Re: Review: The Lullaby Of Life (Switch) - A Kaleidoscopic Puzzler With Plenty Of Bite

Solomon_Rambling

@Yalloo

I’d agree with the other reviewers that it’s more of an interactive experience. The puzzles aren’t difficult at all because there are relatively few possible moves to complete a puzzle. As such, even if you don’t see the solution immediately, you can brute force your way through every possible combination in a minute or two and get the solution.

I enjoyed it more for how the melodies grew as you complete the puzzles. It’s pleasant in terms of visuals and sound, but I’d definitely recommend other puzzle games before Rhytmos.

Hope this helps!

Re: PSA: Get 50% Off 'Mushihimesama' Before Its Switch eShop Delisting This Week

Solomon_Rambling

@yohn777

I don’t think anybody (including @Vyacheslav333) is questioning if a company wants to make money. I’m also wondering why Live Wire aren’t going with a steeper discount. So many games are on sale for 60% off or more that 50% doesn’t wow me.

I’ve been interested in this game, but I’m not a shmup fan. Even at $10, the game is not cheap enough for me to make an impulse purchase. So the question is now whether the company could have sold more than double the number of copies at 75% off that they’re going to sell at 50% off

Re: Acclaimed 8-Bit Horror 'Faith: The Unholy Trinity' Lands On Switch In October

Solomon_Rambling

@Blast16

I admittedly don’t have many! Little Goody Two Shoe, Ib, Signalis, Corpse Party, and World of Horror are on my wishlist. Although I think Amnesia is a good game, stealth horror creeps me out.

On Switch, I’ve enjoyed:

  • both Little Nightmares (I prefer the second)
  • Doki Doki Literature Club (which is more psychological horror)
  • Paranormasight
  • Return of the Obra Dinn (which has more horror elements than actual scares)
  • Oxenfree
  • Detention
  • the Exit 8 (minor horror but started a recent trend of knock-offs)
  • Iron Lung
  • Paratopic

I’m much better with movies and books! If you have any recommendations, I’ll take them!

Re: Review In Progress: The Garden Path (Switch) - A Green-Thumbed Ode To Animal Crossing That Needs Tending

Solomon_Rambling

Where’s my score, Nintendo Life? How can I dismiss a game entirely without knowing the score?

I wonder how much can be accomplished in a single day in the Garden Path. Even with all the things to do in Animal Crossing, I felt you could run out of meaningful content in a day, especially when you’re just starting out. The glacial pace of the Garden Path may help pad things out, but it all seems so dull to me. Hagues made it very clear this game is not for me, so I’m interested in if other readers are planning to grab this.

Re: 'Splatterbot' Is A Potent Mix Of Splatoon And Boomerang Fu

Solomon_Rambling

I don’t have enough information to be convinced yet. The screenshots have little action, so I’m wondering what will make the levels “dynamic.” Splatoon works well because you can take out opponents and have a slew of weapons to vary the gameplay. If you can only cover ground in Splatterbot, I can see the game getting old fast. Stamp Out from Mario Party has a similar premise, and it works for a minigame. Stretched into an entire multiplayer experience (even for a two-minute match), I’m not so sure.

Re: Link Will Be Playable In Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom, According To New ESRB Rating

Solomon_Rambling

@Serpenterror

I’d like to think a stand-alone Ganon game will end the trilogy (after LA and EoW). Rather than an adventure game, it’ll be a life simulator a lá Animal Crossing. You make friends with monsters to guard your lair, personalize the traps in your dungeons, and take out a small loan to buy chests and unique items to inexplicably keep in said dungeons. True power is a healthy self-care routine and forward-thinking.

Re: Nintendo's Miscrediting Practices Are "Ridiculous", Say External Translators

Solomon_Rambling

I’m all for reassessing how we credit people for the work they do. Game Developer’s article (and by extension, Nintendo Life’s) doesn’t seem to be the way to do it. The original article is largely just the quotes from the translators, and these translators are obviously going to present the issue from their perspective. What we don’t get is the context about contract work and developer/translator relationships (which several others in the comments have noted), leading to a skewed and rather inflammatory article.

We should always strive to improve our practices, and change is difficult if we don’t know all the factors at play.

Re: Review: Princess Maker 2 Regeneration (Switch) - A Solid Return For Simulator Royalty

Solomon_Rambling

What a cool concept, and what a bummer it doesn’t have more QoL improvements. As I get older, I find I’m becoming less tolerant of old-school game jank, whether it’s poor camera controls, illogical puzzles, steep difficulty spikes, or unclear game mechanics. I think I would enjoy a fully updated Princess Maker, but based on this review, the mechanics may be too outdated to make this entry a worthwhile purchase for me.

