Re: EarthBound Delay May Not Have Been Caused By Music Licensing Issues After All

Squiggle55

I guess I honestly think Nintendo didn't think there was big enough demand. The higher ups probably wrote it off for the west ever since the snes failed to meet their expectations. But I still don't know why they didn't bother to put it on the Virtual Console until now, b/c they've put some pretty lame games on that service.

Hopefully the sales figures of this release blows them away and they give us more.

Re: Capcom Looking To Provide "Better Single Player Content" In Fighters

Speaking as someone who traditionally is not a big fighter fan, the good character development and story modes are the only thing that can make me stomach the genre. Mortal Kombat and DoA are examples of fighting games that do pretty well for me. If street fighter put together some great stories and cut scenes I could dig that.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Should Make EA Co-operation a Priority

Squiggle55

I would prefer that Nintendo encourage companies to release original games on their system, especially indie devs. Sony has the right idea now with indie dev relations and they're getting a lot of good games and publicity because of it. I honestly see no reason for Nintendo to get on their knees begging for a inevitably watered down port of Madden or Call of Duty.

Re: Talking Point: The Download or Disc Dilemma

Squiggle55

I do find the mention of a "dying breed" interesting though. I can easily see a download only future, because the newer generation is growing up around downloading games, and for whatever reason they don't see the problem in not being able to lend a game to a friend or having the game tied to one console.

@Nilcam I find it interesting when you say you will download a game when it is a game you are positive you are going to love, like the new Zelda. Because I am the complete opposite. I definitely want to feel like I actually own the new Zelda so I would buy the disc. But that's exactly what I'm talking about I think that's the new generation's mentality.

Re: Talking Point: The Download or Disc Dilemma

I still only download games when they are download only. If it is a retail game I actually want to have the box because of a collector's mentality, not because I plan on selling it. I also like that it gives me the impression that I actually own the game, and can lend it to a friend. The Nintendo Digital Deluxe promotion helps some with the pricing discrepancies, but the entire industry needs to figure out an even better way to make download more attractive if they want us to make that switch (hint: it's pretty much all about the price and being screwed out of real ownership).

I'm also much more comfortable downloading from Sony where my purchases are tied to my account and not to a single system. Fixing this would help Nintendo a lot in this area.

Re: Talking Point: The Future Role of High Street Games Retailers

Squiggle55

I usually shop at gamestop. I like putting in pre-orders for the big ones and typically new games are the same price everywhere so might as well choose the place with the rewards points.

I think the DLC cards are ridiculous but I guess there are people out there that don't want to use their credit card on the eshop or whatever.

Nice of Dan Adelman to admit that publishers are saving money by distributing digitally. Obviously it would be nice for them to pass some savings on to the consumer for choosing the digital option that is really sticking it to them and not letting them actually own it. Don't get me wrong, if a digital future means a thriving game industry, I'm all for it. Cut out the middleman completely for all I care. I'll miss the collector's aspect of the physical games, but it's looking inevitable. But I'm hoping the digital future comes with a much more flexible pricing structure.

Re: Wii U Games Struggling At Retail In The UK

Squiggle55

Speaking for myself, I bought the deluxe Wii U at US launch, and I didn't buy a single game until I got Mario as a Christmas present. Mario was the only big game that even tempted me in the slightest to purchase a retail game at full price and I waited patiently bc I knew I'd get it. Now what I want to see are awesome, innovative games on the eshop for 10 or 15 dollars. That's kind of where my money has been goin the last couple of years is the awesome stuff on PSN. This is why I haven't been buying a lot of retail recently and I'd rather have PSN cards or 3DS eshop cards or wii u eshop cards if they start getting that rolling. It's a changing world and the 10-15 dollar digital exclusives are movin in and setting up shop - especially when it comes to new IP.

Re: UK Press Pins Blame For Sandy Hook Massacre On Video Games

I was very encouraged by President Obama's speech and his hints at upcoming policy changes. Suffice it to say I don't think videogames are the problem, nor are they likely to create a psychopath on their own. On the flipside, obviously parents shouldn't be letting their kids play mature games from a young age. Densensitizing should be taken seriously.

Re: uPlay App Now Available on Wii U eShop

something like this should have been the universal achievement system for EVERY game on the Wii U. It should have been integrated with Club Nintendo and now you also earn coins for in-game achievements and can redeem them for Club Nintendo stuff.

"but due to a perceived lack of Western interest, has failed to make a mark outside of Japan."

This is what truly bothers me. Because I actually think they could release it if they wanted to. Just like the recent comments about F-Zero, I think their heads are in the sand on this one. Test the waters with a VC release on Wii U. Then make a new one after they are proven wrong about how many people want it.

FWIW, this is also my favorite RPG ever. Challenged only by a few classic Final Fantasies.
