Re: Talking Point: How Good Are You At Games?

@NeonPizza I DO get that. I had a short burst of "I want games to be hardcore". Played XCOM and Fire Emblem with perma death, tremendously enjoyed Dark Souls I and Bloodborne. But that was that. I also get really pissed in teambased games like Battlefield or COD when you have no chance against a good team when you're playing with randos, but you don't have the time or ambition to get into a group of players just for that one game.

Being grown up with all responsibilities and crap, I do enjoy the "mobility" and the vast array of "retro" games and remakes on the Switch. Sold my gaming PC years ago. Got rid of my PS4 years ago.

But yeah, I do "get" the hardcore gaming crowd! It's a great feeling of accomplishment beating that hard stage or enemy. But I am old. I want to relax!

Im an oldschool gamer. Emphasis on old. I don't have time or interest anymore to spend countless hours in a game to "get gud". Right now I'm enjoying Monster Hunter Rise, have hardly any problems and am a beast with the Bow, quite formidable with the Hammer, but that's about it.

Back in the day, on NES for example, when games were really hard, I tried a few times, but if it was too hardcore, I quite and went out play outdoors. To me games are art and enjoyment, if they are not enjoyable anymore, I stop.

I also never was too keen on competitive games. Besides owning the arcades on MK1 and MK2 machines back in the day when you trained your immune system by using a grimy arcade-stick for hours and rubbing your eyes plenty of times, I usually gravitate more towards coop games or "building" games like Two Point Hospital. And I am fine with that. Gaming is a pastime and not a job or a grind for me.

@DeclanS98 I dont think that women in general feel "mistreatment" every day. Not in the western world at least. This is not Iran. Reacting to one's physical form is perfectly natural, this goes for both genders. I respect all human beings the same way, no matter if man or woman.

I'm not comparing women's issues to men. I say that the great solution for most woke filmmakers is to have a "male" role portrayed by a woman. So instead of showing a strong woman in her own rights, they show us a man, that happens to be a woman. If you look closely, you will see this. This is hypocritical and no fix for no problem at all and the reason why mos woke movies suck and are rejected by sane people.

You know that 60% of higher education in the western world is held by women right? You do know that most men in the entertainment industry nowadays are portrayed as the bumbling fool who needs a strong woman to fix things for him, right? Think Homer Simpson, think Peter Griffin, think that Jim Belushi Show, and most other sitcoms.

Do men complain? No. Because it's just escapism. It's fun. Same with women in videogames. I'm old and when I was a kid we were raised to stand above things that might insult or anger us. Both genders. I know plenty of women who are strong successful females, with a family, lovely kids and a career who dont give two toddler-farts about bikini-clad anime women with thick thighs. Why would they? They have "real" things to worry about.

Hey and I respect your opinion, but you know, ANY form of censorship leads down a dark path, as history tells us. Please be mindful of that. No one of us holds the one and only truth that's applicable to each and every individual in society.

@DeclanS98 Violent games don't promote murder. Cartoonish, overdrawn females don't objectify women. There's plenty of places for that fight to be had in the real world, video games and other forms of entertainment usually is not that place. Look at all the garbage woke movies that bomb at the box office. Showing women so strong they are basically men. What do these do for women rights in muslim countries for example. Also, a cartoon girl with huge hips is a problem, but women drooling over six-packed men in advertisement and movies is not? Neither is, really.

Re: Feature: Switch Developers Open Up About The Impact Of COVID-19

@SortingHat This is an old conversation, so I might miss something. Just about the whole situation globally, just look at the different states in the US, many of them doing completely away with mask mandates or never had them and they don't have worse numbers than their locked down neighbour states. Look at Sweden in Europe. Look at Africa. In the coming weeks and months more and more reports will hit mainstream that the harsh measures didn't do any good, that the psychological effect on the elderly and especially kids was devastating, that we will have a deep recession and inflation will come to haunt us all.

When you compare absolute death numbers beteween countries and previous years it's really easy to figure out that the impact of the virus itself was largely overblown for political reasons.

THAT said my heart goes out to everyone who suffered directly from illness and their relatives, as well as everyone that still will be affected harshly by this mess in the coming years.

Just in this year over 5 Million people died from hunger, mostly children. And no one cares. Just saying.

But this political discussion doesn't belong here, really. Also I stopped trying to talk sense with people. To each their own. Challenging opinions these days will upset all the wrong people for the right reasons.

Re: Talking Point: Surely It's Time For Game Boy On Nintendo Switch Online?

Scollurio

@JimmySpades I recently started playing old gameboy games on one of the "pocket" consoles. The one that looks like a shrunk gameboy advance, forgot it's fancy chinese name. It's really enjoyable. The pixelart on old GB games is SO underappreciated. Mad detail that was lost in a vomit-green-blur back in the day now shines on a backlit display with a quick response time. Also, it's amazing despite (or BECAUSE of) the limitations they had to work with, how much gameplay and great ideas they were able to squeeze out of those games.

I feel like this "optimization for the most fun" now with basicly limitless ressources on the hardware side (especially in the PC filed) is lost today. Except on the switch. There are good ports and bad ports, but it's with the first party title where they try to squeeze every last bit of performance (and fun) out of a fixed system with limited ressources. I guess that's where my love for handhelds comes from.

Re: Video: How Does The Instax Mini Link Printer Compare To The Trusty Game Boy Printer?

Scollurio

Just for informations sake it's gotta be said, these are TRUE analogue photos. Think polaroids. They will slowly develop and no shaking or blowing on them will not speed things up.

Personally I think this is a pretty weird (and expensive) application to use real self-developing film for. If you ever get your hands on fujifilms instax mini cameras, especially the neo 90 and the SQ 6, those make really nice analogue photos that are vivid and "soft", especially when taking pictures out in nature. Printing digital art on it... meh. Not for me.

@LeonAlistair Yeah I've figured that much about the crafting and farming. I'm alternating between bow and hammer setups, loving both playstyles. So it's really capped at HR 7 so far?

Weird because for newcomers it really seems like the game just stops. Yes sure I saw the credits roll and all (way too early, way too easy imho), but yeah.

Oh well then, I'm curious what the 27th will bring (besides a few new monsters). I'd love some sort of custom arena challenges with scaling rewards. Imagine playing in the arena with 5 monsters and all of them going onto each other's throats too. I'd even take some kind of "wyvern race", just imagine Mario Kart but with people riding monsters instead, haha.

Re: PSA: You Should Be More Of A Vicious Killer In Monster Hunter Rise

Scollurio

@SeeEmilyPlay I see where you're coming from. I don't mind SO much in MHR, but I definitely know what you are experiencing. Others ruined all sort of games for me, it was back in some Battlefield game, can't remember which, where I just had enough.

"Oh okay, we're not doing the tactical sound and logical thing and play as a team, okay, so we all play quake, not giving a ***** how often we respawn."

Then EA turned even more D and I noped out of most triple A gaming, gaming altogether and multiplayer with strangers too.

The Nintendo Switch is where the reclusives live.
