Re: Wii U Won't Include Trophies Or Achievements

Squiggle55

This is a mistake from a business perspective no doubt about it. Wii U is going to have its share of fantastic first party games, but unless the gamepad offers something completely awesome I'm still going to choose Sony for multiplatform third party games for this seemingly simple reason. Trophies are wonderful for replay value. And not liking trophies isn't a good enough reason to be happy about this. Nintendo simply could have added an option not to display trophies.

Nintendo claims they want to appeal to the fans of Sony and Microsoft this go around but this is just a horrible choice. And I have to add that they sound like complete morons when they say "But! Every game can have its own achievement system!" Like that was some sort of conscious decision by them or something new.

They should have done this, and they still should like Sony did after the fact.

Re: Wii to Wii U Data Transfer Details Emerge

Squiggle55

The SD card in my Wii has a bunch of stuff on it at the moment since all of the games don't fit on the Wii itself. I'm unclear if I can use that SD card to do this transfer or if I need an empty one to put into the Wii U first.

Re: Talking Point: Games That Need Wii U - World of Warcraft

Squiggle55

I say yes please to mmos. Just give me a keyboard peripheral and a headset and I'm all about it. Patches would certainly be something to hold it back since it's Nintendo we're talking about, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want it. Still lookin forward to trying dragon quest x and other RPGs and mmos where I think wii u will shine.

Re: First UK Wii U Television Advertisement Breaks Cover

Squiggle55

how about that writing/acting! "I'd like to watch the TV now..."

I also find it very strange to leave out the name Nintendo completely. I miss the days where the console was simply "the Nintendo." And now they've moved so far away from that that they don't even bother mentioning their name.

Re: Talking Point: Affordable Consoles Come at a Cost

Squiggle55

If these teenagers are being forced to work by their parents then that is on their parents' conscience. It's still mainly an issue of ugly global capitalism coupled with overpopulation. Politically we are simply not going to convince China to act differently. It won't happen. The only possible solution I see is for Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, and Apple to truly take the lead with a global awareness campaign, move (or threaten to move to promote change) manufacturing to another country, raise prices, and be VERY VERY VOCAL about the whole process and why they have raised prices. Or, like somebody else mentioned, they could have product made in America and some made in China and price it accordingly and leave it on the consumer's conscience.

Re: Talking Point: Affordable Consoles Come at a Cost

Squiggle55

Correct me if I'm wrong but it's not like this is forced slave labor. I think the working conditions in general and miniscule wages are the real issue — not that someone is 16 instead of 18. And even then it's just a world issue resulting from global capitalism and overpopulation that is impossible to solve at the rate we are growing.
However, these are of course luxury items and the price is being driven down by saving money by mistreating the workers. I think raising prices alongside a global campaign for human rights could work.
But, controversially, I also think these positions are very low skilled jobs — and they aren't being forced to do them. If some of these workers are in fact well educated but forced to work low skilled jobs to feed their family because of a lack of opportunity or good paying jobs, then that gets back to overpopulation and the faults of the country and we simply can't control the population of other countries nor can we control the opportunities they provide to their citizens or their regulations. We could certainly put pressure on them from a human rights perspective, and Nintendo, Apple, and Sony could be great leaders in that.

Re: Nintendo: Phones And Tablets Aren't Games Devices

Squiggle55

You have to give it to Apple. Their marketing is quite powerful. If I were a kid today there are hundreds of things I would ask for for Christmas (including a Vita, 3DS, Wii U, PS3, 360) before I asked for a cell phone that makes me always available. I mean seriously. It costs more. It can be an e-reader but I'd rather read a book. It has games, and some of them are great, but not better than a console. The best thing about a phone or tablet is checking stocks or browsing the web. And worst of all people can call you on it.

Re: Reggie Promises Steady Stream Of Wii U Consoles

Squiggle55

All I want to hear is that I will be able to buy a Deluxe Model next year, complete with the black version and the digital download perks. Just tell me that, Nintendo. I don't care if it's sold out until a year from now, just tell me the Deluxe isn't a first run only thing.

Re: 3DS "Bookstore Anywhere" App Bringing eBooks to Japan

Squiggle55

Whatever gets you young folks reading again. =p
A physical book is still the only thing I enjoy at all for any prolonged reading. In a distant second is a kindle with the ink display. It's not necessarily about eye strain I don't think, it just doesn't feel right on a lit up ipad/computer/game system or anything that's capable of doing more than being a reading tool and isn't the same dimensions of a regular book. Maybe it's because reading is about escapism, and that's harder to do on any multitasking device.

