Re: Metroid Prime 4's "Combined Sales" Have Surpassed One Million, Nintendo Confirms

Scollurio

After having played Prime 4, enjoyed it tremendously, then gotten and beaten Prime 1 Remeastered, Dread, Zero Mission and soon-to-be-beaten Super Metroid I am wholeheartedly picking up any new Metroid game.

I do get the frustration of hardcore fans, but I also think there's enough to enjoy in Prime 4 to make it stand out against all the slop that we're getting served, even if you are a die-hard holdout for the classic formula.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Fails To Meets Sega's Expectations

Scollurio

Hm. I love Sonic Racing Crossworlds and the over-the-top action and unfamiliar characters are a nice change of pace after playing literally DECADES of (mostly the same) Mario Kart games.

Am I biased?
Maybe. But SRCW is really a blast once you get into unlocking and special event racing. Love it.

Re: Switch 2 Predicted To Follow In PlayStation And Xbox's Footsteps This Year With "Global Price Hike"

Scollurio

To be honest, this is simple economics. If you're outpricing the majority of your customers, you go down. Easy as that.

Yes, I know, large companies need to make profit, blah.

Okay, but sometimes it could be a good business decision to EAT the tariffs, EAT the memory cost and make a loss in a year or two and come out the other end still having customers, no?

To be honest, the financial crunch is real and if I have to decide between eating healthy protein rich meals or making Mario jump by pressing a button, I am sorry for that fat plumber, but I'll have my steak.

Re: GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition Races Onto Switch 2 Later This Month

Scollurio

@KoopaTheGamer That's all well and good but a modern "PRO" controller should be the "it does it all quite well" solution, fitting for most players and gamers. But if Nintendo want's to be arse about it, then they should drop the price of the ridiculously overpriced "PRO" controller at least 20 bucks and release a separate "racing" controller for the same price so only racing game fans can purchase it.

OH wait, seems like the Switch consoles don't really register an analogue input on a system level, except from the official Gamecube controller.

Also racing game fans are a passionate crowd, just assuming "they are all on PC building their racing rig anyways" is a bad business decision. Especially in this economy, if the Switch is already your family console, why not capitalize on a few extra "dad-sales" playing their racing games when the kids are in bad?

And no, Mario Kart is NO racing game in that sense.

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

Scollurio

@The_Nintendo_Expat Funnily enough I played Prime 1 back in the day on the gamecube but couldn't get into it because of the controls, to me the modern controls unlocked a wonderful game that still had plenty of puzzling and generally felt like "space Lara croft" to me. Prime 4 even more so. I dig sci fi I general, the metaphysical, lost civilizations and so on, so I really enjoyed the "discover the story on your own" approach in Prime 4.

After Prime 4 I beat Prime 1, which I found very underwhelming (only the ending, the leading up to it was grand) and also got intro Dread, which once you stop being scared of the EMMIs, opens up and is a lot of fun. Also started ZERO MISSION on GBA.

I do love Metroid, in all its variants so far.

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

@The_Nintendo_Expat Thank you, same here. I also am totally fine disagreeing on things, we all have different perspectives. I just feel like if people see rage baiting YouTube videos about Metroid Prime 4, like it's the failed second coming of christ, and then skip it and go play Fortnite or some other slop, they are robbing themselves of a great experience.

If Metroid Prime 4 is only 70% of the OG Prime formula, it's still a grand game imho.

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

Scollurio

@Ladasta To be fair, I read up on all the lore of Metroid as I found myself being a fan of Prime 4 and the storyline of all Metroid games was no grandiose writing to begin with.

That said, I found plenty of story through environmental storytelling, things to scan and to discover. I enjoyed exploring, like Space Lara Croft, and figuring out what happened to the being and once great civilization of the Lamorn.

The ending was ambiguous, I'll give you that. But there was plenty of story, just not told through a narrator.

Also, did anyone ever notice that the thing in the middle is called the CHRONO tower? So expect time traveling shenanigans and rescuing your galactic federation buddies in the next game.

Can't wait. I like it.

