Re: Talking Point: 3DS XL's Media Potential

Squiggle55

Here's a question - is there a difference between streaming a 3D movie for a glasses 3D experience on a 3D capable HDTV and the glasses-free 3D of the 3DS? If it requires different files and an entirely different 3D format I don't think it would happen with Netflix for quite a while. I would think that Netflix would first tackle offering 3D content for people with 3D TVs and glasses, and of course the Studios would have to make the files. So would it require a different file stream entirely to play something on a 3DTV and then on the 3DS? If that's the case I would think it's much more likely that the studio itself like Disney would just partner directly with Nintendo and put out cartridges or downloads for their movies that are formatted for the 3DS. But it would be very risky because there's no proof at all that the market/demand is there.

@Bazly I don't fault anyone who feels that way about puzzle games. I'm just speaking personally when I say that the leaderboard is the entire purpose for me. It doesn't necessarily have to be worldwide but it absolutely has to keep the top scores of my family and I. And it better have fireworks or something for me when I beat my score. =)

Re: Review: Bomb Monkey (3DS eShop)

a well implemented leaderboard is vital for a puzzle game for me. It drives me crazy that treasures of montezuma on the vita wipes your scores clean every week and doesn't keep track of your high score. That is literally the only point to a puzzle game for me personally.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime: Fanbase Demands Are 'Insatiable'

Squiggle55

I think Reggie is very accurate in his description. I also think Nintendo is doing great. The upcoming 3DS games are highly anticipated. I actually enjoyed Nintendo's E3 the most, and I REALLY wanted to like the Sony E3. Do I want to see surprises like Startropics or Earthbound? Absolutely. But they are a business first and if they don't think that will make money then I guess that's my loss.

Re: Nintendo to Offer Triple Layer of Miiverse Moderation

Squiggle55

I don't care how long it takes to post "that level was fun", but that much of a delay seems to really defeat the purpose of asking for help in a game. Hopefully you can still send out mass messages to your friends without delay. I can't help but think that parental controls would be simpler. Turn on word filter, only allow communication with friends, don't allow online communication, etc. Then it's on the parents to moderate who their kids are friends with.

But I'm not complaining that they're trying to protect kids and weed out obviously stupid abusive drawings and whatnot. I just want to be able to send out a question to all my friends in a timely manner.

Re: E3 2012: Nintendo Direct Live

Squiggle55

well... I liked seeing a black gamepad and the nice classic controller pro. The social connectivity looked okay. I'd like more info on the friends list (do we know if we are going to have an actual online account or a system friend code yet?) and hopefully something about achievements. Was really hoping to hear that 2 gamepads would work at once. And it's a real bummer that he suggested they won't really talk much about 3DS.

Re: Mighty Switch Force Update to Remaster All Levels

Squiggle55

I hope Capcom is taking notes. Making people happy, loyal customers who proclaim that Wayforward is one of their favorite companies is obviously a good way to go about things. While on the other hand there are lots of people who aren't even going to give Dragon's Dogma a shot because Capcom are boneheads.

Re: Sakurai Won't Make a Kid Icarus: Uprising Sequel

Squiggle55

I just rented this one from gamefly for about a week and it didn't leave me dying for a sequel. Very pretty game and funny and great for short bursts of gameplay. But in the end I didn't feel compelled to buy it. I'm always up for a classic 2D platformer though.

Re: Talking Point: The Critical Importance of Black Ops 2

Squiggle55

I don't see many CoD players switching over to the Wii U to use that big hunk of a controller for an FPS. And what if you want to play split screen? unless Nintendo announces that you can use 2 of the new controllers, then someone has to use a wiimote? I think not. But just the fact that it exists as an option should help Nintendo's image with those people if that's what they're going for.

*edit: now that I think about it. I hope Nintendo announces 1 of 2 things. 1) compatibility with multiple tablet controllers or 2) an entirely new controller for the other 3 people in the room that doesn't suck like the wiimote and has lots of input options but no screen.

Re: Iwata Defends Identical Digital and Retail Prices

Squiggle55

He is certainly correct when he says "The needs of society shall be determined by the choices to be made by the consumers." It's their right to price something as they see fit. It is clearly the consumers choice whether they think a digital download should cost the same. I just think it's a bad idea and won't lead to the type of digital sales/impulse buying that they could get with a more logical price drop.
But he is dead wrong that a digital game has the same "value".

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo Finally 'Get' Digital?

Squiggle55

As Geonjaha said, the only possible advantage I can think of for choosing digital is so you have it on your system and don't have to change game cards. If that's a good enough reason for some people then that's cool. I am of the opinion that the digital alternative should always be very significantly cheaper, because it is by far the better deal for publishers when the customer chooses that option.

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo Finally 'Get' Digital?

Squiggle55

Nintendo most definitely does not get it. If Nintendo does not pass on the savings from digital distribution to the consumer and make the prices cheaper then there is absolutely no need for it. Mind boggling. It's also worth mentioning that Sony doesn't get it either (although vita seems to be trying to improve on this). A new retail copy should never be found that is cheaper than the digital alternative. Heck you shouldn't even be able to find a used retail copy that's cheaper than a download that's locked to one console and can't be resold. Give everyone a real legitimate reason to consider going the digital route and watch it flourish.

Re: Talking Point: Could AR Games Drive eShop Sales?

Squiggle55

I'm not crazy about AR as it is now with the cards. I guess I don't understand the technology, but why do you need cards to do it at all? Face Raiders seems to work fine without cards. It's frustrating when a game stops because it lost sight of the card.
