Re: Poll: Okay, It's Time To Ask The Obvious - Will We Get Donkey Kong 64 On NSO?

Solomon_Rambling

@AJWolfTill

One reason I don’t like Tooie is because I prefer the self-contained worlds of Kazooie that can be completed in one go. I grew tired of Tooie (and ultimately gave up after getting to and completing some of the Jolly Roger Lagoon or whatever it’s called) because it felt like I was spending so much time just jogging from A to B. Both Mumbo Jumbo and the transformations felt like padding (i.e. you can’t press A here unless you’re this person, and then you can’t progress until you change back). Mini-games seemed more prevalent and took away from the platforming, and the upgrades felt underwhelming.

I have less time to spend on games these days, so admittedly, I am more impatient with games that don’t click with me immediately. Maybe I’d have a better opinion of Tooie if I finished it, but I don’t think I’ll return to it when I have several other games to play or replay.

Thanks for asking!

@Banjo-

There is absolutely no way I’ll convince you of my opinion in an argument about the merits of Banjo-Tooie, and I know we agree that Banjo-Kazooie is a phenomenal game. There are several aspects of the second game that I found endearing, but I was bummed by the sheer amount of back-tracking/traversal and the reduced focus on platforming. It’s not for me, but I’m glad you enjoy it so thoroughly!

Re: Poll: Okay, It's Time To Ask The Obvious - Will We Get Donkey Kong 64 On NSO?

Solomon_Rambling

Would it make sense to release DK64? Yes. Do I want it? No.

Although I’m interested in trying Rare’s other games that have yet to be released on Switch, Banjo-Tooie was such a disappointment (to the point I gave up on it) that I’m now worried how the others have aged. DK64 was somehow better, and I loathed it when I replayed it on the Wii U. Hopefully Diddy Kong Racing holds up as well as I remember it did as a kid.

Re: Nintendo Is Ranked The Third Most Sought-After Employer In Japan

Solomon_Rambling

@RetroGames

I found the 1 in 10 statistic from this report and this report.

Please don't assume my opinions. I was explaining why the LGBTQ+ measures are relevant and why age may not be factor in the survey or its report. Nintendo made some headlines when they announced they recognized same-sex marriages. Does this make Nintendo's partnership system relevant enough to mention in the survey results? Yes. Does this mean LGBTQ+ workplace measures are more important than others? That's a matter of opinion.

I believe a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace does take into consideration all aspects of diversity, including age, sex, and gender. When progressive measures happen, I think that is cause for celebration. Additional measures need to be taken, but that doesn't mean one measure should be called irrelevant.

Re: Nintendo Is Ranked The Third Most Sought-After Employer In Japan

Solomon_Rambling

@RetroGames

To start, we can agree that age is an important factor to recognize when pursuing diversity, equity, and inclusion. I would argue it’s a bit inconsiderate to say same-sex initiatives are “irrelevant” to “99.99%” of employees when 1 in 10 people in Japan identify within the LGBTQ+ community. Japan doesn’t recognize same-sex marriages at this time, so it does seem highly relevant to me that this survey highlights Nintendo’s inclusive policies. In regards to why age isn’t highlighted by this survey, I would assume it’s because the people surveyed were university students who aren’t quite worried about the age factor yet.

Re: Review: Loco Motive (Switch) - A Stunning Whodunnit With Impeccable LucasArts Vibes

Solomon_Rambling

I totally get the “8” score, but those are some nasty bugs. I also get that patches are so expected these days that we can tolerate some bugs, but it’s still frustrating that we sometimes have to wait for a game that’s already out to be playable. Both the Case of the Golden Idol and Backpack Hero had similar issues. While the former was just fixed, the latter still is a hot mess that randomly deleted one of my files. I’ll definitely wait for a fix for this game.

Re: Random: Guilty Gear Strive's Latest Update Apparently Censors "Inappropriate Angles"

Solomon_Rambling

I have never understood photo modes, myself. I imagine they exist so that people can more easily appreciate the details of character models. I assume one of the appeals of the photo mode in a game like Guilty Gear is to explore the “naughty” angles. I’m not usually one to criticize the removal of content like this, but this Guilty Gear fix is inelegant, to say the least.

If someone here appreciates a photo mode, I’d love to hear why.

Re: Nintendo Is Offering An Extra Code With Any 12-Month Individual NSO Purchase

Solomon_Rambling

I’ve had a family membership of Nintendo Switch Online since it launched (and the Expansion Pack when it did), so these deals never apply to me. It seems like there are so many ways to get a free trial of NSO or a great deal for it (like Jamboree having three free months bundled with it).

For those who don’t always have a subscription, are these deals worth it? How often do you end up having a NSO subscription?

Re: Feature: "I Don’t Want To See It Fizzle Out” - Stardew Valley Creator On Why He Can't Give It Up

Solomon_Rambling

@Xbox_Dashboard

I wonder if further expanding Stardew actually promotes his creativity. Sure, it could be cool to see how he experiments with other genres (we’ll at least get Haunted Chocolatier at some point, probably), but I think it’s cool to see how he builds upon the game to give it more depth (especially for people who routinely go for perfection) without bloating the game. You did mention that you’ve not wanted to play the updates (or at least you haven’t downloaded them). What do you think of the content updates you have played?

