Re: Codemasters Says It Will Look At Switch 2 And See If It's A "Good Fit" For F1 Games

Scollurio

@SuntannedDuck2 Bro, modern games are a cashgrab most of the time, that's why I'm mostly into retro games these days and modern racing games can also easily be exploited. That said, what do you expect progression is handled in "semi-sim" racing games? I always felt Gran Turismo was a bit clunky in that regard. I prefered the more direct approach Forza took.

But if you want a story and all with your racing, it reminds me of "Racedriver" somewhen early in the 00's, also by Codemasters if I remember correctly. You might want to check that out.

But to be honest, bringing up Wii and Gamecube Racers in the same conversation as Forza and Gran Turismo, I am not sure you are even the intended target audience for "sim" and "simcade" racers. Which is no problem, but you should adjust your expectations accordingly.

Looks good. And that CHUNK of a controller is still cheaper than Nintendos trigerless "Pro" Controller. LOL.

BTW anyone who wants to try the Anbernic Controller, go for it. It's super cheap, smooth, reliable and all of its functions can be adjusted directly on the gamepad, no shonky software needed. Highly recommended. Anbernic has a sale right now, 17 quid.

Re: Nintendo Today Video Showcases The New Switch 2 Pro Controller

@JayJ The 60 Dollar Anbernic handheld things have great working analogue triggers. And even IF you don't have them on the joycons, I always thought a PRO CONTROLLER was meant to EXPAND on the experience, hence the name.

There is really no argument justifying this stupid decision, especially now that Forza Horizon and many more third party racing games are "on the horizon" (pun intended). This cripples a whole genre the typical Nintendo customer won't care about as much, okay I get that, but now with new game and hardware prices, the typical Nintendo customer's don't care much for that either.

If I got to pay PREMIUM for a console and a PRO controller it better delivers premium... I mean, LOOK AT THAT and the price:
https://anbernic.com/products/rg-p01

18 bucks before tax, delivery and tarifs.

For that money you get analogue triggers, programmable buttons, rumble, GYRO (!), HAL EFFECT (!) sticks and triggers, RGB, bluetooth, 2,4GHz dongle mode, wired mode, rechargeable via USB-C... compatible to literally anything.

it can't be THAT bad. And of course no word from Nintendo if they at least do support analogue input from THIRD PARTY controllers. Then I might as well geht that instead, or the gorgeous 8bitdo SN30 Pro 2.

Nintendo is a joke.

@axelhander Why would 6-button fighters map both R1 and R2? 4 facebuttons and R1 and L1 and you have all your digital button glory you like, or am I missing something? Either way, seems like a "developers map their buttons wrong" issue to me, which is hopefully easily fixed in the options menu, rather than a all-encompassing "analogue triggers ruin my fun in fighting games" issue. And even then, it's isolated to just one genre of games and every other manufacturer of hardware seems to be okay with analogue triggers.

I play a lot of PS2 era shooters. They have their "fire" on "R1" mostly rather than "R2" which is now the modern way of doing it. It's awkward to me, why wouldn't you want a "TRIGGER" to represent the "TRIGGER" of a real gun that also just fires past a certain point of actuation?

If you're playing racing games with digital face buttons (like again PS2 era did, even Gran Turismo) I absolutely have NO FRIGGIN clue how you can be anywhere near competent or competitive and not need ALL the available driving aids. At this point, why even bother playing a racing game. And NO I don't mean kart racers or Burnout. I mean sim racers.

"Swiftness" is of no concern in a sim racer. You CAN'T go around Nürburgring Nordschleife with a ZERO-THROTTLE, 100%-THROTTLE gas pedal (like a digital button).

This is just nonsense and seems like a systemic issue with Nintendo fans: My personal enjoyment weighs more than common sense or the enjoyment of everyone else.

Re: Nintendo Today Video Showcases The New Switch 2 Pro Controller

@axelhander Well that worked out great for you then. Personally I had never problems with "joycon drift" but still wish for everyone to have a good experience by having a better mechanism.

Still, with a proper PRO controller WITH analogue triggers, YOU would still have the digital shoulder BUTTONS right next to them if you prefer them.

Re: Switch 2 GameCube Controller Compatible With Other Games, But There May Be Some "Issues"

Scollurio

@thedicemaster I've read it and it's an excuse obviously. Devs want instant input? Use the shoulder BUTTON right next to the trigger.

Nintendo got cocky and arrogant, just like MS after XBOX 360, just like Sony after PS2 and again after PS4. Or like themselves after Wii.

Simple as that. Probably pro controllers are 0,2% cheaper to produce without the spring needed for the triggers.

Ridiculous.

Re: Mario Kart World's 'Free Roam' Is Much More Than Mindless Open World Driving

Scollurio

As I grew older and my free time got more sparse, I found a re-kindled love in gaming, mostly retro gaming, in arcade-style experiences not eating up your life weeks at a pop.

That said the additions to Mario Kart World don't justify a purchase for me at the moment, yet a lone at 80 bucks. I much rather prefer a tight and perfectly optimized, contained, classical experience, i.e Super Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or something.

Bigger is not always better. And yes I know you can still do races and such the classic way, still I would feel like I am missing out (especially at this price points) if I didn't waste hours (I don't have) in free roam and side activities.

So. That's that.

Re: Here's Why Switch 2 Joy-Con And Pro Controllers Don't Have Analogue Triggers

Scollurio

@GamingFan4Lyf shooters are not only Doom. Theres the whole rainbow six, advanced warfighter crowd too. You can adjust the deadzones of the triggers in most games so they can be as responsive as you like and fire „early“. Also there is buttons if you want immediacy right next to the triggers. The shoulder buttons.

I’m really sorry but there is no argument. Nintendo messed up and their explanation is beyond lazy. Every other gaming company does triggers for years and plenty console generations - its industry standard really. So they are all wrong and Nintendo is right?

Guess what, many controller manufacturers also think gyros are not worth it. Or HD rumble.

Personally I don’t care much for either but I still want these features in a 90 dollar „pro“ controller for everyone else that likes to have this features.

I hardly care for the dpad because i prefer the thumbsticks but should Nintendo remove either of those because a) no one uses the dpad or b) everyone using thumbsticks is running full blast only anyways?

No!

Again if the switch 2 at least works with third party controllers that have analogue triggers, fine. But this wasn’t the case the first time around. Why is Nintendo charging 90 bucks for their „pro“ controller if you can get the excellent 8bitdo SN30 pro 2 for 50? Because of a headphone jack and a c button?

Oh boy… sorry if this comes over hot, but it really angers me and I am not sure if the Switch 2 will be my console of choice once more. Because i really enjoy and miss racing games.

Re: Here's Why Switch 2 Joy-Con And Pro Controllers Don't Have Analogue Triggers

Scollurio

@GamingFan4Lyf except you’re alienating a whole genre of games and it’s fans.

Also one could argue that first person shooters feel more immersive with triggers.

Platformer fans want a precise dpad, let them have it. Racing games fans want analogue triggers.

Nintendo’s argument is so stupid - why even bother having analogue sticks then when most people run full blast all the time in all games anyways?!

Oh the industry has been wrong for the past three decades but Nintendo knows best. Ugh.
