Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Overview Trailer Is A Wonderful Recap Of Game's New Features

Scollurio

It's the first time in a long while that I am interested in a Mario game (don't hit me), but I fear that all the new elements make it "less Mario". Anyone else feeling this way? For me it's Super Mario World ingrained into my brain and everything "too modern" looks just like any other platformer.

I also got that Sonic game pre-ordered though, can't wait to see how they compare.

@Arcata I use macOS for work, Windows 11 to fool around with some steam games and Linux for my writing. If you really want to try Linux, I highly recommend getting Pop_OS!. It's a smooth and stable experience. Nvidia drivers, Steam and all. Linux has come a long way and once you get into it a bit, you will start to see where Windows falters.

MacOS' greatest advantage for me is, it doesn't get in the way of my work. Yes you can't customize as much, yes Apple is basically telling you how to use your computer, but if all you want to do is getting work done, macOS is great. Oh and the new Apple silicone chips, fantastic.

Besides that I don't buy into the Apple ecosystem because I think they are highly intrusive and can't be anymore trusted with the privacy of your data than any other megacorp these days.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo

@Arcata i disagree. Codebase is a mess, security is a mess, stability while better now than in vista days still isn’t up there, telemetry is intrusive AF and so much more. It’s everywhere because of marketing, early adoption in the PC space and lack of options.

But, my thoughts don’t take away from your enjoyment of windows. If you like it you like it and that’s fine.

Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo

Scollurio

@HeadPirate so what? I didn’t call them that for the numbers of acquisitions but for the practices of Microsoft from years of running windows and again and again trying to extort money from users every step of the way. Also Sony seems to be way less intrusive in the workings of their acquired studios than Microsoft. Then again it’s all just subjective and none of it matters in the greater picture anyways.

Re: Review: Mortal Kombat 1 - A Superb Fighter, But Severely Kompromised On Switch

Scollurio

Not a fan of the ultraviolence anymore. I've had enough. I rather play Kirby or something. As for the visual hit, I actually don't care. Framerate is all that counts for me. I love retro games, I enjoy every pixel out of Boltgun and I still play Doom occassionally. I really don't mind low quality visuals.

PS5 and XBOX Series X are stock full of visual feasts and yet everything feels stale and samey. Nintendo exclusives, real retro games and lovingly crafted indies is where it's for me.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Datamine Ignites New DLC Character Rumours

Scollurio

@Arckadius I was the same, been a fan since the very first one in MK2 when no one would believe young me telling stories about ripped out spines in the Arcade...

... but growing up the violence got stale, even repulsive. Back in the day I wanted realistic, gritty games, I didn't like Nintendo's games except for Super Mario World at all. Now it's the other way round. Maybe I have been around too many dark websites in all these years, having seen real violence. I despise it.

Luckily there's plenty to enjoy fighting-game-wise if you dig into retro games, which I enjoy doing for a while now.

I still hope we will get those rumored MK1-MK3 HD remasters though.

Re: F-ZERO 99 Turns The Classic Racer Into A 99-Player Battle Royale, On NSO Today

Scollurio

Actually I never liked F-Zero, but this is quite fun. Also I think F-Zero will be one of the launch titles for Switch 2 next year around end of march. Would make a lot of sense. Maybe a bells-and-whistles remaster or something entirely new. This is probably to gauge interest.

Most other recent Nintendo games will probably be cross-generational anyways, so they need something "completely fresh" for the new thing.

I also think the gamecube Zelda games will make an appearance on the new hardware early in it's life because the mainline Zelda AAA game dropped so recently.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Targeting A 2024 Release For The Switch Successor

Scollurio

@ZonaiResearcher Hm personally I think it's the other way round, hardware restrictions FOSTER innovation and new concepts. Raw power just makes developers lazy and yes, maybe you get VR games, if that is, what you are looking for.

Most new genres and innovations all happened on a gameplay level. Think Minecraft, Among Us or Fallguys. None of those games need powerful hardware to run.

Meanwhile you have the eye-popping AAA games on PS5 that all add very little to the overall experience, except being "sharper" and maybe adding swaying strands of hair and weather effects.

There is a reason why so many of the genres and gameplay concepts we still enjoy today were cooked up during the 8-bit and 16-bit era, if you can't stretch your legs hardware-wise it's only gameplay you can innovate!

Re: Nintendo Aims To Reduce Scalping Of "New Hardware"

Scollurio

@Ryu_Niiyama The follow-up purchasing of games is a good point. Otherwise I think if the scalpers wouldn't find enough customers, they wouldn't do it. So people still buy. Maybe delayed, maybe overpriced, but hardware still changes hands. But yes, if you blew all your money on a scalped system and have nothing left to buy games with... that is a problem. I didn't think of that initially!

Also most hardware manufacturers sell at a loss or close to it anyways. Hmmm. What to do about it?

Re: Two Point Campus

Scollurio

Playing it since 2 days, loving it. It seems even more lighthearted than Hospital, many processes seem more straight forward, just gotta get used to the sometimes HUGE rooms. Funny as always, slowdown to about 20 FPS in REALLY crowded spaces occassionally in handheld, but other than that, a quality release. The comic-y graphics lend themselves really nicely to the switch platform where it still looks good even on low details compared to PC version with all the BAZANG.

Re: Review: Wreckfest - An Absolute Banger (In A Good Way)

Scollurio

@Manxman64 Okay I picked it up, gave it a whirl. It runs well, even in handheld, even though it looks a bit "mushy" but that's to be expected. About the controls, well of course you miss analogue control, but to be honest, there's a huge threshold that lets you "feather" the gas and the game fills in the blanks, also it's arcadey enough. It "will do". It's not grand, but I imagined it to be worse. Might keep it!

EDIT: Oh and before I forget, yes there's a control preset to use the right stick for gas/brake!

Re: Nintendo Direct Mini To Air Tomorrow, June 28

Scollurio

I love my switch and it's the only console I have (after owning everything else for a while), still, it seems to me that Nintendo is running on nostalgia, kids-sales and "just wait another month for XY". I find plenty to play with the little time I have, but honestly, things have been slow.

Re: Gamescom Will Be An In-Person And Online Event When It Returns This August

Scollurio

@ModdedInkling Thats not how it works usually, when a virus is around for a while and mutates a lot it tends to mutate itself out of existence in time. That's how all pandemics and epidemics naturally end. If something mutates and becomes more effective it's usually because it was deliberately done in a lab.

Think of it this way: YOU mutate all the time. Every day. Mutations usually are kept in check by your immune system. Mutated cells self-destruct. But sometimes, they can develop further, then we call it cancer. Cancer is not good for you. You don't become more effective by getting cancer.

The most dangerous thing about this whole pandemic is the panic and hatred that was spread by media and overzealous politicians. Live healthy, use your brain and everyone will be safe.