I personally don’t like Stardew, but I’ve been fascinated by how devoted the fan base (including my wife) is to this series. My favorite game, the Binding of Isaac, conversely, has become bloated with all of its content updates, even if a ton of the added content is fun.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Latest Financials Make One Thing Abundantly Clear

Solomon_Rambling

@ManaOwls

Definitely didn’t mean I would play 400 games over a year or two, although this would explain why I had commented on starting a new hobby! I meant I’d have 400 games to choose from. Last time I looked at my library, there was around 30 games I wanted to replay. That said, I do play and finish around 50 games a year, so I can’t pretend I don’t invest a chunk of my everyday life to the Switch.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Latest Financials Make One Thing Abundantly Clear

Solomon_Rambling

I’m as excited for the Switch successor as the next person, yet I’ve come to appreciate the Switch’s long life. I still have over fifty games on my wishlist that I want to eventually play, and after that, I’ll have a library of around 400 games that I could revisit and enjoy for at least another year or two. Heck, if I grow bored, I might even find a reason to stop playing as much as I do and add a new hobby. If Nintendo wants to take their time, I’m all for it, investors be darned.

Re: Review: Mario & Luigi: Brothership (Switch) - Easily The Best Mario & Luigi RPG Yet

Solomon_Rambling

I think we need a new description for review scores. A “9” doesn’t mean “Excellent” but instead means the reviewer was bought off. A “5” must then signify the reviewer didn’t understand the game. And don’t get me started on “6” scores. That score obviously means Nintendo Life only knows how to give out those scores.

Although I love the first Mario & Luigi game, I haven’t been excited for this one in the slightest, even after all the praise it’s received. Hopefully it sells well enough to allow the developer another shot at making the series even better.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects & Readers' Choice (October 2024)

Solomon_Rambling

Slay the Princess is the first game in several months that I bought within a month of its release. It’s fun to play games as they’re being reviewed and people are giving their impressions (rather than reading about them months or years later when I finally get to the games). I want to play five of the games listed above eventually, so if anyone wants to revisit this article in two years, I’ll join you for a spirited discussion on new games released this month.

Re: Review: Slay The Princess - The Pristine Cut (Switch) – A Brilliant Horror Narrative Hampered By Technical Issues

Solomon_Rambling

The performance issues have been frustrating, largely because the game doesn’t seem to tax the Switch. I’ve played only one story of my second play-through, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that things don’t get buggier.

I’ve enjoyed the story and how much the Princess changes based on your interactions. It’s definitely a wordy game, so although the writing is often excellent, many conversations between the player’s voices can drag. I hope to see all of the endings, but I don’t think this game is quite as impactful as Doki Doki Literature Club and the Stanley Parable.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X Fans Are Once Again Discussing The Game's Censorship

Solomon_Rambling

It seems Deathtanz on Twitter is upset the character creation is neutered, but aren’t we supposed to spay and neuter our pets/video games?

I’m joking, of course. This censorship is ludicrous. When I think of Xenoblade Chronicles X, the first thing I think of is the boob slider, followed by the mechs. You just can’t censor these elements without losing a fundamental part of the game

Re: Review: Shadows Of The Damned: Hella Remastered (Switch) - Cult Shooter Returns As Fun-But-Flawed As Ever

Solomon_Rambling

The original two No More Heroes games made me a Suda51 fan back in the day, so I was bummed to miss out on Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damned when they first came out on non-Nintendo systems. I’ve since replayed the two NMH games on the Switch, neither of which aged well in my opinion (particularly NMH 2). I’ve little desire to check out Suda’s other work now because his style no longer appeals to me. I get why Suda and these games have cult followings, but these days I’m an ex-member.

Thank you for the review and confirming I’m not missing out on this one.

Re: Let's Do The Time Warp In This New 'Tetris Forever' Trailer

Solomon_Rambling

Although a cool project, I haven’t been interested in Tetris Forever until seeing this Time Warp mode. I enjoy Tetris, but I may need a deep discount on Tetris Forever to actually buy it, considering I already have Puyo Puyo Tetris and Tetris Effect on my Switch. If Tetris DS was remastered, I’d buy that in a heartbeat.

Re: Mailbox: Nintendo Dinner Parties, Banger Years & Business Types - Nintendo Life Letters

Solomon_Rambling

@NINTELDRITCH

I agree that it’s a hoot to follow new releases and their publishers. Sometimes You has published quite a few peculiar games (non-hentai-related), but not a single game seems worth the risk of purchasing it. I currently loathe Baltoro Games because they’re responsible for most of the “new” editions of old games, most of which are just free but minor content updates. I hate shovelware as much as the next person, but rereleasing games as bundles that clog up the new release section is a greater sin to me.

Re: Community: 41 Switch Games We Missed, As Recommended By You

Solomon_Rambling

Arco has looked interesting and has been on my wishlist. Probably won’t get to it until there’s a sale.

I purchased Gun Rounds on my phone, and I just can’t get into it. The gameplay is a little too simplistic, and the passive upgrades don’t change up the individual battles that much. Maybe it’s better on the Switch because your fingers won’t obscure the screen, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

Welcome to the automated response generator for the Nintendo Life comment section. Due to the increase of repeat articles/comments: we have created a list of common responses, allowing you to copy/paste your comment. Please select from the options below:

1. Nintendo and the Pokémon Company are cruel overlords bent on destroying everything. First Palworld; next our children.
2. Pocketpair is absolute filth that deserves to be pulverized along with anyone who supports them.
3. It’s patent law, not copyright law.

For all other comments, feel free to leave your response below. My personal belief is that we need this whole debacle to be a Splatfest theme.
