I played Dauntless for quite a while with my friend group. Although I think it’s a good, free game, it’s a watered-down version of Monster Hunter. A great introduction for those interested in trying out Monster Hunter eventually, but if you can commit to Monster Hunter, that’s the way you should go.
I totally get the “8” score, but those are some nasty bugs. I also get that patches are so expected these days that we can tolerate some bugs, but it’s still frustrating that we sometimes have to wait for a game that’s already out to be playable. Both the Case of the Golden Idol and Backpack Hero had similar issues. While the former was just fixed, the latter still is a hot mess that randomly deleted one of my files. I’ll definitely wait for a fix for this game.
I enjoyed neither of the first two movies but watched both to stay hip with the kids. Too much focus on the non-Sonic humans, too many pop culture references/product placement, and a little too much of the power of friendship. Jim Carrey is fun, and Idris Elba is an absolutely hoot, but those two aren’t enough to bring be back to this third one.
I have never understood photo modes, myself. I imagine they exist so that people can more easily appreciate the details of character models. I assume one of the appeals of the photo mode in a game like Guilty Gear is to explore the “naughty” angles. I’m not usually one to criticize the removal of content like this, but this Guilty Gear fix is inelegant, to say the least.
If someone here appreciates a photo mode, I’d love to hear why.
Now that you mention it, GTA 5 has always been my favorite entry in the Pokémon series. I hope LudicrousBeach sues Nintendo and PocketPair for patent infringement.
If you all use “gustatorily stimulating” in a future article, I will buy an eShop card from you all. I will always support the use of outrageous descriptions.
If I had a nickel every time Nintendo Life described a deal/game as “tasty,” “delicious,” or other taste-based adjectives, I could pay for a scrumptious set of four appetizing N64 controllers.
I’ve had a family membership of Nintendo Switch Online since it launched (and the Expansion Pack when it did), so these deals never apply to me. It seems like there are so many ways to get a free trial of NSO or a great deal for it (like Jamboree having three free months bundled with it).
For those who don’t always have a subscription, are these deals worth it? How often do you end up having a NSO subscription?
I don’t have any games from the Gold Master Series yet and probably won’t go for this one. After Tetris Connected and Puyo Puyo Tetris, I’m not able to enjoy the older variants as much. If the documentary elements of Karateka and Llamasoft wow me, then I might dive into Tetris’ history.
We’re almost there, my fellow Americans. We just need a few more of us, and we’ll have the majority needed to take over Nintendo Life. No more “blimeys” or “colours,” just bald eagles and patriotism.
Don’t get me wrong, $33,000 (or $66,000 plus late fees) is a ton of money if we’re talking about individual finances, but it seems like pennies if that’s all the Palworld developers would have to pay. I was expecting the demands to be some exorbitant number that would put Pocketpair out of business and into financial oblivion.
I wonder if further expanding Stardew actually promotes his creativity. Sure, it could be cool to see how he experiments with other genres (we’ll at least get Haunted Chocolatier at some point, probably), but I think it’s cool to see how he builds upon the game to give it more depth (especially for people who routinely go for perfection) without bloating the game. You did mention that you’ve not wanted to play the updates (or at least you haven’t downloaded them). What do you think of the content updates you have played?
I personally don’t like Stardew, but I’ve been fascinated by how devoted the fan base (including my wife) is to this series. My favorite game, the Binding of Isaac, conversely, has become bloated with all of its content updates, even if a ton of the added content is fun.
Definitely didn’t mean I would play 400 games over a year or two, although this would explain why I had commented on starting a new hobby! I meant I’d have 400 games to choose from. Last time I looked at my library, there was around 30 games I wanted to replay. That said, I do play and finish around 50 games a year, so I can’t pretend I don’t invest a chunk of my everyday life to the Switch.
I’m as excited for the Switch successor as the next person, yet I’ve come to appreciate the Switch’s long life. I still have over fifty games on my wishlist that I want to eventually play, and after that, I’ll have a library of around 400 games that I could revisit and enjoy for at least another year or two. Heck, if I grow bored, I might even find a reason to stop playing as much as I do and add a new hobby. If Nintendo wants to take their time, I’m all for it, investors be darned.
