@Reala In the end I feel very similarly. I'm a big fan of Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7 and the several very good eshop games — but nothing truly compares to OOT.
i have to admit, Nintendo is doing a good job hyping this game and trying to tempt me into buying it with the free cards and the free 3D classic. I still think I'll have the willpower to pass until later.
lol "we were talking quite loudly to each other and my friend took a poo and placed it gently in the hall inside a wrapper. then someone picked up the poo and tried to take it promptly to the trash, because where else would poo belong, but alas he tripped and it fell all over someone else! and while they were cleaning themselves off they tripped and fell into the wall and, whoa is me, poo was suddenly and unexpectedly everywhere!"
you know before a water balloon fight you have to sit around and fill water balloons to prep for the fight. I can't believe that someone didn't say "this is weird, let's not do this" during the prepping for this fight.
lol, there is no control in these studies at all. how about having 100 kids, 50 in each group, eating the exactly same food and getting the exact same amount of sleep and being locked in a room for 1 year and forced to play either 1)wii fit all day long 2)call of duty all day long. now THAT's a test. And the results should be obvious.
Hulu+ rocks. Basically all the shows we want to watch are on Hulu+, so instead of paying 60 bucks for cable we pay 8 bucks for Hulu+ and watch the shows 1 day late.
@Kirk thanks for posting those 3 pictures, that makes it very easy to see the differences. The rounded edges would help a lot, as would shrinking the links and text from everything on the right hand side of the site, and putting the recent forum posts at the top again, right next to the first article in the middle of the page all nice and lined up like before.
I still would vote yes on flags and don't understand why someone wouldn't read the comment of someone from a specific country. But if people are actually doing that then I understand why you don't want to include the flags.
If I had to choose only one more thing to change it would be all of the stuff between articles and the comments section. It's not that I don't want to know about the authors ( for real, lots of love guys. I'd gladly read a yearly article about the staff or something), but I don't want to know the same stuff about the authors after every single article. I just want to read the comments. If it's ONLY a section of links to the article for the related games between the article and comments then that's ok, but now it's potentially author info, related games, facebook/twitter links, a video, screenshots, and THEN the comments. Again that's because my favorite thing about NL after the coverage is the community.
@James I really enjoy reading the features you all provide, you all do a great job and I check the site every day, but I read all of the articles when they are published and are right there in the middle of the page. This makes most things on the right hand side of the page redundant. To me it just seems much more convenient for frequent visitors to accentuate the community with the forum posts at top.
@ant to be fair I think the majority of those saying they like it are in favor of it being big, bright and shiny. Which is fine. But my hunch is that small changes in aesthetics, spatial organization, and flow would be liked by most too, if they notice it at all.
Kirk is doing a good job putting the aesthetic problems I am feeling into words. Especially with rounded edges and general organization of space. Polish is a good word for what i hope is still coming. That is exactly how I felt at the launch of pushsquare. I know these sites are your babies, but hopefully you take some of the small aesthetic changes into consideration, bc I think they make a big difference. The giant links to articles and news on the top right side are now too big and intrusive and often the same article as right there to the left where news and articles normally are. A nice small box with recent forum posts was perfect there. I don't feel like everything needs to be gigantic. Hopefully this helps. I'm really just trying to be helpful.
Honestly I am feeling disappointed. I don't want to be mean at all, but I don't see any reason not to be completely honest. There wasn't anything I didn't like about the old design (except of course wanting search functionality for the forums). I really enjoy coming to this site and I realize there is no going back but I will pick my battles. 1) I really hope you can add back the country flags. I thought that was an awesome touch for the community. 2) I also really liked the latest posts from the forums to be at the top of the home page. Again: community. 3) Probably barking up the wrong tree here telling this to the authors, but I don't like the authors information and the facebook/twitter buttons (and videos and pictures for reviews) being between every single article and the comments section that I actually care about. I really liked how every post flowed right into the comments section and really added to the community feeling.
Congratulations everyone involved. I'll definitely be visiting both sites. @ant what do u mean by getting NintendoLife up to speed next out of curiosity?
I would be happiest with Nintendo HD. I love this rumor I was starting to worry they weren't going to reconsider. Please just avoid second language puns and I will be most content.
I don't want a 3ds lite, I want a 3ds xl. Give me a bigger 3ds that's more comfortable to hold (like the circle pad pro supposedly does), a bigger 3d screen, and room for a much better battery.
With how controlling ninty is with their downloading service, I'm surprised they're letting a game with such a similar title to their own upcoming samurai sword game be released. If you hadn't mentioned it in the article I would have thought this was the samurai game Nintendo gave us the video of.
Having no money is an awful excuse for stealing something for fun. Get back to me when you're trying to justify stealing bread to feed your family or something that actually works as a moral dilemma.
@39 I actually agree. I don't like this statement at all because it sounds like he's completely abandoning traditional controls for the entire future of an amazing franchise. I would love to just play Zelda in hd with normal controls and the nice tablet screen for my inventory. Having to sit up so I can swing my arms and let the sensor see me is a real drawback for me.
I just want to use the tablet controller. I just want control options. If they would just give me a choice I would probably lie on the couch motion-free 9/10 of the time.
It was clearly not a joke. I'm glad most people can see that. I'm just surprised they actually realized their mistake and backed away from one of their horrible ideas.
this game is really fun. early on I just wanted to hear more of the story so I disliked when I had to do a battle, but every part of the game grew on me pretty quickly. I can't get myself to mail the game back to gamefly until I beat it. Just make sure to save your game a lot because dying and then having to go through a bunch of conversations again is pretty annoying.
@tendoboy that's right you could just make sure your arm is doing the right moves. but then you realize you aren't having any fun so you just go ahead and dance.