Re: Sony: Wii U Offering "Something That Vita and PS3 can do Quite Easily"

Squiggle55

@Mollutje Hopefully when the PS4 comes out, the connection between the PS4 and Vita will actually be better than ever. With the PS4 doing all of the processing, hopefully remote play works without a hitch. They certainly didn't really build the Vita with the PS3 in mind, but now hopefully they're building the PS4 with the Vita in mind.

Anyways, I think the PS3/Vita controller combo will be very limited to mostly first party stuff because of the install base. Hope I'm wrong though.

Re: Talking Point: Five Reasons to Buy a Wii U

Squiggle55

I'm not going to make a decision until Nintendo explains the digital promotion. If I can join the digital promotion and get a black Wii U next year, then I'll wait. If it's like an exclusive first-run only kind of thing, I'll go ahead and camp out or something.

Re: The Definitive Guide To Wii U

Squiggle55

I'd like to hear more about the rewards program or whatever it is Reggie mentioned like that. What I really want to know other than the details is if this is a program aimed at rewarding early adopters and purchasers of the deluxe version, and if that is the only way to be in the program. If people want to buy a black Wii U sometime after Christmas would they completely miss out on this program/promotion?

Re: Nintendo Unveils TVii Service for North America

Squiggle55

Lots of confused people. I think Nintendo needs to explain this service like they're explaining it to a child so kids don't try to tell their parents the Wii U has free TV or something. You have to keep your netflix subscription. You still have to pay for netflix, hulu plus, cable TV, etc, but now it's all gathered into one convenient app.

Re: Nintendo Unveils TVii Service for North America

Squiggle55

This is great for us simply putting hulu plus, amazon prime, and netflix under one roof with one search engine. For people with all of these AND cable/satellite and a DVR, I'm sure this app will prove to be very, very useful. The only thing I'm left wondering is how long it will take to get to a piece of content from WiiTV. Do you quickly stream your netflix stuff basically straight from WiiTV, or after you choose something from Netflix does it have to boot up a separate Netflix app?

Re: The Definitive Guide To Wii U

Squiggle55

TVii is a very cool thing. We don't have cable, but we have Hulu Plus, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, so a system that puts all of those services in one app is very useful. This is a good a reason as any to replace the PS3 as our TV device.

Re: Talking Point: Challenges for the Future of Nintendo Gaming

Squiggle55

I'm just happy that Zelda and Mario will be in HD. And I will be more than happy if they simply make themselves more attractive to 3rd parties so that when a new downloadable title comes out I have to choose between the PSN and the Wii U Shop. But if Nintendo doesn't use a universal achievement system I'm going to choose PSN every time, unless the game pad provides a different/better way to play the game.

Re: Feature: DS Games We Want on Wii U

Squiggle55

great article. I would jump all over an HD home console Professor Layton, being able to watch those cutscenes on a big HDTV, and solve puzzles on the gamepad. That sounds like a wonderful experience.

Re: EarthBound's Virtual Console No-Show Could Be Down To Sampling Issues

Squiggle55

Earthbound is probably my favorite game. I could easily play through it every year. This is very frustrating to hear - especially the line "it's a topic we should probably avoid." I agree with Tsuchinoko, it really seems like there is something else holding this up other than music, and it's very frustrating. This game, its world, its characters, and its style are all gold. I wish they would go through the effort it will require to release it, or just make a new one for the new consoles. Either way, it's frustrating for it to be brushed aside by saying "it's a topic we should probably avoid." I know absolutely nothing about it, but maybe it's something like Capcom wanting nothing to do with Inafune's mega man after he left.

Re: GameStop Exploring Possibility of Second-Hand Digital Sales

Squiggle55

This almost makes sense...
If we eventually transition to an entirely digital industry and the technology exists that can extract a specific game from your console, and then it has a one-time use code attached to it for someone else to use when they buy it used. Of course everyone would buy their codes used while inventory was available... but I guess publishers could keep leaving out mulitplayer for used copies or whatever. And this also would require Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft to get on board adding whatever technology this is to their infrastructure — so if they really want to keep a good retail relationship I guess it could work. It definitely would solve the biggest problem with the digital format, which is not actually owning the game you buy because you aren't allowed to sell it.

Re: Mole Mania

Squiggle55

I know absolutely nothing about this game, but I am going to pick it up based on the screenshots and the name Miyamoto alone.