I think we need a new description for review scores. A “9” doesn’t mean “Excellent” but instead means the reviewer was bought off. A “5” must then signify the reviewer didn’t understand the game. And don’t get me started on “6” scores. That score obviously means Nintendo Life only knows how to give out those scores.
Although I love the first Mario & Luigi game, I haven’t been excited for this one in the slightest, even after all the praise it’s received. Hopefully it sells well enough to allow the developer another shot at making the series even better.
Slay the Princess is the first game in several months that I bought within a month of its release. It’s fun to play games as they’re being reviewed and people are giving their impressions (rather than reading about them months or years later when I finally get to the games). I want to play five of the games listed above eventually, so if anyone wants to revisit this article in two years, I’ll join you for a spirited discussion on new games released this month.
The performance issues have been frustrating, largely because the game doesn’t seem to tax the Switch. I’ve played only one story of my second play-through, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that things don’t get buggier.
I’ve enjoyed the story and how much the Princess changes based on your interactions. It’s definitely a wordy game, so although the writing is often excellent, many conversations between the player’s voices can drag. I hope to see all of the endings, but I don’t think this game is quite as impactful as Doki Doki Literature Club and the Stanley Parable.
Although I would love to be able to buy individual songs, this app is pretty darn cool! Now we just need the Donkey Kong Country soundtracks from the Wii and Wii U!
It seems Deathtanz on Twitter is upset the character creation is neutered, but aren’t we supposed to spay and neuter our pets/video games?
I’m joking, of course. This censorship is ludicrous. When I think of Xenoblade Chronicles X, the first thing I think of is the boob slider, followed by the mechs. You just can’t censor these elements without losing a fundamental part of the game
Super glad this was reviewed. I was worried the Switch version wouldn’t be good enough given the lack of reviews for it. I’ll probably tackle this game with my wife, but with the 1.6 update for Stardew Valley coming out this week, I likely won’t see her for the next two months. Core Keeper will then kick off the new year for me!
I appreciate your perspective on the third game! I’ll probably still not get it (unless it’s on sale for something like 75% off), but I’ll have to look into the Kbash video to see what you’re talking about.
The original two No More Heroes games made me a Suda51 fan back in the day, so I was bummed to miss out on Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damned when they first came out on non-Nintendo systems. I’ve since replayed the two NMH games on the Switch, neither of which aged well in my opinion (particularly NMH 2). I’ve little desire to check out Suda’s other work now because his style no longer appeals to me. I get why Suda and these games have cult followings, but these days I’m an ex-member.
Thank you for the review and confirming I’m not missing out on this one.
I would never use sarcasm in a post this serious. If Sega can get away with censorship now, it’s only a matter of time before they force Big the Cat to wear pants. Then all hope will be lost.
These changes have caused irrevocable damage to the Sonic lore and metaverse. I am no longer invested in this “blue hedgehog goes fast” storyline or game due to this egregious misuse of censorship.
Although a cool project, I haven’t been interested in Tetris Forever until seeing this Time Warp mode. I enjoy Tetris, but I may need a deep discount on Tetris Forever to actually buy it, considering I already have Puyo Puyo Tetris and Tetris Effect on my Switch. If Tetris DS was remastered, I’d buy that in a heartbeat.
I would’ve missed this game without this review, so thank you for checking it out! There’s a ton of horror games I’d love to purchase and play this month, but I’m trying to finish up my backlog before the Black Friday sale (eight to go). Hopefully, I’ll snag a few by the end of the year.
I agree that it’s a hoot to follow new releases and their publishers. Sometimes You has published quite a few peculiar games (non-hentai-related), but not a single game seems worth the risk of purchasing it. I currently loathe Baltoro Games because they’re responsible for most of the “new” editions of old games, most of which are just free but minor content updates. I hate shovelware as much as the next person, but rereleasing games as bundles that clog up the new release section is a greater sin to me.
Arco has looked interesting and has been on my wishlist. Probably won’t get to it until there’s a sale.
I purchased Gun Rounds on my phone, and I just can’t get into it. The gameplay is a little too simplistic, and the passive upgrades don’t change up the individual battles that much. Maybe it’s better on the Switch because your fingers won’t obscure the screen, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Welcome to the automated response generator for the Nintendo Life comment section. Due to the increase of repeat articles/comments: we have created a list of common responses, allowing you to copy/paste your comment. Please select from the options below:
1. Nintendo and the Pokémon Company are cruel overlords bent on destroying everything. First Palworld; next our children. 2. Pocketpair is absolute filth that deserves to be pulverized along with anyone who supports them. 3. It’s patent law, not copyright law.

