Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Library With Three More Classics

@DwaynesGames As a customer I'd love to have a choice. I have no control over what is being added to the service. Or when. I'm pretty sure if you multiply their subscription fee by 6 years (as long as I am subscribed) it doesn't amount to the sum of money I'd have put into a proper VC implementation.

I'd even go all in on the e-shop if I had a) some way to permanently "own" and archive my purchases and b) prices of digital media are at least 10% lower than physical media, like it should be.

All of this is a mess.

@MetalGear_Yoshi It would also switch up that whole pirating and emulation debate. If you offer a convenient and reasonably priced way to enjoy your old games, people wouldn't have to resort to other ways of playing them.

Recently I watched some hidden gems videos on the WII and discovered plenty of games I never played back when I had a WII. So, what now? Getting a pre-owned WII again and paying ridiculous prices to scalpers. That's your model?

Ugh.

I'd even be for reruns of actual physical hardware of older systems, maybe with a few technical tweaks here and there. Can you imagine a freshly released Mega Drive with HDMI out and CRT filters?

Oh yes I know about Analogue, but even their "Mega Drive" is out of production. Ugh.

I really like the convenience of this and also the quality of emulation. Simple. Functional. Great.
Now if I just could get the games I want individually, like in the virtual console... that'd be great. Nintendo is leaving so much money on the road it's baffling.

I gladly would have spent the money that went to emulation handhelds like the Miyoo mini and Anbernic devices towards a virtual console kind of thing.

I'm curious how Switch successor will handle things.

@Polvasti It's the "sandbox experience" that got me hooked on GTA V for 5 years straight. It was great, almost felt like an MMORPG. I don't care much for GTA VI story (im afraid of current political ideologies being ingrained into it) even though 5's story and acting was great. If they can continue and even widen the success of the online portion of the game, we will play GTA VI well into 2035 i think, again across three console generations!

That said, I'm busy playing a whole bunch of retro games and not sitting on hot coals about GTA VI.

@Kb111 That's a sad thing to hear and I am sure it left a lot of trauma in you and your mother, which makes it difficult to take another point of view. I guess all that's going on here is that it is not good to generalize. And yes, even while most of us try to be somewhat decent human beings and many others do too, you will run into the odd a-hole, that's for sure.

But they are not the norm.
They are not everywhere.

They tend to seem to pool around power and money though...

@Zuljaras Well single mothers have a tough time because they come with baggage. And I don't mean the kids. Not saying "it's everyone's own fault" but I AM saying that nowadays choices in sexual partners are often not well thought through. Western society's families have gone down a cliff the past 20 years all in the name of "freedom" and "fun". No one talks about freedom coming with responsibility.

It's only western societies that have gotten way more cruel, all while wearing a fake mask of tolerance and understanding. It's all a ***** show. But somewhere inbetween there are people that carry so much love in their heart, they can spread it like a blanket to at least temporarily keep the coldness of the western world at bay.

Think that's too poetic? Too much drama?

Well maybe you've gotten cold too.

@samuelvictor Society and relationships are broken, i cheer for everyone that's strong, loving and caring enough to pick up the pieces and forms a FAMILY from it. Family isn't how it's formed, but how it's LIVED from day to day. From personal experience I've seen far better "step parents" than "actual parents".

It's a very sensitive subject for me, especially in western cultures and I am perfectly convinced that unconditional love doesn't have to come from blood.

Since "pixelated graphics" from days past, a consequence of hardware limitations, became "pixel ART" in recent years and as such a totally accepted artistic style even for modern games, I don't see the point in "HD visual" remasters (especially if they are that bland) in old games, that have perfectly fine, smooth pixel art visuals...

@Arcata Linux is very efficient when it comes to hardware resources, the installs are small, memory use much less than in Windows or even macOS. I love pop for it being really simple to use. You can still, if you so choose, get really into the nitty gritty too. But as a "learner's and everyday's Linux" it's perfect.

Also, I don't know about their own hardware (system76), but their stuff looks great. If you want a real bang for your buck though, try to get a refurbished ThinkPad T480s or X1 Carbon from 2018. I'm getting 8 hours of battery life during normal work out of my T480s and it just cost me 400 bucks in near-mint condition. Love it!

Enjoy your linux adventure!
