special selling points other than being easy to port to, lots of power, and Nintendo software.

I actually have a really good feeling that they finally understand. Just make it easy for 3rd parties. Don't give them an extra peripheral with added cost of porting. Make it a simple, cheap, clean porting process for 3rd parties, add a 21st century online infrastructure for achievements and social interaction, and Nintendo will win by a landslide supported by the best software in the business.

The paper mario/mario & Luigi game will be fantastic and doesn't belong in the same category as the ridiculous metroid and animal crossing games.

I know GameFreak has said they don't want to do a home console, but surely Nintendo has some say in the matter...

and what's the deal with my puzzle coming in a paper bag instead of a box... just sayin.

@Daveh30 Oh I know that. I already own the game from ps+. I mean I like having my New 3DS do things the old 3DS can't do, so that I don't feel like I bought it for nothing. =p

I also know absolutely nothing about coding but find it surprising that this game wouldn't fit on 3DS compared to some of the seemingly massive and deep retail games.

On the other hand I love exclusives for my new hardware!

Man Iwata faked me out big time with this announcement. I was absolutely confident as they were going through the old clips of Mario Kart that they were going to say "battle mode" and we were going to get a real battle mode announcement.

I actually like games like this. I never spend any money on them. And, in fact, it's built in such a way that without limiting the gameplay to 20 minute bursts it would actually probably lose its appeal much quicker. So the hearts don't bother me.

Nintendo needs their version of skylanders or disney infinity to really get things going and show things off. And I bet they're working on it. The figures themselves are more intriguing to me than any gameplay value, which I'm not sure is what they want ideally. I also really wish they would build figures that remember multiple game data.

My interest is significantly diminished until one amiibo holds data for multiple games.

a beautiful 3D Mario 64 is a fantastic idea. Fantastic idea. And probably the only one that actually feels possible to happen.

I'm not so sure it's worth the upgrade. The stable 3D is fantastic. The better battery life is good. But really I don't think I'll feel justified with my purchase until more exclusive games come rolling out.

Mario Kart 8 is beautiful and online racing is fun, but it should not win. Without a real battle mode it is half the game that Mario Kart 64 was.

I wish someone would tell them they don't need new ideas. They just need to copy the online infrastructure of Sony and Microsoft and then keep doing what they do making great software. Feed the masses with their desire to have an online account to be proud of and show off their accomplishments coupled with nintendo software and they will be number one.

And please please please kill the Wii brand and go back to basic, sane naming strategies.

@DefHalan The problem with your argument is that it's simply not done on the eshop. There is no early access program for Nintendo. No matter which way you spin it, if the developers intention was to release an incomplete game, which you claim, then people are being tricked, because it simply isn't done on the eshop. No matter how vocal you think the dev is being, anything short of saying in the description on the eshop "Warning: My intention is to release an incomplete game ala early access programs" is not vocal enough. Of course he doesn't say this because it isn't done on Nintendo. How you feel about early access is irrelevant.

@DefHalan Your defense of The Letter is that it is unfinished. That would be a great defense if someone broke into his house, stole the files off his computer, played what he had, and wrote a review. Do you seriously not see a problem with what he did? You admit yourself nobody else has tried this on a console before. Did you ever wonder if there was a reason for that?

To be fair I'd still say promotions like this are very rare compared to the competition.

I am torn. I am not overwhelmingly disappointed. But I'm also not as happy as I could be. I think I like getting Game & Wario better than the soundtrack last year, and the pins the year before that. But what I really want is something nice like the statue from the year before. But if they were just going to give us something lame like the last 2 years then I prefer the retail game. But I would also prefer more retail games to choose from. They know full well that people earn these points by buying a lot of games, so they need to provide a lot more retail choices.

Earthbound is easily worth a full retail price of $60.