I don’t understand the angry mobs against Nintendo and the Pokémon Company. I’m all for bringing our pitchforks and torches out, but too many people in this comment section decided to bring their law degrees instead. Where did you all get your degrees, and why didn’t I get the memo I needed one to read Nintendo Life articles?
The fact that 100% clean areas get mucked up again is devastating to me. I have the real world to remind me that chores are never done. I need my games to let me fantasize about cleaning the bathroom once and it being spotless forever.
That’s the one I remember playing as a kid. I liked it at the time, although Sonic 3D - of all games - was the one that held my interest then.
The only other Power Ranger game I played was on the PC sometime in the late 90s. I remember the first level being in the city and ended with you on the rooftops. The second level was in some factory or something and was extremely dark. I never was able to get past the first part of that level.
I appreciate the thoughtful response explaining the changes to the Nintendo Download articles. These articles were also the highlight of my week back in the VC Reviews days, but that was a time when getting three releases in a week was a big thing! I do think NL does a fantastic job highlighting unreviewed games in other articles, like Stonham’s top RPG Maker horror games on the Switch and yet to come.
I also appreciate the many reviews that come out each week, although I always want more. Maybe someone can answer this: has NL answered a letter explaining how they choose the games they review?
As others have said, I see Enter the Gungeon as a roguelike based on the definition I used. I also think the definition you used (roguelikes being turn-based like Rogue) is equally acceptable, hence my coin-flipping analogy. It seems people use the definition I explained more frequently these days, but the whole definition thing really should be cleared up.
Roguelite Roguelike Roguelove Roguelife Roguelime, now with that citrus taste for an extra roguebite
Darn Berlin always ruining everything. I have no desire to play the original Rogue, so to purists, my definitions of roguelike/lite will always be inaccurate.
I flip a coin each day to determine how I want to define the difference between roguelike/lite. How I’ve come to understand the difference is that roguelites allow for permanent upgrades outside of runs that make later runs easier to beat (Hades, Heroes of Hammerwatch, Elsie). Although you can unlock new content in roguelikes, each individual run doesn’t get easier because there is no progression outside of the runs. Your skill is the only thing that can make a run easier (Spelunky 2, Binding of Isaac, Slay the Spire).
I love my roguelikes/lites but never really enjoyed the gameplay of Mega Man X and its ilk. Elsie is likely not for me!
Love to see this interview, and I’ve been stoked for this game since I played the demo on PC. I rarely buy games day one, but I’ll gladly grab Slay the Princess on its release date.
As a purely casual Pokémon fan, I can tell this article is about Pokémon, but it almost reads like it’s in another language.
I select my Pokémon team based on which look the coolest. Are they losing in battle? Better shove a bunch of rare candy in them. Did I just make an entirely Ghost-based team that’s lousy against certain other teams? Better shove a bunch of rare candy in them.
It’s cool that the series has such depth when looking at the competitive scene, and I hope future games continue to make changes that improve the meta for the competitive audience. I just happen to enjoy playing in the shallows, looking at the cool new Pokémon.
Fantastic article! I like when Nintendo Life showcases games they haven’t reviewed, putting more games on my radar. I have three to add to my wishlist and three that I hope make the jump to the Switch.

Re: Feature: "There Was More We Wanted To Say" - One Of 2023's Best Games Gets 'The Pristine Cut' On Switch
Love to see this interview, and I’ve been stoked for this game since I played the demo on PC. I rarely buy games day one, but I’ll gladly grab Slay the Princess on its release date.

That Hyper Light Drifter one is sweet. Solar Ash just isn’t the same…
Re: Soapbox: The Next Pokémon Game Should Rework Old Critters, Not Just Add Dozens More
As a purely casual Pokémon fan, I can tell this article is about Pokémon, but it almost reads like it’s in another language.
Re: Feature: 5 RPG Maker Horror Classics On Switch (And 3 We'd Love To See Ported)
Fantastic article! I like when Nintendo Life showcases games they haven’t reviewed, putting more games on my radar. I have three to add to my wishlist and three that I hope make the jump to the Switch.