Re: Talking Point: Metroid Prime 4 And The Burden Of Being 'Good Enough'

Scollurio

I never got into Metroid. Metroid is a niche franchise as is. I feel like Dread was catered to the OG fans and Nintendo tested the waters with it. Sales were OK, not grand, despite massive marketing. So now comes Prime 4 along, which is much more approachable. I didn't listen to the negative nancies online and bought it.

On Switch 1 mind you, still it was absolutely captivating, a grand experience and it made me into a Metroid fan. Since then I purchased Dread and Prime 1 Remastered. Beat both.

I see where OG fans are coming from. But first 2D Metroids are different to the 3D ones and secondly, yes Prime 4 has handholding which should be optional and yes the maps are much more linear...

BUT, it is a grand game and I prefer it to all others, while I am still able to acknowledge the grandeur and fascination of the old school ones.

I didn't mind blasting through the desert, which isn't THAT empty at all with tings to discover, and I collected the green crystals along the way, no big deal. Also there are large deposits which will fill your collect-meter rather rapidly.

I don't want to defend Nintendo, because I am no fan of their Switch 2 era so far, game prices, game key cards, general greed and all. BUT... Metroid Prime 4 is a GREAT game and as I see it we have a choice:

Stick to the OG formula and get a game every decade or even longer to lukewarm sales, or adjust the formula slightly, more people will enter the fandom, sales increase and we get more of Metroid.

Criticizing Metroid Prime 4 for not being Zero Mission or Prime 1 is a bit like complaining Super Mario Wonder is not Super Mario Bros 3 imho.

Things evolve. Metroid Prime 1 was so far ahead of it's time, even if Prime 4 does not live up to expectations a 100%, it's still better than 90% of other games on Switch/Switch 2.

9/10 from me.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Metroid Prime 4: Beyond?

Scollurio

@Bootlicker333 I get it. I've opted out of "modern gaming" a few years ago. Enjoying proper retro titles, got to enjoy 30 years of videogames, I really don't need to wait for the new slop coming out, biting my nails. I did have Metroid on my radar though.

What I got and really enjoy is Sonic Racing Crossworlds though. It has all the crazy SEGA energy and feels more like a traditional game, not a storefront to sell you stuff. It's well balanced and feels like a real effort by the devs.

Other than that, the next modern thing I play is dreamcast/gamecube era and from there on, backwards.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Metroid Prime 4: Beyond?

Scollurio

Honestly, it left a bit of its identity on the table. When I play Mortal Kombat, I expect blood and gore. When playing Metroid I expect isolation, "dread" (pun intended) and exploration. It has a lot of handholding and chitchat by annoying NPCs. Also the NPCs look almost like "real humans" whereas Samus and Metroid in general always was more "stylized" leaning more into the comic/anime corner of things. Having both styles in one game irks me a bit.

Then. The desert. Empty. Barren. Boring. And the game forces you to traverse it all. the. time. It's to pad out gametime? And no music, but unlocking music with Amiibo or with full playthrough, at which point who cares for music anymore after spending hours in the desert in silence?

Hohum.

This is my honest opinion. Worth the wait? No.
Good game? Yes.
Core Metroid experiences? Hohum.

To be honest, it feels a bit too "modern western dumb audience" and "Halo" to me. Not terrible. But not what I came for.
7/10.

Re: New 'Sonic Universe' Movie Spin-Off Announced For 2028

Scollurio

@NintonicGamer I remember them fondly. The console wars of the 90s. We don't speak about them. Mostly. But when we do, we remember collectively the feud of Mario vs Sonic. There was even rumors that you could put Mario and Sonic into Mortal Kombat to slaughter each other, using Action Replay.

Ah, the 90's.
Good times.

Re: Official Zelda Movie Photos Give Us Our Best Look Yet At Link And Zelda

Scollurio

I don't really care too much for either Zelda or Hollywood productions as a whole.

BUT, that said, I find Link quite spot on, but Zelda lacks a bit of "royal petiteness"? - if that even is a term. She looks a bit "too natural" (and beautiful at that) for me.

But then again, I don't care. I hope this movie turns out what Zelda fans expect it to be!