Re: Review: NeoSprint (Switch) - Atari's Pricey But Revved-Up Retro Romp

Solomon_Rambling

@cyrus_zuo reminded me of the zany fun of Driift Mania when Neo Sprint was first previewed, so I’ve been itching for something similar ever since. I may consider Neo Sprint at a steep discount, but it just isn't wacky enough to appeal to me now. Kirby Air Ride and Driift Mania are really the only top-down racers I’ve played, so it figures that I’m looking for something a little less traditional.

Re: Feature: “Obsessively” Learning From Nintendo & How Lemmings, ChuChu Rocket Inspired Tempopo

Solomon_Rambling

I appreciate Mishra naming that unease I've had when playing puzzle games, wondering when the puzzles will get too hard or time-consuming for me to complete. Baba Is You is a fantastic game, and I missed out on a good chunk of the content because I lacked the understanding and patience to solve the tougher puzzles.

I’m intrigued how the team will balance the difficulty for Tempopo. I’m not sold on the gameplay yet, but Witch Beam has two solid games under their belt, so I’m willing to keep an eye on this one.

Re: Stealth Metroidvania 'Yars Rising' Gets An Easter-Egg Packed New Trailer

Solomon_Rambling

I’ve struggled to get into WayForward games. Perhaps it’s because the art direction always seems cartoonishly generic (really dislike what they did with Advance Wars), but I’ve yet to play a game that’s captured my attention. The Metroidvania elements - at least just based on what I’ve read and seen - seem shoehorned into this new entry of Yars. Change for the sake of change and little else.

But that’s me judging something I haven’t played and of which I know little. I’ll keep an eye on this one to see if it can change my opinion of the developer!

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Needs More Characters Like Paper Mario's Vivian

Solomon_Rambling

@Tibob

I knew the automated response generator would work some day!

The few comments of yours I saw before they were taken down pertained more to Nintendo Life taking down your comments than your opinion on the article. I do believe in understanding a person’s opinion, so what’s yours, sans sarcasm?

@larryisaman

I’ll take a stab at your question because I don’t think anyone has answered it yet. Trans people want to be recognized by their gender identity. If they identify as female/male, they want to be recognized as women/men (for their name/pronouns to be respected; for others to not question their identity). As trans individuals, however, their lived experience is not the same as someone who has identified as cisgender all their life. A trans woman and a cisgender woman can relate on many experiences they share as women, but both the trans person and the cisgender person have experiences unique to their gender identities. As such, cisgender female characters may partially represent a trans woman but do not fully represent her history and lived experience, especially in a society that is intolerant toward trans people.

I hope that answers your question. Despite what I know about the community, I don’t identify as trans, myself, so someone else may have a better explanation.

Welcome to the automated response generator for the Nintendo Life comment section. Due to the increase of repeat articles/comments: we have created a list of common responses, allowing you to copy/paste your comment. Please select from the options below:

1. I appreciate how Hague calls attention to the importance of representation in video games. Thank you for this article.

2. This article doesn’t resonate with my currently held beliefs, but I’ll respect that other people have different opinions without complaining about them.

3. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was better on the GameCube when it ran 60 fps.

For all other comments, feel free to leave your response below. Please just remember what may not be important to you may be important to someone else. Someone’s identity is not a matter of politics, and respecting this identity requires very little from us.

Re: 'Tales Of Kenzara: Zau' Director Addresses "Constant Targeted Harassment"

Solomon_Rambling

Let’s identify some key takeaways, shall we?

1. We want to show an open-mindedness to diversity, to those different from us. Don’t harass others based on their race/gender/sexual orientation/physical abilities/etc., and discourage others close to you from harassing others.

2. As long as the message is not hateful, everyone deserves to tell their stories.

3. ZAU will cost $14.99 for the month of June, if not longer.

Re: The Exit 8

Solomon_Rambling

Definitely a fun "find-the-difference" game that should last you less than an hour to complete, if not much less. It's a joy to show others and watch how they react! It's only a little bit creepy but just enough to keep the experience intriguing. Given its cost, I highly recommend it!

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects & Readers' Choice (May 2024)

Solomon_Rambling

The reader score for Braid is comparatively low. I wonder why that is.

The only game my partner and I purchased from this month’s releases was Duck Detective, and although it was fun, it was a poor man’s version of the Case of the Golden Idol. I intend to buy 1000xRESIST, but I need to finish three or so more games on my backlog before I can justify getting another game.

Re: Review: Overmorrow (Switch) - Intriguing, But Assumes Too Much With Its Save-Wiping Setup

Solomon_Rambling

@bixente

Those reviews are positive, but there are only 16 of them. With a sample size that small, I’m always skeptical of the overall opinion.

I’m glad to see this review, Bowie. You answered every single question I had. I may have been able to stomach the central gimmick and some of the more frustrating aspects of gameplay, but the bugs are going to take this one off my wishlist. The developer may have a patch coming in, but I’ve played too many games that have a patch promised/delivered but some awful bugs remain (Horizon Chase Turbo, the Case of the Golden Idol, and Buddy Simulator 1984, to name a few).

I’ll probably still get the soundtrack though.
